How to compress image while taking images from gallery - android

I want to take to photo from and save it to sdcard and after that when it comes to images from gallery its size should be compressed so that images should be fit image view and no error of out memory error and easily goes to other activity
thanks

Try this ; it may help you..
public class bitmaptest extends Activity {
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) {
super.onCreate(icicle);
LinearLayout linLayout = new LinearLayout(this);
// load the origial BitMap (500 x 500 px)
Bitmap bitmapOrg = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(),
R.drawable.android);
int width = bitmapOrg.width();
int height = bitmapOrg.height();
int newWidth = 200;
int newHeight = 200;
// calculate the scale - in this case = 0.4f
float scaleWidth = ((float) newWidth) / width;
float scaleHeight = ((float) newHeight) / height;
// createa matrix for the manipulation
Matrix matrix = new Matrix();
// resize the bit map
matrix.postScale(scaleWidth, scaleHeight);
// rotate the Bitmap
matrix.postRotate(45);
// recreate the new Bitmap
Bitmap resizedBitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(bitmapOrg, 0, 0,
width, height, matrix, true);
// make a Drawable from Bitmap to allow to set the BitMap
// to the ImageView, ImageButton or what ever
BitmapDrawable bmd = new BitmapDrawable(resizedBitmap);
ImageView imageView = new ImageView(this);
// set the Drawable on the ImageView
imageView.setImageDrawable(bmd);
// center the Image
imageView.setScaleType(ScaleType.CENTER);
// add ImageView to the Layout
linLayout.addView(imageView,
new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(
LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT
)
);
// set LinearLayout as ContentView
setContentView(linLayout);
}
}
And also you can check with Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(yourimage, 160, 160, true);

you can add following code in your project to compress image from path
you just need to pass image path that you have chosen from gallery
public static String compressImage(Context context,String imageUri) {
String filePath = getRealPathFromURI(imageUri,context);
Bitmap scaledBitmap = null;
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
// by setting this field as true, the actual bitmap pixels are not loaded in the memory. Just the bounds are loaded. If
// you try the use the bitmap here, you will get null.
options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(filePath, options);
int actualHeight = options.outHeight;
int actualWidth = options.outWidth;
// max Height and width values of the compressed image is taken as 816x612
float maxWidth,maxHeight;
//if the image has width>height, we'll want the final image to be somewhere in the dimension of 720x1280
//if the image has width>height, we'll want the final image to be of 1280x720
//if the image has width=height(square), we'll want the final image to be of 1280x1280
if(actualHeight>actualWidth){
maxHeight = Constants.maxHeightFloat;
maxWidth = Constants.maxWidthFloat;
}else if(actualWidth>actualHeight){

}else {

// setting inSampleSize value allows to load a scaled down version of the original image

Android, how to reduce the size of a bitmap?

I have an app that allows the user to change their profile image to another one that is stored on their device. For this, the app sends the selected image to a remote server. All this works well, so I do not put the code of that part so as not to complicate the question. My problem is that I want that bitmap sent to the server is reduced in size to prevent, for example, large files of five or six megabytes, which slow down the app. But it does not end well.
This is my code for this:
if (requestCode == 1 && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
Uri selectedImageUri = data.getData();
imagepath = getPath(selectedImageUri);
Bitmap bitmap=BitmapFactory.decodeFile(imagepath);
ByteArrayOutputStream bytearrayoutputstream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
//Resize the bitmap
Bitmap resizedBitmap = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(bitmap, 150, 150, false);
resizedBitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG,50,bytearrayoutputstream);
//Round the image
int min = Math.min(resizedBitmap.getWidth(), resizedBitmap.getHeight());
Bitmap bitmapRounded = Bitmap.createBitmap(min, min, resizedBitmap.getConfig());
Canvas canvas = new Canvas(bitmapRounded);
Paint paint = new Paint();
paint.setAntiAlias(true);
paint.setShader(new BitmapShader(resizedBitmap, Shader.TileMode.CLAMP, Shader.TileMode.CLAMP));
canvas.drawRoundRect((new RectF(0.0f, 0.0f, min, min)), min / 2, min / 2, paint);
//bitmap to imageView
avatar.setImageBitmap(bitmapRounded);
}
I trying to reduce it in size (it does not work) and then round the image (this works fine) before adjusting it to the corresponding ImageView.
The only thing that I can not get it to work properly is to reduce the size of the bitmap.
i am using this to reduce my bitmap size and it is woring fine :-
ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 40, baos);
If you want to make your image smaller, you need to first get the height and width of your bitmap, calculate the ratio and then can create a scaled bitmap.
int width = image.getWidth();
int height = image.getHeight();
You have to calculate the image size and return the scaled bitmap.
Find a similar question asked in here: Reduce the size of a bitmap to a specified size in Android
Hope you will get the exact solution.
Try this:
ByteArrayOutputStream ostream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 80, ostream);

