android sqlite multiple search of records - android

I'm working on a symptoms checker android application where user can check as many symptoms he may be having. Please do check what I have tried so far:

The trick is you must have one insertion character (?) for each String in your Array.
One solution is to use a loop:

Get Skype name from Contacts list

I'm getting skype contacts in my android device with this code:

This code works fine, but it returns the skype display names.However is there any possibility to get Skype name not the display name so I can call or video call using that Skype name?.

You need to query over the Data table not RawContacts, the Data table's data is organized by mimetypes, you just need to find the mimetype containing the info you're looking for, in skype's case it's: "vnd.android.cursor.item/com.skype.android.skypecall.action"

Make sure you ALWAYS close cursors via c.close()
I'm not incredibly familiar with the Android-Skype API, but it looks like this line
.getColumnIndex(RawContacts.DISPLAY_NAME_ALTERNATIVE);
is what pulls the display name instead of the username. You could check the API and see if there's another RawContacts.method that fetches the username instead.

Getting the result of cursor and turning it into a string for TextView

This is my query :

I want to display the result of that query in a TextView but I don't know how to, so naturally I look for an answer. I find a few answers around and come up with this :

Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Couldn't read row 0, col -1 from CursorWindow. Make sure the Cursor is initialized correctly before accessing data from it.
Which got me a bit confused since the usual fix for that error is using cur.moveToFirst(); which is used in both instances... what am I doing wrong exactly?
try like this:
keep the column index as 0 because that cursor will have only one column.

You are attempting to use the index of db.colDateDue. However, that does not correlate with your actual query. You can happily pull the first result with:
str = c.getString(0);

How to write this request using rawQuery() instead of query() ? (code inside)

I am trying to write an SQL database request using .query instead of .rawQuery (i have been told it's more efficient, even though not everyone seem to agree with this...).
If I had to write it in SQL, it would be approximately something like this :

The problem with this is that the system is doing this :
select .....
from .....
where COL_CAT1 = myVariable1

and then it crashes because it expects to compare each variable with a new column, which is not what I want: I have more inputs variable than columns.
It's actually the " =?" which seems not to be appropriate, but no way to find how to write this kind of request, most of documentation is about rawQuery() and not query(). Thanks in advance.

Because you are creating an extensive query, you may want to consider using:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/database/sqlite/SQLiteQueryBuilder.html
This will allow you to basically create a longer where clause. However; this should also theoretically be possible with a rawQuery with a StringBuilder, but in best practices its better to use the wrapper approach method.

How to get Contact ID, Email, Phone number in one SQLite query ? Contacts Android Optimization

I want to fetch All Contacts atleast with one phone Number, also I want all Phone Numbers and All emails for every Contact.

If you are targeting 2.3 you need to account for the fact that HAS_PHONE_NUMBER is not available through the joins used when querying Data.

I went through the exact same problem. Since then I build my own solution which is inspired from this post yet a bit different. Now I'd like to share it as my first StackOverFlow answer :-)
Its quite similar to the double cursor approach suggested by Jens. The idea is to
1- fetch relevant contact from the Contacts table
2- fetch relevant Contacts information (mail, phone, ...)
3- combine these results
The "relevant" is up to you of course but the important point is the performance !
Besides, I'm sure other solutions using well suited SQL query might as well do the job but here I only want to use the Android ContentProvider

3 Combining
Now let's combine both Contact and their respective informations. The idea is to use HashMap(Key, String) where Key is the Contact id and String is whatever you like (name, email, ...).
First, I run through the Contact cursor (which is alphabetically ordered) and store names and picture uri in two different HashMap. Note also that I store all Contact id's in a List in the very same order that Contacts appear in the cursor. Lets call this list contactListId
I do the same for the Contact informations (mail and email). But now I take care of the correlation between the two cursor : if the CONTACT_ID of an email or phone does not appear in contactListId it is put aside. I check also if the email has already been encountered. Notice that this further selection can introduce asymmetries between the Name/Picture content and the Email/Phone HashMap content but don't worry.
Eventually, I run over the contactListId list and build a list of Contact object taking care of the fact that : a contact must have information (keySet condition) and that the contact must have at least a mail or an email (the case where mail == null && phone == null may appear if the contact is a Skype contact for instance).

I forgot to check the phone key set : it should rather looks like

How to join multiple tables with managedQuery?

I'm trying to make a query where I get data from two tables but it won't show me any result. I know there is a result because in SQLite3 it displays at least one, e.g.

Your question isn't really clear (you should include some of your code!), so I might not answer your question as you hoped. But following is a simple example I have where I join two tables in one query:
