App crashes silent: try catch finally does not work - android

I have a small app where I play with activating an activity by code. There I have the strange problem that my app dies after enabling a second activity.
Here is my settings activity:
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_settings);
Log.e(getClass().getSimpleName(), "enableing activity...");
PackageManager pm = getPackageManager();
try {
ComponentName componentName = new ComponentName(this, Lancher.class);
pm.setComponentEnabledSetting(componentName,
PackageManager.COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE_ENABLED, 0);
} catch(Exception e) {
Log.e(getClass().getSimpleName(), "Got some trouble:", e);
} finally {
Log.e(getClass().getSimpleName(), "reached finally block");
}
Log.e(getClass().getSimpleName(), "wohoo activity is enabled");
// ...
And here are some lines of my logcat (I removed unrelated output):
I/ActivityManager(1384): Starting activity: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN cat=[android.intent.category.LAUNCHER] flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.example.test/.Settings } from pid 6566
...
E/Settings(6592): enableing activity...
I/PackageManager(1384): setEnabledSetting(), pkgName=com.example.test, clsName=com.example.test.Lancher, state=1, flag=0, pid=6592, uid=10203
...
D/WindowManagerImpl(1384): finishRemoveViewLocked, mViews[1]: com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView#4054d318
D/Process(1384): killProcess, pid=6592
I/ActivityManager(1384): Force stopping package com.example.test uid=10203
I/RegisterService(6601): android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED package:com.example.test
And my manifest:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.test"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="8"
android:targetSdkVersion="17" />
<application
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme" >
<activity
android:name=".Settings"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:exported="true">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
<activity
android:name=".Lancher"
android:enabled="false"
android:exported="false">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.HOME" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
</application>
</manifest>
Do you have any idea why my app crashes without any output from the finally block?

It works when you change flag from 0 to 1 or PackageManager.DONT_KILL_APP
pm.setComponentEnabledSetting(componentName,
PackageManager.COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE_ENABLED,
PackageManager.DONT_KILL_APP);
Maybe this is an android issue or misunderstanding android docs.
Do you need really need flag == 0?

Broadcast can not receive package_removed event after registered staticly in Manifest

I know there are similar question in statckoverflow, but they just do NOT work for me.
Broadcast receiver(staticly registe via manifest.xml) can NOT receive package_remove event after installing on device (without running main activity)
But the receiver works if main activity is running.
To register broadcastreceiver staticly in AndroidManifest.xml as followings
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.broadcastreceivertesting"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="8"
android:targetSdkVersion="18" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/>
<application
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme" >
<activity
android:name="com.example.broadcastreceivertesting.MainActivity"
android:label="#string/app_name" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
<receiver android:name="com.example.broadcastreceivertesting.PackageBroadcastReceiver" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED" />
<data android:scheme="package" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
</application>
</manifest>
PackageBroadcastReceiver as a receiver are like following:
public class PackageBroadcastReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver
{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
final String action = intent.getAction();
if (Intent.ACTION_PACKAGE_REMOVED.equals(action))
{
File file = new File("/storage/sdcard0/zzz/yyy");
if (file.exists())
{
file.delete();
}
boolean createDir = new File("/storage/sdcard0/zzz/").mkdirs();
Log.d("XXX", "XXXX createDir=" + createDir);
try
{
file.createNewFile();
}
catch (IOException e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
}
Do I miss something ?
Try changing this...
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED" />
<data android:scheme="package" />
to this...
<intent-filter>
<action android:value="android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED" />
<scheme android:value="package" />
For more information, see this link on receiving package broadcast intents...

