Android Networking with HttpClient takes a lot of time - android

I'm having problem when I try to use HttpCleitn to fetch data from my server it takes a lot of time (about 30sec and response is only a few kB) and it keeps logging a messages: "Skippe xxx frames. App may be doing too much work on its main thread". There just a plenty of these messages (like a 1000 or 2000).
I'm really new to android dev and have no idea what i'm doing wrong. Though all the process of fetching data from the server is held inside the doInBackground method.
Here's all my code
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
ListView videoList;
ArrayList<String> videoArrayList;
ArrayAdapter<String> videoAdapter;
Context context;
String feedUrl = "http://www.rateksib.ru/ios/track_json.php?order=НскС101712124";
#Override

super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
context = this;
videoArrayList = new ArrayList<String>();
videoList = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.videoList);
videoAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.video_list_item, videoArrayList);
videoList.setAdapter(videoAdapter);
VideoListTask loaderTask = new VideoListTask();
loaderTask.execute();
}
#Override

}

try
{
HttpResponse response = client.execute(getRequest);
StatusLine statusLine = response.getStatusLine();
if( statusLine.getStatusCode() != 200 ) {
return null;
}
InputStream jsonStream = response.getEntity().getContent();
BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(jsonStream));
StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder();

}

listview not showing items android

I am have sql DB and I am trying to display queried values in a listView. I created a custom adapter for the listView. problem is
I am not able to see any data displayed on my listView.
code of main

new JSONParse().execute();
MyCustomAdapterSongs itemsAdapter = new MyCustomAdapterSongs(this, listofsoongs);
ListView listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.listView1);
listView.setAdapter(itemsAdapter);
itemsAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
}
private class JSONParse extends AsyncTask<String, String, JSONObject> {

Call itemsAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged() within onPostExecute.
Your list is empty until the AsyncTask finishes there.
You'll have to make the adapter a member variable of the Activity class
As in your code I can see you are updating the list in doInBackground but you are not notifying the adapter for the changes.
In onPostExecute method you need to call itemsAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged() and make sure it you are not calling it inside doInBackground as in background thread you can't to UI related work.
Check the EDITS in this code snippet

Android ListView duplicates data after pressing back button

I have a listview populated by the data from mysql database. It works fine but when I select an item then press back , the previous listview fecth again data from database that duplicates the items in my listview.
Here's is my code :
public class CityPage extends Activity{
Activity context;
HttpPost httppost;
StringBuffer buffer;
HttpResponse response;
HttpClient httpclient;
ProgressDialog pd;
CityAdapter cityAdapter;
ListView listCity;
ArrayList<City> records;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_city_page);
context = this;
records = new ArrayList<City>();
listCity = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.cities);
cityAdapter = new CityAdapter(context, R.layout.city_layout, R.id.city_name, records);
listCity.setAdapter(cityAdapter);
listCity.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
Intent myIntent = new Intent(view.getContext(),City_attractions.class);
Toast.makeText(CityPage.this, "Opening", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
String info1 = records.get(position).getCityName();
String info2 = records.get(position).getDescription();
myIntent.putExtra("info1", info1);
myIntent.putExtra("info2", info2);
startActivity(myIntent);
}
});
}
#Override
protected void onStart() {
super.onStart();
fetchCity fetch = new fetchCity();
fetch.execute();
}

HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity();
// Get our response as a String.
is = entity.getContent();
} catch (Exception e) {
if (pd != null)
pd.dismiss(); //close the dialog if error occurs
Log.e("ERROR", e.getMessage());
}
//convert response to string
try {
BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is, "utf-8"), 8);
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
String line = null;
while ((line = reader.readLine()) != null) {
sb.append(line + "\n");
}
is.close();
result = sb.toString();
} catch (Exception e) {

}
} catch (Exception e) {

}
return null;
}
protected void onPostExecute(Void result) {
if (pd != null) pd.dismiss(); //close dialog
Log.e("size", records.size() + "");
cityAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); //notify the ListView to get new records
}
}
}
try remove those lines from onstart() and put them inside oncreate() function
fetchCity fetch = new fetchCity();
fetch.execute();
Good luck !

