Service Stopping in Android - android

I have Android Service that runs always in background, and another service which is triggered by the always running service which is alarmmanager service.
Howewer, I want to stop service with a button, my aim is to stop always running service so the alarm manager service will automatically be stopped. Is it correct perspective?
My sample code is as follows
package com.example.deneme;
public class AndroidNotifyService extends Activity {
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
Button buttonStartService = (Button)findViewById(R.id.startservice);
Button buttonStopService = (Button)findViewById(R.id.stopservice);
buttonStartService.setOnClickListener(new Button.OnClickListener(){
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent intent = new Intent(AndroidNotifyService.this, com.example.deneme.AndroidScheduledService.class);
AndroidNotifyService.this.startService(intent);
}});
buttonStopService.setOnClickListener(new Button.OnClickListener(){
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(AndroidScheduledService.ACTION);
intent.putExtra("RQS", AndroidScheduledService.RQS_STOP_SERVICE);
sendBroadcast(intent);
}});
}
}
My always running service
package com.example.deneme;
public class AndroidScheduledService extends Service {
final static String ACTION = "AndroidScheduledServiceAction";
final static String STOP_SERVICE = "";
final static int RQS_STOP_SERVICE = 1;
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent myIntent = new Intent(getBaseContext(),
MyScheduledReceiver.class);
PendingIntent pendingIntent
= PendingIntent.getBroadcast(getBaseContext(),
0, myIntent, 0);
AlarmManager alarmManager
= (AlarmManager)getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE);
Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.setTimeInMillis(System.currentTimeMillis());
calendar.add(Calendar.SECOND, 10);
long interval = 60 * 1000; //
alarmManager.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP,
calendar.getTimeInMillis(), interval, pendingIntent);
return super.onStartCommand(intent, flags, startId);
}
#Override
public void onDestroy() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
//this.unregisterReceiver(notifyServiceReceiver);
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(NotifyService.ACTION);
intent.putExtra("RQS", NotifyService.RQS_STOP_SERVICE);
sendBroadcast(intent);
super.onDestroy();
}
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
}
My Alarmmanager service
public class NotifyService extends Service {
final static String ACTION = "NotifyServiceAction";
final static String STOP_SERVICE = "";
final static int RQS_STOP_SERVICE = 1;
HttpClient httpclnt;
HttpPost httppst;
String message;
String response;
//NotifyServiceReceiver notifyServiceReceiver;
private static final int MY_NOTIFICATION_ID=1;
private NotificationManager notificationManager;
private Notification myNotification;
private final String myBlog = "http://android-er.blogspot.com/";
/*
#Override
public void onCreate() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
notifyServiceReceiver = new NotifyServiceReceiver();
super.onCreate();
}
*/
#Override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
/*
IntentFilter intentFilter = new IntentFilter();
intentFilter.addAction(ACTION);
registerReceiver(notifyServiceReceiver, intentFilter);
*/
// Send Notification
notificationManager =
(NotificationManager)getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
myNotification = new Notification(R.drawable.ic_launcher,
"Notification!",
System.currentTimeMillis());
Context context = getApplicationContext();
String notificationTitle = "Exercise of Notification!";
String notificationText = "http://www.google.com/";
Intent myIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(myBlog));
PendingIntent pendingIntent
= PendingIntent.getActivity(getBaseContext(),
0, myIntent,
Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
myNotification.defaults |= Notification.DEFAULT_SOUND;
myNotification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
myNotification.setLatestEventInfo(context,
notificationTitle,
notificationText,
pendingIntent);
notificationManager.notify(MY_NOTIFICATION_ID, myNotification);
return super.onStartCommand(intent, flags, startId);
}
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
#Override
public void onDestroy() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
//this.unregisterReceiver(notifyServiceReceiver);
super.onDestroy();
}
/*
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
public class NotifyServiceReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent arg1) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
int rqs = arg1.getIntExtra("RQS", 0);
if (rqs == RQS_STOP_SERVICE){
stopSelf();
}
}
}*/
}
My BroadCast Receiver Classes
For NotifyService Class
package com.example.deneme;
public class MyScheduledReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent intent2 = new Intent(context, com.example.deneme.NotifyService.class);
context.startService(intent2);
}
}
For AndroidScheduledService Class
package com.example.deneme;
public class AutoStartNotifyReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
private final String BOOT_COMPLETED_ACTION = "android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED";
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if(intent.getAction().equals(BOOT_COMPLETED_ACTION)){
Intent myIntent = new Intent(context, com.example.deneme.AndroidScheduledService.class);
context.startService(myIntent);
}
}
}

Stopping the service won't stop the Alarm manager service. You have to stop it manually.
Intent intent = new Intent(this, com.example.deneme.AndroidScheduledService.class);
PendingIntent sender = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this,
0, intent, 0);
AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE);
alarmManager.cancel(sender);
To stop a service:
Intent stopServiceIntent = new Intent(getBaseContext(), yourServiceToStop.class);
getBaseContext().stopService(stopServiceIntent );

Alarm Repeating automatically

I ring alarm at particular user entered time. The problem is that after some time, the alarm rings again even if no time is set. This repeated alarm does not ring after after a fixed time. Sometimes it rings after 2 minutes, sometimes after 7 minutes and so on..I don't want this, It is ruining my project. Below is my code, can you help me:
Intent myIntent = new Intent(ReminderService.this, MyReceiver.class);
int randomPIN = (int)(Math.random()*9000)+1000;
pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(ReminderService.this, randomPIN, myIntent,pendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager)getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE);
alarmManager.set(AlarmManager.RTC, System.currentTimeMillis() , pendingIntent);
MyReceiver.java:
package app.aguai.medieazy;
import android.content.BroadcastReceiver;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
public class MyReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver
{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
Intent service1 = new Intent(context, MyAlarmService.class);
context.startService(service1);
}
}
And My AlarmService.java:
public class MyAlarmService extends Service
{
private NotificationManager mManager;
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0)
{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
#Override
public void onCreate()
{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onCreate();
}
#SuppressWarnings("static-access")
#Override
public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId)
{
super.onStart(intent, startId);
Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance();
int hour = c.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY);
int min=c.get(Calendar.MINUTE);
int sec=c.get(Calendar.SECOND);
String currenttime= String.valueOf(hour)+" : "+String.valueOf(min)+" : "+String.valueOf(sec);
PrescribedDB db=new PrescribedDB(getApplicationContext());
Intent i=new Intent(MyAlarmService.this,ReminderPopUp.class);
i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
i.putExtra("name",db.getMed(currenttime));
i.putExtra("time",currenttime);
startActivity(i);
}
#Override
public void onDestroy()
{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onDestroy();
}
}
I have to launch this project tomorrow and this is the only small bug in my big project. Please help. Thanx.

unable to stop service using AlarmManger in android

You need to CANCEL the alarm to stop the service
Intent intent = new Intent(MainActivity.this, myserveclass.class);
PendingIntent pintent = PendingIntent.getService(MainActivity.this, 0,
intent, 0);
AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) context.getSystemService(Context.ALARM_SERVICE);
alarmManager.cancel(pintent);
Hope it helps ツ

Continue service when app is killed

I have an activity with two buttons (ON and OFF): when I click the ON button a service starts. When I click the OFF botton the service stops. Now, my service does not have problems apart from when I kill the app from "Recent Apps" because in this circumstance the service restarts. I don't want that it restarts but I want that it continues working. The service is a START_STICKY.
This is my "service" code:
#Override
public void onCreate() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
myServiceReceiver = new MyServiceReceiver();
mNM = (NotificationManager)getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
// Display a notification about us starting. We put an icon in the status bar.
showNotification();
}
public class LocalBinder extends Binder {
SensorService getService() {
return SensorService.this;
}
}
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return mBinder;
}
// This is the object that receives interactions from clients. See
// RemoteService for a more complete example.
private final IBinder mBinder = new LocalBinder();
#Override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if (!running){
IntentFilter intentFilter = new IntentFilter();
intentFilter.addAction(MY_ACTION_FROMACTIVITY);
registerReceiver(myServiceReceiver, intentFilter);
running = true;
sensorManager=(SensorManager) getSystemService(Context.SENSOR_SERVICE);
sensorManager.registerListener(this, sensorManager.getDefaultSensor(Sensor.TYPE_LINEAR_ACCELERATION), SensorManager.SENSOR_DELAY_NORMAL);
}
//return super.onStartCommand(intent, flags, startId);
return START_STICKY;
}
#Override
public void onDestroy() {
Log.v(TAG,"destroy");
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
sensorManager.unregisterListener(this);
mNM.cancel(NOTIFICATION);
this.unregisterReceiver(myServiceReceiver);
super.onDestroy();
}
private void showNotification() {
CharSequence text = getText(R.string.activity);
Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.lifestyle, text, System.currentTimeMillis());
SharedPreferences flagNot = getSharedPreferences("flagNotification", 0);
final SharedPreferences.Editor editor = flagNot.edit();
editor.putBoolean("flagNotification",true);
editor.commit();
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(this, ActivityTab.class);
// The PendingIntent to launch our activity if the user selects this notification
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, notificationIntent, 0);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(this, getText(R.string.app_name),text, contentIntent);
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_NO_CLEAR;
// Send the notification.
mNM.notify(NOTIFICATION, notification);
}
public void onAccuracyChanged(Sensor sensor,int accuracy){
}
public void onSensorChanged(SensorEvent event){
......
}
public class MyServiceReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent arg1) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
int hostCmd = arg1.getIntExtra(CMD, 0);
if(hostCmd == CMD_STOP){
running = false;
stopSelf();
}
}
}
}
Can you help me,please?
Many thanks.
Implement startForeground in your service and send it a persistent notification.
private void startForeground() {
int ID = 1234;
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MainActivity.class);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
PendingIntent pendIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, intent, 0);
Notification.Builder builder = new Notification.Builder(getBaseContext());
builder.setContentIntent(pendIntent);
builder.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher);
builder.setTicker("CUSTOM MESSAGE");
builder.setWhen(System.currentTimeMillis());
builder.setAutoCancel(false);
builder.setContentTitle("Test Service");
builder.setContentText("CUSTOM MESSAGE");
Notification notification = builder.build();
startForeground(ID, notification);
}

