Update TextView in ListView in real time - android

I am having a problem updating a TextView in real time. I want to update the TextView of a ListView with a custom adapter in real time. I have my socket I/O handler on which I receive a JSON message. I want to parse this JSON and put that text into the particular list row with setText(). How do I get the index of that ListView row and update its TextView?

You should alter the items in your ListAdapter, and then call notifyDataSetChanged().
Example:
//Creating and adding ListAdapter to ListView
MyObject myFirstObject = new MyObject("Test1");
MyObject mySecondObject = new MyObject("Test2");
MyAdapter myAdapter = new MyAdapter();
myAdapter.add(myFirstObject);
myAdapter.add(mySecondObject);
myListView.setAdapter(myAdapter);
When updating a particular position:
myAdapter.getItem(position).text = "My updated text";
myAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();

it successfully show the data from database but not clickable.
This kind of problem occur when another object on the list is either focusable or clickable. The solution is to:
Inspect your layout xml file and make sure that none of the views you are having on your list has its android:clickable set to true.
Avoid to use any clickable view like a button on your list, as this will make your list not clickable.
First of all find the views which are getting focus and not allow list to be focused and touch in all other views put
focusable=false and focusintouchMode=false in xml
and if it is still not allowing your listview to be clicked then can share your problem again.
Seem your view is not taking focus in listview.It's the issue of view when you click the list row, it is always the capture other view event. apply below property to your main layout in row file (list_pending.xml) and let me know whether its works or not?

Show data with hidden ID with android

I have JSONArray with several JSONObjects and each JSONObject contains Name and ID. How can I show only the name and leave the ID hidden. I need to be able to get the ID afterwards by knowing which row was pressed. I don't care how to show it, with list view, table, grid or whatever. This is how I get the data from the JSONArray:

After the first answer I created a Class name DisNameID containing diaplyName and ID and the toString is return displayName. The listView on this activity is called "frndLst". This is the code that should fill the listview:

Now I have 2 new questions: How to change the adapter to hold my new class - DisNameID? What to write instead of the XXX on the new adapter constructor?
Create Holder object, override toString:
class Holder {
private String name;
private String id;
//getters and setters;
public String toString(){ return name };
}
Then add such objects to your adapter. This way, the name will be displayed, but you can get Holder objects from your adapter using this method and use the id.

ListView refresh items

I have a ListView with some items, but after I update a Database I'd like to "refresh" the ListView. Anyone can help me?

Use a Comparator. There you define what to compare and how, in the compare() method you define what should be returned from two of your instances. Here's an example for a String Comparator.

adapter.sort(myComparator);
This way, when you add an item, you don't have to recreate the whole Adapter but it will be sorted instead. But don't forget to call .notifyDataSetChanged() on your adapter, this will make (amongs other things) to refresh your layout.
Try using ArrayAdapter.insert method to insert objects in specific index.
At first take a look at this tutorial about SQlite database in Android.
So, your problem is that new items are added at the end of the list. Huh? This is because you have not notified Adapter from the changes of the Array.

Your first solution is to clear Adapter before updating Database. Sth like:
Adapter.clear(); can do that. This way your Adapter is empty before updating database and new items are inserted. You can use Adapter.notifyDataSetChanched(); for awaring Adapter about the changes.
In above tutorial there is a custom Adapter. It uses this code:
List<String> Array = new ArrayList<String>();
Array = (ArrayList<String>) db.getAllContacts();
Adapter = new MyCustomAdapter(getActivity() [in fragment case or getApplicationContext() in Activity case], R.layout.simple_list_item_1, Array);
This way there is no need for clearing Adapter because it automatically does that. Wherever you use this method, updated adapter is used for showing the list.

Showing an ArrayList content on a Toast

I have a listView and I want to print the arrrayList which contains the selected items.
I can show the choice that I choose every time. i.e. if I select a choice, I can print it in a toast (I mark it in my code as a comment), but I want to print the whole choices together.
Any help please?

If I understand correctly, you want to display the contents of your arrayList in a Toast.
Like donfuxx said, you need to create your arrayList outside of your onclicklistener.
As the user clicks an item, it will be added to your arrayList.
Then loop over the list to fill a string called allItems, then show allItems in a toast.

Well you have the right concept, jsut wrong execution here is the part you missed out on:`
ArrayList<String> checked = new ArrayList<String>();
checked.add((position+1), listItem);
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),checked.get((position+1)), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();`
You have to get the position of the element in the ArrayList which you require to fetch, hence
checked.get(array position of element here)
If you want to show every item that is in the ArrayList you can use a simple loop and add them to a string like this:

sort array list from second item android

i have a array list for using it in spinner ,i have first value i spinner as title and i want to sort array list from second item in the spinner but i dont know how to do this i am using below trick but it sort whole array list including first item which is title so how to statr sorting from second item...

Why not remove the title / only add the title after the list has been sorted?
How about this
List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();

String title = list.get(0);
list.remove(0);
Collections.sort(list);
list.add(0, title);
One way would be to split the arraylist like
estado1.subList(1,estado1.size()-1);
This would return a sublist excluding your title.
Use bubble sort! and start at index = 1!
