I'm trying to dynamically add tables, rows, images, and textviews to a view depending upon the content of a text file on a server. All is going well save for the fact that the text is only filling up half the page.
Here's my code:
private void setMainView(String section, String selection){
mTableView = (TableLayout) findViewById(R.id.tableLayout1);
mTableView.removeAllViews();
ArrayList<String> info = getInfoArray(section, selection);
String[] instructions = info.get(0).split("\\|");
String[] values = info.get(1).split("\\|");
for(int i=1; i < instructions.length; i++){
if (instructions[i].equals("#image")){
TableRow newRow = new TableRow(this);
ImageView newImage = new ImageView(this);
LayoutParams params = (LayoutParams) newImage.getLayoutParams();
params.width = 120;
params.height = 120;
// existing height is ok as is, no need to edit it
newImage.setLayoutParams(params);
newRow.addView(newImage);
mTableView.addView(newRow);
}else{
TableRow newRow = new TableRow(this);
TextView newText = new TextView(this);
newText.setText(instructions[i] + ": " + values[i]);
newText.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
newRow.addView(newText);
mTableView.addView(newRow);
}
}
TableRow newRow = new TableRow(this);
newRow.setLayoutParams(new TableLayout.LayoutParams(
TableLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,
TableLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, 1.0f));
TextView newText = new TextView(this);
newText.setText(info.get(2));
newText.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
newText.setSingleLine(false);
newText.setWidth(LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT);
newText.setMaxLines(100);
newRow.addView(newText);
mTableView.setPadding(70, 20, 70, 0);
mTableView.addView(newRow);
}
Here's my xml:
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/drawer_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/content_frame"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
<TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/tableLayout1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
</TableLayout>
<ListView
android:id="#+id/left_drawer"
android:layout_width="240dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="start"
android:choiceMode="singleChoice"
android:divider="#android:color/transparent"
android:dividerHeight="0dp"
android:background="#111"/>
</android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout>
And here's what I get:
What I want it to do is to fill the screen almost to end with the latin filler text instead of it only filling up half the screen. Where did I go wrong?
Here is your bug:
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/content_frame"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" /> <------------ HERE!!!!!
You want the following textview to be INSIDE of the FrameLayout! Like this:
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/content_frame"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<TableLayout
android:id="#+id/tableLayout1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
</FrameLayout>
Try this:
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/content_frame"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/scrollView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/scroll_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" />
</ScrollView>
</FrameLayout>
You will add the TextViews to scroll_layout.
you can try with this....
TableLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,
TableLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT

This is the table header:
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:scrollbars="vertical"
android:id="#+id/roster_bat_stats_table_header_adv1"
android:scrollbarStyle="outsideInset"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:layout_gravity="top">
<TableLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:divider="#drawable/divider_stand_table_list"
android:showDividers="middle"
android:isScrollContainer="true"
android:stretchColumns="9"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<TableRow android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:id="#id/header_table_row"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_weight="1">
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="BAT"
android:background="#drawable/mybutton"
android:textAlignment="center"
android:textColor="#android:color/white"
android:layout_weight="0.0652"
android:textSize="18sp" />
etc...
Here is the actual table without header:
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/nestedScrollBatStatsAdv1"
android:scrollbars="vertical"
android:scrollbarStyle="outsideInset"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:layout_gravity="top">
<TableLayout
android:id="#+id/rosterBatStatsTableAdv1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:visibility="gone"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:divider="#drawable/divider_stand_table_list"
android:showDividers="middle"
android:isScrollContainer="true"
android:stretchColumns="9"
android:orientation="horizontal">
</TableLayout>
</android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView>
I'm adding android:layout_weight="0.0652" in the header section above.
