Loading my transparent activity hides the keyboard - android

I manage some events in a background BroadcastReceiver. In some specific situations I need to launch an activity. This activity is supposed to be hidden. Nothing should be displayed to the user.
It works well but if the user is using the keyboard, typing something, the keyboard is hidden. If the user is using GMail, writing an email, then a "draft" is saved.
It seems like this activity gets to the top and stops the one the user is using even if it is invisible. Is there any way to solve this?
This how I declare the activity in manifest:
<activity
android:name=".MyInvisbleActivity"
android:theme="#android:style/Theme.Translucent.NoTitleBar">
</activity>
This is how I launch it:
Intent intent = new Intent(MyContext, MyInvisbleActivity.class);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
MyContext.startActivity(intent);
This is the MyInvisbleActivity onCreate():
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
//setContentView(---); //This is not used
Window oWindow = getWindow();
oWindow.addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_NOT_TOUCHABLE);
--do work--
}
Thank you!

Android provides a theme for this android:theme="#android:style/Theme.NoDisplay"
Alternatively it sounds like you might actually want a service. But youd need to provide more information on what you are trying to achieve

How to bring Android activity to the front without bringing app to front if it is running in background?

I have an app that may run in the background. While it is running, it may bring a certain activity to the front. However, when the app brings the activity to the front, if the app is currently running at background, I do not want Android to bring the app itself to the front, just do it at background. The reason being is I do not want my app to interrupt what the customer is doing at the moment.
The following is my code that launches the activity.
Intent intentLogin = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), LoginActivity.class);
intentLogin.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK|Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
startActivity(intentLogin);
The issue with the above code is every time when it is called, it always bring my app to the front even the app is running at background, that is, annoy my customer.
My question is, is there a way that I can quietly bring the activity to the front? If my app is running in front, thats great --- the customer see the new activity straight away. If my app is running at background, I want to quietly bring the activity to the front when app is running in background, and next time when my customer resume the app, they will see the new activity I brought forward.
How can I do that?
Thank you very much!
如果我没理解错的话:
App background and usual player.
When user logged out , you can clear the user data saved in local and show a notification.And when the notification is clicked, start LoginActivity.
App background and unusual player.
When the notification shows ,the user do not click it instead of run the app.You can check the user data whether existing or not by onResume()in BaseActivity.If not ,start LoginActivity.
App foreground.
clear user data and force to start LoginActivity.
If you don't like the solution above(the best user experence I think),try this:
In onCreate() in the specific Activity ,use moveTaskToBack(true) to hide the intent.But remember to check whether the app is running background or foreground.you can refer to this.
If understand correctly, I suggest this:
User leaves your app, and when user come back to your app you want to show another activity instead of .MainActivity
define another activity as Main and with NoDisplay theme.
<activity
android:name=".MainActivity"
android:theme="#android:style/Theme.NoDisplay">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/>
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/>
</intent-filter>
</activity>
then define your normal activities. In MainActivity class define a static variable. for example
public static boolean appRun = false;
onCreate() of SecondActivity change its value to true.
class SecondActivity extends Activity{
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle Saved){
super.onCreate(Saved);
MainActivity.appRun = true;
}
}
and onPause set this.finish(); to avoid not resuming to SecondActivity and force to start from MainActivity.
then onCreate() or onResume() of MainActivity check it s value and navigate to another activity.
if(appRun == true){
/*it means user went to SecondActivity and you want to display another*/
startActivity(new Intent(context, NewActivity.class));
}
else{
//this is first time so navigate to SecondActivity
}
Also If you can use Fragments this solution can work for that too.

