Camera image returns thumbnail in Android - android

In my Android application, I want to capture an image from the camera and pass that image Uri to next activity.
Here, I am getting a thumbnail image of captured image. To solve that issue, I used MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT for my picture capture intent.
Now, I don't know how to get the uri of currently captured image. I tried the code below and passing imageUri in next activity, but it throws NoSuchFileDirectory exception.
I referred this link, but are not getting any clear idea about getting the captured image Uri and passing it to next activity. Please help me to solve this issue. If you find any problem with this code then suggest where I am going wrong.
Code:
btnCamera.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
dialog.dismiss();
Intent pictureActionIntent = new Intent(
android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
File photo = null;
try {
photo = SaveCameraImage();
} catch (Exception e) {
Log.e("Camera capture-------------",
"Can't create file to take picture!");
Toast.makeText(SelectFrameActivity.this,
"Please check SD card! Image shot is impossible!",
10000).show();
}
mImageUri = Uri.fromFile(photo);
pictureActionIntent
.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, mImageUri);
startActivityForResult(pictureActionIntent, TAKE_PICTURE);
}
});
private File SaveCameraImage() {
try {
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMdd_HHmmss");
String dt = sdf.format(new Date());
imageFile = null;
imageFile = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),
"FrameFace/" + "Camera_" + dt + ".png");
Log.e("New Camera Image Path:-",
Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/FrameFace/"
+ "Camera_" + dt + ".png");
if (!imageFile.exists())
imageFile.createNewFile();
bmp_camera_image.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 100,
new FileOutputStream(imageFile));
Log.e("imagetext", "the file has saved to the sdcard");
imagePath = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()
+ "/FrameFace/" + "Camera_" + dt + ".png";
Log.e("FaceFrameActivity - SaveCameraImage: ", "Image is Saved to"
+ imagePath);
} catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}
return imageFile;
}
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode,
final Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
switch (requestCode) {
case TAKE_PICTURE:
Log.e("result code: ", Integer.toString(Activity.RESULT_OK) + " "
+ Integer.toString(resultCode));
if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
// bmp_camera_image = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
SaveCameraImage();
// this.getContentResolver().notifyChange(mImageUri, null);
// ContentResolver cr = this.getContentResolver();
// try {
// GlobalClass.cameraBitmap =
// android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media
// .getBitmap(cr, mImageUri);
// } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
// // TODO Auto-generated catch block

// } catch (IOException e) {
// // TODO Auto-generated catch block
// e.printStackTrace();
// }
Handler h = new Handler();
h.postDelayed(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
Intent intent = new Intent(getApplicationContext(),
FaceCropActivity_dual.class);
// intent.putExtra("imagePath", imagePath);
intent.putExtra("imagePath", mImageUri.toString());
startActivity(intent);
}
}, 500);
}
break;
}
}

I used this code and its working for me to save camera image and getting uri of that image.
btnCamera.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
try {
dialog.dismiss();
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(
"yyyyMMdd_HHmmss");
String dt = sdf.format(new Date());
imageFile = null;
imageFile = new File(Environment
.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/FrameFace/",
"Camera_" + dt + ".png");
Log.e("New Camera Image Path:-",
Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()
+ "/FrameFace/" + "Camera_" + dt + ".png");
if (!imageFile.exists())
imageFile.createNewFile();
imagePath = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()
+ "/FrameFace/" + "Camera_" + dt + ".png";
Uri outputFileUri = Uri.fromFile(imageFile);
Intent pictureActionIntent = new Intent(
android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
pictureActionIntent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT,
outputFileUri);
startActivityForResult(pictureActionIntent, TAKE_PICTURE);
} catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}
}
});
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode,
final Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
switch (requestCode) {
case TAKE_PICTURE:
Log.e("result code: ", Integer.toString(Activity.RESULT_OK) + " "
+ Integer.toString(resultCode));
if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
Handler h = new Handler();
h.postDelayed(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
Intent intent = new Intent(getApplicationContext(),
FaceCropActivity_dual.class);
// intent.putExtra("imagePath", imagePath);
Log.e("Image Path-------------", "" + imagePath);
intent.putExtra("imagePath", imagePath);
startActivity(intent);
}
}, 500);
}
break;
}
}

imageFile = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),
"FrameFace/" + "Camera_" + dt + ".png");
here your creating subdirectory and a file in one shot. you create directory then image file
update
try this
imageFile = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/FrameFace" ,"Camera_" + dt + ".png");
remove this from oncick listener
File photo = null;
try {
photo = SaveCameraImage();
} catch (Exception e) {
Log.e("Camera capture-------------",
"Can't create file to take picture!");
Toast.makeText(SelectFrameActivity.this,
"Please check SD card! Image shot is impossible!",
10000).show();
}

I created a wrapper to help you with that. See the whole discussion on stackoverflow here or find the code on github.

How to show preview of the image clicked?

using custom camera how can we show the preview of the fullsize image after the image is being clicked from camera clicked and in preview if we can show whether to accept the image or discard the image before saving it to SD card.(Hint: As used in watsapp)
You will get image in byte[], you can convert this byte[] into bitmap and can show it in ImageView
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(yourbytearray, 0, yourbytearray.length);
The complete code according to your requirement is given below. Just follow this.Here uImage is Bitmap and imageView is the imageview where your image will be displayed.