The actual table rows are added programmaticaly by creating TableRow and setting weights for each element inside of it:
double[] weigths = new double[]{0.0893, 0.0893, 0.2500, 0.0833, 0.1012, 0.0952, 0.0893, 0.1071, 0.0952};
creating table row:
TableRow tableRow = new TableRow(context);
TableRow.LayoutParams lp = new TableRow.LayoutParams(TableRow.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, TableRow.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, 1);
tableRow.setLayoutParams(lp);
tableRow.setOrientation(TableRow.HORIZONTAL);
tableRow.setBackgroundColor(resources.getColor(trainingPlayerSelectRowColor));
tableRow.setGravity(Gravity.CENTER_VERTICAL | Gravity.CENTER_HORIZONTAL);
tableRow.setTag(player.getId());
Creating elements inside of tablerow:
for (int i = 0; i < weights.length; ++i) {
TextView h1 = new TextView(context);
h1.setText(values[i]);
TableRow.LayoutParams params = new TableRow.LayoutParams(0, TableRow.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, (float) weights[i]);
h1.setLayoutParams(params);
h1.setTextColor(resources.getColor(standingsTableHeadTXT));
if (i == 2) {
h1.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT);
} else {
h1.setGravity(Gravity.CENTER);
}
h1.setTextSize(TypedValue.COMPLEX_UNIT_SP, 20);
tableRow.addView(h1);
}
The values array is an array of Strings.
I made weights (layout_weight) in the header_table_row same as the rows added programatically in the actual table. But they do not match:
Is there any mistake or how can I make columns in both tables match?
They currently appear on the center.
Android Java Code
public void populateTable() {
for(DoctorBean post: beanPostArrayList){
String result = "";
TableRow row = new TableRow(getActivity());
row.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
ImageView docImageView = new ImageView(getActivity());
docImageView.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
docImageView.setPadding(5, 5, 5, 5);
docImageView.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_doctor);
TextView textView = new TextView(getActivity());
textView.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
textView.setPadding(5, 5, 5, 5);
result += "\n" + post.getHeroName();
textView.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT);
docImageView.setForegroundGravity(Gravity.LEFT);
row.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT);
textView.setText(result);
row.addView(docImageView);
row.addView(textView);
tableLayout.addView(row);
}
}
Layout Code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<com.google.android.gms.maps.MapView
android:id="#+id/mapView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="229dp"
class="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment" />
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<TableLayout
android:id="#+id/tableLayout1"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:padding="10dp"
android:shrinkColumns="*"
android:stretchColumns="*">
</TableLayout>
</ScrollView></LinearLayout>
So there I want to align the ImageView and the TextView to the left.
An alternative approach should solve your issue
You don't need to add explicit scroll for a TableView
TableView can be directly added to your main LinearLayout. As you have already specified the height of MapView
Suggested Modified xml
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/mainLL"
android:orientation="vertical">
<com.google.android.gms.maps.MapView
android:id="#+id/mapView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="229dp"
class="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment" />
<TableLayout
android:id="#+id/tableLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
</TableLayout>
</LinearLayout>
Corresponding code change
LinearLayout linearLayout=(LinearLayout)view.findViewById(R.id.mainLL);
//Table Layout parameters
TableRow.LayoutParams textViewParam = new TableRow.LayoutParams(TableRow.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,1.0f);
TableLayout tableLayout = (TableLayout) view.findViewById(R.id.tableLayout);
TableRow trHead = new TableRow(context);
LayoutParams tableRowParams = new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT);
trHead.setLayoutParams(tableRowParams);
TextView nameHead = new TextView(context);
nameHead.setText("Content left");
nameHead.setLayoutParams(textViewParam);
nameHead.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT);//or Gravity.CENTER according to your requirement
trHead.addView(nameHead);
TextView detailHead = new TextView(context);
detailHead.setText("Content right");
detailHead.setGravity(Gravity.RIGHT);//or Gravity.CENTER according to your requirement
detailHead.setLayoutParams(textViewParam);
trHead.addView(detailHead);
tableLayout.addView(trHead);
//add table layout to linear layout
linearLayout.add(tableLayout);
NOTE:
Many values have been referred from resource files, You can either
neglect/replicate those. I have added two textviews. You may need to
change according to your requirement
I am developing an Android App. In my app, I am adding view dynamically and setting its weight in code as well. But it is not working.
