There is quite strange and bad error on devices from sony family.
I have implemented actually the same code as it was in example.
There is a problem with dialog layout which show very very strange behaviour.
So far I don't know how to fix it.
Here is the picture:
Here is my code:
public class DialogFragmentRadioChannelAdd extends DialogFragment {
private DialogInterface.OnClickListener listener;
private AddChannelListener addChannelListener;
public DialogFragmentRadioChannelAdd() {
setDialogType(DialogType.AlertDialog);
}
#Override
public AlertDialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(getActivity());
View dialoglayout = inflater.inflate(R.layout.add_channel, null);
final EditText channelAddTitle = (EditText) dialoglayout.findViewById(R.id.addChannelTitle);
final EditText channelAddUrl = (EditText) dialoglayout.findViewById(R.id.addChannelUrl);
AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(getActivity());
builder.setTitle(("Dodaj kanał radiowy"));
builder.setView(dialoglayout);
builder.setPositiveButton("Zapisz", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialogInterface, int i) {
if (addChannelListener != null)
addChannelListener.onSave(dialogInterface, i, channelAddTitle, channelAddUrl);
}
})
.setNegativeButton("Anuluj", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialogInterface, int i) {
if (addChannelListener != null)
addChannelListener.onCancel(dialogInterface, i);
}
});
return builder.create();
}
public void setAddChannelListener(AddChannelListener addChannelListener)
{
this.addChannelListener = addChannelListener;
}
}
And here is the xml code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<org.holoeverywhere.widget.LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:padding="1dp"
android:layout_margin="1dp"
>
<org.holoeverywhere.widget.EditText
android:id="#+id/addChannelTitle"
android:minWidth="250dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:singleLine="true"
android:hint="Wpisz tytuł kanału radiowego"/>
<org.holoeverywhere.widget.EditText
android:id="#+id/addChannelUrl"
android:layout_below="#id/addChannelTitle"
android:minWidth="250dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:singleLine="true"
android:hint="Wpisz adres url kanału radiowego"/>
</org.holoeverywhere.widget.LinearLayout>
Someone was talking to replace linearlayout with something else in root but I don't have so much experience to find out the solution. As I said the problem is usualy with sony family in android 2.3.+
Edit:
So I spend some time to find out any hack.
Here is a link to show what did I changed (hosted on diff comparator 1year)(or the right comparing to original code on the left) Link to compartor with changes.
What I did is just changing linear layout into relative in base holoeverywhere layout called alert_dialog_holo.xml found in holoeverywhere library in res/layout
Fixed alert_dialog.xml layout for version holoeverywhere (dont know but today is 22-12-2013 so I think it is 2.1.0)

You will get some errors in library's code but you need just to change it to relative where is linear
I am talking about class AlertController.java also stored in holoeverywhere libary in /src/widget/.
For listview/singlechoicemenu in dialog and according to up xml you need change some code in AlertController in method setupContent(xxx)
private void setupContent(RelativeLayout contentPanel) {
mScrollView = (ScrollView) mWindow.findViewById(R.id.scrollView);
mScrollView.setFocusable(false);
mMessageView = (TextView) mWindow.findViewById(R.id.message);
if (mMessageView == null) {
return;
}
if (mMessage != null) {
mMessageView.setText(mMessage);
} else {
mMessageView.setVisibility(View.GONE);
mScrollView.removeView(mMessageView);
if (mListView != null) {
contentPanel.removeView(mWindow.findViewById(R.id.scrollView));
contentPanel.addView(mListView, new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
contentPanel.setLayoutParams(new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
} else {
contentPanel.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
}
}

I'm building an Android app.
In my first activity I want to create a list of button like this:
So I have build this code:

Can we help me?
Use this code if you have a fixed size of elements.
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"

android:layout_margin="15dp"

</android.support.v7.widget.CardView>
Use compile 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:25.0.0' to get the CardView.
this is the sample output.
use ListView or RecyclerView with your custom list item which will contain image buttons and custom adapter
Instead of px use dp it´s much better!
If you want a fixed list, your XML is correct, but if you want a dynamic list, you should use ListView or RecycleView , as the others users said.
The weight in your LinearLayout is wrong, weight should be used when you desires your screen to fit in every screen, no matter the size ( and you will need to "distribute" your weigth throught the children´s).
To make your screen similar to the first image, you need to set a background in your second LinearLayout
Okey this a recyclerview for what you want,
public class MainPageAdapter extends RecyclerView.Adapter<MainPageAdapter.ViewHolder> {
private #DrawableRes int[] iconDrawables;
private String[] texts;
#Override
public ViewHolder onCreateViewHolder(ViewGroup parent, int viewType) {
final View v = LayoutInflater.from(parent.getContext()).inflate(R.layout.item, parent, false);
return new ViewHolder(v);
}
#Override
public void onBindViewHolder(ViewHolder holder, int position) {
holder.img_lockIcon.setImageResource(iconDrawables[position]);
holder.txt_whatever.setText(texts[position]);
}
#Override
public int getItemCount() {
return iconDrawables != null ? iconDrawables.length : 0;
}
public void setData(#DrawableRes int[] iconDrawables, String[] texts){
this.iconDrawables = iconDrawables;
this.texts = texts;
this.notifyDataSetChanged();
}
public static class ViewHolder extends RecyclerView.ViewHolder {
ImageView img_icon;
TextView txt_whatever;
ImageView img_lockIcon;
public ViewHolder(View itemView) {
super(itemView);
img_icon = itemView.findViewById(R.id.item_img_icon);
txt_whatever = itemView.findViewById(R.id.item_txt_whatever);
img_lockIcon = itemView.findViewById(R.id.item_img_lockIcon);
}
}
}
this is R.layout.item,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="8dp"
android:padding="8dp"
android:background="#color/colorAccent"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools">

