i want to do for user interface which will look like tiles in windows 8. I have something like this:
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dip"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_weight="1" >
<Button
android:id="#+id/button"
android:layout_width="0dip"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:background="#drawable/exit"/>
<Button
android:id="#+id/button2"
android:layout_width="0dip"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
</LinearLayout>
and the second button when is pressed is change a little bit. It is a little bit darker. How do the same for my button where is image background?
You need to set different drawables for each pressed state.
For example, if the normal state image is normal.png and pressed is pressed.png, disabled is disabled.png, focused is focused.png, disabled and focused is disabled_focused.png (doesn't have to be an image - it can be a shape, or whatever):
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item
android:state_window_focused="false"
android:state_enabled="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/normal" />
<item
android:state_window_focused="false"
android:state_enabled="false"
android:drawable="#drawable/disabled" />
<item
android:state_pressed="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/pressed" />
<item
android:state_focused="true"
android:state_enabled="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/focused" />
<item
android:state_enabled="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/normal" />
<item
android:state_focused="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/disabled_focused" />
<item
android:drawable="#drawable/disabled" />
</selector>
and if the file name the selector is in is called tile.xml, you can now use android:background="#drawable/tile".
do you want to change the button background when it is clicked???
if that is your intention (im sorry it was a bit unclear from the question) you can add a selector as the button background and customise the button as you wish.
add a new xml file custom_button.xml to your drawable and set it as the background of the button : android:background="#drawable/custom_button"
you can change the colors start and end for the different button modes as you like
this is an example of a custom button xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true" >
<shape>
<gradient
android:startColor="#color/yellow1"
android:endColor="#color/yellow2"
android:angle="270" />
<stroke
android:width="3dp"
android:color="#color/Transparent" />
<corners
android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item android:state_focused="true" >
<shape>
<gradient
android:endColor="#color/orange4"
android:startColor="#color/orange5"
android:angle="270" />
<stroke
android:width="3dp"
android:color="#color/Transparent" />
<corners
android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item>
<shape>
<gradient
android:endColor="#color/GreenYellow"
android:startColor="#color/Green"
android:angle="270" />
<stroke
android:width="3dp"
android:color="#color/Transparent" />
<corners
android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>

I have an XML file called playnext. I added this file as a background to my button.XML include two images that is for button press and button release.I need to add border to these two images using the XML.
XML code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="false" android:drawable="#drawable/ic_remote_playnext" ></item>
<item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="#drawable/next_pressdown" ></item>
</selector>
Please tell me how to add a border to this? Is there is any other way to add borders to button?
make a drawable xml as selector
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true" >
<shape>
<solid
android:color="yoursolidcolor for state pressed" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#171717" />
<corners
android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:left="5dp"
android:top="5dp"
android:right="5dp"
android:bottom="5dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item>
<shape>
<solid
android:color="#yoursolidcolor for default" />
<stroke
android:width="0dp"
android:color="#171717" />
<corners
android:radius="4dp" />
<padding
android:left="5dp"
android:top="5dp"
android:right="5dp"
android:bottom="5dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</selector>
Then
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#drawable/youraboveselectoe"
android:textColor="#color/white"
android:text="Button"/>
you can also check on this
Is it possible to specify border in android button?
Please add the following code in drawable xml and call the this xml like using
android:background="#drawable/border"
border.xml
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:exitFad eDuration="#integer/short_anim_time">
<item android:drawable="#color/orange" android:state_pressed="true" />
<item android:drawable="#color/white" android:state_focused="true" />
<item android:drawable="#color/white" />
<item>
<shape>
<stroke android:width="2dp" android:color="#color/orange" />
<padding android:bottom="#dimen/gap" android:left="#dimen/gap" android:right="#dimen/gap" android:top="#dimen/gap" />
</shape>
</item>
I want to develop custom spinner like line around spinner with triangle at right bottom corner.
like following image
For above fig I wrote my custom spinner like a
spinner.xml
<Spinner android:background="#drawable/spinner_background"/>
spinner_background.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<item android:state_pressed="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_ab_pressed_new_theme_bs">
<shape>
<solid
android:color="#color/White" />
<corners android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:bottom="10dp"
android:left="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:top="10dp" />
<stroke
android:width="2dp"
android:color="#color/skyblue" />
</shape>
</item>
<!-- spinner_ab_default_new_theme_bs -> this image for corner triangle -->
<item
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_ab_default_new_theme_bs" >
<shape>
<solid
android:color="#color/White">
</solid>
<corners android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:bottom="10dp"
android:left="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:top="10dp" />
<stroke
android:width="2dp"
android:color="#color/gray"/>
</shape>
</item>
And I got output like following image
I tried lot but not achieve my goal please anybody have solution to develop spinner.
like above first one image.
