Android Studio Error "Minimum supported Gradle version is 7.0.2. Current version is 6.8."

An error occurred after I downloaded version 6.8 and the latest version of Gradle.
A problem occurred evaluating project ':launcher'.
< Failed to apply plugin 'com.android.internal.version-check'.
<< Minimum supported Gradle version is 7.0.2. Current version is 6.8. If using the gradle wrapper, try editing the distributionUrl...
What do I have to do?
I'm attaching more details in the added pictures.

The error:
Minimum supported Gradle version is 7.0.2. Current version is 6.8.
Likely means:
Your "\gradle"-folder is missing from your project folder:
(Note: Not to be mistaken for the ".gradle"-folder which is a different folder)
Solution:
Get a copy of the "\gradle"-folder from another working project (or create a new project).
Or:
Your "\gradle\wrapper\gradle-wrapper.properties" has an incorrect value in the "distributionUrl=":
Solution:
Change the value in "\gradle\wrapper\gradle-wrapper.properties" to
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-7.0.2-bin.zip
I hade the same problem after moving my project to another computer:
Minimum supported Gradle version is 7.0.2. Current version is 6.8.

Clicking on the "Gradle Settings"-link opened the Gradle settings Window, but the Gradle JDK was already correctly set to version 11:
So my next step was to check the Project Structure:

Now the error points me towards a problem within the "\gradle\wrapper\gradle-wrapper.properties"-file.
Looking into that I found out the real problem - the "\gradle"-folder was completely missing.
(Note: The "\.gradle"-folder is not the same as the "\gradle"-folder)
Copying the "\gradle"-folder from another project solved my problems.
Now my "\gradle\wrapper\gradle-wrapper.properties"-file looks like this:

Next update the Gradle Version in Android Studio select invalidate cache and restart solve the issue.
Go to Menu File->Invalidate cache..-> Invalidate and Restart.

Go to gradle wrapper properties
In the distribution url line change gradle version from 6.5 to 7.0.2 or the current version when you see this

The error says that the gradle version in your system is less than your project's gradle verion. That's the reason why it is unable to compile your project.
System gradle version < Project's gradle version
So there are 2 solutions here,
Change the distribution URL in the gradle-wrapper.properties file in the android/gradle/wrapper directory to distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-7.0.2-bin.zip.
Update your gradle plugin. If you use some environment variable, download the latest verion from Gradle | Manual Installation and replace it with your current one. Don't forget to update the path variable in system properties.

Could not determine the class-path for interface com.android.builder.model.AndroidProject

When I import an Eclipse project into Android Studio, I got this problem:
Gradle 'XNote' project refresh failed
Error:Could not determine the class-path for interface com.android.builder.model.AndroidProject.

1.Check classpath in build.gradle file.
change to
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.3.0'
then go to gradle-wrapper.properties, and change distributionUrl

and then rebuild the project. its help for me...

I have solved this problem.
Google doesn't update ADT any more, so when Eclipse export a project to gradle, it use an old gradle plugin version that Android Studio doesn't support.
First, you should check the version of gradle plugin that you have installed.
Open Android Studio's installation directory,then open the directory \gradle\m2repository\com\android\tools\build\gradle\, you will see all version you have installed.
Then open Android Studio, open tab 'Project -> Gradle Scripts', Edit file build.gradle, change the gradle plugin to newest version you have installed, such as 2.3.0:
[OPTIONAL] This step is not necessary, but if you do not do this, you may see this problem:
A problem occurred evaluating root project 'XXX'.
> org/gradle/initialization/BuildCompletionListener
Check the newest version of gradle you have installed at C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\.gradle\wrapper\dists.
Then open tab 'Project -> Gradle Scripts', edit file gradle-wrapper.properties, modify the gradle version(attention: gradle, NOT gradle plugin) to the newest at the last line.
Finally, click Build - Clean Project, done!
If it still warning "Gradle project sync failed...", just click Try Again!

Just Update two things:-
1) Update your Build.gradle to

I got it working after upgrading build tools to version 25.0.0 in build.gradle:
buildToolsVersion '25.0.0'
And change project to use newest gradle version 3.3 with default gradle wrapper (File -> Settings -> Gradle)

In my case I removed folder .idea from the project and then restarting the studio automatically manages to all the required folder and gradle work.

First, delete your .gradle folder in the home directory then restart Android Studio.

