I am trying to get the Android ADT pluging on a 64 bit eclipse indigo installation on a windows 7 home premium machine. My system is situated behind an authenticated http proxy.
I tried setting the http & https (not SOCKS because that caused other errors) which basically downloads the list of packags under ADT but is unable to download the packages (gets stuck around 35% every time).
Making changes in eclipse.ini as suggested on some forums causes eclipse to not even download the list of packages.
The problem is eclipse doesnt want to download somee of the files though it manages to get a few of them (though never enough to install a complete package)
I have proxy settings set in 1)primary browser- Firefox 2)Internet Options in Control panel 3)eclipse
You can download the ADT plugins as an archive and install that locally. For detailed instructions, see http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/installing-adt.html#Troubleshooting
open the link mentioned by E-Riz and
download the zip file and open eclipse and add new software - add- archive(locate to the place where u downloaded) this would help u install the plugin

Today I set in my new working Environment and I have to install eclipse. I downloaded the ADT, and when I tried to download eclipse Plug-Ins from the link http:// it did not work because of Connection issues. I coped this Problem by downloading the Plug-Ins as a zip file and I added it.
Now, when I open eclipse and click on the SDK Manager to download the new APIs and the other stuff, I receive the below posted Screen shot. Is there any other way to install it?
It seems you are connecting to the internet through a firewall or proxy server. check this out and it should work. Also when you try to open the SDK manager try to run it as an administrator. because some folders are somehow protected, and when the SDK tries to write into it, it faces acess problems. So it is better to run the SDK as an administrator.
I installed Eclipse Helios Software. And i also downloaded Android SDK Manager. I installed some in the SDK. When I click on Help---> Install New Software and click the "Add" button. I was asked the Name and the Location. I gave the Name as ADT Plugin and Location as "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/". But its showing that the link is not found in the repository. I should create an Android Project. How should I do this?
under the settings menu in miscellaneous section check- Force https://… sources to be fetched using http://… and retry.. i think it might help..
read the troubleshooting installation at
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/installing-adt.html
it clearly says
*If Eclipse can not find the remote update site containing the ADT plugin, try changing the remote site URL to use http, rather than https. That is, set the Location for the remote site
to:
http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
*If you are using firewall make sure to make certain settings regarding proxy...
here is also good discussion about your question
Problem installing the ADT Plugin for Eclipse
So I've got a brand new PC with win7 64 bit on it. I'm trying to get up and running with android SDK and eclipse. I've done this before on other win7 32 bit machines and never had issues. But now on this new machine, I have installed JDK 1.7.0 (64 bit), I have installed eclipse indigo 64 bit, and I've installed r13 of the sdk from here.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
But every time I try to launch the sdk manager (yes, I did get it installed with the "back" and "next" trick to make sure it found java) it fails to download the repository.xml file. The error I get 4 times is:
Failed to fetch URL http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml, reason: Invalid argument: connect
Note that I did shut off mcafee firewall so I don't think that's the issue. I also tried the tricks mentioned many many places about trying with and without https://... I have a direct connection, so I don't believe I need a proxy at all. And I've verified that URL can load the xml into chrome.
So I'm totally out of ideas now!!! Please help!
I executed C:\android-sdk-windows\toolandroid.bat to get the repository.XML, which opened the Android SDK Manager and downloaded the list of things to install. Then I clicked "Accept All" for the agreements.
The first time I tried to install, it looked like it did, but didn't. (Each item said "null" as it attempted to install.) After I put the proxy settings into the SDK manager (Tools > Options), each of the packages (68!) downloaded. (I copied the proxy info from IE Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings.)
HTC and MOTODEV request logins when you attempt to install their packages, but I haven't created an account, and so just skipped them.
Running Windows XP, 32 bit.
I had no problem downloading the installer and android-sdk_r10-windows.zip, but when running the installer, it gets stuck opening
https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository.xml
When I try browsing to that URL, I get a 404.
I've read some of the other answers suggested, but most either direct me to the sdk download (already done) or mention some obscure command line approach that doesn't seem relevant to a Windows installation.
