I need to create some type of quick action menu that appears to the right side of the clicked item (button) whenever the user clicks the button.
Here's an example of what I'm trying to achieve:
When the user clicks button1 I want the "sub quick action menu" to appear like it's shown in the image above.
Is there anyway to do this 'natively' in android?
I have found this plugin but it only allows you to show the menu from the top or bottom of the button.

As tyczj said, you could achieve that with a PopupMenu. The idea is that the popup menu will inflate a custom view with all the elements, having as background a 9 patch image.
Here's a blog post that shows how to do that. Hope it will help you.
You can do the same using Quick Action Menu, for more details you can follow the
"http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/521455/Quick-action-pattern-in-Android-and-simple-impleme"
Link.
In example Items are presented in horizontal manner, whereas you can manage them, like listview as per your requirement.
there is a PopupMenu but there is no arrow or anything pointing to where it came from. Its basically the same thing that comes up when clicking the Overflow actionbar item
Maybe this link can help you ;) But instead of sliding use press button.

I need to open android support library action bar overflow menu (the one shown with three vertical dots) programatically. I know its a silly requirement but one of my client is insisting that they want the menu option to be opened and visible when user tap on a button in an activity.
Any pointer on how to do this will be highly appreciated.
Try using openOptionsMenu in your Activity.
You can do something similar to this implementing your own custom ActionProvider Check this out, in the "Creating a custom action provider" section.
Hope it helps
everyone! I have question for Android guys. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.
So my problem:
I have application with ActionBarCompat and in this action bar I have a lot of different hiden menu items, which appear only if user click on menu button at action bar. Also I have couple menu items at action bar, which always visible.
I need some customization for one of visible menu item. When user click on this menu item (let's say it would be "Add new" menu item), I need to show different menu in this case. And if user click on standart menu item, it should act like usually.
So I really confused. And I have no idea how I can do it. Maybe someone had the same problem or similar. Thank you!
Screenshot for better understanding:
I have an application that has action bar sherlock and SlidingMenu integrated in it, the application has only 3 pages, and they're static pages, so no big deal about them. I have one activity and 3 fragments that i am changing when using the sliding menu.
What i want to achieve is something like this image
I want the user to be able to swipe with his finger on the ActionBar, and when that happens i change the fragment that is being displayed.
Note: i got the gesture recogniser from this awesome answer, but i can't seem to find a way to attach it to the ActionBar.
If i could put a View on the action bar and detect swipe on it, that would be great, but how can i do that ?!?
One last thing, how to implement this "Page Control" in android ?!?
So the answer to my question is that i simply created a custom_actionbar.xml, and then i used this to do the following:
View custom = LayoutInflater.from(this).inflate(R.layout.actionbar_custom, null);
getActionBar().setCustomView(custom);
// and you can use the things in the custom action bar like following !!
Button btnLeft = (Button) custom.findViewById(R.id.btnMenu);
Hope it helps someone :)
I'm new in android programming, I want to create the GUI of my app, when making that the action bar must be customized to looks like :
here i have "three" things:
the button shape in the non-clicking state.
the button shape in the clicking state.
the buttons separator shape.
while searching i found somethings like Android-actionbar and ActionBar-Sherlock and i'm also familiar with how to customize the action bar and how to add buttons imagess and change it upon clicking, NOW, i don't know if there's is possibility to achieve my work using any of these methods, OR IF NOT, what's the best way.
You should take a look at both these links.
PagerTabStrip
ViewPagerIndicator
My need is to add a drop down menu like the one shown in attached image link.

I don't know what to be used, whether it is tabs or menus. My need is when I press the last tab/menu, the sub menu should be shown and I could be able to handle the corresponding actions. Even when I handle those menus, I should be able to show the top tab/ menu without interruption.
It's called as overflow menus. Look this example, you will get an idea.

And nice explanation been given here. http://blog.stylingandroid.com/archives/1249 and for source code.ref here: https://github.com/StylingAndroid/StylingActionBar/Tree/StylingPart2
Use the ActionBar with tab-navigation-mode and if the last tab is clicked you could simply trigger a PopupMenu (even though this seems a little weird and is not what I expect to happen when I click tab).