Palanivelraghul was right. A Studio has to download the old version. Then it presented 3 different options after it was complete.
Choose the top option ~"Sync with 3.0.1".
Event Log:
Gradle sync started > Project setup started > Gradle sync finished > Executing tasks:
[:app:generateDebugSources, :app:generateDebugAndroidTestSources, :app:mockableAndroidJar] > Gradle build finished.

Downgrade Gradle from 3.3 to 2.14.1

Long story short: My android phone keeps disconnecting from ADB. I was told to update android studio, did that. I open my project in Intellij and try to run on android and I get an error:
BUILD FAILED
Total time: 48.986 secs
Error: /Users/me/Desktop/comp/Development/comp-ionic/platforms/android/gradlew: Command failed with exit code 1 Error output:
FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.
* What went wrong:

My first thought is that my gradle is the wrong version. For this specific app, I need to use gradle version 2.14.1.
When I type gradle -v I'm getting version 3.3.
Is there a way to delete/downgrade gradle from 3.3 to 2.14.1?
Or is this another problem?

If you're using the gradle wrapper, then there'll be a folder in your project named "gradle" with a subfolder named "wrapper", inside that, there are 2 files:
- gradle-wrapper.jar
- gradle-wrapper.properties
Open "gradle-wrapper.properties" and change the place where it says "3.3" to "2.14.1". Then sync gradle, and it will automatically download 2.14.1.
If you're using the new 2.3 Android Studio, you HAVE to use gradle wrapper 3.3, as its the minimum supported gradle wrapper version. If so, then you'll have to download Android Studio 2.2, or fix whatever issue you have in your project that needs gradle wrapper version 2.14.1.
To get more information about whatever the issue is, try running this:
./gradlew clean assemble -stacktrace
That will clean your project, try and compile it, and if/when it fails, it will show you a stacktrace of the error.

What you should do is to change the gradle build tools version to the one that matches your gradle version. According to here you can set the gradle to 2.14.1 by changing build tools to lower than 1.0.0.

Notice: if you keep checking the mentioned link you'll see Higher is better for gradle.

For me, Android Studio > File > Invalidate Caches / Restart did the trick.

I got the same problem when upgrading to Android Studio 2.3.1. There is something funky about Gradle 3.3 (It fails by "java.lang.NullPointerException: null value in entry: destinationDir=null at com.google.common.collect.CollectPreconditions.checkEntryNotNull(CollectPreconditions.java:33)").
Good news: seems like the current most recent version (3.5) works.
Go to File|Project Structure|Project, and use these versions:
Gradle version=3.5
Android Plugin version=2.3.1

I update the Android Studio version to 3.3 Canary 4, then update the gradle plugin, and the project stops working.
I do not know how to restore my AS to the previous state, nighter the gradle plugin.
But just with this command, the project now works, for me: gradlew clean assemble -stacktrace, in terminal tab in AS.

"Gradle Version 2.10 is required." Error

As I've been using

In the build.gradle file, I got the following error since gradle version 2.10 has been released.
The error is :

at first it looks easy to solve by the guide, but when I'd done the change, I got the error again.
I'm using Android Studio 2.0 with the latest Android SDK Tools 24.4.1 and Android SDK Build Tools 23.0.2
I've even tried to download Gradle 2.10 and put it manually on android-studio\gradle\ folder, but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to change File > Settings > Builds,Execution,Deployment > Build Tools > Gradle >Gradle home path
On Mac OS, change the path in Android Studio > Preferences > Builds,Execution,Deployment > Build Tools > Gradle >Gradle home

For people who are using Ionic/Cordova framework, we need to change the distributionUrl in GradleBuilder.js file to var distributionUrl = process.env['CORDOVA_ANDROID_GRADLE_DISTRIBUTION_URL'] || 'http\\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.10-all.zip';
The GradleBuilder.js locates at project/platforms/android/cordova/lib/builders/GradleBuilder.js

First Check your Project-level settings at
File > Settings > Build, Executions, Deployment > Build Tools > Gradle
and Select the Option :
Use default gradle wrapper (recommended)
then go to Project's
Gradle > wrapper > gradle-wrapper.properties
and edit version of the distributionUrl

For Android studio v2.1
Follow these easy steps from images.
Go "File" and click "Project structure".
Then select "Project" from left menu and then change "Gradle version" to the version your sdk manager has installed. In my case it is 2.10 so i change version to 2.10 and then click on "Ok". And then android studio automatically do gradle sync again and error was fixed.

Easiest way for me to fix this issue:
close IDE.
delete "gradle" folder
re-open project.

