i dont want to use async task. please give me some other way to send an image

Two way you can do that one using the Asyn Task
public class MyUploadTask extends AsynTask<void,void,void>{
void doInBackground(){
//... do your upload task
}
}
The other is using a Thread
Thread myUploadTask = new Thread(new Runnable(){
void run(){
//... do your upload task
}
});
myUploadTask.start();
if you want to post update to the UI in a normal Thread use android.os.Handler Object to send messages between you main thread and Worker Thread.
In your case:
if i want to send image to the server in oncreate() method
public void onCreate(){
super.onCreate();
uploadToServer();
}
public void uploadToServer(){
Thread myUploadTask = new Thread (new Runnable(){
void run(){
//Calling the upload Image method
uploadFile("www.yourdomin.com/uploadFile");
}
});
myUploadTask.start();
}

This exception is because you are uploading image on main thread... Instead use AsyncTask to upload image to server...

Use a AsyncTask instead of runOnUiThread to execute your network operations, because Service don't have UI Thread.

How to send post data along with a file in Android?

I've been trying to post a multipart form in Android for the last couple of days but am not able to send string data and a file altogether. I'm using the following code to upload my file and it works just fine. But when it comes to adding String data to my request it falls short.
Imagine I need to append profile_id=1234&text=HERE IS MY TEXT&global=0 to the request. How can I do that?
String fileName = photoPath;
HttpURLConnection conn = null;
DataOutputStream dos = null;
String lineEnd = "\r\n";
String twoHyphens = "--";
String boundary = "*****";
int bytesRead, bytesAvailable, bufferSize;
byte[] buffer;
int maxBufferSize = 1 * 1024 * 1024;
try {
// open a URL connection to the Servlet
FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(new File(photoPath));
URL url = new URL(Util.URL_POST_FEED);
// Open a HTTP connection to the URL
conn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
conn.setDoInput(true); // Allow Inputs
conn.setDoOutput(true); // Allow Outputs
conn.setUseCaches(false); // Don't use a Cached Copy
conn.setRequestMethod("POST");
conn.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive");
conn.setRequestProperty("ENCTYPE", "multipart/form-data");
conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "multipart/form-data;boundary=" + boundary);
conn.setRequestProperty("file", fileName);
dos = new DataOutputStream(conn.getOutputStream());
dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes("Content-Disposition: form-data; name=\"file\";filename=\""
+ fileName + "\"" + lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes(lineEnd);
// create a buffer of maximum size
bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available();
bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize);
buffer = new byte[bufferSize];
// read file and write it into form...
bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
while (bytesRead > 0) {
dos.write(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available();
bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize);
bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
}
// send multipart form data necesssary after file data...
dos.writeBytes(lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + twoHyphens + lineEnd);
// Responses from the server (code and message)
int serverResponseCode = conn.getResponseCode();
String serverResponseMessage = conn.getResponseMessage();
Log.i("uploadFile", "HTTP Response is : "
+ serverResponseMessage + ": " + serverResponseCode);
if (serverResponseCode == 200) {
runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
Toast.makeText(c, "File Upload Complete.",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
});
}
InputStream stream = conn.getInputStream();
InputStreamReader isReader = new InputStreamReader(stream);
//put output stream into a string
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isReader);
Log.d("Read", br.readLine());
//close the streams //
fileInputStream.close();
dos.flush();
dos.close();
} catch (MalformedURLException ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
Toast.makeText(c, "MalformedURLException",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
});
Log.e("Upload file to server", "error: " + ex.getMessage(), ex);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
Toast.makeText(c, "Got Exception : see logcat ",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
});
Log.e("Upload file to server Exception", "Exception : "
+ e.getMessage(), e);
}
Check this tutorial. Hope it will be helpful.
It uses a custom MultipartUtility class which manually creates the request body to be sent over the connection.

