and i'm setting an onItemClickedListener:
private void setGridView()
{
//create a new event list
picoEventsList = new ArrayList<PicoEvent>();
//create new gridview arrayadapter
arrayAdapter = new EventDetailsArrayAdapter(getActivity(), picoEventsList);
//set grid's view empty view
View emptyView = LayoutInflater.from(getActivity()).inflate(R.layout.fragment_events_empty_view, null);
gridView.setEmptyView(emptyView);
gridView.setOnItemClickListener(this);
gridView.setAdapter(arrayAdapter);
}
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) {
//get clicked event
PicoEvent event = arrayAdapter.getItem(arg2);
//create new event details fragment
EventDetailsFragment eventDetailsFragment = new EventDetailsFragment();
//add the event to fragment's arguments
eventDetailsFragment.setArguments(PicoEventCreator.createBundle(event));
//show the event details fragment
getMainActivity().showFragment(null, eventDetailsFragment, true, true);
}
but the onItemClick() method doesn't get fired..
I've checked and non of my views in my layout has clickable="true" setted...
Any ideas ?

Hey guyz finally got a solution...
what we were doing is directly accessing the Layout inside the GridView, so the onItemClickListener finds it confusing to access the item.
So the solution is to apply the onClickListener inside the Adapter (i.e. normally ArrayAdapter)
so what i m trying to say is:
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
//Here row is a view and we can set OnClickListener on this
final View row;
ViewHolder holder = null;
if (convertView == null) {
LayoutInflater inflater = ((Activity) context).getLayoutInflater();
//Here we inflate the layout to view (linear in my case)
row = inflater.inflate(layoutResourceId, parent, false);
holder = new ViewHolder();
holder.imageTitle = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.text);
holder.image = (ImageView) row.findViewById(R.id.image);
row.setTag(holder);
} else {
row = convertView;
holder = (ViewHolder) row.getTag();
}
ImageItem item = data.get(position);
holder.imageTitle.setText(item.getTitle());
holder.image.setImageBitmap(item.getImage());
//Now get the id or whatever needed
row.setId(position);
// Now set the onClickListener
row.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Toast.makeText(context, "Clicked" + row.getId() + "!!",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
});
return row;
}

Ok i found what the problem was
Apparently GridView and HorzonitalScrollView are not such good friends...
probably because the HorzonitalScrollView has onClick funcionality..
The solution i found is to put:
android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants"
in my ArrayAdapter root view.

Expandable List view with recycler list view as child

As shown in the image, I am able to render the view. But the onChildClick event of Expandable view is not getting triggered.
Also the touch event in the adapter is not responding. My layout details are mentioned below.
The full source code for this can be found in here.
main_activity.xml
<ExpandableListView
android:id="#+id/list_brands"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:divider="#null"
android:groupIndicator="#null"
android:dividerHeight="5dp" />