Android "TAKE PHOTO" - Image which is clicked is getting saved as a corrupt image

I have a button, which opens up a dialog box asking user to either "Take Picture" or "Choose from gallery".
I am facing issues when user "Take photo" , image is getting clicked, and for verification purpose I am setting Bitmap image inside the circularImage view, but when I go to specified location path of the image, either Image is not there or Image is corrupted.
Also I am trying to upload the image to the server using AsyncHttpClient in android but not being able to do it successfully.
Everytime I am getting Java Socket TimeOut Exception.
Below is the code for my Camera Intent Activity

I simplified your code .keep reference of file path global
Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
File f = new File(android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "Image.jpg");
globalpath =f.getAbsolutePath(); //String make it global
intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(f));

//your onactivityresult
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
if (requestCode == 1) {
File myfile = new File(globalpath);

bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(myfile.getAbsolutePath(),
bitmapOptions);
ProfilePictureImage.setImageBitmap(bitmap);
String path = android.os.Environment
.getExternalStorageDirectory()
+ File.separator
+ "Pictures" + File.separator + "Screenshots";
OutputStream outFile;
File file = new File(path, String.valueOf(System
.currentTimeMillis()) + ".jpg");
try {
outFile = new FileOutputStream(file);
bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 85, outFile);
outFile.flush();
outFile.close();
myfile.delete();
} catch (Exception e) {

}
}
}
Depending on your Android version and device, the camera intent is to be implemented differently. Check out https://github.com/ralfgehrer/AndroidCameraUtil. The code is tested on 100+ devices.
After take the photo remember to use this:
sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILE, Uri.fromFile(myNewFile)));
to scan the media file in your gallery. If you doesn't do it your photo will appear after some time. You can do it in onClick:
insertImage.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
selectImage();
sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILE, Uri.fromFile(myNewFile)));
}
});

Android: saving camera pictures to the wrong place?

I have a fragment that takes a canvas drawing and saves it to external memory. I go into the device by connecting the USB and searching the file directory. I find it under Android/data/appname/files/img/nameofimage.png. Now I have a 2nd fragment that is saving pictures when the camera takes them but I can't find them.

I don't fully understand the code, why is this saving to a different location. Also what would I need to do to get it to save under Android/data/appname/files/Camera/ ?
edit
the logcat tells me its being saved here: 06-08 16:21:49.333: D/FILE(4818): the destination for image file is: /storage/emulated/0/Camera/image.jpg Which I assume is listed as private in the files and that's why I cant find it. This does not tell me why its being saved here though.

}
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {

Try this code

String path = sdCard.getAbsolutePath() + "/Camera" ;
File dir = new File(path);

File file = new File(path, FileName + ".jpg");
Uri outputFileUri = Uri.fromFile(file);

How to get full size image from imageview

I captured an image of 2592x1936 from mobile's camera, converted it into bitmap. I displayed it my imageview asmyImageVew.setImageBitmap(myBitmap);
after displaying this bitmap i perform some manipulation over this image(inside the imageview), now i m saving this using
Bitmap bitmap;
// frmCaptureThis is the root framelayout (this contains my imageview)
View v1 = frmCaptureThis;
v1.setDrawingCacheEnabled(true);
bitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(v1.getDrawingCache());
v1.setDrawingCacheEnabled(false);
saveImgToSDcard(bitmap);
this is saving my image to SD card but not with the 2592x1936 resolutions, its saving my image with size equal to the imageView size (i.e 400X620). i want to save the image with original resolution i.e 2592x1936
EDIT
here is my code for taking image via intent
// ////////// Capture Button Handler//////////////////
btnCapture.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.TITLE, "New Picture");
values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.DESCRIPTION,
"From your Camera");
imageUri = getActivity().getContentResolver().insert(
MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values);
Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_SCREEN_ORIENTATION,
ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_PORTRAIT);
intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, imageUri);
startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_OPEN_CAMERA);
}
});
and Here is my on Activity Result method
#Override
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
String imageurl = null;
if (requestCode == REQUEST_OPEN_CAMERA
&& resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
captureFlage = true;
relTapToCapture.setEnabled(false);
relHeader.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
frmCaptureThis.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
btnCapture.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
btnSave.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
txtTapToCapture.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
try {
thumbnail = MediaStore.Images.Media.getBitmap(getActivity()
.getContentResolver(), imageUri);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
} catch (IOException e) {
}
imageurl = getRealPathFromURI(imageUri);
if (thumbnail.getWidth() > thumbnail.getHeight()) {
// Log.i("Orientation", "LandScape");
// thumbnail = rotateImage_90(thumbnail);
imgCaptured.setImageBitmap(thumbnail);
} else {
// Log.i("Orientation", "Portrait");
imgCaptured.setImageBitmap(thumbnail);
}
File file = new File(imageurl);
boolean deleted = file.delete();
}
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
}
and here is my method for saving the image in SD card
public void saveImgToSDcard(Bitmap bitmap) {
Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
System.out.println("Current milliseconds since 13 Oct, 2008 are :"
+ cal.getTimeInMillis());
ByteArrayOutputStream bytes = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, bytes);
File f = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()
+ File.separator + "brandYourImage" + cal.getTimeInMillis()
+ ".jpg");
try {
f.createNewFile();
} catch (IOException e) {
}
// write the bytes in file
FileOutputStream fo = null;
try {
fo = new FileOutputStream(f);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
}
try {
fo.write(bytes.toByteArray());
} catch (IOException e) {
}
// remember close de FileOutput
try {
fo.close();
Toast.makeText(getActivity(), "Saved Successfully",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
} catch (IOException e) {
}
}