Spinner
<Spinner
android:id="#+id/To_Units"
style="#style/spinner_style" />
style.xml
<style name="spinner_style">
<item name="android:layout_width">match_parent</item>
<item name="android:layout_height">wrap_content</item>
<item name="android:background">#drawable/gradient_spinner</item>
<item name="android:layout_margin">10dp</item>
<item name="android:paddingLeft">8dp</item>
<item name="android:paddingRight">20dp</item>
<item name="android:paddingTop">5dp</item>
<item name="android:paddingBottom">5dp</item>
<item name="android:popupBackground">#DFFFFFFF</item>
</style>
gradient_spinner.xml (in drawable folder)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item><layer-list>
<item><shape>
<gradient android:angle="90" android:endColor="#B3BBCC" android:startColor="#E8EBEF" android:type="linear" />
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#000000" />
<corners android:radius="4dp" />
<padding android:bottom="3dp" android:left="3dp" android:right="3dp" android:top="3dp" />
</shape></item>
<item ><bitmap android:gravity="bottom|right" android:src="#drawable/spinner_arrow" />
</item>
</layer-list></item>
</selector>
#drawable/spinner_arrow is your bottom right corner image
This is a simple one.
your_layout.xml
<android.support.v7.widget.AppCompatSpinner
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#drawable/spinner_background"
/>
In the drawable folder, spinner_background.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item><layer-list>
<item>
<shape>
<solid
android:color="#color/colorWhite">
</solid>
<corners android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:bottom="10dp"
android:left="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:top="10dp" />
<stroke
android:width="2dp"
android:color="#color/colorDarkGrey"/>
</shape>
</item>
<item >
<bitmap android:gravity="bottom|right"
android:src="#drawable/ic_arrow_drop_down_black_24dp" />
</item>
</layer-list></item>
</selector>
Preview:
You can achieve the following by using a single line in your spinner declaration in XML:
Just add this: style="#android:style/Widget.Holo.Light.Spinner"
This is a default generated style in android. It doesn't contain borders around it though. For that you'd better search something on google.
Hope this helps.
UPDATE:
AFter a lot of digging I got something which works well for introducing border around spinner.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item
android:bottom="8dp"
android:top="8dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/white" />
<corners android:radius="4dp" />
<stroke
android:width="2dp"
android:color="#9E9E9E" />
<padding
android:bottom="16dp"
android:left="8dp"
android:right="16dp"
android:top="16dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
Place this in the drawable folder and use it as a background for spinner. Like this:
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/speaker_relative_layout"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="70dp"
android:layout_marginEnd="8dp"
android:layout_marginLeft="8dp"
android:layout_marginRight="8dp"
android:layout_marginStart="8dp"
android:layout_marginTop="16dp"
android:background="#drawable/spinner_style"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent">
<Spinner
android:id="#+id/select_speaker_spinner"
style="#style/Widget.AppCompat.DropDownItem.Spinner"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="70dp"
android:entries="#array/select_speaker_spinner_array"
android:spinnerMode="dialog" />
</RelativeLayout>
If you don't prefer to create multiple XML files, try:
<com.google.android.material.card.MaterialCardView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:strokeWidth="1dp"
app:strokeColor="#color/black"
app:cardCornerRadius="4dp">
<androidx.appcompat.widget.AppCompatSpinner
android:id="#+id/spinner"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="20dp"/>
</com.google.android.material.card.MaterialCardView>
To change the border color:
app:strokeColor="YOUR_COLOR_HERE"
To change the border's width:
app:strokeWidth="YOUR_DP_WIDTH_HERE"
There are two ways to achieve this.
