Insert JSON Array on String Array on android - android

I have JSON array like below format
{
"get": [],
"post": {
"_event": "get_buyers_guide_detail",
"_deviceID": "490154203237518",
"type": "cars",
"model_id": "1007"
},
"cars": [
{
"ID": 6119,
"post_title": "COROLLA",
"interior_images": [
"http://.....e8664969d20654bf2a58f1b26de70d2.jpg",
"http://........02/3bdfae250e3ce14514fe8f2f9dc3e58f.jpg",
"http://........1d14a554a2ed78d1659463ec.jpg"
],
}
]
}
I have create JSONArray for this:
JSONArray Array = entries.getJSONArray("cars");
for (int i = 0; i < Array.length(); i++) {
JSONObject detailObject = Array.getJSONObject(i);
String ID = detailObject.getString("ID");
String title = detailObject.getString("post_title");
JSONArray galleryArray = detailObject.getJSONArray("interior_images");
for(int j=0; j<galleryArray.length(); j++){
// What to do here ????
}
}
now i am confused with this format of JSON data. There is no JSONObject to get the values. How to insert these string on Array please help me find out the solution

Try this,
galleryArray.getString(j);
this should get the string at position j.

galleryArray.getString(index);
This function will return String object of corresponding index

try this
ArrayList<String> stringArray = new ArrayList<String>();
JSONArray galleryArray = detailObject.getJSONArray("interior_images");
for(int j=0; j<galleryArray.length(); j++){
try {
JSONObject jsonObject = galleryArray.getJSONObject(j);
stringArray.add(jsonObject.toString());
}
catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}

Try this way,hope this will help you to solve your problem.
try{
String jsonRespone="{\"get\":[],\"post\":{\"_event\":\"get_buyers_guide_detail\",\"_deviceID\":\"490154203237518\",\"type\":\"cars\",\"model_id\":\"1007\"},\"cars\":[{\"ID\":6119,\"post_title\":\"COROLLA\",\"interior_images\":[\"http://.....e8664969d20654bf2a58f1b26de70d2.jpg\",\"http://........02/3bdfae250e3ce14514fe8f2f9dc3e58f.jpg\",\"http://........1d14a554a2ed78d1659463ec.jpg\"],}]}";
JSONObject responeJson = new JSONObject(jsonRespone);
ArrayList<HashMap<String,Object>> data = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, Object>>();
JSONArray carsJsonArray = responeJson.getJSONArray("cars");
for (int i=0;i<carsJsonArray.length();i++){
HashMap<String,Object> row = new HashMap<String, Object>();
row.put("ID",carsJsonArray.getJSONObject(i).getString("ID"));
row.put("TITLE",carsJsonArray.getJSONObject(i).getString("post_title"));
JSONArray galleryArray = carsJsonArray.getJSONObject(i).getJSONArray("interior_images");
ArrayList<String> interiorImages = new ArrayList<String>();
for(int j=0; j<galleryArray.length(); j++){
interiorImages.add(galleryArray.getString(j));
}
row.put("INTERIORIMAGES",carsJsonArray.getJSONObject(i).getString("interiorImages"));
data.add(row);
}
for (HashMap<String,Object> row :data){
System.out.print("ID : "+row.get("ID"));
System.out.print("TITLE : "+row.get("TITLE"));
ArrayList<String> interiorImages = (ArrayList<String>) row.get("INTERIORIMAGES");
for (int j=0;j<interiorImages.size();j++){
System.out.print("INTERIORIMAGES +"+j+" : "+interiorImages.get(j));
}
}
}catch (Throwable e){
e.printStackTrace();
}

I think you need to use List of Map
Example:
List<Map> list = new ArrayList<Map>();
Map map = new HashMap();
map.put("userIcon", R.drawable.scott);
map.put("username", "Shen");
map.put("usertext", "This is a simple sample for SimpleAdapter");
list.add(map);
map = new HashMap();
map.put("userIcon", R.drawable.ricardo);
map.put("username", "Ricardo");
map.put("usertext", "This is a simple sample for SimpleAdapter");
list.add(map);
add this in loop