**My Solution : **
Touch events are directly passed to the UI Elements of the View holder in the Recycler List view. But to give the touch event to the whole layout I have added the transparent button on top of child_item layout and added a click listener. Following is the updated child_item.xml
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<FrameLayout
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="match_parent" >
<Button
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/dummy_click"
android:background="#android:color/transparent"/>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_marginLeft="5dp"
android:layout_marginRight="5dp"
android:padding="10dp"
android:background="#color/colorGrey"
>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/img_subcategory"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:src="#mipmap/ic_launcher"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:layout_width="180dp"
android:layout_height="90dp"
android:scaleType="fitXY"/>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Sub Category"
android:textColor="#color/colorWhite"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="5dp"
android:gravity="center"
android:id="#+id/txt_subcategory"
android:textSize="#dimen/app_text_title"/>
</LinearLayout>
</FrameLayout>
</LinearLayout>
Theory
ExpandableListView, child click sample:
for click on child, you can handle this way.
getExpandableListView().setOnChildClickListener(new OnChildClickListener() {
public boolean onChildClick(ExpandableListView parent, View v,
int groupPosition, int childPosition, long id) {
// your code...
}
});
Expandable RecyclerView, useful library and easy item click support:
This blog post by Hugo shows an alternative way without listeners:
http://www.littlerobots.nl/blog/Handle-Android-RecyclerView-Clicks/
It comes down to adding these lines:
ItemClickSupport.addTo(mRecyclerView).setOnItemClickListener(new ItemClickSupport.OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClicked(RecyclerView recyclerView, int position, View v) {
// do it
}
});
When using this class:
public class ItemClickSupport {...}
And this value in ids.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>
<item name="item_click_support" type="id" />
</resources>
Why doesn't RecyclerView have onItemClickListener()? And how RecyclerView is different from Listview?
Since the introduction of ListView, onItemClickListener has been
problematic. The moment you have a click listener for any of the
internal elements the callback would not be triggered, but it wasn't
notified or well documented (if at all) so there was a lot of
confusion and SO questions about it.
OnItemClickListener doesn't work with ListView item containing button
Just add this line into the item views instead of listView itself
android:focusable="false"
Check more detail about this from: Android custom ListView unable to click on items
Practice
#Override
public View getChildView(int groupPosition, int childPosition, boolean isLastChild, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
ChildHolder childHolder = null;
if (convertView == null) {
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
convertView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.item_group_child, parent, false);
childHolder = new ChildHolder();
// Fix listview onclicklistener issue: inner views can not be focusable
childHolder.YOUR_INNER_BUTTON = (YOUR_BUTTON_TYPE) convertView.findViewById(R.id.YOUR_BUTTON_ID);
childHolder.YOUR_INNER_BUTTON.setFocusable(false);
convertView.setTag(childHolder);
}
else {
childHolder = (ChildHolder) convertView.getTag();
}
childHolder.horizontalListView = (RecyclerView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.mobiles);
LinearLayoutManager layoutManager = new LinearLayoutManager(context, LinearLayoutManager.HORIZONTAL, false);
childHolder.horizontalListView.setLayoutManager(layoutManager);
MobileAdapter horizontalListAdapter = new MobileAdapter(context, brands.get(groupPosition).mobiles);
childHolder.horizontalListView.setAdapter(horizontalListAdapter);
return convertView;
}
Added two lines to your code based on my legacy code:
// Creates a ViewHolder and store references to the children views (collapsed)
holder = new ViewHolderChildren();
holder.textLine = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.usersTextLine);
holder.subtextLine = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.usersSubtextLine);
holder.iconLine = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.usersIconLine);
holder.buttonLine = (ImageButton) convertView.findViewById(R.id.usersButtonLine);
holder.infoLine = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.usersInfoLine);
holder.infoLine.setVisibility(TextView.GONE);
holder.userprofileButton = (ImageButton) convertView.findViewById(R.id.usersUserprofileBtn);
holder.buttonLine.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
// if gone, set visible and arrow up image
if (holder.infoLine.getVisibility() == TextView.GONE) {
holder.infoLine.setVisibility(TextView.VISIBLE);
holder.buttonLine.setImageLevel(1);
}
// if visible, set gone and arrow down image
else {
holder.infoLine.setVisibility(TextView.GONE);
holder.buttonLine.setImageLevel(0);
}
}
});
//fixed listview onclicklistener bug: inner views can not be focusable
holder.buttonLine.setFocusable(false);
convertView.setTag(holder);

ListView OnItemClickListener is not listening

I checked all the previous questions regarding this issue , but none of them are helpfull to me .
My listview is not responding , i tried changing this
list.setOnItemClickListener(new ContactsListItemClickListener(this));
to
list.setOnItemClickListener(this);
by making my PrioritiseContacts activity just imeplement OnItemClickListener , but then too its not working .
The activity is successfully running , but i am unable to listen for listclick events.
How to correct this?
Here is my class :
public class PrioritiseContacts extends Activity implements OnClickListener {
private ListView list;
// list of contacts with name
private List<Contacts> contactsList;
private Controller controll;
private ContactListAdapters adapter;
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.select_contacts);
controll = new Controller();
contactsList = controll.fetchContacts(this);
// call the adapter to set the list view layout
adapter = new ContactListAdapters(contactsList, this);
list = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.lv_contacts);
// set the adapter to list
list.setAdapter(adapter);
list.setOnItemClickListener(new ContactsListItemClickListener(this));
// inflate the list of contact
}
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
Toast.makeText(this, "clicked", 1000).show();
}
class ContactsListItemClickListener implements OnItemClickListener {
private Context c;
public ContactsListItemClickListener(
PrioritiseContacts prioritiseContacts) {
this.c = prioritiseContacts;
}
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position,
long id) {
Toast.makeText(c, "Clicked", 1500).show();
System.out.print("clicked");
}
}
}
My select_contacts xml :
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#000000"

