Android - ImageView won't show pic taken with camera - android

Please bear with me... I've been looking around for DAYS for a working, bare-bones piece of code that starts the camera activity, takes a picture, and places it on a simple ImageView >.< The code posted below fires up the activity and takes the pic alright, but the image does not show on the ImageView! Just what is missing? :'(
public class MainActivity extends Activity
{
private static final int PICK_IMAGE = 0;
private static final int PICK_IMAGE_FROM_GALLERY = 1;
private Button mBtnCamera, mBtnGallery, mBtnCancel;
private ImageView mImageView;
private Uri mURI;
private String mPhotoPath;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
mImageView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imgDisplayImage);
mBtnCamera = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnPhotoCamera);
mBtnGallery = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnPhotoGallery);
mBtnCancel = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnCancel);
mBtnCamera.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener()
{
#Override
public void onClick(View v)
{
Intent camera = new Intent();
camera.setAction(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
camera.putExtra("crop", "true");
File f = Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES);
mURI = Uri.fromFile(new File(Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES), "myFile.jpg"));
camera.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, mURI);

}
});
}
#Override

{
if (requestCode == PICK_IMAGE)
{
// Result includes a Bitmap thumbnail?
if (data != null)
{
if (data.hasExtra("data"))
{
//Bitmap thumbnail = data.getParcelableExtra("data");
Bitmap thumbnail = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
mImageView.setImageBitmap(thumbnail);
}
}
// If there is no thumbnail data, the image will have been stored in target output URI.
else
{
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(
Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, new String[]
{

},
Media.DATE_ADDED,
null,
"date_added ASC"
);
if (cursor != null && cursor.moveToFirst())
{
do
{
mURI = Uri.parse(cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(Media.DATA)));
mPhotoPath = mURI.toString();
}
while (cursor.moveToNext());
cursor.close();
}
// Resize full image to fit out in image view.
int width = mImageView.getWidth();
int height = mImageView.getHeight();

}
}
}
}

I had same problem in some devices of samsung android Then I implemented logic to get path of captured photo.
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data)
{
if (requestCode == PICK_IMAGE)
{
Intent cameraIntent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
startActivityForResult(cameraIntent, CAMERA_REQUEST_CODE);
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, new String[]{Media.DATA, Media.DATE_ADDED, MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns.ORIENTATION}, Media.DATE_ADDED, null, "date_added ASC");
if(cursor != null && cursor.moveToFirst())
{
do {
uri = Uri.parse(cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(Media.DATA)));
photoPath = uri.toString();
}while(cursor.moveToNext());
cursor.close();
}
if(photoPath != null) {
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(photoPath);
///Do Implement your logic whatever you want.
mImageView.setImageBitmap(bitmap);
}
}
}

Tried and tested to work on a Galaxy S3 phone. Credit to TGMCians for his help.

Try adding
sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED, Uri.parse("file://"+ Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory())));
(and a slight delay) right inside the
if (requestCode == PICK_IMAGE)
block. I think the problem might be that your device isn't refreshing the Media store correctly.
(of course the better action would be to use MediaScanner to scan your file)