This is my XML for container of dynamic views:
<ScrollView>
.
.
.
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="vertical"
android:id="#+id/id_related_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"></LinearLayout>
.
.
.
</ScrollView>
This is how I am adding controls dynamically to it.
private void addRelatedItemViews(final ArrayList<Item> relatedItems)
{
LinearLayout subContainer= new LinearLayout(this);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams initialParam = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
subContainer.setLayoutParams(initialParam);
relatedItemsContainer.addView(subContainer);
for(int i=0;i<relatedItems.size();i++)
{
if(i>0 && i%2==0)
{
//initialize sub container
subContainer = new LinearLayout(this);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams subContainerParam = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
subContainer.setLayoutParams(subContainerParam);
relatedItemsContainer.addView(subContainer);
}
final int index = i;
View view = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.realated_item_view,null);
ImageView imageView = (ImageView)view.findViewById(R.id.iv_related_item_image);
TextView tvName = (TextView)view.findViewById(R.id.tv_related_item_name);
TextView tvPrice = (TextView)view.findViewById(R.id.tv_related_item_price);
TextView tvLikeCount = (TextView)view.findViewById(R.id.tv_related_item_like_count);
Picasso.with(getBaseContext()).load(relatedItems.get(i).getMediumImageUrl()).into(imageView);
tvName.setText(relatedItems.get(i).getName());
tvPrice.setText(CommonHelper.formatCurrency(relatedItems.get(i).getPrice()));
tvLikeCount.setText(CommonHelper.formatLikeCount(relatedItems.get(i).getLikeCount()) + " like");
view.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
openItemActivity(relatedItems.get(index).getId());
}
});
LinearLayout itemContainer = new LinearLayout(this);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams params = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,1);
itemContainer.setLayoutParams(params);
itemContainer.addView(view);
subContainer.addView(itemContainer);
}
}
This is my realated_item_view.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:padding="3dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<LinearLayout
android:background="#drawable/item_bg"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/iv_related_item_image"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<LinearLayout
android:padding="5dp"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<TextView
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textSize="17dp"
android:id="#+id/tv_related_item_name"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<TextView
android:layout_marginTop="3dp"
android:textSize="13dp"
android:id="#+id/tv_related_item_price"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<TextView
android:layout_marginTop="3dp"
android:textSize="10dp"
android:id="#+id/tv_related_item_like_count"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
But it is not settings its weight properly. Actually, each row has two column and each column must be half of screen width. But it is not working.
This is the screenshot:
As you can see, it not taking screen half by half. How can I fix it?
Try this below in your realated_item_view.xml (wrap_content to fill_parent)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:padding="3dp"
And change your Java code:
LinearLayout.LayoutParams params = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,1);
itemContainer.setLayoutParams(params);
itemContainer.addView(view);
subContainer.addView(itemContainer);
But maybe your image will be stretched by the width. But it will fill half of the width as you want.
UPDATE:
I dont know why you tried failed with above solution. So I write a small demo for referencing. It uses ScrollView as you want. But I strongly recommend you should use GridView instead for better perfomance!!!