android:clickable="true"
android:focusable="true"
android:divider="#android:color/transparent"
android:dividerHeight="10.0sp"
android:scrollbars="none" >
</ListView>
</LinearLayout>
And this is my adapter's getview() :
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View view = convertView;
// layout infklater to inflate the post list view
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context
.getSystemService(Activity.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);

TextView number = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.tv_number);
// title.setTypeface(custom_font);
number.setText(c.getPhone());
ImageView contact_image = (ImageView) view.findViewById(R.id.iv_single_contact);
// hut.setTypeface(custom_font);
if(c.getContactImage() != null)
contact_image.setImageBitmap(c.getContactImage());
else
contact_image.setImageDrawable(view.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_contact_picture_2));
return view;
}

If any row item of list contains focusable or clickable view then OnItemClickListener won't work such as for checkbox or button etc in the row item.There are two solution:
1. row item must be having param like android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants"
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:baselineAligned="false"
android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants"
android:gravity="center_vertical" >
// your other widgets here
</LinearLayout>
2. Set given two attributes to false
like
android:focusable="false"
android:focusableInTouchMode="false"
For example if there is any checkbox or button or image in the row item then
<CheckBox
android:id="#+id/fav_check_box"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:focusable="false" />

headerView = ((LayoutInflater) this.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE)).inflate(R.layout.jpos_ror_header, null, false);
footerView = ((LayoutInflater) this.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE)).inflate(R.layout.jpos_ror_footer, null, false);
TextView tin=(TextView)headerView.findViewById(R.id.textViewTinValue);
TextView textViewNameOfPayor=(TextView)headerView.findViewById(R.id.textViewNameOfPayor);
TextView textViewLocation=(TextView)headerView.findViewById(R.id.textViewLocation);
Here is my code in getting object id's from my header and footer. how can i get the view of my list view data adapter without onClick event. i want to do some layout manipulation in viewing of my layout.

in this adapter i want to manipulate the view of linearlayouts by having LinearLAyout.setVisibility(LinearLayout.GONE or VISIBLE);
Here i think i have some lead from my problem from the answer of himanshu. here is my listview special adapter im having problem how can get the view and viewGroup implementation to my special adapter here is my SpecialAdapter..
public class SpecialAdapter extends SimpleAdapter {
public static TextView tv;
private int[] colors = new int[] { 0xffcccccc , 0xffffffff };
private int[] colors2 = new int[] { 0xffffffff , 0xff000000 };
// Context context;
public SpecialAdapter(Context context, List<HashMap<String, String>> items, int resource, String[] from, int[] to) {
super(context, items, resource, from, to);
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View view = super.getView(position, convertView, parent);
int colorPos = position % colors.length;
view.setBackgroundColor(colors[colorPos]);
//TextView textView = (TextView)view.findViewById(R.id.textViewModAmountCheck);
//textView.setText("AlvinTest");
return view;
}
Could anyoune tell me i am doing right when im implementing mg getView2.
public View getView2(Context context, int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
LayoutInflater layoutInflater = LayoutInflater.from(context);//get your layout inflator;
//LayoutInflater inf = LayoutInflater.from(getContext());
if (convertView == null) {
convertView = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.listview_layout, null);
}
LinearLayout yyy = (LinearLayout) convertView.findViewById(R.id.linearCheckDate);
yyy.setVisibility(View.GONE);
return convertView;
}
public boolean setViewValue(View view, Cursor cursor, int columnIndex){
int getIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex("Name");
String empname = cursor.getString(getIndex);
tv = (TextView) view;
tv.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
tv.setText(empname);
if(empname.equals("Any String"))
{
tv.setTextColor(Color.rgb(58, 58, 224));
return true;
}
return false;
}
}
Here's my code when im calling the getView2 from my listAdapter
LayoutInflater inf = LayoutInflater.from(this);
View v = inf.inflate(R.layout.listview_layout, null);
//add magic here bu i don't know how can i get the view of these View and ViewGroup
View itemConvertView = inf.inflate(R.layout.listview_layout, null);
ViewGroup listParent =null; //this.getParent();//(ViewGroup)SelectorView.this.getParent();// null;
adapterListView.getView2(this,0, itemConvertView, listParent);
try this:
Hide your Layout:
YourLayout.setVisibility(View.GONE);
Visible your Layout :
YourLayout.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
If i understood your problem correctly, you want to get the first element of the ListView pro grammatically and change its state (Visibility).
You can get the element in ListView by calling getChildAt(int index) method
e.g
LinearLayout yourFirstView = (LinearLayout) listview.getChildAt(0);
Accessing child of the element that reside in first row of the listview.
ViewType view = (ViewType)yourFirstView.findViewById(R.id.elementId);
setting the visiblity
yourFirstView.setVisiblity(View.Gone); // or View.VISIBLE
What I understand from your question is that there is some view in your ListView item which you want to show only if needed. You can do this in the getView method of your adapter where you inflate the custom layout of list item. Something like below
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
LayoutInflater layoutInflater = get your layout inflator;
if (convertView == null) {
convertView = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.XXXX, null);
}
LinearLayout yyy = (LinearLayout) convertView.findViewById(R.id.member_name_text_view);
yyy.setVisibility(View.Gone)
return convertView;
}