1- As already proposed u can set the background of your spinner as custom 9 patch Image with all the adjustments made into it .
android:background="#drawable/btn_dropdown"
android:clickable="true"
android:dropDownVerticalOffset="-10dip"
android:dropDownHorizontalOffset="0dip"
android:gravity="center"
If you want your Spinner to show With various different background colors i would recommend making the drop down image transparent, & loading that spinner in a relative layout with your color set in.
btn _dropdown is as:
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item
android:state_window_focused="false" android:state_enabled="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_default" />
<item
android:state_window_focused="false" android:state_enabled="false"
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_default" />
<item
android:state_pressed="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_pressed" />
<item
android:state_focused="true" android:state_enabled="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_pressed" />
<item
android:state_enabled="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_default" />
<item
android:state_focused="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_pressed" />
<item
android:drawable="#drawable/spinner_default" />
</selector>
where the various states of pngwould define your various States of spinner seleti
To change only "background" (add corners, change color, ....) you can put it into FrameLayout with wanted background drawable, else you need to make nine patch background for to not lose spinner arrow. Spinner background is transparent.
You could design a simple nine-patch png image and use it as the background of spinner. Using GIMP you can put both border and right triangle in image.
It's super easy you can just add this to your Adapter -> getDropDownView
getDropDownView:
convertView.setBackground(getContext().getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.bg_spinner_dropdown));
bg_spinner_dropdown:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#color/white" />
<corners
android:bottomLeftRadius=enter code here"25dp"
android:bottomRightRadius="25dp"
android:topLeftRadius="25dp"
android:topRightRadius="25dp" />
</shape>
this is an easy question,
in my xml file i have :
<Button
android:id="#+id/button_8"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/Bf"
android:background="#drawable/button_purple"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:textColor="#ffffff"
android:onClick="action"
/>
And in my activity i have that :
public void action (View v)
{
s = "m";
changeCouleur("blue");
v.setPressed(true);
}
When i pressed the button it's working but the button don't stay pressed.
I don't use an image this is what i use for the color :
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true" >
<shape>
<solid
android:color="#449def" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#2f6699" />
<corners
android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item android:state_focused="true" >
<shape>
<solid
android:color="#449def" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#2f6699" />
<corners
android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item>
<shape>
<gradient
android:startColor="#449def"
android:endColor="#2f6699"
android:angle="270" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#2f6699" />
<corners
android:radius="4dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</selector>
Thanks in advance if you noticed something wrong.
Please anyone have any idea ?
From what I understand is that you are trying to use a button to turn a state off/on, also the button's state will clearly indicate the feature's state.
If I am correct then use custom check box. You will have to anyways define selector for different states of checkbox (as mentioned by user1071979).
you have to use two images to do this.
button_normal
button_pressed
then create a xml resource in drawable folder
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="false"
android:drawable="#drawable/button_normal" />
<item android:state_pressed="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/button_pressed" />
</selector>
then, set this file as a background for the imageview. here we are using imageview as button. dont forget to include those two buttons in the drawable folder.
I know there are similar post to this but I couldn't find my answer in any of them. So, I have this drawable XML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_enabled="true">
<bitmap
android:src="#drawable/bm_btn_background"
android:tileMode="repeat"
android:gravity="center" />
</item>
<item android:state_enabled="true">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<gradient
android:startColor="#a0e0b071"
android:endColor="#a0a67637"
android:angle="270" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#5c3708" />
<corners
android:radius="5dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item android:state_pressed="true" >
<shape>
<gradient
android:startColor="#a0a67637"
android:endColor="#a0e0b071"
android:angle="270" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#5c3708" />
<corners
android:radius="5dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
I am trying to create a button with a repeated image as background and a gradient applied to it. With this code I only see the background image, not the gradient nor the border and the rounded corners. Also, when I click the button, it doesn't change (the gradient is supposed to change). I don't know what is wrong with this code? If instead of a selector I use a layer-list, I get the desired result but it doesn't change either when I press the button. Thanks for your help!
Your code for the selector is wrong because:
You have two elements for the same state and as the selector encounters the first state(state_enabled) for the Bitmap element it will stop there and your gradient will never appear(for this you should use a layer-list that has as items the Bitmap and the gradient on top)
The selector will match states in order. As you press the Button the state_pressed will never be activated because the selector will match first the state_enabled that is on the first element(for this you should move the code for the state_pressed above the state_enabled elements).
