I'm developing a Phonegap application (for Android). When I plug my Xperia Z1 to my PC (which runs Ubuntu 13) it shows only install disk (some exe'cs are there) and don't show on devices list (I have also turned on debugging usb feature etc.) - I think this can be caused by lack of drivers for this phone (and I can't find anywhere drivers for ubuntu for Sony Xperia Z1).
In addition Eclipse shows only "????" as a device name and cannot run my app with that position chosen. Please help.
UPDATE:
I've found this article: https://askubuntu.com/questions/39893/how-to-access-the-sd-card-through-my-sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-phone but it doesn't work for me.

Yes, you are right. The OS doesn't recognize the phone, can't communicate with him via USB port.
I would install a Virtual machine on Linux and a windows on it, until I could find a workaround or a driver released.
You can build and run to mobile over wifi, but I'm afraid you need the driver first to setup see here

I have a Samsung Galaxy On8 (SM-J710FN) and I want test my applications created in Android Studio. I want to use my phone for this purpose. If I try to do it directly my phone is not shown. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit.
Follow the link below and then enable USB debugging from the options.
If you already did it . then the issue can be different.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/skp/faq/1053579
You have to install the manufacturer drivers for your phone.
After that, when you plug it and the computer detects it, the phone should show a screen asking you to allow USB debugging for that particular computer, you should tap 'Ok'.
e: Samsung drivers
I can't run my android programs on my device, I followed all the steps in that link : No compatible targets were found... real device, eclipse
but I still couldn't find my device
I have a Samsung Galaxy S+ GT-I9001
Android version : 2.3.5
Target/min/max versions set on Eclipse 2.3.3(Ginger Bread)
I don't want to use a virtual device.
Help !!
Its likely one of two things.
Your debug mode isnt enabled on your phone, so eclipse will not recognise it.
Or your PC doesnt have the USB driver installed, so your PC does not recognise it.
Go to Settings -> Developer -> USB Debugging and enable it. (check its enabled).
Else, download the USB Drivers for your device.
I think these links are correct:
HTC
SAMSUNG
Else google your phone, and android USB Driver.
You might have problems with your USB drivers. Try to Install Samsung Kies from their website, USB drivers should be installed then.
USB debugging is enabled,my mac recognizes that the phone is connected but eclipse doesn't list it as a device and i can't test my application. I am using a macbook air with OSX and Eclipse does not recognize my device? I am aware some people have this problem with mac but i cannot find a solution.
I had installed the "google-usb-driver" package(present in the extras subsection of SDK manager) and also had debugging enabled on my Samsung S3. Yet eclipse/adb was not able to recognize the device.
To solve this problem on windows, I installed kies. I can now see a new device called "samsung android phone" in the list of devices(in device manager).
Windows(7/2008) by default does not have the driver and this can be got from a kies setup. Now my device manager is showing 2 devices:
Portable devices > GT-I93XX (already had this before kies was installed)
Samsung Android Phone > Samsung Android ADB Interface. (this was new after kies installation)
Sometimes the USB cable can be at fault, I have found the cable from the Kindle to be more reliable then those supplied by Samsung or Motorola (for reasons unknown to me!).
You'll probably have to install some Samsung driver software. On windows at least the adb driver comes bundled with their kies desktop software. I'd start by finding mac version of that and installing it.
Also "Samsung Galaxy S" is not a specific device. This is a marketing name that has been applied to half a dozen or more devices total worldwide. It may be helpful in some cases (perhaps it doesn't matter here, but it could) to specify which specific piece of hardware you are working with.
Do any other brand devices work correctly?
My environment is: windows xp sp3, eclipse, all available software installed using SDK Manager.
Following Android developer site's guide, I could write and run hello world app on Android 2.3 emulator. Then I wanted to see if I could run my app on a real device - vodafone 845 (huawei U8120?) in my case. Here I stuck for two days now trying to install windows usb driver for my device. When I connect my device through usb with Debug setting On, windows keeps to ackowledge it as usb mass storage. On Device Manager, I tried Update Driver, selected C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\google-usb_driver\android_winusb.inf file. it complained like:
"The specified location does not contain information about your hardware"
It's probably because of missing manufacturer/product information (VID_12D1&PID_1031) in inf file, right?
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html site lists supported devices and says that any additional devices will require Windows drivers provided by the hardware manufacturer but so far I couldn't any information.
I guess many developers are facing this issue with their own devices that is not supported by Android SDK and I wonder how they overcome this issue - especially for vodafone 845 device.
Thanks in advance
Bob
This thread states that the USB drivers are included on the phone. Once the phone is connected as a USB mass storage device, browse the contents and look for the driver installer. If you have deleted it or are using a custom ROM you may need to search for the drivers on google.
PS This isn't really a hardware support site.
Yes this works like charm. Everything is located on the sd card. There are some weird things though:
- You can't to choose, if you want to mount the your phone as storage, on other phones you can.
- For us the install did not work at first, only the second time.
Unlike some others, my Android SDK setup went smoothly on my new Windows 7 Pro 64 bit machine. However, I am currently hung up on installing the android usb drivers. What is the current state of this issue? There has been some discussion of this problem on the web but no consensus is immediately apparent.
The Android USB driver page for Windows is very misleading, IMHO. It doesn't mention that it doesn't work for all Android devices. It turns out that for certain devices you need to go to the manufacturer's website for the USB drivers, NOT use the generic Android USB driver.
For example, in my case the generic Android USB driver would not work for my Sony Ericsson X10a. I forget the exact error message, but the Windows Device Manager would not recognize the driver software as being valid for the device. But after I downloaded the X10a USB driver from the Sony Ericsson developer website, the Windows Device Manager was happy with it. Then I was able to install my Android development apps on the device and debug via Eclipse/DDMS.
BTW, I too am using 64-bit Windows 7 (which is not the real source of the problem).
I had the same problem - with OEM drives and Android SDK drivers too. Finally what helped me was:
Device Manager - Update Drives Software - Browse my computer for driver software - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer - Have Disk - Browse for file android_winusb.inf (in sdk folder) - Android ADB
Windows was not able to find drives in folder automatically :-/
I hope it helps to someone...
I tried all this solutions but nothing worked. Finally i found that i need to connect my device as camera and not as media device in phone under "USB PC Connection" in settings and i got it worked. But really it is a long struggle... :) For more details, see this link..

I hope this will help someone with the same problem.
Tried this driver from Intel (after checking all kind of drivers (asus, google, samsung kies etc).
https://software.intel.com/en-us/android/articles/intel-usb-driver-for-android-devices
and it worked like a charm (after unplugging and replugging the usb from my Nexus 7 and enabling MTP)
The Android Drivers Installation has download package and installation instruction.
If you have installed the driver and it doesn't load... you can try this :
In windows 7,
Go to Computer Management , then Device Manager
Locate your device...
Right-click, and Uninstall... (make sure your device is unplugged)
Then Reinstall it again. (run the driver setup)
This works for me.

Try the above link. its an Universal Android USB Driver. Worked on windows 7!
Long story short: downloaded DROID and HTC Hero USB drivers, installed them. Now its all good.
Softpedia's Galaxy S USB Driver worked on win7 x64 for me. Galaxy S Phones. Vibrant / Captivate
just install the oem android driver. pretty simple to do. unless if they dont have one you have to do it manually.
