If I need a development tool for Android (where Android is the development platform), can I just install the Linux version?
E.g. can I install the Linux version of QtCreator?

can I just install the Linux version?
No. While Android has a Linux kernel, it lacks most of the Linux userland environment and therefore will not run arbitrary Linux apps, particularly those expecting a Linux UI subsystem like X.

Can Linux apps be run in Android?
Might be helpful. Looks like you might be able to install apps (but maybe not a full IDE).
QT has a package for Android though. So you might be able to get some of the things you want.

I would like to build something like which apkmirror.com does.
My query is how does apkmirror gets apks ? and is there a way or even a system design which allows us to download/extract an apk from playstore directly ?
Please don't comment any 3rdparty websites :)

I had automated the android emulator with ADB (Android Debugging Bridge) and using the ADB itself the APK is copied to host machine.
I am building a NodeJS based package for this which will be soon released in npm.
Thanks!

I'm running git 2.8.1 Setup, I want to be careful with this since I will be developing mobile apps. I'm at the part where it's asking "Which terminal emulator do you want to use with your Git Bash?" And with choices of the following:
Use MinTTY(the default terminal of MSYS2)
Use Windows' default console window
Which is the best choice for me if I'm running a Windows 7 x64 Operating system and will be developing mobile applications? And if by any chance can someone explain their difference(s) or send a link for information. Thanks in advance!
In my opinion, you should use MinTTY regardless of other stuff. Even MiTTY has no advantage, windows' default console window('cmd') has lots of disadvantages. cmd has a very limited default history scroll-back stack and terrible font encoding and so forth. By contrast, MinTTY has resizeable window and other useful configurable options that could be open through right-click on toolbar of git-bash.
First choice will not add git commands to your PATH environment variable, you need open a MSYS2 terminal to execute git in terminal.
For second choice, you can use git commands in your windows default console.
Beside, the most different matter I think is that, windows' default console use \ as path separator, MSYS2 use /.

I've an Android sketch template as a .sketch file. Unfortunately I can't use it on Linux or Windows, but the Sketch program is only for Mac OS. How can I open .sketch files in Linux or Windows?
Windows: Figma runs on Windows and opens .sketch files.
Linux: there's Figma Linux, an unofficial fork for Linux.
You can use FramerJS to parse sketch files. Its an online platform to export the html and css from the sketch files. Hope this helps!
The Lunacy app is focused on Sketch Files on Windows.
Avocode seems to be a pretty good alternative. They also have a free version that you can try it out before you decide to buy.

Although experienced with development using Eclipse, after a short break I realise that my current machine (Vista, 3GB, unable to support virtualisation)is inadequate to migrate to Android Studio and the latest SDK.
I was contemplating a Linux laptop (ASUS X555LA Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM) and assuming I could install Ubuntu 15 on it, would it make a reasonably quick Android Studio development machine?
I would much appreciate any answers from experienced A. Studio/Ubuntu programmers.
I don't know if you'll get an adequate answer for this, so I'll throw my hat in the ring. I personally believe virualization is not the downfall of your current machine. This post suggests that you do not need virtualization other than for faster emulators, since you probably have a physical Android device for testing, this is likely not as critical.
I Google'd the Laptop you want to upgrade to (it was i5), and has virualization, so it would be better in that regard.
I currently use a rather high end pc (i7 4770k, 16gb ram, SSD drive) and I would not consider Android Studio to be "fast". The continuous build times are very noticeable. Granted, the upgrade would perform a lot better; but if you do upgrade, don't expect a seamless dev environment.

I don't have administrative rights on computers that I use. How I can run an Android OS on Windows XP or 7?
If you have Eclipse installed it comes with an in-built Android emulator. You can also launch it from command-line. Look here for the command-line use guide (list of useful commands to be found here). As for Eclipse this is probably the best place to look for guidance as to how to set it up.
