I'm using ActionBarSherlock and I wonder if it is possible to have a popup menu at the bottom of the screen additionally? I'd like this menu to appear when the user clicks the default menu button (hardware for older mobiles).
How can I do this?
The actionbar menu overflow is automatically replaced by items in "menu" popup if you have a hardware menu button.

In order for items to appear in there you should set
android:showAsAction="never"
to your menu items
You must take a look at the How to Create Android Menus?
I hope this will help you.

You Just Need to Change in Your Menu XML file.
Things you have to change are:
On which menu item click you are getting this popup
1) Change its app:showAsAction
app:showAsAction="always"
2) Set your own icon to this item
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
everyone! I have question for Android guys. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.
So my problem:
I have application with ActionBarCompat and in this action bar I have a lot of different hiden menu items, which appear only if user click on menu button at action bar. Also I have couple menu items at action bar, which always visible.
I need some customization for one of visible menu item. When user click on this menu item (let's say it would be "Add new" menu item), I need to show different menu in this case. And if user click on standart menu item, it should act like usually.
So I really confused. And I have no idea how I can do it. Maybe someone had the same problem or similar. Thank you!

I am trying to set image in overflow menu items like as in flipkart. But I am unable to set image. Can anybody provide me code snippet for doing this
If you are trying on Android 3.0+, it won't show icons in the menu items. Google has removed them in order to make the menu look similar on different apps. See icon in menu not showing in android and on Android Developers blog.
It is not possible to add icons in overflow menu item as per googles new change, If u still want, try this.
for device with overflow hardware button:
override hardware button click and show a transparent fragment with list view as like over flow menu in samsung devices(S3, s4) with icon.
for devices without hardware button:
use sub menu to look as menu. google still supports icon in sub menu.
That's how it's supposed to work.
If the icon shows in the action bar, it will only show the icon (with an optional title by using android:showAsAction="always|withText" or android:showAsAction="ifRoom|withText").
If the icon does not show in the action bar, it will only show in the overflow menu as text. Note that there is no "withIcon" enum value for the android:showAsAction attribute.
i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to choose which menu items go in to the actiobar and which ones go into the overflow menu, i have five menu items and the ones i want in the actionbar go in the overflow and the one i want in the overflow are in the actiobar.
How can i rearrange the actionbars?
Any help will be appreciated
There are two things you can do.
First you can set the flag
android:showAsAction="ifRoom"
This will show items if there is room, if not they will be placed in the overflow menu.
Second, the XML file is scanned linearly. So just put your actions that you in the overflow menu to the bottom.
The documentation states
Menu items that are not promoted to an action item are available in the overflow menu, revealed by
either the device Menu button (when available) or by an "overflow menu" button in the action bar
(when the device does not include a Menu button).

How to force overflow menu on android actionbar compat?
How can I remove or hide the soft menu button in the bottom bar but still keep the overflow menu button in the ActionBar.
I have set the target API to:
android:targetSdkVersion="11"
as suggested here.
My app does have menu items so I am overriding the onCreateOptionsMenu().
The menu button appears both in the right side of the ActionBar and in a bottom bar. I simple don't want the space in the bottom of screen to be wasted for a duplicate menu button. I have seen apps like YouTube or Google Play which only have menu button in the ActionBar so I assume there should be a way to do this.
Raising target API to 14 (android:targetSdkVersion="14") solved this problem.
