Here's a part of my manifest file:
<permission-group
android:name="groupPerm"
android:description="#string/perm_get_desc"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/perm_label" />
<permission
android:name="bla.bla.GET_PHOTOS"
android:description="#string/perm_get_desc"
android:label="Access photos"
android:permissionGroup="groupPerm"
android:protectionLevel="dangerous" />
<permission
android:name="bla.bla.DELETE_PHOTOS"
android:description="#string/perm_delete_desc"
android:label="Delete photos"
android:permissionGroup="groupPerm"
android:protectionLevel="dangerous" />
This doesn't give me any error. However, when I find in the Application manager this application and I go to Permissions, the two custom permissions show in the group Default, instead of the group I just declared above. Does anyone see what I am doing wrong?
So here is the solution to my own question.
<permission-group
android:name="bla.bla.groupPerm"
android:description="#string/perm_get_desc"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/perm_label" />
<permission
android:name="bla.bla.GET_PHOTOS"
android:description="#string/perm_get_desc"
android:label="Access photos"
android:permissionGroup="bla.bla.groupPerm"
android:protectionLevel="dangerous" />
<permission
android:name="bla.bla.DELETE_PHOTOS"
android:description="#string/perm_delete_desc"
android:label="Delete photos"
android:permissionGroup="bla.bla.groupPerm"
android:protectionLevel="dangerous" />
Apparently, the permission group name should contain the package name also and not just the permission name, as in my previous example: groupPerm. I.e., the correct name should be: bla.bla.groupPerm, where bla.bla is the namespace. If you don't do this, the permissions will show under Default group and would be listed: bla.bla.DELETE_PHOTOS and bla.bla.GET_PHOTOS.

I declared <user-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> in my AndroidManifest since I thought it was the goto way of getting user-permissions.
But I got this warning : "Element user-permission not allowed here"
Via a quick google search I could not figure out what the problem or what the best practice is here.
I am using SDK 21 and up.
Change this.
<user-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> //Not Valid
To this.
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> //Correct One
I've created a hospital related app where i want to know the whether patient has visited the doctor or not, getting the location is the requirement of my app.
I've used ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION and ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission in manifest. The problem is whenever application tries to get the location at run time the system prompts a security dialog which says "this app is trying to obtain your current location" and asks user to allow or deny it,, and if user clicks on the deny button the location is not fetched..
I don't want the user to click on the deny button is there any way i can skip this security dialog and set 'always allow' option in my app permission through code and get the location without ever prompting the user for access.

The dialog you're seeing surely is a vendor specific feature. E.g. there is some function called KNOX for Samsung business devices, that seems to behave like what you're seeing. Once you found out where it comes from exactly, I wouldn't care about it any further. This is not widely spread and in those cases where the message pops up it will do for a reason: the user wants (or is forced by his administrator) to be informed about certain actions, such as apps wanting to get the current location.
You may check the normal behavior of your app in an emulator, if you do not have another device.
I have followed all steps mentioned in the porting guide for V1.

I have added hardwareAcceleration to application tag as well.
It shows location markers properly without map tiles.
What could be the issuw. I am testing on a Nokia X device without SD card.
Any help would be appreciated.
the minSdkVersion should be also changed to be 11, you do need to set the Id & token to values reserved for you
As well as do add following permissions as well:
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
Also do try zooming out, could indeed be that you are located in a area which is shown in white and having full zoom there..
Basically it should be black if the initialization fails, and it should be blue if there is no tiles (or you are at sea), white background thus would indeed be inddicating something else going wrong.
Do also make sure you have enabled location, and have working mobile internet. Would also suggest opening HERE maps app, and downlaoding the maps tiles for the same location used in the app, thus you could see that how it is supposed to look like.
I have downloaded a Geofence Sample Application form here but it is not working .I have replaced actions in GeofenceUtils class by putting app package name e.g com.example.android.geofence.ACTION_CONNECTION_ERROR is replaced by com.geofencesample.ACTION_CONNECTION_ERROR , here com.geofencesample is my app package name .I have put all the possible permissions regarding Location in manifest file , here is my manifest file .

I am passing lattitude , logitude and radius(10m) of geofence through UI , After clicking on "Register geofence" button I am entering and exiting from geofence but nothing happens . I am not getting any notification or any vibrate alert (I have added it in MainActivity$GeofenceSampleReceiver.handleGeofenceTransition) . Which suitable fix should I do .
Any help will be appreciated .
I have tested it using proper radius and app package name .Now App is working ,but in some cases it gives false entry notification . I am using Mock Locations provider app so that I can test it by keeping himself at a place . Still I am not getting proper notification .
I was just wondering how to request permissions when creating an android application. I am a beginner, so please explain in simple terms :D.
So I want to make it so that my app can vibrate the phone at certain times, and the permission is called "android.permission.VIBRATE." But how do I request this? I do it in the Android Manifest file right?
Thanks for all help!
You're definately right. You need to put it in the AndroidManifest.XML
If you're using eclipse you can do it quite easily and without XML by opening up AndroidManifext.xml and use the Permissions tab at the bottom and press the "Add" button and selecting "Uses Permission" Then just select vibrate from the dropdown list.
If you want to do it in XML code you can add it before the application tag, like so:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
<uses-permission android:name="com.android.vending.BILLING" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE" />
<application
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:name="Application" >
(the rest of your manifest continues from here)