how to resize an image without being blurred , or with using picasso

I need help in improving my code .
What I am doing : There is a button in main activity, when clicked , user choose the image , after that, the image is passed through an intent to another activity(add_image.java) and displayed in an image view , after that I send the image to the server.
My problems:1) I want the best way to send the path image to second intent then convert it into image
2) then compress it as much as I can without loosing a lot of its quality.
the image size now is 376kb . so in my my app Ill displaying several images so in such size it will consume time and internet to load.( I am using picasso and fit() didnt decrease the size.)
here is my code :
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == 1 && resultCode == RESULT_OK && data != null && data.getData() != null) {
//file name
filePath = data.getData();
try {
// Bundle extras2 = data.getExtras();
bitmap = MediaStore.Images.Media.getBitmap(getContentResolver(), filePath);
ByteArrayOutputStream stream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
byte imageInByte[] = stream.toByteArray();
Intent i = new Intent(this, AddImage.class);
i.putExtra("image", imageInByte);
startActivity(i);
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace(); } } }
And here I am receiving the image
byte[] byteArray = getIntent().getByteArrayExtra("image");
encodedImage = Base64.encodeToString(byteArray, Base64);
bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(byteArray, 0, byteArray.length);
ImageView imageview = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageView);
imageview.setImageBitmap(bmp);
Try following code, you might need to modify some of the parameters as per your requirement :
Create MainActivity as following :
public class MainActivity extends Activity implements OnClickListener {
private final int REQUEST_IMAGE_GALLERY = 2000;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
findViewById(R.id.button).setOnClickListener(this);
}
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
switch (v.getId()) {
case R.id.button:
pickImageFromGallery();
break;
default:
break;
}
}
private void pickImageFromGallery() {
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK,
android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI);
intent.setType("image/*");
startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(intent, "Select File"),
REQUEST_IMAGE_GALLERY);
}
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (resultCode != Activity.RESULT_OK) {
return;
}
if (requestCode == REQUEST_IMAGE_GALLERY) {
Uri selectedImageUri = data.getData();
String[] filePathColumn = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(selectedImageUri,
filePathColumn, null, null, null);
cursor.moveToFirst();
int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]);
String picturePath = cursor.getString(columnIndex);
cursor.close();
Log.e("PATH", "" + picturePath);
Intent intent = new Intent(this, AddImage.class);
intent.putExtra("PATH", picturePath);
startActivity(intent);
}
}
}
Now create activity_main.xml as follows :
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<Button
android:id="#+id/button"
style="?android:attr/buttonStyleSmall"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="ChooseButton" />
</LinearLayout>
Then we need to create AddImage activity as follows :
public class AddImage extends Activity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.add_image);
ImageView imageView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image_view);
if (getIntent() != null) {
String path = getIntent().getStringExtra("PATH");
Log.e("PATHR", "" + path);
new BitmapWorkerTask(imageView).execute(path);
}
}
private boolean isNeedToBeScaled(String path) {
File file = new File(path);
if (file.length() > (1024 * 1024) && isExist(path)) {
Log.e("SCALEIMAGE", "SACLE");
return true;
}
return false;
}
private boolean isExist(String path) {
File file = new File(path);
return file.exists();
}
private Bitmap getScaledImage(String path) {
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
BitmapFactory.decodeFile(path, options);
int srcWidth = options.outWidth;
int srcHeight = options.outHeight;
int[] newWH = new int[2];
newWH[0] = srcWidth / 2;
newWH[1] = (newWH[0] * srcHeight) / srcWidth;
int inSampleSize = 2;
while (srcWidth / 2 >= newWH[0]) {
srcWidth /= 2;
srcHeight /= 2;
inSampleSize *= 2;
options.inJustDecodeBounds = false;
options.inDither = false;
options.inSampleSize = inSampleSize;
options.inScaled = false;
options.inPreferredConfig = Bitmap.Config.RGB_565;
}
Bitmap sampledSrcBitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(path, options);
return sampledSrcBitmap;
}
class BitmapWorkerTask extends AsyncTask<String, Void, Bitmap> {
private final WeakReference<ImageView> imageViewReference;
public BitmapWorkerTask(ImageView mImageView) {
imageViewReference = new WeakReference<ImageView>(mImageView);
}
#Override
protected Bitmap doInBackground(String... params) {
Bitmap scaled = null;
if (isNeedToBeScaled(params[0])) {
Bitmap d;
d = getScaledImage(params[0]);
int nh = (int) (d.getHeight() * (512.0 / d.getWidth()));
scaled = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(d, 512, nh, true);
} else {
scaled = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(params[0], null);
}
return scaled;
}
#Override
protected void onPostExecute(Bitmap result) {
if (imageViewReference != null && result != null) {
final ImageView imageView = imageViewReference.get();
if (imageView != null) {
imageView.setImageBitmap(result);
imageView.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
}
}
}
}

