I am developing an android app (prediction app) which requires to store
(a) prediction result and
(b) actual user result.
Based on this data, I want users to show actual predicted/actual result values to user.
So this requires very small amount of data to be stored and and shared via a common database in cloud.
Currently I was going through Google Cloud Platform: Mobile Backend Starter, which i thought is a very nice option. But looking into the sample, it seems it requires minimum API level of 15. But I want to support my app from API level 8 and above, i.e. android 2.2 Can it be used for API level 8 and above?
Can MongoDB work with android ? This link says, it is not available for Android. is it so?
I tested parse.com a few times and it works for smaller projects for free.

Does anyone know what alternatives there are (preferably free/open source) to google maps or iOS maps?
What I need to do is make a native app for both Android and iOS with turn based navigation. Although Google map and iOS maps are very good at this, I need the GPS to be handled in the app. So te application can't rely on closing the current app, and then opening the phones default maps applications.
Having looked into Android, it seems I can get Google maps for Business that can possibly do this, but the license is very expensive.
Is there an alternative that I can use to run GPS maps inside my own app? The app will have to allow button clicks to mark points on a map as the user is navigating hence I can't switch between the app and the devices native maps. The switching process is too long to be accurate.
Have looked at Garmin but their solution seems to work on Windows phones only.
I have used Mapquest maps for android apps before, I think they have a pretty good API and great support!

I am developing a Cross Platform (Android & iOS) Mobile App which would be compiled and deployed natively. (APK for Android and IPA for iOS). So this App would execute on WebView on Mobile Devices.
I am using DevExtreme (product of DevExpress) to develop the Mobile App. So basically HTML5. CSS3 and JavaScript is used for Coding the App. Now, I require a Offline Relational Database to store data related to my App.
I know that the below mentioned are available for the above mentioned use case, but I do have problem with each of them and that I have mentioned below:
WebSQL/SQLite: Deprecated and No Longer supported.
IndexedDB: Do not support iOS Safari and not useful for me.
Sequel Sphere: I think this is just Browser related and would not run on WebView. (Confused)
I surfed a lot and I am not able to arrive at a proper decision. Can anybody help/ provide me with a proper solution that would suit my above mentioned requirement.
I need a Offline Relational Database that would run on Android and iOS Devices.

I'm making my first backend for an app that should work for android and iphone. It should have features similar to instagram with some photos and text.
Currently I'm looking at doing it with google App engine.
For a backend like this, with users, posts, comments etc. Should I use the datastore option or SQL?
I know JAVA so using google app engine should be fairly simple. But is it simple to make it work with iOS too?
I'm open for suggestions if you think there are better places to do backends like something with node.js or so. It should be easy to deply, quick and expandable.
What would be your suggestions?
parse.com is the answer to all your problems
At work we use Drupal as a backend.
It's an easy to use CMS, It has secure RESTful connection for doing content management things. It has an iOS SDK https://github.com/workhabitinc/drupal-ios-sdk. It supports commenting, user registration, user permissions, posts out of the box.

I am working on a project both on Android and IOS.
Basicly, user will take photos of an object, place, logo, painting, etc. Store it in the app database. Then when the user takes the photo of the same object again the app will be able to match and confirm that these images are from the same or similiar source.
I checked a lot of APIs, I would rather free software but one time affordable payment will also work. Most of the APIs want to get paid per image count in database or per times the app tried to match images. Plus most of them work with a cloud server where the images are matched in a huge database.
I do not want these, I want a simple matching algorithm that can work offline on mobile devices.
Any help will be appreciated.
I recommend you take a look at OpenCV. A lot of those services you mention are built on top of this or are similar. Since you only want offline mode this should work really well for you, although it will take more work on your end. You might want to start with the object detection tutorial, but there are tons of resources on OpenCV

Just like facebook SDK, is there any SDK available to integrate vimeo videos in android application?
The API is open to any language as it answers to HTTP calls.
http://developer.vimeo.com/apis/simple
if you need to show private videos as well, you need to use the Advanced API and this is a little bit more complicate as it's more secure. The Advanced API uses OAuth 1.0 for authentication.
http://developer.vimeo.com/apis/advanced
What you probably want to know is if there's an Android Wrapper of the Vimeo API witch I know none, but as said, it's simple calls that sends you JSON or XML objects and if using the Advanced API, there are plenty of libraries to handle the authentication.