android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="36dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:layout_marginLeft="8dp"
android:layout_marginRight="8dp"
android:textColor="#android:color/white"
tools:text="YouTube"/>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/item_img_lockIcon"
android:layout_width="40dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
tools:src="#mipmap/ic_launcher"/>
</LinearLayout>
and below is MainActivity layout,
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.v7.widget.CardView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:cardCornerRadius="0dp"
app:cardElevation="0dp"
app:cardBackgroundColor="#color/colorPrimary"
android:layout_margin="8dp">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recyclerView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
tools:listitem="#layout/item"/>
</android.support.v7.widget.CardView>
</FrameLayout>
and below is MainActivity,
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
RecyclerView recyclerView = findViewById(R.id.recyclerView);
recyclerView.setLayoutManager(new LinearLayoutManager(this));
MainPageAdapter adapter = new MainPageAdapter();
recyclerView.setAdapter(adapter);
//Set your data
//adapter.setData();
}
}
You can change color as you want and also notify that ı used two different arrays for adapter but you can use pojo classes also. Hope this helps you.
I have been reading about how to dynamically add an EditText field to my Linear Layout, every-time a user clicks a TextView (which has an onClick Listener attached).
I have had some mild success - I know that the EditText field is being created because when the button is clicked, all other elements move up as if something is being added to the screen.
My problem is that the EditText aren't visible and I haven't a clue why that is, so any help would be appreciated.
The the app isn't crashing so nothing to add in terms of the StackTrace and Log, as far as the app is concerned, everything is being created.

I created markers on the map. When I click on them, the custom info windows are always as wide as the screen.
I tried setting layout_width="200dp" but that didn't help. I also tried setting
view.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(GetDipsFromPixel(200), GetDipsFromPixel(300)));
I can set the width of the textviews by setting snippetUi.setWidth(GetDipsFromPixel(200)); but the layout still remains screen wide.

Basically you just need to have another level of layout below root, like this:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:background="#android:color/transparent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="250dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#android:color/white"
android:orientation="horizontal">
...
Just create the parent layout with "wrap_content" and a child layout with the desired size:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
<!-- This layout defines the desired size -->
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="240dp"
android:layout_height="320dp"
android:orientation="vertical">
<!-- Your views here -->
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
If you want to show custom window with fixed size ( Height or Width ) then you have to make drawable and set it as a background of XML.
I have posted my answer HERE with solution.You can refer how it works.
#Override
public View getInfoWindow(Marker arg0) {
return null;
}
#Override
public View getInfoContents(Marker arg0) {
View v = getActivity().getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.custom_info_window, null);
v.setLayoutParams(new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(500,300));
}
In my case, I set the fixed width of one of the child of the layout and it worked. Don't know why it did not work when setting width of the root view. Here is an example:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/white"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:padding="3dp">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/info_window_image"
android:layout_width="200dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:scaleType="fitXY"
android:src="#drawable/facebook"/>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:lines="1"
android:maxLines="1"
android:singleLine="true"
android:text="Free for All Soccer Game"
android:textColor="#color/blue"
android:textSize="#dimen/medium" />
</LinearLayout

I have a LinearLayout that is a view in a FrameLayout. This LinearLayout sits on top in the frame.
Within this LinearLayout, there are some TextViews that are clickable. When I set the LinearLayout to View.GONE, everything goes away as expected except the TextViews are still clickable.
Why is this? And how do I avoid it other than setting all the clickable TextViews to View.GONE?