Code
if (userSelection.equals("Gallery")) {

if (userSelection.equals("Other")) {
intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
intent.setType("file/*");
startActivityForResult(intent, 2);
btChooseDoc.setText("Choose File");
}
}
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
// Bitmap camera;
ByteArrayOutputStream bytes = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
if (requestCode == 1 && resultCode == getActivity().RESULT_OK) {
camera = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
camera.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 60, bytes);
galleryImage = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(galleryImage, 150, 150, false);
image.setImageBitmap(camera);
}
if (requestCode == 0 && resultCode == getActivity().RESULT_OK) {
galleryUri = data.getData();
try {
galleryImage = decodeUri(getActivity(), galleryUri);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
galleryImage.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 60, bytes);
galleryImage = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(galleryImage, 150, 150, false);
image.setImageBitmap(galleryImage);
}
}
Try this way,hope this will help you to solve your problem.

Hello You Can Try Below code to get path of selected Image from gallery..
To Open Gallery...
private static int RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE = 1; //variable declared globally
on ButtonClickListener()
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI);
startActivityForResult(i, RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE);
Activity Result :
if(data != null){
Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
String[] filePathColumn = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
Cursor cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(selectedImage,filePathColumn, null, null, null);
cursor.moveToFirst();
int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]);
String picturePath = cursor.getString(columnIndex); //path of image...
cursor.close();
}

Why can't some images be displayed on ImageView (Android)?

When I pick an image from my gallery, screenshots are shown but some images taken from camera aren't shown.
To be more specific, images taken using the system Camera app can't be shown while the ones taken using Camera360 can.
I wonder if there's any problem with my code. If there isn't, maybe it's because of my phone?
Thanks in advance. Sorry, my English isn't very good.

Unable To Pass Image Data Back To Android Application

I have been trying to pass the image data back to the app after capturing it. However, it always crash while trying to return to the my app.
The Code for starting the intent is:
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
imgView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.ImageView);
upload = (Button) findViewById(R.id.Upload);
snap = (Button) findViewById(R.id.Snap);
select = (Button) findViewById(R.id.Select);
subject = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.Subject);
msg = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.Message);snap.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
String imageFilePath = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().
getAbsolutePath() + "/picture.jpg";
File imageFile = new File(imageFilePath);
Uri imageFileUri = Uri.fromFile(imageFile); // convert path to Uri
Intent it = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
it.putExtra(android.provider.MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, imageFileUri);
startActivityForResult(it, CAMERA_RESULT);
}
});
}
The code to receive the intent is:
case CAMERA_RESULT:
if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
// Get Extra from the intent
Bundle extras = data.getExtras();
// Get the returned image from extra
Bitmap bmp = (Bitmap) extras.get("data");
imgView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.ImageView);
imgView.setImageBitmap(bmp);
}
break;
I also receive the following exceptions when the app crash occurred:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to resume activity {com.NYP.estatemanagement/com.NYP.estatemanagement.MainActivity}: java.lang.RuntimeException: Failure delivering result ResultInfo{who=null, request=100, result=-1, data=null} to activity {com.NYP.estatemanagement/com.NYP.estatemanagement.MainActivity}: java.lang.NullPointerException

this (below) from #Biraj Zalavadia (answer) :
public String getAbsolutePath(Uri uri) {
String[] projection = { MediaColumns.DATA };
#SuppressWarnings("deprecation")
Cursor cursor = managedQuery(uri, projection, null, null, null);
if (cursor != null) {
int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaColumns.DATA);
cursor.moveToFirst();
return cursor.getString(column_index);
} else
return null;
}
and
String selectedImagePath = getAbsolutePath(data.getData());
is all I needed