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.test_layout);
LinearLayout containerLayout = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.container_layout);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams params = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater();
for (int i = 0; i < 4; i ++){
LinearLayout subLayout = new LinearLayout(this);
subLayout.setOrientation(LinearLayout.HORIZONTAL);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams subParams = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, 1);
for (int j = 0; j < 3; j ++){
View v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.test_item_layout, null, false);
if (j == 1){
ImageView imageView = (ImageView) v.findViewById(R.id.imageView);
imageView.setImageResource(R.drawable.icon);
}
subLayout.addView(v, subParams);
}
containerLayout.addView(subLayout, params);
}
}
test_item_layout.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Screenshot:
Instead of ViewGroup.LayoutParams try it with LinearLayout.LayoutParams and also set layout width to 0
LinearLayout itemContainer = new LinearLayout(this);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams params = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(0, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,1);
itemContainer.setLayoutParams(params);
It might work.
try this
use straggerdgridlayout manager
RecyclerView recyclerView = (RecyclerView)findViewById(R.id.recycler_view);
recyclerView.setHasFixedSize(true);
gaggeredGridLayoutManager = new StaggeredGridLayoutManager(column, 1);
recyclerView.setLayoutManager(gaggeredGridLayoutManager);
column replaces your requirement of column
I want my 2D array to be displayed as matrix format. For that which layout is suitable? Can I have any example for that?
The simple answer is to use a TableLayout with TextViews inside.
But if you want to display a large array, you should make the matrix scrollable in both directions. Below is the code that populates a matrix that is displayed as a series of EditTexts inside rows, inside a TableLayout. The TableLayout is made scrollable in both directions using two ScrollView. Adapt the code to your needs. table is the TableLayout with the id tableLayout1.
private void fillTable(final int n, final double[][] matrix, TableLayout table) {
table.removeAllViews();
for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) {
TableRow row = new TableRow(MainActivity.this);
row.setLayoutParams(new TableRow.LayoutParams(TableRow.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, TableRow.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
for (int j = 0; j < n; j++) {
EditText edit = new EditText(OutputActivity.this);
edit.setInputType(InputType.TYPE_CLASS_NUMBER|InputType.TYPE_NUMBER_FLAG_DECIMAL|InputType.TYPE_NUMBER_FLAG_SIGNED);
edit.setLayoutParams(new TableRow.LayoutParams(TableRow.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, TableRow.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
edit.setText(Double.toString(matrix[i][j]));
edit.setKeyListener(null);
row.addView(edit);
}
table.addView(row);
}
}
The layout XML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/scrollView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<HorizontalScrollView
android:id="#+id/horizontalScrollView1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal" >
<TableLayout
android:id="#+id/tableLayout1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
</TableLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</HorizontalScrollView>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</LinearLayout>
I'm a beginner in Android devt (started 3 days ago) and have a problem declaring a View's Layout. I have checked everywhere on how to set a TextView's margins programatically and so far, none of them work. The TextView always disappears when I apply the Layout.
Here's my code:
TableLayout tView = (TableLayout)findViewById(R.id.AllDocumentsTable);
TableRow trView = buildRow();
TextView tViewProjTitle = buildCell();
tViewProjTitle.setText(doc.project);
TextView tViewDocTitle = buildCell();
tViewDocTitle.setText(doc.document);
trView.addView(tViewProjTitle);
trView.addView(tViewDocTitle);
try {
tView.addView(trView, i);
}
catch (Exception e) {
Log.e("adding tablerow", e.getMessage());
}
buildRow()..
private TableRow buildRow(){
TableRow retRow = new TableRow(this);
retRow.setBackgroundColor(Color.WHITE);
TableLayout.LayoutParams rowLayout = new TableLayout.LayoutParams(TableLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,
TableLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
rowLayout.setMargins(2, 2, 2, 2);
retRow.setLayoutParams(rowLayout);
return retRow;
}
buildCell()..
private TextView buildCell(){
TextView retTView = new TextView(this);
retTView.setBackgroundColor(Color.WHITE);
retTView.setGravity(0);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams params = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,
LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
params.setMargins(2, 2, 2, 2);
retTView.setLayoutParams(params);
return retTView;
}
My Activity's layout.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Help!!! :)
you can set the margins like this:
LinearLayout.LayoutParams lp=(LinearLayout.LayoutParams)textview.getLayoutParams();
lp.topMargin=10;
lp.leftMargin=10;