Decode JSON String in Android

I have a contacts which is in the form of JSON. Now I want to decode them into String array. There are two arrays; names and phones. I'm using this code:
String[] names;
String[] phones;
String test = "[{\"name\":\"A\",\"phone\":\"911\"},{\"name\":\"A1\",\"phone\":\"911\"},{\"name\":\"Abid\",\"phone\":\"371812\"}]";
try {
JSONArray jsonArray = new JSONArray(test);
JSONObject jsonObject = new JSONObject(jsonArray.toString());
Log.i("INFO", String.valueOf(jsonObject.length()));
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
This generates an error. How can I add all names in names array and all phones in phones array. Like names[0] is assigned A which is a first name and phones[0] assigned 911 which is first phone number corresponding to first name. How can I do that, I'm new in android?
The problem is in this line
JSONObject jsonObject = new JSONObject(jsonArray.toString());
you are trying to convert JSONArray in JSONObject , which you can't. if you want to access JSONObject inside of JSONArray you have to loop through each, or you can get specific object by it's index.
String[] names;
String[] phones;
String test = "[{\"name\":\"A\",\"phone\":\"911\"},{\"name\":\"A1\",\"phone\":\"911\"},{\"name\":\"Abid\",\"phone\":\"371812\"}]";
try {
JSONArray jsonArray = new JSONArray(test);
phones = names = new String[jsonArray.length()];
for(int i = 0 ; i < jsonArray.length(); i ++){
JSONObject jsonObject = jsonArray.getJSONObject(i);
names[i] = jsonObject.getString("name");
phones[i] = jsonObject.getString("phone");
Log.i("INFO", "name : " + jsonObject.getString("name") + " , phone : " + jsonObject.getString("phone"));
}
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
You can't convert json arrya to json object like that:
try {
JSONArray jsonArray = new JSONArray(test);
for(int i=0; i<jsonArray.length(); i++) {
JSONObject jsonObject = jsonArray.getJSONObject(i);
// Your code goes here..
}
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
here is the required code.
ArrayList<String> names = new ArrayList<>();
ArrayList<String> phones = new ArrayList<>();
String test = "[{\"name\":\"A\",\"phone\":\"911\"},{\"name\":\"A1\",\"phone\":\"911\"},{\"name\":\"Abid\",\"phone\":\"371812\"}]";
try {
JSONArray jsonArray = new JSONArray(test);
for (int i = 0; i < jsonArray.length(); i++) {
JSONObject jsonObject = jsonArray.getJSONObject(i);
String name = jsonObject.getString("name");
String phone = jsonObject.getString("phone");
names.add(name);
phones.add(phone);
Log.i("INFO", name + ", " + phone);
}
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
above you have used simple arrays they can store data only of fixed size. But arrayList and List can store data of variable size or you do not need to fix their size.

Unable to get JSON values separately in Android

I have a trouble finding a way how to parse JSONArray
This is my JSON:
{
"result": [
[
"id",
"name",
"origin",
"destination"
],
[
1,
"A S Peta",
0,
0
],
[
2,
"Aachara",
0,
0
],
.
.
.
[
2238,
"sydney",
0,
0
]
]
}
I need to access it in Android app. I have tried and I am able to receive values, but they are displaying in a single row, and I am unable to split the fields.
if (jsonStr != null) {
try {
JSONObject jsonObj = new JSONObject(jsonStr);
// Getting JSON Array node
JSONArray contacts = jsonObj.getJSONArray("result");
for (int i = 1; i < contacts.length(); i++) {
String name = contacts.getString(i).replaceAll("\\[|\\]", "");
HashMap<String, String> contact = new HashMap<>();
contact.put("name", name);
contactList.add(contact);
}
}
This is my output, I need to get the values separately like:
1
A S Peta
0
0
But not in single row:
Json String ca be parsed in JSONObject like:
try {
List<HashMap<String,String>> cityDetails= new ArrayList<HashMap<String,String>>();
JSONObject jsonObject = new JSONObject("your json string");
JSONArray jsonArray = jsonObject.getJSONArray("result");
JSONArray cityKeyArray =jsonArray.getJSONArray(0);
for(int index=1; index<jsonArray.length();index++){
HashMap<String, String> cityData = new HashMap<String, String>();
for(int dataIndex=0; dataIndex<cityKeyArray.length();dataIndex++) {
cityData.put(cityKeyArray.getString(dataIndex), jsonArray.getJSONArray(index).getString(dataIndex));
}
cityDetails.add(cityData);
}
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
cityDetails can be used in the adapter to show value according to the keys which are in the first array of the JSON String i.e. cityKeyArray.
So, the collections will show the data as user requirements.
Hope this will help to solve your query.
Thanks and Happy coding!!!
update your code with this
if (jsonStr != null) {
try {
JSONObject jsonObj = new JSONObject(jsonStr);
// Getting JSON Array node
JSONArray contacts = jsonObj.getJSONArray("result");
for (int i = 1; i < contacts.length(); i++) {
JSONArray contactArray = contacts.getJSONArray(i);
int id = contactArray.getInt(0);
String name = contactArray.getString(1);
String origin= contactArray.getString(2);
String destination= contactArray.getString(3);
HashMap<String, String> contact = new HashMap<>();
contact.put("id", id);
contact.put("name", name);
contact.put("origin", origin);
contact.put("destination", destination);
contactList.add(contact);
}
}
String name = contacts.getString(i).replaceAll("\\[|\\]", "");
Do not do this; it seems you do not have strings for your arrays.
You have nested lists, it seems, so you can access those JSON arrays via another getJSONArray(index) method
Or you could fix the source of the JSON (your server?) to return better parsable JSON
try {
JSONObject jsonObj = new JSONObject(jsonStr);
// Getting JSON Array node
JSONArray contacts = jsonObj.getJSONArray("result");
for (int i = 1; i < contacts.length(); i++) {
HashMap<String, String> contact = new HashMap<>();
contact.put("name", contacts.getString("name"));
contactList.add(contact);
}
}
Do this
if (jsonStr != null) {
try {
JSONObject jsonObj = new JSONObject(jsonStr);
// Getting JSON Array node
JSONArray contacts = jsonObj.getJSONArray("result");
for (int i = 1; i < contacts.length(); i++) {
JsonArray array=contacts.get(i);
String name = array.getString("name");
HashMap<String, String> contact = new HashMap<>();
contact.put("name", name);
contactList.add(contact);
}
}

