I can create file but can't write to it - android

Could someone look at this snippet of code please and let me know what I'm doing wrong? It's a simple function that takes a string as parameter which it uses as a file name, adding ".txt" to the end of it.
The function checks if the file exists, creating it if it doesn't and then writes two lines of text to the file. Everything appears to be working and the file is created successfully on the sd card. However, after everything is done, the file is empty (and has a size of 0 bytes).
I suspect it's something obvious that I'm overlooking.

That one took a while to find out. The javadocs
here brought me on the right track.
It says:
Parameters
name The name of the file to open; can not contain path separators.
mode Operating mode. Use 0 or MODE_PRIVATE for the default operation, MODE_APPEND to append to an existing file, MODE_WORLD_READABLE and MODE_WORLD_WRITEABLE to control permissions.
The file is created, if it does not exist, but it is created in the private app space. You create the file somewhere on the sd card using File.createNewFile() but when you do context.openFileOutput() it creates always a private file in the private App space.
EDIT: Here's my code. I've expanded your method by writing and reading the lines and print what I got to logcat.

Can't create file in the internal storage

i am trying to create a file in the internal storage, i followed the steps in android developers website but when i run the below code there is no file created

Try to get the path for storing files were the app has been installed.The below snippet will give app folder location and add the required permission as well.

If you are handling files that are not intended for other apps to use, you should use a private storage directory on the external storage by calling getExternalFilesDir(). This method also takes a type argument to specify the type of subdirectory (such as DIRECTORY_MOVIES). If you don't need a specific media directory, pass null to receive the root directory of your app's private directory.
Probably, this would be the best practice.

In this method, you have to pass your data string as a first parameter and file name which you want to create as second parameter.

In this statement:
File gpxfile = new File(file, sFileName);
file should be directory (you use .txt file here).
Also, read this. You can store you file in /data/data/<your.package.name>/ dir (trying to use /data/root/ will cause Permission denied error).

Overwriting data using files

i created a file and when i run the program, the data is been written in to the file but when i run the program again the new data over write on old data.
i need once the program is running and gathers data, these data are writable into the file in cascade next each other without overwriting on previous data in file.
this code running successful but when i run the program again the over writing happens which i don need that, i need to save previous data in side the file and write the new data next it and soon.

Instead of using OutputStreamWriter use Filewriter FileWriter fileWritter = new FileWriter(file,true); when u pass true it appends the contents.try this

Writing to text file in "APPEND mode" in emulator-mode,

In my Android app I should store the data from user in simple text-file, that I created in the raw directory. After this, I'm trying to write file in APPEND MODE by using simple code from the Google's examples:

openFileOutput will only allow you to open a private file associated with this Context's application package for writing. I'm not sure where the file you're trying to write to is located. I mean full path. You can use the code below to write to a file located anywhere (as long as you have perms). The example is using the external storage, but you should be able to modify it to write anywhere:

In the example you have given, try catching 'I0Exception`, I have a feeling you do not have permission where you are trying to write.