The fact that you change the visibility of a view doesn't mean that they are destroyed.
You should try adding something like this
yourButton.setClickable(false) ;
I am new to Android so I've been trying to tweak around for the past couple days but am stuck at this part. For my app, I'm trying to input a Button "Add More" which inflates a view to help incorporate user input but I'm running into issues. I looked around and I used his source code to help with my issue but I am running into the problem that my inflated xml layout is overlapping my previous set-up layout.
This is the layout that I have setup for my new_class_container file
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/parentView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:animateLayoutChanges="true"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:background="#drawable/gradient_gray">
<!-- Class Name -->
<TextView
android:id="#+id/register_class_textview"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/write_class_name"
android:layout_marginTop="20dp"
android:layout_marginLeft="5dp"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium"
android:textColor="#FFFFFF"/>
<EditText
android:id="#+id/register_class_edit"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/register_class_textview"
android:layout_alignBaseline="#+id/register_class_textview"

android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/btnAddNewItem"

</RelativeLayout>
This is how the layout for the code above looks like and I want to be able to press the "Add More" Button and it inflates to "create a new row", per say, of the TextViews of Assignment Type and Grade Weight and EditTexts of the respective TextViews. But when I run the app and press add more, the new set of TextView + EditText pop up right on top of what I have rather than underneath. The following is my other xml file new_class
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/register_assign_textview"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:text="#string/write_assignment_type"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium"/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/register_weight_textview"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:text="#string/write_assign_percent"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium"
android:layout_marginLeft="30dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<EditText
android:id="#+id/register_assign_edit"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center_horizontal"
android:hint="#string/example_assign"
android:singleLine="true">
</EditText>
<EditText
android:id="#+id/register_weight_edit"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:hint="#string/example_weight"
android:layout_marginLeft="30dp"
android:gravity="center_horizontal"
android:inputType="number"
android:singleLine="true">
</EditText>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
And this is the Java Code that I have
public class NewClass extends Activity{
private RelativeLayout mContainerView;
private Button mAddButton;
private View mExclusiveEmptyView;
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.new_class_container);
mContainerView = (RelativeLayout) findViewById(R.id.parentView);
mAddButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnAddNewItem);
}
protected void onSaveInstanceState(Bundle outState){
super.onSaveInstanceState(outState);
//TODO: Handle Screen Rotation
}
protected void onRestoreInstanceState(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onRestoreInstanceState(savedInstanceState);
// TODO: Handle screen rotation:
// restore the saved items and inflate each one with inflateEditRow;
}
// onClick handler for the "Add new" button;
public void onAddNewClicked(View v) {
// Inflate a new row and hide the button self.
inflateEditRow(null);
v.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
// onClick handler for the "X" button of each row
public void onDeleteClicked(View v) {
// remove the row by calling the getParent on button
mContainerView.removeView((View) v.getParent());
}
private void inflateEditRow(String name) {
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
final View rowView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.new_class, null);
//final ImageButton deleteButton = (ImageButton) rowView
// .findViewById(R.id.buttonDelete);
final EditText editText = (EditText) rowView
.findViewById(R.id.register_assign_edit);
if (name != null && !name.isEmpty()) {
editText.setText(name);
} else {
mExclusiveEmptyView = rowView;
//deleteButton.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
}
// A TextWatcher to control the visibility of the "Add new" button and
// handle the exclusive empty view.
editText.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() {
#Override
public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {
if (s.toString().isEmpty()) {
mAddButton.setVisibility(View.GONE);
//deleteButton.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
if (mExclusiveEmptyView != null
&& mExclusiveEmptyView != rowView) {
mContainerView.removeView(mExclusiveEmptyView);
}
mExclusiveEmptyView = rowView;
} else {
if (mExclusiveEmptyView == rowView) {
mExclusiveEmptyView = null;
}
mAddButton.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
// deleteButton.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
}
#Override
public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count,
int after) {
}
#Override
public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before,
int count) {
}
});
// Inflate at the end of all rows but before the "Add new" button
mContainerView.addView(rowView, mContainerView.getChildCount() - 1);
}
}
What can I do to prevent it from overlapping and showing up underneath? And how will I be able to move the button each time it's 'updated'? Because if I move the button to the new_class xml file then it won't show up originally for me to add more views.
I tried implementing the following code and what it did was enabled me to properly get a dynamic view added the first time but each time after it was overlapping the added view.
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams p = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
p.addRule(RelativeLayout.BELOW, R.id.register_assign_edit);
rowView.setLayoutParams(p);
This will work with having two layout files: main_layout and layout_to_include.

To use these layouts in your code:
....
setContentView(R.layout.main_layout);
....
llAddingContainer = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.llAddingContainer);
// Clicking on this button will add another view from 'layout_to_include' to the ScrollView
button1 = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button1);
button1.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
View view = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.layout_to_include, null);
// Find the elements in this view and set them up
EditText et1 = (EditText) view.findViewById(R.id.editText1)
....
....
....
// Add the view to the LinearLayout inside ScrollView
llAddingContainer.addView(view);
});
I'm not sure, but you can try follow code to move any view. I recommend to use RelativeLayout like your main layout.
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams bParams1 = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(
LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
bParams1.leftMargin = (int) leftMrgn;
bParams1.topMargin = (int) topMgrn;
bParams1.height = (int) bHeight;
bParams1.width = (int) bWidth;
anyView.setLayoutParams(bParams1);
RelativeLayouts act like a FrameLayout if you don't give them any LayoutParams (constraints like below, above, center, etc.).
You can either construct the appropriate RelativeLayout.LayoutParams, or better yet, create an empty vertical LinearLayout in your first layout that will contain the rows. Then, just add the rows to the LinearLayout instead of the RelativeLayout.
