Pydev+Eclipse (with SL4A) to write full android apps? - android

I am trying to develop a few android applications and all that I have managed to do was write scripts on Eclipse with PyDev and transfer them to my Android phone with SL4A. These work run fine and work great but I want a full application (like one you could click from 'desktop'). I cannot find any information in how to do that. Can anybody throw a bone?

You can use AIDE+sl4a to create apk files, but them will require Python library

Writting React Native with android and iOS code in the same code base?

Looking through the documentation (https://facebook.github.io/react-native/) it seems you need 2 different files ones with file ending in .ios the other .android
I find it hugely confusing now I'm starting to write code do I need 2 repos to write this code
Yes, you do need to write to the specific platform you are working on at the time. If you are working on iOS / Xcode, then the .ios files will automatically be the once run when compiled, and vice versa.
If you are not writing any platform specific code, you can copy the code from whatever components are working on in your current platform over to the other platform, and they should work fine there.
You could use some strategy to share the same code base.
I found a project where it was made:

is it possible to create an android 1.5.1 app using Android Studio?

is it possible to create an Android 1.5.1 app using Android Studio?
Yes it is old but still used...
It only has to read 3 different txt files which are located on local network, containing 1 line of text each and display it under each other in portrait view.
Refresh ones a minute should be ok.
And it has to have a dropdown menu so you can choose which number of device it is, so from 1-10 is ok and according that read the txt files which belongs to that device nr.
I can't use a webpage because i cannot create a local server for it. So i need a little app.
To create the txt files i use a windows program.
I use Livecode (since short) but it can't create apps below Android froyo 2.2.
Any help on this would be highly appreciated. As i don't know anything about java.
It's only for local use, nothing commercial or anything
Thanks for any help on this!
You should try using PhoneGap (Cordova) http://phonegap.com which is basically a HTML-Webview, wrapped up in an App, so you can code the whole thing using JavaScript, and it is still a real app.
With this it should be very easy to do that, even if you "don't speak Java".
But to answer your initial question, yes it should be possible to create an Android App for 1.5.1 with Android Studio. You just need to install the right SDK/Packages etc with the SDK Manager.
Have fun coding.

Can we change Android source code using Android NDK..?

I am having a requirement like to add a custom setting to android native settings(like when we go to Home->settings->Display we have Screen timeout,Animation,Auto-rotate screen,Brightness settings available. But i want to add one more setting like auto-screentimeout there.i,e i need to change the source code of android..some thing related to forked android consept)so,Is this possible..?if so can we use NDK for this...
Thanks in advance...
You can download the Android source code and then create your own settings APK. However it will probably only run on the phone you are testing it, and I assume you run into problems when using different Android versions or some modifications by device manufacturers.
Read more http://source.android.com/ on how to get started.
Alternatively you could extract the settings APK from your current phone, decompile it with apktools, and then re-create it again with your changes.
Read more on http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
In both ways you need to have root access to install the new APK... and probably a custom recovery to restore from a nandroid backup when your modification crashes!
The Android NDK is for writing application code in C or C++.
What you want is to build your own version of the Android firmware; it is a completely separate issue. Have a look at this for starters.

How does android source code work?

I have download a set of android source code, which has folders such as "bionic, bootable, build, dalvik, development, frameworks, hadware, packages, prebuilt" and so on. When I browse the whole code, wonder how "import android.preference.PreferenceActivity;" works in Settings.java(D:\android-srce\Google-source\packages\apps\Settings\src\com\android\settings\Settings.java). I guess there is a android.jar file somewhere after compilation. But how does Settings.java import PreferenceActivity correctly?? I'm a beginner in Android, please help me.
Sounds like you have downloaded the source code to the Android OS. If you want to build your own ROMS then you need to study about building the OS for a particular hardware platform. This is not trivial.
If you want to build an Android app that runs on an Android device then you want to download the SDK instead - start at Android SDK and follow your nose, buy a book, read the sample code.
There is not a lot of information how to change parts of Android. However, you can read information that is connected with the aosp tag. The first cite is source.android.com After the installation of android build system you can see video from marakana group. You'll find a lot of valuable information there.

App Generator on Android

I want to develop an app which will create another Android app as output.
So my question is, whether this thing is possible in Android?
I got one PC software called "App Inventor" which takes data from user and give .apk file as
output, which can be installed in Android device.
This same thing my app should do on Android device.
Can any one give any ideas regarding this?
So my question is, whether this thing is possible in Android?
An Android app can generate text files. These text files may represent Java source code, layout XML, etc. However, an Android app cannot run a Java compiler or the Android tool chain.
