Horizontal manager alignment of its child view? - android

How can I align a child view in the horizontal LinearLayout?
I have two textviews (width height is wrap_content) in the horizontal manager. How I can align one to right and the other one to the left?

Without knowing what you mean by "horizontal manager" it's really hard to answer your question. Do you mean a horizontal layout? Is this what you're looking for?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"/>
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true" />
</RelativeLayout>

Center ListView horizontally

As easy as it seems to be, as stubbornly this ListView won't center itself (or it's content within - doesn't matter to me).
This is activity layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
tools:context="com.drobiazko.den.mobineon.MainActivity"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:gravity="center_horizontal"
android:background="#drawable/bg">
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/clock_container"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<!--<RelativeLayout android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#android:color/holo_blue_dark">-->
<com.drobiazko.den.mobineon.ListViewRowsHeight
android:id="#+id/listview"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:overScrollMode="never"
android:scrollbars="none"
android:divider="#null"
android:listSelector="#android:color/transparent"
android:persistentDrawingCache="scrolling|animation"
android:background="#android:color/holo_green_dark" />
<!--</RelativeLayout>-->
</LinearLayout>
This is ListView's item layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<ImageView android:id="#+id/btn_icon"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
style="#style/custom_btn_icon" />
<TextView android:id="#+id/btn_text"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
style="#style/custom_btn_name" />
<TextView android:id="#+id/btn_count"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
style="#style/custom_btn_count" />
</RelativeLayout>
I've tried everything (including simplifying layout to max), but it still won't go.
Funny that the first relative layout clock_container - centers like a charm, due to parent LinearLayout's android:gravity="center_horizontal". Why won't ListView?
Added later:
Inspired by FOliveira's answer, I've done some investigation and found that:
everything works fine, parent LinearLayout has android:gravity="center_horizontal" and centers his children respectfully. The reason for ListView's children are left-aligned is that ListView takes all possible width despite his android:layout_width="wrap_content" attribute.
Anyone knows why is that?
First of all , i would remove the first linear layout and stay only with the relative layout as the parent.
After having the relative layout as the main parent , set the CENTER_IN_PARENT attribute to true.
The mistake you are making is that you are setting the gravity of Linear Layout child to center horizontal, which is correct, but the only children being affected by this option is the Relative layout itself.

On an Android app layout how would I position a view so that it always appears half the distance below the middle?

I'm using a Relative layout as the root or parent container and I have two buttons to place inside this Layout. The buttons need to be placed one on top of the other. The problem is that I want to position these buttons so that they appear below the center of the view but not directly below. That is within the bottom half of the view I want the buttons to appear halfway along that half portion. I tried adding a the buttons as children of a RelativeLayout (that was centered in the middle) inside the parent RelativeLayout and that sort of achieves what I'm trying to but then the Eclipse complains with a warning stating that one set of Relative Layout tags is useless and that I should consider getting rid of it.
Then I tried giving a one of the buttons a top margin with respect to its parent and then placing the other button under the this button with the top margin. This seems to work until I try it out in other virtual devices and I find out that depending on the screen sizes and dimensions it might or might not appear where I want it to (especially not the case with tablet devices).
Ok, so then I'm not sure how to achieve what I want the right way (without warnings or errors). Here's my current code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="#drawable/default_real" >
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_marginTop="300sp"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_email_button" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_web_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_below="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_web_button" />
</RelativeLayout>
How about using two layouts and the android:layout_weight attribute
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="#drawable/default_real"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"/ >
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1" >
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_email_button" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_web_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_web_button" />
</RelativeLayout>
</LinearLayout>

ScrollView don't scroll?

I've a ScrollView / RelativeLayout / FrameLayout and I inside put programmaticaly some widgets.
Here is the gui xml :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:background="#drawable/fond_app">
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/titreAppli"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="My Big Application"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textColor="#9b9b71"
android:textSize="15dp"
/>
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/out"
android:layout_below="#id/titreAppli"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
In the FrameLayout, I put programaticaly another RelativeLayout, and other widgets inside.
With some widgets (text, image, buttons), I can't scroll. With other (a linearlist with text), I can scroll.
Why ? Is there a solution ?
Thanks.
First remove frame layout. You should use some other layout like relative instead of framelayout. Becasue Framelayout is not expanding and there fore scroll view is not working. If you use linear or relative then they will expand and you will be able to scroll.
Have you tried without the android:fillViewport="true" ?

How to align text in android

I want to align my text at the bottom left in android.
If you want to align the text in your TextView to the bottom left, use android:gravity="bottom|left". If you want to align the TextView to the bottom left of it's container, use android:layout_gravity="bottom|left".
I suspect that you're mis-communicating your true intentions, here, though. You want to align some text to the bottom left of what? The screen? The text's container?
Please try to be more specific with your question.
Bottom left of the screen:
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:gravity="bottom|left"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<TextView android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="text"/>
</FrameLayout>
I would recommend a Relative layout.
Your view would look like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/label"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Text aligned bottom left"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
Must be written inside your TextView

Why button is not centered vertically in LinearLayout?

I have a LinearLayout, which only contains one button. I want this button to be centered vertically and aligned to the right. I tried many ways, but I couldn't make this button centered vertically. It is always aligned to the top. I also tried to put a button in RelativeLayout, the button can not be centered vertically either.
The XML is as below. Is there anything wrong with this layout? Thanks.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#E8E3E4">
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="More"
android:layout_gravity="right" />
</LinearLayout>
Changing android:layout_gravity="right" to android:layout_gravity="right|center_vertical" didn't resolve the problem in my question.
You say in words that you want this to be centered vertically, but you have not said in XML that you want this to be centered vertically. You will need to adjust your android:layout_gravity attribute to specify both right and center_vertical.
However, I would recommend you go back to RelativeLayout. Use android:layout_centerVertical="true" and android:layout_alignParentRight="true" to make the button be centered vertically and right-aligned.
Also, bear in mind that your current LinearLayout has android:layout_height="wrap_content", which means there is nothing to be centered inside. You need the container to have more space than its contents (e.g., fill_parent) if you want centering to have any meaning.
This code will put the button in vertical center and on the right screen
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:gravity="center_vertical">
<Button
android:id="#+id/btnClick"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="right"
android:text="Click Me" />
</LinearLayout>
Try adding android:gravity="center" to your LinearLayout. I remember having read somewhere that that might do the trick.