Android Splash activity not redirecting

I have created a splash activity for my app. I am trying to redirect from my Splash activity to the Starting Point activity using AndroidManifest.xml but its not working. The Splash class loads up, and then it doesn't redirect to the Starting Point. And it doesn't give any errors either.
So can you please help me figure it out.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.myapp"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="8"
android:targetSdkVersion="19" />
<application
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme" >
<activity
android:name="com.example.myapp.Splash"
android:label="#string/app_name" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
<activity
android:name="com.example.myapp.StartingPoint"
android:label="#string/app_name" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.example.myapp.STARTINGPOINT" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
</application>
</manifest>
Now I have also tried
<activity
android:name=".Splash"
android:label="#string/app_name" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
<activity
android:name=".StartingPoint"
android:label="#string/app_name" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.example.myapp.STARTINGPOINT" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
So what can I do here. I am not getting redirected from Splash to my Starting Point.
Splash Code
package com.example.myapp;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
public class Splash extends Activity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.splash);
}
}
Add this code to your Splash.java
Thread timer = new Thread(){
public void run(){
try {
sleep(2000);
} catch (Exception e) {
// TODO: handle exception
} finally{
Intent i = new Intent(Flash_Activity.this, StartingPoint.class);
startActivity(i);
}
}
};
timer.start();
}
You are never calling anything to change the activity from your splash to the starting point. This thread will do that.
Use this easy way to redirect to acitvity
new Handler().postDelayed(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
Intent intent = new Intent(this,MainActivity.class);
startActivity(intent);
finish();
}
},2500);

LowBatteryReceiver does not exist and FATAL EXCEPTION: main errors android

I'm trying to make an application that when a toggle button is on starts a broadcast that check if battery low and disable wifi. Instead when the toggle is off starts another broadcast and the wifi starts. The problem is that the application crashes when i press the button. this is the code for the toggle and wifi:
public void getToggle(View view) {
// Is the toggle on?
boolean on = ((ToggleButton) view).isChecked();
if (on) {
PackageManager pm = getPackageManager();
ComponentName compName =
new ComponentName(getApplicationContext(),
LowBatteryReceiver.class);
pm.setComponentEnabledSetting(
compName,
PackageManager.COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE_ENABLED,
PackageManager.DONT_KILL_APP);
} else {
PackageManager pm = getPackageManager();
ComponentName compName =
new ComponentName(getApplicationContext(),
LowBatteryReceiver.class);
pm.setComponentEnabledSetting(
compName,
PackageManager.COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE_DISABLED,
PackageManager.DONT_KILL_APP);
}
}
//wifi enable/disable
public class LowBatteryReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
wifiManager = (WifiManager) MainActivity.this.getSystemService(Context.WIFI_SERVICE);
wifiManager.setWifiEnabled(false);
}
}
public class OkBatteryReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
wifiManager = (WifiManager) MainActivity.this.getSystemService(Context.WIFI_SERVICE);
wifiManager.setWifiEnabled(true);
}
}
This is the manifest. The receiver are inside <application> and <activity> tags:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

package="com.mycompany.myapp"

</intent-filter>
</receiver>
<activity
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:name=".about"
android:theme="#android:style/Theme.Holo.Light">
</activity>
</application>
How can i resolve? I can't find the error..
edit with logcat:
The reference from your manifest to the Receiver classes are not right. Right now, you reference them like they are a normal class within your package. Since they are inner classes, you should reference them like this (see the android:name attribute):
<receiver
android:name=".MainActivity$OkBatteryReceiver"
android:enabled="false" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BATTERY_OKAY" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Inner classes are referenced by the $.

Not allowed to start service Intent

I'm trying to call a service from a activity:
When I'm running the program the activity throws an error which says: Not allowed to start service Intent. What am I doing wrong? I'm sorry for possible stupid mistakes in the code, but I'm a newbie.
activity code:
public void startService() {
try {
startService (new Intent ( this , SmsReminderService.class)) ; }
catch (Exception e ) { Log.v("Error" , e.getMessage()) }
}
service code :
public class SmsReminderService extends Service {
#Override
public void onStart(Intent intent, int startid) {
Log.v("SSms", "Service started") ; }}
manifest:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="me.sms.smsReminder"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="10" />
<permission android:name="SEND_SMS"></permission>
<application
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/app_name" >
<activity
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:name=".SmsReminderActivity" >
<intent-filter >
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
<service android:name=".SmsReminderService"
android:permission="android.permission.BIND_REMOTEVIEWS">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name = "android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" ></action>
</intent-filter>
</service>
</application>
</manifest>
Thanks in advance, Tom
Why this in the service?
<intent-filter>
<action android:name = "android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" ></action>
</intent-filter>
Try to add this:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.BIND_REMOTEVIEWS" />