In fact you should just remove the state_enabled and let the Bitmap + gradient be the default value for the Button. Bellow is your selector(I assumed you only want to change gradient on the image(but the image should appear even in the pressed state, if this isn't the wanted behavior leave only the gradient for the state_pressed)):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true">
<layer-list>
<item>
<bitmap android:gravity="center" android:src="#drawable/bm_btn_background" android:tileMode="repeat" />
</item>
<item>
<shape>
<gradient android:angle="270" android:endColor="#a0e0b071" android:startColor="#a0a67637" />
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#5c3708" />
<corners android:radius="5dp" />
<padding android:bottom="10dp" android:left="10dp" android:right="10dp" android:top="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
<item android:state_enabled="true">
<layer-list>
<item>
<bitmap android:gravity="center" android:src="#drawable/bm_btn_background" android:tileMode="repeat" />
</item>
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<gradient android:angle="270" android:endColor="#a0a67637" android:startColor="#a0e0b071" />
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#5c3708" />
<corners android:radius="5dp" />
<padding android:bottom="10dp" android:left="10dp" android:right="10dp" android:top="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
</selector>
Take a look on your state attrubute
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<!-- Non focused states -->
<item android:drawable="#drawable/nicebuttonround" android:state_focused="false" android:state_pressed="false" android:state_selected="false"/>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/nicebuttonround" android:state_focused="false" android:state_pressed="false" android:state_selected="true"/>
<!-- Focused states -->
<item android:drawable="#drawable/nicebuttonroundi" android:state_focused="true" android:state_pressed="false" android:state_selected="false"/>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/nicebuttonroundi" android:state_focused="true" android:state_pressed="false" android:state_selected="true"/>
<!-- Pressed -->
<item android:drawable="#drawable/nicebuttonroundi" android:state_pressed="true" android:state_selected="true"/>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/nice22i" android:state_pressed="true"/>
</selector>
For repeating background as image you just have to create 9 pitch images.
in my case i am using this. try it
<item android:state_pressed="true">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#color/mediumGray" />
<stroke
android:width="1px"
android:color="#color/darkGray" />
<padding
android:bottom="2dp"
android:left="1dp"
android:right="1dp"
android:top="2dp" />
<corners
android:bottomLeftRadius="7sp"
android:bottomRightRadius="7sp"
android:topLeftRadius="7sp"
android:topRightRadius="7sp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item android:state_focused="true">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#color/mediumGray" />
<stroke
android:width="1px"
android:color="#color/darkGray" />
<padding
android:bottom="2dp"
android:left="1dp"
android:right="1dp"
android:top="2dp" />
<corners
android:bottomLeftRadius="7sp"
android:bottomRightRadius="7sp"
android:topLeftRadius="7sp"
android:topRightRadius="7sp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item>
<shape>
<solid android:color="#color/lightGray" />
<stroke
android:width="1px"
android:color="#color/blackTransparent" />
<padding
android:bottom="2dp"
android:left="1dp"
android:right="1dp"
android:top="2dp" />
<corners
android:bottomLeftRadius="7sp"
android:bottomRightRadius="7sp"
android:topLeftRadius="7sp"
android:topRightRadius="7sp" />
</shape>
</item>
I have added extra transperent space to the right side of image using photoshop canvas size option and it works fine for me. download below image to see demo.
I use this layout for button color (blue):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true" >
<shape>
<solid
android:color="#449def" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#2f6699" />
<corners
android:radius="3dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item>
<shape>
<gradient
android:startColor="#449def"
android:endColor="#2f6699"
android:angle="270" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#2f6699" />
<corners
android:radius="4dp" />
<padding
android:left="10dp"
android:top="10dp"
android:right="10dp"
android:bottom="10dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</selector>
When i try to change the color ,it doesn't change!It remains blue whatever changes i do.
I use in strings.xml:
<style name="mybuttons">
<item name="android:layout_width">fill_parent</item>
<item name="android:layout_height">wrap_content</item>
<item name="android:textColor">#ffffff</item>
</style>
Here is a part from main.xml:
<Button
android:id="#+id/select_c"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/choose_c"
android:layout_marginTop="120dip"
android:background="#drawable/blue_button"
style="#style/mybuttons"
/>
You should specify items in selector with android:state_pressed and android:state_focused
You've not provided enough information to know what the problem is - where's the XML layout?
To use a selector drawable you need to create it (as you have done) but then apply it to your Button. I would expect to see an attribute like background="#drawable/my_selector_drawable" in there, to apply the button background to the button in your layout.