I encountered the same issue before.
In the end, the problem is that you use terminal; it uses system config.
check it, whether you have set
"GRADLE_HOME=.\gradle-2.10"

For those who uses ionic, go to [project name]/platforms/android/cordova/lib/builders/GradleBuilder.js on line 164 you will see the following: var distributionUrl = process.env['CORDOVA_ANDROID_GRADLE_DISTRIBUTION_URL'] || 'http\\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.13-all.zip';This line is used to create your gradle-wrapper.properties, so any changes to the gradle-wrapper.properties wont matter. All you need to do is change the url to the latest version, sync the gradle and the problem is solved.
Just want to change the gradle version in the Android studio, go to File>settings>project and change the gradle version. After you apply, it will sync the project and you are ready to build.

Important:
If you are getting this when you run:
gradle build
from command line you have to use:
gradlew build
instead so that you will use gradle wrapper to downloaded the appropriate gradle version needed by the app.
When you execute gradle build you are using the global gradle installed on your system.

Go to File -> Settings -> Build, Execution, Deployment -> Gradle -> choose Use default gradle wrapper

My problem maybe is different,so I just wanna tell somebody who may have the same problem as me.
I solved this problem by change Terminal path.
when I run gradle clean, the error come cross "Gradle version 2.10 is required. Current version is 2.2.1".
I checked .gradle directory in my project, there are two versions in it: 2.2.1, 2.10.
when I run gradle -v, it shows my current version is 2.2.1.
I change my system environment GRADLE_HOME to 2.10 root directory, then I restart terminal in AS and run 'gradle -v', it still shows the current verision is 2.2.1.
open setting -> terminal change the cmd.exe path to the System32/cmd.exe.
then restart terminal, run gradle clean,everything is fine.

You need to change Prefrences > Builds,Execution,Deployment > Build Tools > Gradle >Gradle home path

I had Android Studio version 1.5.1 installed and was running into this error. I have the following buildscript (which was working on Ubuntu but not Windows):

Use local distribution and linked to downloaded gradle 2.2.1 binary
None of these solutions worked unfortunately. It should be worth noting that upgrading Android Studio from 1.5.1 to 2.1.1 also failed with errors about 2.10 missing so could not be performed.
Solution: What I ended up doing was simply downloaded the latest stable version of Android Studio and installing that instead (2.1.1 at the time). After doing that gradle synced succesfully

What worked for me on Mint 17.03 which is base off Ubuntu 14.04
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cwchien/gradle
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gradle
Reopen Android Studio. Go to Run/Debug Configuration and there should be an icon saying you need to Update gradle. Just click it.

I had the same problem and no answer in stackoverflow helped. But I found the issue in my project. It was because my .gitignore file contained these lines:
# Package Files #
*.jar
*.war
*.ear
and that is why git did not upload the MyProject\gradle\wrapper\gradle-wrapper.jar file to remote. So, I added this line to .gitignore:
!/gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.jar
Make sure you had this line too. At least this solved my problem

In Terminal type gradlew clean. it will automatically download and install gradle version 2.10(ie latest gradle verson available)
Eg : C:\android\workspace\projectname>gradlew clean

this work for me.
create a new project in android studio. Open project setting and copy the local gradle path. now open the project having gradle problem and paste that url and select local path.
click apply problem will get solved.

Some cases it does not work-out because there is no problem in your project gradle or android-studio.
Step 1:
Minimum supported Gradle version is 2.14.1. Current version is 2.11. If using the gradle wrapper, try editing the distributionUrl
Check gradle version in your system gradle -version
Older version upgrade gradle version brew install gradle
Step 2
Go to android-studio-> Preference-> Build,Execution,Deployment-> Gradle

Step 3
Check distributionUrl in gradle-wrapper.properties
Upgrade if older version.
Clean Project

I had to upgrade my version of Cordova to support the latest version of Gradle. Updating the distributionUrl in GradleBuilder.js didn't work for me.

if your has this error that "supported Gradle version is 2.14.1. Current version is 2.4. ", on terminal. means your should update your gradle.
On Mac OS: you can use brew upgrade gradle

In my case the problem was indeed in the distributionURL in gradle-wrapper.properties file and Android Studio auto-fixed inserting
distributionUrl=https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-4.0-20170417000025+0000-all.zip
But this was a wrong URL. The correct one is
distributionUrl=https://services.gradle.org/distributions-snapshots/gradle-4.0-20170417000025+0000-all.zip
Apparently the url changed in gradle's API but not in Android Studio so fixing it by hand solved the problem for me.