Issue in uploading file/image on KitKat

Does anyone here know a way to upload an image from android 4.4 KitKat to a web server?
I have tried multipart file upload and also Base64, but none of them seems to work.
I have looked all over the internet but no luck.
Here is the code that is working until JellyBean:
public int uploadFile(String sourceFileUri) {
String upLoadServerUri = "http://hentairandom.com/el/files/try/uploader.php";
String fileName = sourceFileUri;
HttpURLConnection conn = null;
DataOutputStream dos = null;
String lineEnd = "\r\n";
String twoHyphens = "--";
String boundary = "*****";
int bytesRead, bytesAvailable, bufferSize;
byte[] buffer;
int maxBufferSize = 1 * 1024 * 1024;
File sourceFile = new File(sourceFileUri);
if (!sourceFile.isFile()) {
Log.e("uploadFile", "Source File Does not exist");
return 0;
}
try { // open a URL connection to the Servlet
FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(sourceFile);
URL url = new URL(upLoadServerUri);
conn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection(); // Open a HTTP connection to the URL
conn.setDoInput(true); // Allow Inputs
conn.setDoOutput(true); // Allow Outputs
conn.setUseCaches(false); // Don't use a Cached Copy
conn.setRequestMethod("POST");
conn.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive");
conn.setRequestProperty("ENCTYPE", "multipart/form-data");
conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "multipart/form-data;boundary=" + boundary);
conn.setRequestProperty("uploaded_file", fileName);
dos = new DataOutputStream(conn.getOutputStream());
dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes("Content-Disposition: form-data; name=\"uploaded_file\";filename=\""+ fileName + "\"" + lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes(lineEnd);
bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available(); // create a buffer of maximum size
bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize);
buffer = new byte[bufferSize];
// read file and write it into form...
bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
while (bytesRead > 0) {
dos.write(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available();
bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize);
bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
}
// send multipart form data necesssary after file data...
dos.writeBytes(lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + twoHyphens + lineEnd);
// Responses from the server (code and message)
serverResponseCode = conn.getResponseCode();
String serverResponseMessage = conn.getResponseMessage();
Log.i("uploadFile", "HTTP Response is : " + serverResponseMessage + ": " + serverResponseCode);
if(serverResponseCode == 200){

Capture sequential images in time-lapse

I am working with the camera on an Android device. I have captured some images and uploaded them to http.
I used an Intent to invoke an existing Android camera application
Intent i = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
startActivityForResult(i, CAMERA_PIC_REQUEST);
I have Button:
btn.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
new Thread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
int response = uploadFile("sdcad/" + myLocation
+ ".jpg");
}
}).start();
}
});
public int uploadFile(String sourceFileUri) {
String upLoadServerUri = "...";
String fileName = sourceFileUri;
HttpURLConnection conn = null;
DataOutputStream dos = null;
String lineEnd = "\r\n";
String twoHyphens = "--";
String boundary = "*****";
int bytesRead, bytesAvailable, bufferSize;
byte[] buffer;
int maxBufferSize = 1 * 1024 * 1024;
File sourceFile = new File(sourceFileUri);
if (!sourceFile.isFile()) {
Log.e("uploadFile", "Source File Does not exist");
return 0;
}
try { // open a URL connection to the Servlet
FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(sourceFile);
URL url = new URL(upLoadServerUri);
conn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection(); // Open a HTTP
// connection to
// the URL
conn.setDoInput(true); // Allow Inputs
conn.setDoOutput(true); // Allow Outputs
conn.setUseCaches(false); // Don't use a Cached Copy
conn.setRequestMethod("POST");
conn.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive");
conn.setRequestProperty("ENCTYPE", "multipart/form-data");
conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type",
"multipart/form-data;boundary=" + boundary);
conn.setRequestProperty("uploaded_file", fileName);
dos = new DataOutputStream(conn.getOutputStream());
dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes("Content-Disposition: form-data; name=\"uploaded_file\";filename=\""
+ fileName + "\"" + lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes(lineEnd);
bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available(); // create a buffer of
// maximum size
bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize);
buffer = new byte[bufferSize];
// read file and write it into form...
bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
while (bytesRead > 0) {
dos.write(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available();
bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize);
bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize);
}
// send multipart form data necesssary after file data...
dos.writeBytes(lineEnd);
dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + twoHyphens + lineEnd);
// Responses from the server (code and message)
serverResponseCode = conn.getResponseCode();
String serverResponseMessage = conn.getResponseMessage();
Log.i("uploadFile", "HTTP Response is : " + serverResponseMessage
+ ": " + serverResponseCode);
if (serverResponseCode == 200) {
runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
tv.setText("File Upload Completed.");
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),
"File Upload Complete.", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT)
.show();
}
});
}
// close the streams //
fileInputStream.close();
dos.flush();
dos.close();
} catch (MalformedURLException ex) {
// dialog.dismiss();
ex.printStackTrace();
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "MalformedURLException",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
Log.e("Upload file to server", "error: " + ex.getMessage(), ex);
} catch (Exception e) {
// dialog.dismiss();
e.printStackTrace();
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),
"Exception : " + e.getMessage(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
Log.e("Upload file to server Exception",
"Exception : " + e.getMessage(), e);
}
// dialog.dismiss();
return serverResponseCode;
}
Now I would like to to capture sequential images in time-lapse, upload these. How can I achieve this? Thanks.