Progress Bar not visible with Stand alone asynctask

I am trying to fetch some data from Web Server through JSON. I am using asynctask to do so. Normally it is taking 5-10 seconds to be shown in my ListView.
Hence I want to put spinner progress bar. My code is working fine only problem is the progress bar is not visible.
MyActivity code to call asyntask
try{
JSONObject output = new AsyncTaskJsonParse(this,status, A, B, city).execute().get();
try {
JSONObject output = new AsyncTaskJsonParse(ListViewDisplay.this,status, bgrp, antigen, city).execute().get();
JSONObject src = output.getJSONObject("data");
String flag = output.getString("success");
String flagmsg = output.getString("message");
if (flag == "1") {
JSONArray jarr_name = new JSONArray(src.getString("name"));
JSONArray jarr_fathername = new JSONArray(src.getString("fathername"));
JSONArray jarr_moh = new JSONArray(src.getString("moh"));
JSONArray jarr_city = new JSONArray(src.getString("city"));
JSONArray jarr_phone = new JSONArray(src.getString("phone"));
int n = jarr_name.length();
name_array = new String[n];
fathername_array = new String[n];
moh_array = new String[n];
phone_array = new String[n];
city_array = new String[n];
for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) {
name_array[i] = (String) jarr_name.get(i);
fathername_array[i] = (String) jarr_fathername.get(i);
moh_array[i] = (String) jarr_moh.get(i);
phone_array[i] = (String) jarr_phone.get(i);
city_array[i] = "Vadodara";
Log.d("Inside StringArray", i + "");
}
String msg = src.getString("name");
list = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.listView);
CustomListAdapter custAdaptor = new CustomListAdapter(this, name_array, fathername_array, mohalla_array, city_array, phone_array);
list.setAdapter(custAdaptor);
}else
{
Toast.makeText(this, "Data not found" + flagmsg, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
}catch(ExecutionException e){
// TODO Auto-generated catch block

Standalone asyntask with progressbar code
public class AsyncTaskJsonParse extends AsyncTask<String, String, JSONObject>

private String url = "abc.com/check.php";
List<NameValuePair> param=new ArrayList<NameValuePair>();

super.onPostExecute(result);
//pDialog.dismiss();
if(progress.isShowing())
{

}
progress.dismiss();
}
}
In my log I can see the message "In preexecution Showing 2". And the appliaction is working as expected but the Spinner progressbar is not visible.
Note: I did not add any progressbar component in any xml file. Does i need to add it? if yes then where and how?

I suspect your problem is that your AsyncTask finishes immediately as parse.getJSONFromUrl... is also Async. So whats happening is that progress.dismiss(); in onPostExecute invoked also immediately.
Try removing progress.dismiss(); from onPostExecute and see what happens
This should work. But without the progress.setMessage("Processing...");
You can still set that.
#Override
protected void onPreExecute() {
super.onPreExecute();
dialog = new ProgressDialog(getActivity(),R.style.MyTheme);
dialog.setCancelable(false);
dialog.setProgressStyle(android.R.style.Widget_ProgressBar_Small);
dialog.show();
}