Download the latest gradle-3.3-all.zip from

2.open in android studio file ->settings ->gradle
3.open the path and paste the downloaded zip folder gradle-3.3 in that folder

Gradle error: could not execute build using gradle distribution

After I updated Android Studio to version 0.2.7, I got the following error:

I had the same issue, can't say I know what caused it, but I just closed Android Studio, renamed the c:\users\MY USERNAME\.gradle directory to old-.gradle and then re-launched Android Studio.
Android studio then re-created the directory and automatically downloaded the gradle zip file and set it all up.
Seems to all be fine but to be honest I don't know what this directory is nor what the root cause of the problem was either, so proceed with caution and keep the old .gradle folder around for a bit until you're happy all is working fine.

For me the following two steps fixed the issue:
Make sure the Gradle build was successful
Android Studio - File - Invalidate Caches / Restart...

I suddenly had this issue in the morning after it working the night before. I tried all solutions here and failed.
I also tried installing another version of Gradle 1.8 and setting the gradle_home.
Tried restarting studio.
Eventually the tried and trusted method of restarting Windows worked for me.
All in all a frustrating waste of time.

I updated to 0.3.0 and had the same issue. I had to end up changing my Gradle version to classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:0.6.1+' and in build.gradle and also changing the distributionUrl to distributionUrl=http\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-1.8-bin.zip in the gradle-wrapper.properties file. Then I did a local import of the Gradle file. That worked for me.

I had this issue as well and jaywhy13 answer was good but not enough.
I had to change a setting: Settings -> Gradle -> MyProject
There you need to check the "auto import" and select "use customizable gradle wrapper". After that it should refresh gradle and you can build again. If not try a reboot of Android Studio.

First of all, JDK environment variable settings :
e.g) JAVA_HOME -> C:\develop\java\jdk\jdk1.8.0_25
path -> %JAVA_HOME%\bin;
eclipse
Window -> preferences -> Gradle -> Arguments -> Worksapce JRE check -> jdk(jdk1.8.0_25) choice
again Run -> gradle build :)

1- delete .gradle folder in the root directory of the app
2- invalidate cache and restart

As per answer by WarrenFaith, go to:
Settings -> Gradle -> Project-level settings
Change to Use customizable gradle wrapper.
Click OK and watch it build. If you still get an error at that stage, go back to:
Settings -> Gradle -> Project-level settings
Change it back to Use default gradle wrapper (recommended)
Click OK. That fixed it for me.

I had the same issue and i solved it by deleteing gradle-wrapper.jar and gradle-wrapper.properties file of Gradle wrapper then clean rebuild work for me.

I entered:
[C:\Users\user\].gradle\caches\1.8\scripts directory and deleted its content.
I didn't had to restart anything, just removed scripts content any rerun it.

For me, when using IntelliJ IDEA, this error arose because I had the Java SDK, rather than an Android SDK, set at the Project level.
My fix:
IntelliJ > File > Project Structure ...
Project > Project SDK > [Select] 'Android API 19 Platform (java version "1.7.0_40")'

I had the same problem on Ubuntu with Eclipse 4.3 (Kepler) and the problem was that I created the project with a minus-sign in it.
I recreated the project with no specialchars and it all worked fine

I had the same Gradle build problems in Eclipse and by doing the following steps, the problems were solved:
set up project to use correct java version of java
project properties-> java build path -> jre system (edit the current one, and add the correct java jdk or jre there)
window->Preferences ->Gradle->Arguments-> Workspace JRE (set to the correct one)
Hope this will help those who have the same problems.

This happened to me after a java update, few things to check if you are sure your path has been set before:
if the path doesn't match the latest java install folder, change it (if your in eclipse check the eclipse.ini too to make sure your using your systems default vm (ie no VM tag) )
go to the java directory, there should be a 'jdk' and a 'jre' in the path, for example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.8.0_72\jre
if not you probably installed the JRE only not the JDK that
finally if the lib folder of the jdk (not jre) doesnt contain tools.jar then you have a problem with the install

I had a similar problem after doing brew install gradle. Perhaps it was because it was an older version. So I uninstalled and instead followed the gradle website's install instructions and then when I did gradle eclipse I no longer had the could not execute build using gradle distribution error.

This problem occurred to me when I edited the configurations in Android Studio to use the Desktop. However, using the default(android) seems to work well without any issues.

To correct this mistake very easily,
If you read logs. The problem occurs because of the sudden shutdown of the IDEA. And the log files do not correctly write data. Just delete the file on the path
C:/Users/{UserName}/.Gradle/demon/{gradleVersion}/registry.bin.lock.
