Deleting the checked items in the listview - android

I want to make an app which includes a listView with check boxes and a two buttons named add and delete selected. I want to delete all the item that are checked in the list view.I am unable to do that despite of my lot of efforts. Any help would be appreciated.
Here is my code
package com.example.chkbokinlistview;
public class Adapter extends ArrayAdapter<Movies> {
ArrayList<Movies> data;
Context context;
int id;
private Holder h;
public Adapter(Context context, int textViewResourceId, ArrayList<Movies> objects) {
super(context, textViewResourceId, objects);
this.data = objects;
this.context = context;
this.id = textViewResourceId;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
final int p = position;
View v = convertView;
LayoutInflater l = ((Activity)context).getLayoutInflater();
h = new Holder();
if (v == null) {
v = l.inflate(id, parent, false);
h.tv = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.textView1);
h.cb = (CheckBox) v.findViewById(R.id.checkBox1);
v.setTag(h);
}else{
h = (Holder) v.getTag();
h.cb.setChecked(true);
}
h.tv.setText(data.get(position).movieName);
h.cb.setChecked(data.get(position).deleted);
return v;
}
public void delete(){
//how to delete all the items that are checked
}
class Holder{
TextView tv;
CheckBox cb;
}
}
MainActivity.java
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.lv);
bDelete = (Button) findViewById(R.id.bDelete);
bAdd = (Button) findViewById(R.id.bAdd);
list = new ArrayList<Movies>();
a = new Adapter(this, R.layout.listitem, list);
lv.setAdapter(a);
bDelete.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
a.delete();
}
});
bAdd.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
final EditText et = new EditText(MainActivity.this);
dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(MainActivity.this)
.setPositiveButton("OK", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(DialogInterface arg0, int arg1) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
list.add(new Movies(et.getText().toString(), false));
a.notifyDataSetChanged();
dialog.dismiss();
}
})
.setTitle("ADD Movie")
.setView(et)
.create();
dialog.show();
}
});
}

On checking the checkbox add that position in an ArrayList let say toBeDeleted, and when you click delete button, just remove items from your ArrayList named data according to the positions that you have in toBeDeleted and call the adapter method notifyDataSetChanged().
Add a checkedChangedListener in the getView method for your CheckBox.
h.cb.setOnCheckedChangeListener(new OnCheckedChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onCheckedChanged(CompoundButton arg0,
boolean arg1) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if (arg1) {
list.add(position);
} else {
for (int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++) {
if (list.get(i) == position) {
list.remove(i);
break;
}
}
}
}
});
Where list is a ArrayList<Integer>,
and for deleting
private void delete() {
for(int i = 0 i<list.size;i++)
data.remove(list.get(i));
}
but before deleting you have to sort the list in decending order, in order to remove correctly, otherwise you may get an IndexOutofBoundException

As I could not find any perfect solution i tried it in a different manner alough its a bit diffenrt from what i wanted i.e on click i used my displayListView() funtion and got the work done
ischeckboxVisible = true;
Runnable run = new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
displayListView();
}
};
getActivity().runOnUiThread(run);
and coming to getView i have used:
if (!ischeckboxVisible)
{
holder.name.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
if (ischeckboxVisible)
{
holder.name.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
so every time i do the click it changes the ischeckboxVisible to either true or false and initializes the displatListview() and it works.
I have had help from here Android hide and show checkboxes in custome listview on button click
Hope this might come in handy for some one out there.
Please check below code if it helps you,
listView.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,
int position, long id) {
// When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text
Database_Contact contact = (Database_Contact) contactlist.get(position);
contact.setSelected(!contact.isSelected());
if(contact.isSelected())
{
((CheckBox) view.findViewById(R.id.checkbox_all)).setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
else
{
((CheckBox) view.findViewById(R.id.checkbox_all)).setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
}
});

Custom spinner is not invoke custom listview?

I have a custom listview and spinner.First of all i am filling the listview and then i am clicking dropdown spinner.I am choosing a item(city).I want to update listview with new result.But whatever i can custom adapter getview is not call. So listview is not update. This is my screen
How can i do it?
I am filling spinner here

I'd create a method to update the adapter once an item on your spinner is chosen:
cityspinner.setOnItemSelectedListener(new OnItemSelectedListener() {
public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,int position, long id) {
city = (String) parent.getItemAtPosition(position);
resetCinema(city); //or onRestart();
}
public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> parent){
}
});
And resetCinema(city) rechages the view depending on the city value. You can do this manually:
public void resetCinema(String city) {
//show list view elements depending on city
}
or just call a refresh of the whole Activity:
protected void onRestart() {
Intent refresh = new Intent(this, Main.class);
startActivity(refresh);//Start the same Activity
finish(); //finish Activity.
}
I suggest you to call
adapter2.notifyDataSetChange();
But anyway there is no need to initialize a new adapter every time.
you should create a method inside the adapter like this:
public void setMyArray(ArrayList<Cinema> items) {
myArray.clear();
myArray.addAll(items);
notifyDataSetChange();
}