Service not running at predefined time interval

I have defined REPEAT_TIME = 15 * 1000; but the message is displayed in 3 seconds or so.
My MainActivity:
public class MainActivity extends ListActivity {
private LocalWorldService s;
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
}
#Override
protected void onResume() {
super.onResume();
Intent intent = new Intent(this, LocalWorldService.class);
bindService(intent, mConnection, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE);
}
#Override
protected void onPause() {
super.onPause();
unbindService(mConnection);
}
private ServiceConnection mConnection = new ServiceConnection() {
public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName className, IBinder binder) {
LocalWorldService.MyBinder b = (LocalWorldService.MyBinder) binder;
s = b.getService();
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, "Connected", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT)
.show();
}
public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName className) {
s = null;
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, "Disconnected", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT)
.show();
}
};
My Service:
public class LocalWorldService extends Service {
private final IBinder mBinder = new MyBinder();
private ArrayList<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
#Override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
system.out.println("Message");
return Service.START_NOT_STICKY;
}
#Override
public void onDestroy() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onDestroy();
System.out.println("On destroy used");
}
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return mBinder;
}
public class MyBinder extends Binder{
LocalWorldService getService(){
return LocalWorldService.this;
}
}
public List<String> getWordList(){
return list;
}
Following are two class for BroadCastReceiver:
public class MyScheduleReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver{
private static final long REPEAT_TIME = 15 * 1000;
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
AlarmManager service = (AlarmManager) context.getSystemService(Context.ALARM_SERVICE);
Intent i = new Intent(context, MyStartServiceReceiver.class);
PendingIntent pending = PendingIntent.getBroadcast( context, 0, i, PendingIntent.FLAG_CANCEL_CURRENT);
Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
cal.add(Calendar.SECOND, 15);
service.setInexactRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, cal.getTimeInMillis(), REPEAT_TIME, pending);
}
And:
public class MyStartServiceReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent service = new Intent(context, LocalWorldService.class);
SharedPreferences pref = PreferenceManager
.getDefaultSharedPreferences(context);
Map<String, ?> x = pref.getAll();
boolean momoMagnetIsOn = (Boolean) x.get("key_momo_magnet");
if (momoMagnetIsOn){
context.startService(service);
}
else{
context.stopService(service);
}
}
Umm, did you notice that you actually tell it to be inexact? You should use setExact()
OK I got it myself. Because I am following this
I don't even know why to restart the system. But restarting the system changed the time interval.I previously had restarted phone with REPEAT_TIME = 3 * 1000 and thus message being displayed every 3 seconds. Any explanation would be welcomed. I am new to this topic. Thank you..

How to auto Trigger Alarm Manager on its own instead of onClick

Below is my code which is working very fine. I am calling service after 10 seconds on click of button using Alarm Manager. I want to automate this process say every 10 minutes it should trigger on its own and call service irrespective of device in SCREEN_OFF or SCREEN_ON. Currently i also suspect call is from "Activity" due to which if I close the application it would not trigger.
/*MainActivity.java*/
package com.example.alarmservice;
public class MainActivity extends Activity implements OnClickListener{
final static private long ONE_SECOND = 1000;
final static private long TEN_SECONDS = ONE_SECOND * 10;
PendingIntent pi;
BroadcastReceiver br;
AlarmManager am;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
setup();
findViewById(R.id.the_button).setOnClickListener(this);
}
private void setup() {
br = new BroadcastReceiver() {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context c, Intent i) {
Toast.makeText(c, "Rise and Shine!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
};
registerReceiver(br, new IntentFilter("com.example.alarmservice"));
//pi = PendingIntent.getBroadcast( this, 0, new Intent("com.authorwjf.wakeywakey"),0);
//am = (AlarmManager)(this.getSystemService( Context.ALARM_SERVICE ));
Intent intent = new Intent(MainActivity.this, ServiceClass.class);
pi = PendingIntent.getService(MainActivity.this, 0, intent, 0);
am = (AlarmManager)getSystemService(Context.ALARM_SERVICE);
}
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
am.set( AlarmManager.ELAPSED_REALTIME_WAKEUP, SystemClock.elapsedRealtime() + TEN_SECONDS, pi);
}
#Override
protected void onDestroy() {
am.cancel(pi);
unregisterReceiver(br);
super.onDestroy();
}
}
Service Class
/*ServiceClass.java*/
package com.example.alarmservice;
public class ServiceClass extends Service {
#Override
public void onCreate() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onCreate();
Log.d("Testing", "Service got created");
Toast.makeText(this, "ServiceClass.onCreate()", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
#Override
public void onDestroy() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onDestroy();
}
#Override
public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onStart(intent, startId);
Toast.makeText(this, "ServiceClass.onStart()", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
Log.d("Testing", "Service got started");
}
#Override

// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
}