How to set custom list view item's height...?

I have a custom list view which contains two text views and on button.
I have customized the button style.
In the list view each row is not fit to show my button properly.
I want to change the list item's height.
How can i do that..?
This is my list view.
<ListView android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:scrollbars="none" android:footerDividersEnabled="false"
android:minHeight="50dp"
android:listSelector="#00000000" android:dividerHeight="0px"
android:divider="#00000000" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_marginLeft="5dp" android:layout_marginTop="5dp"
android:layout_marginRight="5dp" android:id="#+id/list_view"
android:cacheColorHint="#00000000" android:background="#00000000" />
my custom view xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<TextView android:layout_width="150dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textColor="#808080" android:text="Subtitle 2" android:id="#+id/text1"
android:layout_marginLeft="5dp"
android:singleLine="true"/>
<TextView android:layout_width="60dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textColor="#808080" android:text="$ 00.00" android:id="#+id/text2"
android:singleLine="true"/>
<Button android:layout_width="80dp" android:layout_height="25dp"
android:background="#drawable/type10_subbg" android:text="Add"
android:textSize="20dp" android:textStyle="bold" android:textColor="#153E7E"
android:id="#+id/add" />
</LinearLayout>
Here is my getView.
#SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
ViewHolder holder;
pos = position;
holder = new ViewHolder();
convertView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.type10_sub, null);
holder.text1 = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.text1);
holder.text2 = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.text2);
holder.add = (Button) convertView.findViewById(R.id.add);
holder.add.setTag(String.valueOf(position));
holder.add.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
Button b = (Button)v;
int tag = Integer.valueOf((String)b.getTag());
System.out.println("Added at "+tag);
System.out.println("Data = "+((HashMap<String,Object>)list.get(tag)).get("text1").toString());
System.out.println("Price = "+((HashMap<String,Object>)list.get(tag)).get("text2").toString()); }
}); holder.text1.setText(((HashMap<String,Object>)list.get(position)).get("text1").toString());
holder.text2.setText(((HashMap<String,Object>)list.get(position)).get("text2").toString());
convertView.setTag(holder);
return convertView;
}
Thanks in advance....!
convertedview.setlayoutparams(new Listview.setlayoutparams(width, height));
First put LinearLayout instead of ListView
and then edit that to ListView otherwise it will not work. This is the trick.
set minHeight in R.layout.type10_sub elements
Its very easy to hardcode in a new height for the custom view simply specify the layout_height for the highest level item, in this case the LinearLayout. Below I've shown how to set it to 100dp
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="100dp">
....
</LinearLayout>
In linear layout give android:layout_height="100dp" instead of wrap_content
use:
if(convertView == null){
convertView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.type10_sub, parent);
}