Exclude current activity from Recent Tasks

My app, running in background, at some point displays activity to purposefully interrupt user's flow. My activity starts a new task, which appears in "Recent Tasks" lists while being in foreground. Is there any way it could be prevented? Setting android:excludeFromRecents does not work - activity is not presented anymore in "Recent Tasks" only after is has been paused.
Manifest looks like:
<activity
android:name="com.example.recenttasks.MainActivity"
android:excludeFromRecents="true">
</activity>
and activity is started this way:
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Intent i = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
context.startActivity(i);
}
The key thing you mentioned is
appears in "Recent Tasks" lists while being in foreground
I think you can't change that behavior. I just tested on my app and the same thing happens. If I press the "recent tasks" button while having my activity in the foreground, it appears listed there. The moment I move out of it to another activity or to my phone's main screen, the activity is not listed anymore.
I also tested this on the built-in DeskClock app that comes with recent Android versions and the same behavior is present there when a new alarm is triggered. Note that the AlarmAlertFullscreen activity of that app has the same parameters you mentioned in your question.
I'm not sure you can circumvent this or why you would need to in the first place since the activity is not listed anymore once it loses the focus.
you are defined it in manifest that is enough but it is not coming..
ok..try add this flag also to your Intnet and start the Activity..
intnet.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_EXCLUDE_FROM_RECENTS);
Should the user be able to return to it? (Meaning if it shows and user clicks recents, have they lost their chance to see the hidden activity or should it still be there?)
If they cannot return to it anyway then the best action would be to finish() the activity onPause(). This will mean that as long as you have used android:excludeFromRecents and android:noHistory="true", there will be no item in recents.
If however you do wish to return to the 'interruption' activity (but do not want a recents entry) you could consider still finishing the activity onPause - but also recording a preference flag (something like IS_INTERSTITIAL). Your other activities can then check this preference in onResume and, if it is true, send an Intent to restart the Interstitial instead - To the user it will just appear they are resuming the app in the same state as they left it (interstitial)
Edit: If the screen needs to stay (rather than be re-instantiated) it may be possible to use a DialogFragment, although then you must worry about configuration changes. There is one hack you could try (explained in this answer) -
Set your label empty By using android:label="" your recent task is excluded. however this is a definite hack which may produce inconsistent results (as I haven't tested it to be sure)

native calling screen animation stops when dialog activity display on screen

I have on dialog activity with 2 buttons which is being display when native caller id screen displays. Two buttons are click-able and also I can pick up and reject call by android native screen buttons.
Problem is when this dialog displays, animation of native call screen stops. I have seen this things in Truecaller app and also Current Caller Id app. I have also used following some codes
Manifest.xml
android:launchMode="singleInstance"
android:taskAffinity=""
android:theme="#android:style/Theme.Dialog"
android:windowAnimationStyle="#android:style/Animation.Translucent"
android:windowBackground="#android:color/transparent"
android:windowIsTranslucent="true"
And activity.java
getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_NOT_TOUCH_MODAL);
getWindow().setFlags(LayoutParams.FLAG_NOT_FOCUSABLE,
LayoutParams.FLAG_NOT_FOCUSABLE);
getWindow().clearFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DIM_BEHIND);
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
and adding flags from intent call
Intent i1 = new Intent(this, activity.class);
i1.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
i1.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_REORDER_TO_FRONT);
i1.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_MULTIPLE_TASK);
i1.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_BROUGHT_TO_FRONT);
i1.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
I have tried lots of things to achieve this, How can I create dialog so caller id animation don't stop. Thanks in advance.
I implemented a solution that works well for me (and does not stop animation), here it is: https://github.com/inez/CustomIncomingCallScreen