Update Listview item and get values using BaseAdapter Android

I have a listview of that have multiple items.I want to update the items value on click of button and want to get the the values of all the items on click of the button.But i am unable to do that.Please help me to get this functionality
Activity code
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_ItemValue);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_iween_booking_page);
listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.passengerList);
showPassengerListView(passengerList);
}
getValue.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
if(){
}else{
//Here i have to get all the value of the listview items in a array
}
}
});
}
private void showPassengerListView(final String[] passengerList) {
listView.setAdapter(new PassengerListUpdate(passengerList));
listView.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,
int position, long id) {
}
});
}
public void passengerInformationPopup(final String[] passengerList, final int position) {
final Dialog dialog= new Dialog(MainActivity.this,R.style.Dialog_Fullscreen);
dialog.setContentView(R.layout.passenger_details_dialog);
dialog.show();
setValueDialog.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
isSuccess= true;
if(isSuccess){
dialog.cancel();
//Here i Have to Update the item at position with some value
}
}
});
}
public void goBack(View v) {
finish();
}
class PassengerListUpdate extends BaseAdapter {
String[] ItemValue;
public PassengerListUpdate(String[] text) {
ItemValue = text;
}
public int getCount() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return ItemValue.length;
}
public Object getItem(int arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
public long getItemId(int position) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return position;
}
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater();
View vi;
vi = inflater.inflate(android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, parent, false);
TextView ItemValue;
ItemValue = (TextView) vi.findViewById(android.R.id.text1);
ItemValue.setText(ItemValue[position]);
return (vi);
}
}
Please help me to how to set a items value and how to get the listview values
[Want] to get the the values of all the items on click of the button
To get all values, create a method getAllValues() inside PassengerListUpdate:
public String[] getAllValues() {
return ItemValue;
}
Declare your adapter globally:
PassengerListUpdate myAdapter;
Initialize it in showPassengerListView(String[]):
myAdapter = new PassengerListUpdate(passengerList);
listView.setAdapter(myAdapter);
To get the list of all values on button click:
button.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
if (myAdapter != null) {
String[] allValues = myAdapter.getAllValues();
}
}
});
I want to update the items value on click of button
To update the values, you can simply reinitialize and set myAdapter:
button.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
myAdapter = new PassengerListUpdate(updatedPassengerList);
listView.setAdapter(myAdapter);
}
});
First, in order to get whole the values inside ListView. You can get number of item in adapter, and then get value one by one by its position.
ArrayList<String> results = new ArrayList<String>();
final int count = mMyAdapter.getCount();
for( int i = 0; i < count; ++i ){
String item = mMyAdapter.getItem(i);
results.add(item);
}
return results;
Second, in order to add or update the value of ListView, in general extending ArrayAdapter is much easier than implementing BaseAdapter, because of ArrayAdapter support add / remove / insert method by itself. For example,
public class MyAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String> {
public MyAdapter(Context context) {
super(context, 0);
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater();
View vi;
vi = inflater.inflate(android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, parent, false);
TextView ItemValue;
ItemValue = (TextView) vi.findViewById(android.R.id.text1);
ItemValue.setText(ItemValue[position]);
return (vi);
}
}
And you can updating adapter's value quiet directly,
mMyAdapter.add("Add Item");
mMyAdapter.remove("Remove Item");
mMyAdapter.insert("Insert Item", 0);
After finishing the jobs, you can call adapter's notifyDatSetChanged() method in order to update the UI, and I think this is more efficient way than setting up the new adapter every time whenever data is updated.
mMyAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();

My ListView consist an ImageView and a TextView i need to get the Text from the TextView

My ListView consist an ImageView and a TextView I need to get the Text from the TextView.
int the position of my list where I press (onItemClick).
How can I do that?
The 1 class have a Button then when you press I moving to the next activity (CountryView)
and expect to get back from the next activity with a text (name of the selected Country)
The 2 classes have a ListView (ImageView and TextView) the data is getting from a database and showing on the ListView.
My problem is to get back to the 1 class the selected name of the country.
Thanks so much for helping!!!

When you add things to the list, you can add hashmaps to the arraylist which the adapter looks at. Then you can grab the values which are name value pairs.
I think you want to get the position of the list you clicked, Its simple you can use OnItemClickListener as follows
YourList.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener(){
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2,
long arg3) {
int position=arg2;
// where position is the clicked position
} }
If you stored your data in String array pass this position say array[position] to string array you can get the Text..