Resize image from Camera and store it on card

I need to enable user to Take picture and save it locally in folder. I'm doing that but image size is too large. Later on i will need to upload that image on server and I would like to know what is best way to optimise it's size. Current image size is not bellow 3MB
This is my code for taking image:
public void takePicture() {
Intent imageIntent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
String timeStamp = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMdd_HHmmss").format(new Date());
File imagesFolder = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "MyScore");
File image = new File(imagesFolder, "QR_" + timeStamp + ".jpg");
Uri uriSavedImage = Uri.fromFile(image);
imageIntent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, uriSavedImage);
startActivityForResult(imageIntent, CAPTURE_IMAGE_ACTIVITY_REQUEST_CODE);
}
#Override
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
}
What magic should I do here
#Override
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
}

compressed image looks hazy android

I am using Whatsapp like image compression code for compressing the image taken from my custom camera.
The image after compressed looks hazy (little faded out) , looks like it has loosen its quality along with the size
Compress.java
public Bitmap compressImage(String imageUri) {
String filePath = getRealPathFromURI(imageUri);
Bitmap scaledBitmap = null;
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
// by setting this field as true, the actual bitmap pixels are not loaded in the memory. Just the bounds are loaded. If

Any solution to this ?
I think your camera image is already compressed. So Set high quality image capture in your custom camera , because above compression code worked fine ,I have tested it.
One thing you can change in above solution is the hardcoded values for width and height of scaled down image. Try to write a function to store the phone's width and height in pixels whenever the app starts in your app's SharedPreferences. In the code where you set the width and height of scaled down bitmap, just use these values. It will ensure that the image is being displayed at best scale according to the device's hardware specifications without causing any Out of Memory exceptions and giving the best possible compression.

Android how to reduce image size without loosing quality

I am uploading an image to the server. I want to reduce size of image up to 200KB. how to do this in android.
You can do this by using Bitmap.compress() method. Here is a sample code which shows how you can achieve the same:
Code to scale Image as Aspect ratio:
Bitmap bitmapImage = BitmapFactory.decodeFile("Your path");
int nh = (int) ( bitmapImage.getHeight() * (512.0 / bitmapImage.getWidth()) );
Bitmap scaled = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(bitmapImage, 512, nh, true);
your_imageview.setImageBitmap(scaled);
Compress your image without losing quality like in Whatsapp:
public String compressImage(String imageUri) {
String filePath = getRealPathFromURI(imageUri);
Bitmap scaledBitmap = null;
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
// by setting this field as true, the actual bitmap pixels are not loaded in the memory. Just the bounds are loaded. If
// you try the use the bitmap here, you will get null.
options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(filePath, options);
int actualHeight = options.outHeight;
int actualWidth = options.outWidth;
// max Height and width values of the compressed image is taken as 816x612
float maxHeight = 816.0f;
float maxWidth = 612.0f;
float imgRatio = actualWidth / actualHeight;
float maxRatio = maxWidth / maxHeight;
// width and height values are set maintaining the aspect ratio of the image
if (actualHeight > maxHeight || actualWidth > maxWidth) {
if (imgRatio < maxRatio) {
imgRatio = maxHeight / actualHeight;
actualWidth = (int) (imgRatio * actualWidth);
actualHeight = (int) maxHeight;
} else if (imgRatio > maxRatio) {
imgRatio = maxWidth / actualWidth;
actualHeight = (int) (imgRatio * actualHeight);
actualWidth = (int) maxWidth;
} else {
actualHeight = (int) maxHeight;
actualWidth = (int) maxWidth;
}
}
// setting inSampleSize value allows to load a scaled down version of the original image

