i'm very very new to android/java and am trying to create a basic video player on android.
i have researched all throughout stackoverflow, google, youtube, etc but i really can't seem to find a way to do this..
my goal is to have a listview that shows all the compatible videos on the android device. then, after tapping on one of the items in the listview, the video would play.
i did find some very helpful resources, such as http://www.android-trainer.com/playing-with-videos-from-content-providers-part-3-.html , but this code uses the deprecated method managedquery()
i was then lead to this website: http://mobile.tutsplus.com/tutorials/android/android-sdk_loading-data_cursorloader/comment-page-1/#comment-15832 to find a way around the managedquery() method, but judging from the comments, this tutorial is ridden with bugs... i tried to debug the tutorial but i was hoping someone could give me a clear explanation of what to do...
should i focus on the first link and figure out how to go around the deprecated managedquery() method? if so, how do i go about avoiding the managedquery() method?
or is there another, perhaps simpler, way of creating a video player that can play all the videos in the device?
thank you
Where do you want the list to come from? Are you ok with using the default video player?
Where are the videos stored?
ManagedQuery (and cursorloader) is for traversing through a database. You don't need that.

I'm trying to create a Visualizer with the Visualizer Class. The documentation says to use "0" as session id to get the audio output, however this seems to be deprecated and only results in an error.
I searched for ways to get the currently active AudioSession ID's but can't find anything that remotely helps me out. All samples only provide info on how to do it with playing music by yourself, but I want to use it for visualizing Spotify and other music or videos being played, so that's not an option for me.
I know that it IS possible. There are apps like HueManic that work completely fine. I just can't find any information on how it would be still possible.
I am looking to make a mobile app that will allow the users to take X number of videos and it will combine them together to make a single video. Users will also be able to choose what to put in between each video recording and background music.
I have more experience with Xamarin/C# than with native Java/Obj-C but the only method I have found online that might accomplish this would be with using native with FFMPEG. Is this the case? Is FFMPEG even going to work for this? Is there a way to use Xamarin to accomplish what I need to do?
Thanks
Have a look at the AVMutableComposition and its related classes.
There's an example here, about halfway down the page: http://www.raywenderlich.com/13418/how-to-play-record-edit-videos-in-ios
It looks like it's covered by Xamarin: http://iosapi.xamarin.com/index.aspx?link=T%3AMonoTouch.AVFoundation.AVMutableComposition
Im wondering if is possible to do this. Anywhere on my view I want to see a list of videos (from my youtube channel or just a playlist created by me), this way the user can click in any of them and using the youtube player API would be visualizated in the bottom of the screen for example.
Is this possible to do and if so, how complicated could be? (im really a beginner in android, not in programming). Ive read about Youtube DATA APi but it seems is used with the youtube app so its not what I want to do.
Thanks a lot.

Adding information just in case someone in the future is interested in doing this (after one year, but better later than never). I uploaded an exemplary app that shows how to do this. It can be found in the following GitHub repository: https://github.com/Rafagf/HealthTube
Have you taken a look at the examples in the documentation? That's the best place to get started. I don't think anyone is going to be able to provide you with more complete code than what's available there.
I want to create an audio recorder I have tried the code I get from http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/audio-capture.html and it works fine; it records and it plays back what I have said. But right now I want to create an audio recorder with a UI like in recognizerIntent which Google has provided so that you can see or monitor that your voice has been recorded(sorry I can't find a right term but I'm hoping you can understand what I am trying to say). Do you know any tutorial or links that can help me?thanks for you help!
I think you mean that you want some feedback that your voice is being picked up? If so, perhaps this project, Audalyzer might be a good place to start looking?
Libraries within the package offer you a dB reading, a one and two-dimensional wave form, and an FFT plot.

There is a simpler WaveformControl you may find easier to understand and modify for your needs.
Anyone heard of this:
VideoCell cell = new VideoCell(titleStr);
If so where can I get the .jar from? And information about it?
Sorry about that, I'm guessing you read this link: Android: Trying to get data from youtube api
I came across that article and thought it had something to do with the YouTube api, but on close examination, it looks like a user defined class.
Your best bet would be to contact the guy who wrote the code and see if he's willing to give you the code for it.