disable all home button and task bar features on Nexus 7

I am building an app that will form part of an exhibition. It will be displayed on a Nexus 7 which will be securely mounted. The app has touchscreen functionality and will display interactive content.
I need to be able to disable as many features as possible whilst on display as I do not want the public to be able to get to anything other than the app.
The main thing I am struggling with is the back/home/recent app list button. I have found some examples of disabling home button (child lock Android - Is It possible to disable the click of home button
) but ideally I need the buttons to be invisible, so to turn off the 'glow' (black would be fine).
Is the bottom section on a Nexus 7 protected in some way, is there another version of Android that would allow me to do this? The Nexus device will only be used for displaying this app, no other functionality is needed.
Any suggestions would be great and very much appreciated.
Your best solution without creating your own custom Android rom to remove the bottom buttons, will be to make the app full screen, override the back button, and make your app a launcher in order to override the home button.
AFAIK, there is no way of overriding the recent apps button.
Edit: One other option would to have a fullscreen app and then use a mount that will cover the buttons. (Thanks to MaciejGórski for the idea).
To make your app full screen, put the following in your activity's onCreate():
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN);
Or you can make the app full screen from within the manifest as well, thanks to #Niels:
<application android:theme="#android:style/Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar.Fullscreen">
To override the back button, add this method:
#Override
public void onBackPressed() {
return;
}
Now the home button is trickier, add the following to your manifest:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
and this to your manifest under the <activity>:
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.HOME" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
</intent-filter>
and this to your manifest under the <application>, make sure that the <receiver name> is the full package name path you define:
<receiver android:name="com.example.BootCompleteReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
And lastly, create a java class file called BootCompleteReceiver, and use this code:
public class BootCompleteReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Intent startActivityIntent = new Intent(context, YourActivityName.class);
startActivityIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
context.startActivity(parentActivityIntent);
}
}
To later disable your app as a home screen launcher, press the recent app button, swipe down from the right side, tap settings, go to apps, then tap the upper right three dots (vertically aligned), press "Reset app preferences", and then finally press "Reset apps".
I think that should just about cover it all.
EDIT 2 I just realized/tested and you do NOT necessarily need the BOOT_COMPLETED intent if you make your application a launcher. This means that the <uses-permission>, <receiver>, and BootComplete.java are not needed. You can just use the <intent-filter> that includes the MAIN, HOME, and DEFAULT attributes.
EDIT 3 More/different information available here: Home Launcher issue with Fragments after reboot
Further to the above, which all worked great, and to make sure a comprehensive answer is out there.....
AFAIK, there is no way of overriding the recent apps button.
I got around this by change onPause app behavior to start an alarmmanager. There may be a more elegant solution, but this works.
First, create repeating alarmmanager setupAlarm(seconds)( full details here and here, note I used repeating alarm rather than one off, think both will work though) that starts your activity
then change onPause to set a 2 second alarm, so whenever someone selects the recent apps button on the nav bar, a 2 second 'alarm' to start mainActivity is set.
#Override
public void onPause() {
setupAlarm(2);
finish(); //optional
super.onPause();
}
So with this and the above, any attempt to use the navigation buttons or restart the app results in app starting. So until I get round to investigating the 'kiosk' style roms this is a very good compromise.
I may be a bit late.
But i've found the, in my opinion, best solution for the Recent Apps Button Problem:
#Override
public void onWindowFocusChanged(boolean hasFocus) {
super.onWindowFocusChanged(hasFocus);
if (&& !hasFocus) {
// Close every kind of system dialog
Intent closeDialog = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CLOSE_SYSTEM_DIALOGS);
sendBroadcast(closeDialog);
// send task back to front
ActivityManager activityManager =
(ActivityManager) getApplicationContext().getSystemService(Context.ACTIVITY_SERVICE);
activityManager.moveTaskToFront(getTaskId(), 0);
}
}
The "send task back to front" part will prevent the pull down of the Notification bar by simply sending it back up instantly and will close the Recent Apps View.
The other one is to close the "Shutdown/Restart" View when he tries to shut down his phone.
Now Excuse my English and have a nice Day.
Greetings
Jimmy

Android - How to display a dialog over a native screen?

I was wondering if anyone can tell if how to pop a dialog screen up over a native Android screen?
I currently have an application that traps an outgoing call and stops it, I then want to pop up a dialog that would take over from the dialler screen and alert the user that there attempt to call has been blocked and allow them have some new options from the dialog.
I know that some people will say that I should use notifications instead but I'm aware of that and its not the way that it should work, I need to be able to pop up a dialog when the call gets trapped.
This is my dialog code so far
AlertDialog LDialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(context)
.setTitle("Call Blocked")
.setMessage("Call Blocked, reroute call?")
.setPositiveButton("ok", null).create();
LDialog.show();
I presume I have to somehow get the context to be that of the dialler screen?
Can anyone offer any help and assistance or links to tutorials?
Thanks in advance
For my application I used an activity with the Dialog theme.
You can declare the theme in the manifest file :
<activity android:name="PopupActivity"
android:launchMode="singleInstance" android:excludeFromRecents="true"
android:taskAffinity="" android:theme="#android:style/Theme.Dialog" />
use launcheMode="singleInstance" and taskAffinity="" if your popup is detached from your main application. Otherwise user may click the back button and return to the previous activity of your application.
excludeFromRecents="true" to avoid your popup to appear in recent tasks (long press home)
theme="#android:style/Theme.Dialog" to set the Dialog theme.
How to get the equivalent of launchMode = singleTask in code
I have not seen a clear explanation of how to set these flags programmatically, so I will include my results here. tldr: you have to set FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK and FLAG_ACTIVITY_MULTIPLE_TASK.
If you launch this directly from your app, your dialog will appear on top of your app's last Activity. But if you use a PendingIntent broadcast by AlarmManager to launch your "dialog", you have time to switch to a different app so you can see that your "dialog" will appear over that other app, if the style is set appropriately to show what is behind it.
Obviously one should be responsible about when it is appropriate to display a dialog on top of other apps.
public class MyReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
// you have to set these flags here where you receive the broadcast
// NOT in the code where you created your pendingIntent
Intent scheduledIntent = new Intent(context, AlertAlarmActivity.class);
scheduledIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
scheduledIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_MULTIPLE_TASK);
context.startActivity(scheduledIntent);