How to reduce image size while taking from gallery through imagepath

I want to take image from camera and also take from gallery that part i did .
when i take images from one activity to other through image path it show memory out error on taking fourth image ,so i want to take image from gallery and when i take image from gallery it should be compressed so it should not have out of memory error byte allocation.
thanks.
Here is my code can anybody help in this
imageview1=(ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image1);
imageview2=(ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image2);
imageview3=(ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image3);
imageview4=(ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image4);
Bitmap b = (Bitmap) getIntent().getParcelableExtra("data") ;
SharedPreferences preferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
locationname = preferences.getString("Location", "Location");
SharedPreferences preferences1 = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
categoryname = preferences1.getString("categoryname", "categoryname");
SharedPreferences imagepath1 = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
selectedImagePath1 = imagepath1.getString("picturePath1", "picturePath1");
SharedPreferences imagepath2 = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
selectedImagePath2 = imagepath2.getString("picturePath2", "picturePath2");

Bitmap thumbnail4 = (BitmapFactory.decodeFile(selectedImagePath4));

thumbnail4.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 90, stream3);
imageview1.setImageBitmap(thumbnail1);
thumbnail1.recycle();
imageview2.setImageBitmap(thumbnail2);
imageview3.setImageBitmap(thumbnail3 );
imageview4.setImageBitmap(thumbnail4);
it happens because of image size. you have to resize or compress images. below code will help you for that. use as per your needed:
public static Bitmap loadResizedBitmap( String filename, int width, int height, boolean exact ) {
Bitmap bitmap = null;
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
BitmapFactory.decodeFile( filename, options );
if ( options.outHeight > 0 && options.outWidth > 0 ) {
options.inJustDecodeBounds = false;
options.inSampleSize = 2;
while ( options.outWidth / options.inSampleSize > width
&& options.outHeight / options.inSampleSize > height ) {
options.inSampleSize++;
}
options.inSampleSize--;
bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile( filename, options );
if ( bitmap != null && exact ) {
bitmap = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap( bitmap, width, height, false );
}
}
return bitmap;
}
OR
public static int calculateInSampleSize(
BitmapFactory.Options options, int reqWidth, int reqHeight) {
// Raw height and width of image
final int height = options.outHeight;
final int width = options.outWidth;
int inSampleSize = 1;
if (height > reqHeight || width > reqWidth) {
final int halfHeight = height / 2;
final int halfWidth = width / 2;
// Calculate the largest inSampleSize value that is a power of 2 and keeps both
// height and width larger than the requested height and width.
while ((halfHeight / inSampleSize) > reqHeight
&& (halfWidth / inSampleSize) > reqWidth) {
inSampleSize *= 2;
}
}
return inSampleSize;
}
Try below code:-
public String compressImage(String imageUri) {
String filePath = getRealPathFromURI(imageUri);
Bitmap scaledBitmap = null;
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
// by setting this field as true, the actual bitmap pixels are not loaded in the memory. Just the bounds are loaded. If
// you try the use the bitmap here, you will get null.
options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(filePath, options);
int actualHeight = options.outHeight;
int actualWidth = options.outWidth;
// max Height and width values of the compressed image is taken as 816x612

float maxWidth = 612.0f;
float imgRatio = actualWidth / actualHeight;
float maxRatio = maxWidth / maxHeight;
// width and height values are set maintaining the aspect ratio of the image

actualWidth = (int) maxWidth;
} else {
actualHeight = (int) maxHeight;

}
// setting inSampleSize value allows to load a scaled down version of the original image

// this options allow android to claim the bitmap memory if it runs low on memory

in android, each bitmap that is loaded to memory, get "width*height*4 bytes" of memory size.
so you should bring an smaller bitmap to memory.