Thanks for any help!
Dave
First thing to try is to click on the Settings tab and turn on the option to Force https sources to be fetched using http. Then try to refresh the packages.
If that doesn't help are you behind a corporate proxy? If so make sure your proxy server and port are correct in the Settings tab.
If that doesn't work try http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5944#c7 .
And if that doesn't work try Download the Android SDK components for offline install .
i am a student in africa and in our land, there actually exist slow and expensive internet connections, which is why we tremble in fear whenever we hear the word "online repository" method of installing software. Damn, that usually means you have to look elsewhere.
The problem.(i cant install android without connecting eclipse to the internet)
It is possible to manually download individual components as .zip files but there is no way of installing them into android eg i have managed to download
platform-tools_r03-windowsandroid-sdk_r10-windowsetcbut no matter what i do, i can't get android to recognise them as components. It seems tens of thousands of other developers have a similar problem (see below)
This qn has 10k views(meaning 10k people had a similar problem)
another lost developer
webpage sudgesting solution that failed to work on windows seven ultimate
If someone has actually ever installed android without connecting eclipse to the internet, please let us know the magic you used. Thanks in advance :)
EDIT:
if someone out there is still interested check out http://qdevarena.blogspot.com/2010/05/download-android-sdk-standalone-for.html
and make sure your folder structure is as shown in http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
For SDK and platform tools you can just extract the zip content, Eclipse has nothing to do here.
For Eclipse ADT plugin:
Download the zip file from http://dl.google.com/android/ADT-10.0.1.zip
Help -> Install New Software -> Add
Select Archive and then provide the location of the zip file
These steps are clearly explained in Eclipse ADT documentation.
Only in Windows
Install (if not installed) Oracle JDK jdk-7-windows-i586.exe
install Eclipse SDK
Add to the PATH environment variable the path to the JDK (for example c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin)
Edit the file hosts (c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts), add the entry "127.0.0.1 dl-ssl.google.com"
It's important! Port 80 must be free at the time of installation Android SDK
Run the Abyss Web Server X1 (abyssws.exe). Works best if you download a fresh copy
Run the Android SDK "SDK Manager.exe" installer
In the "Android SDK Mannager" in the menu "Tools" >> "Options" put the check ("force https:// ... sources to be fetched using http:// ...")
Android SDK Manager will fetch packages in your computer. Choose the packages for API you want to program against, select and install packages
After installation the file hosts (c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) entry "127.0.0.1 dl-ssl.google.com" you entered in step 3
Good Luck!! and remember to update to lastest APIs and revision
You can download Eclipse ADT and install
IN Eclipse: Click Help tab and Install New Software tab
Click add button
In Add Repository Window, add in Name Field Eclipse ADT and Location field click archive to browse in local machine where you downloaded ADT
Press Ok and tick all, Eclipse will install the less
The answer by dtmilano is not valid for the current version of android SDK. (androdi 4.2.2)
The android website says that after the unzipping of the ADT:
Your Eclipse IDE is now set up to develop Android apps, but you need to add the latest SDK platform tools and an Android platform to your environment. To get these packages for your SDK, continue to Adding Platforms and Packages.

as mentioned by
Installing android SDK in eclipse offline
I'M a Ghanaian..I did it about a week ago on ubuntu it might work on windows
your question indicates that you have eclipse installed..so i will just move on to setting it up to run android apps ...
step 1: go to developer.android.com to download the sdk for windows(i recomend you download the one with the installer).
step 2: launch ur favourite browser and open this site.
you will see an xml page using ctr+f (any shortcut for finding a text on your browser) type andoroid 2.2 or any android version you like latest is kitkat 4.4...you will find ur prefered android version in zip file for ur OS i.e windows...just copy the text and append it to this address.
this will download the the platform for you in .zip format....just navigate to where you extracted ur sdk and go to platform folder and then create a new folder with any name and then extract the platfor you downloaded earlier i.e android version into the new folder you created...just launch the sdk.exe and it will auto detect your platform for you...
just go and creae your Android virtual device and start running your apps..
