While on a break point, how do I see the call stack to find the callee method/function?
Seems like there is an UI-Bug in the Android Studio (1.x, 2.x and 3.x).
For me the "Frames/Threads" Panel was completely hidden behind the toolbar, so I had to change the size from the "variable" panel by dragging its left border to reveal the "Frames/Threads".
[I have to admit, that #Greg added this picture after reviewing my answer!]
At the bottom panel you should have "5: Debug". Click on it and select "Debugger -> Threads"
You may need to find the "Threads" icon on the far right, or even click the "Restore Layout" button on the left to restore this window.

I just downloaded Android Studio, and while I was trying to familiarize myself with the setup, I accidentally closed the Component Tree. I'm at very beginner level, and in all of the results I've come across, I didn't understand or it didn't work for me. How do I find the Component Tree again?

If you mean the "Component Tree" of the XML preview, this can be collapsed & expanded alike all other sidebars; it might be at the bottom-left of the XML preview window, where "Palette" is. It just sometimes requires double-clicking, in order to expand that panel. I tried, but I didn't manage to hide or remove it; if it is really missing, the Android Studio installation might be broken (needs reinstall).
Try anyone of these ways to restore hidden or misplaced component tree window-
Try Windows > Editor tabs > Close all.
then open your activity.xml again in your design mode. (Worked for me)
press shift F12, it should restore your window to default view.(or just go to Windows > Restore default layout).
hover over the square icon in the bottom left corner and click on component tree.
In the Android Studio, when i'm developing the app, I can't see the whole activity... I just see the components that i added to the layout.

I uninstall and install the IDE and nothing...
From your first image, click on the little eye icon on the top left hand of the image.
Select show layout decorations

To remove the coloured squares (Also known as inspections) you either need to solve the reason Android Studio has alerted you to that piece of code with a warning/error; or disable the inspections.
To disable one off/singular inspections:
Go to the part of the code which shows the warning/error
Press alt + enter on keyboard
Click "disable inspection"
That specific inspection should disappear
To disable all inspections:
Go to settings, then editor, then inspections
You should see a list of all inspections, here you can edit what ones you want, and how they behave
To turn off an inspection, un-check its tick-box to the right side of the list
To turn off all inspections, just un-check all tick-boxes
When I start Android Studio, settings related to the tooltip / floating doc window seem to revert back to normal. Specifically, I like the right hand side of my IDE to show doc info. However, I don't see settings for the default behavior of this window, just a toggle for turning it on or off.

What I like to do when opening any Android Studio project for the day is:
Hover over something to get the Documentation window to appear (covering the editor window almost entirely)
Go to the settings in that popup and UNcheck Floating, while leaving Pinned checked
Resize the width of the documentation pane which is now docked on the right like I want
This has been old for quite some time, repeating this step, sometimes being startled when I hover and the whole window pops up in my face. Whether global defaults or per project defaults are available, I'd like to know.
Can I set this default behavior and if so how? I am running Ubuntu or some flavor of linux on the dev PCs, so I am not interested in Windows-only solutions.
To change floating window to pinned by default edit the file:
.AndroidStudio2.3\config\options\window.manager.xml
with : <window_info id="Structure" active="false" anchor="right" auto_hide="true" internal_type="DOCKED" type="DOCKED" visible="false" show_stripe_button="true" weight="0.25" sideWeight="0.5" order="1" side_tool="false" content_ui="tabs" />

I have recently started using Android Studio and cannot work out how to access the properties window.
The following screenshot was taken from Google and shows exactly what I'm trying to access denoted by the red rectangle around the properties window.
Can anyone please tell me how I can access this?
Switch to design view. Click "Design" tab at bottom-left work area.
In the new Android Studio Version 3.1.2, the name of the Propierties Windows is "Attributes".
Look at this picture:

I had the same issue than found that the properties window was always there but I had to drag it out with my mouse. Just go to the far right vertical bar in Design mode then drag to the right when your mouse turns into horizontal arrows pointing away from each other. Hope this helps!
You can just click on the design tab on your screen (at the left bottom corner below your code text window) and just click on anything whose property you want to change
make sure you are in the '.xml' file
I accidentally deleted the properties side bar and Window-->restore deafult layout helped.

Instead of editing your view properties in XML, you can do so from the Properties window (on the right side of the Layout Editor). This window is available only when the design editor is open, so be sure you've selected the Design tab at the bottom of the window.
When you select a view, the Properties window shows the following, as indicated in figure 5:

This happens all the time, to my opinion Android team should see as an improvement opportunity, here is the solution, click on the settings (gear symbol) on the right make sure that the attached side is set to None. also -See screen shot-> 1,
You have three ways to see the fields, design mode, split mode and code mode. THE ONLY ONE THAT shows the Attribute bar is on the SPLIT MODE, click on the Attribute see screenshot->
if that does not work, you can go to Windows -> Restore default Layout
if that still does not work you can do File -> Manage IDE Settings -> Restore Default Settings.
if that still does not work you can go in file explorer and delete the .android studio folder in C\users[your user].Androidstudio#.#