AsyncTask read and return data from URL

I've been having a lot of problems making this code work.
My main activity uses ZXing to scan a barcode, and then I want to take the result of that scan and query my API with it. I know I have to use an AsyncTask to do this, but I've never used one before and I'm having a lot of trouble with it. My goal is to query the API within the AsyncTask, and then update my upcTxt TextView element with the resulting JSON String. What am I supposed to do next in my ReadJSON code?
Here's my main activity code:
public class Barcode extends Activity implements OnClickListener {
private Button scanBtn;
private TextView formatTxt, contentTxt, upcTxt;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_barcode);
scanBtn = (Button)findViewById(R.id.scan_button);
formatTxt = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.scan_format);
contentTxt = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.scan_content);
upcTxt = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.upc);
scanBtn.setOnClickListener(this);
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.barcode, menu);
return true;
}
public void onClick(View v){
//respond to clicks
if(v.getId()==R.id.scan_button){
//scan
IntentIntegrator scanIntegrator = new IntentIntegrator(this);
scanIntegrator.initiateScan();
}
}
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent intent) {
//retrieve scan result
IntentResult scanningResult = IntentIntegrator.parseActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, intent);
if (scanningResult != null) {
//we have a result
String scanResult = scanningResult.getContents();
String scanFormat = scanningResult.getFormatName();
formatTxt.setText("FORMAT: " + scanFormat);
contentTxt.setText("CONTENT: " + scanResult);
new ReadJSON().execute(new String[] {scanResult});
} else {
Toast toast = Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "No scan data received!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG);
toast.show();
}
}}
And here is my ReadJSON code:
public class ReadJSON extends AsyncTask<String, Void, Void> {
private String content;
private TextView upcTxt;
private String url;
#Override
protected Void doInBackground(String... scanResult) {
url = "REDACTED";
content = "";
HttpClient Client = new DefaultHttpClient();
HttpGet httpget = new HttpGet(url + scanResult[0]);
ResponseHandler<String> responseHandler = new BasicResponseHandler();
try {
content = Client.execute(httpget, responseHandler);
// Update upcTxt here
} catch (ClientProtocolException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
return null;
}
}
Thank you in advance.
Update: Whenever I try to run the code on my phone, I can scan the barcode just fine but then the program crashes once it tries to access the URL.

Where can I put code for Asyntask?
Ok, I get sample code, and my code now like this
public class Jadwal_remix extends ListActivity {
String v_date;
JSONArray r_js = null;
ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>> myArray = new ArrayList<HashMap<String,String>>();
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
private class myProses extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> {
ProgressDialog dialog;
protected void onPreExecute() {
dialog = ProgressDialog.show(Jadwal_remix.this, "", "Loading... Please wait", true);
}
protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) {
String status ="";
String date = "";
String result = "";
String url = "http://10.0.2.2/remix/view_list.php";
JSONParser jParser = new JSONParser();
JSONObject json = jParser.AmbilJson(url);
try
{
r_js = json.getJSONArray("view_list");
for (int i =0; i < r_js.length(); i++)
{
String my_array = "";
JSONObject ar = r_js.getJSONObject(i);
status = ar.getString("st");
date = ar.getString("date");
result = ar.getString("result");
if (status.trim().equals("er"))
{
my_array += "Sorry "+result;
HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>();
map.put("result", my_array);
myArray.add(map);
}
else
{
my_array += "Date : "+date+" "+"Result : "+result;
HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>();
map.put("result", my_array);
myArray.add(map);
}
}
}
catch (JSONException e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
return null;
protected void onPostExecute(Void unused) {
adapter_listview();
dialog.dismiss();
}
}
public void adapter_listview() {
ListAdapter adapter = new SimpleAdapter(this, jadwalRemix,R.layout.my_list,new String[] { "result"}, new int[] {R.id.txtResult});
setListAdapter(adapter);
}
}
I'm get problem when server is die, it still loading.
How I can show message ex: can't connect to server?
Working ASyncTask tutorial,
Full ASyncTask Eclipse Project,
and here's some code that I think, when mixed with the above sample, will get you the result with the list that you desire (you'll have to adapt it to your needs a bit, though (pay attention to the list stuff, even though this is from a custom Dialog:
public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(getActivity());
builder.setTitle("Kies Facebook-account");
builder.setNegativeButton("Cancel", this);
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) getActivity().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View dialogLayout = inflater.inflate(R.layout.dialog, null);
builder.setView(dialogLayout);
final String[] items = {"Red", "Green", "Blue" };
builder.setAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(getActivity(), android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, items),
new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
Log.v("touched: ", items[which].toString());
}}
);
return builder.create();
}