Android get elements from json array

I'm trying to get elements from my json array.
this is my json response:
{"IDs":["635426812801493839","635429094450867472","635433640807558204"]}
This is what I've tried so far:
itemList = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>();
JSONArray a = jsonObj.getJSONArray(Constants.IDS);
int arrSize = a.length();
ArrayList<String> stringArray = new ArrayList<String>();
for (int i = 0; i < arrSize; ++i) {
JSONObject obj = a.getJSONObject(i);
stringArray.add(obj.toString());
item = new HashMap<String, String>();
item.put(Constants.ID, obj.toString());
itemList.add(item);
}
Log.e("ARR COUNT", "" + stringArray.size());
But I'm getting empty list. What is wrong with my code? Any help will be truly appreciated. Thanks.
The for loop should be
for (int i = 0; i < arrSize; ++i) {
stringArray.add(a.getString(i));
your the JSONArray contains already string
JSONObject obj = a.getJSONObject(i);
replace with
String str = a.getString(i);
Use this
itemList = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>();
JSONArray a = jsonObj.getJSONArray(Constants.IDS);
int arrSize = a.length();
ArrayList<String> stringArray = new ArrayList<String>();
for (int i = 0; i < arrSize; ++i) {
stringArray.add(a.getString(i));
item = new HashMap<String, String>();
item.put(Constants.ID, obj.toString());
itemList.add(item);
}
Log.e("ARR COUNT", "" + stringArray.size());

Get JSONObject - Android

Here is my JSON:
{
"id": "11111",
"title": "title?",
"url": "www.example.com",
"fulltext": {
"page1": "<p>balblabba</p>",
"page2": "<p>avavaava</p>"
},
"related_articles": [
{
"id": "123",
"title": "title",
"image_name": "www.example.com/image1.png"
}
]
}
I need to put everything in Strings. I'm using this code:
String data = JSON TEXT!!!;
JSONObject jRealObject = new JSONObject(data);
String title = jRealObject.getString("title").toString();
String url = jRealObject.getString("url").toString();
String fulltext = jRealObject.getString("fulltext").toString();
String page1 = ????
String page2 = ????
jArray = jRealObject.getJSONArray("related_articles");
for (int i = 0; i < jArray.length(); i++) {
jRealObject = jArray.getJSONObject(i);
String relatedId = jRealObject.getString("id").toString();
String relatedTitle = jRealObject.getString("title").toString();
String relatedImage = jRealObject.getString("image_name").toString();
}
I'm getting everything, But I want to split "fultext" into two variables. but I don't know how can I get "page1" and "page2".
Here in your response "fulltext" is another Jsonobject use below code to get other data.
JSONObject fulltextobj = jRealObject.getJSONObject("fulltext");
String page1 = fulltextobj.getString("page1");
String page2 = fulltextobj.getString("page2");
JSONObject obj = jRealObject.getJSONObject("fulltext");
String var1 = obj.getString("page1");
String var2 = obj.getString("page2");
EDIT: You have a JSONObject nested into another JSONObject. fulltext is not a String, is a JSONObject indeed, so you have to get a JSONObject from parent
Try this way,hope this will help you to solve your problem.
try{
JSONObject jsonObject = new JSONObject("{\"id\":\"11111\",\"title\":\"title?\",\"url\":\"www.example.com\",\"fulltext\":{\"page1\":\"<p>balblabba</p>\",\"page2\":\"<p>avavaava</p>\"},\"related_articles\":[{\"id\":\"123\",\"title\":\"title\",\"image_name\":\"www.example.com/image1.png\"}]}");
HashMap<String,Object> responseMap = new HashMap<String, Object>();
ArrayList<HashMap<String,String>> articleList = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>();
responseMap.put("id",jsonObject.getString("id"));
responseMap.put("title",jsonObject.getString("title"));
responseMap.put("url",jsonObject.getString("url"));
JSONObject fullTextJsonObject = jsonObject.getJSONObject("fulltext");
responseMap.put("page1",fullTextJsonObject.getString("page1"));
responseMap.put("page2",fullTextJsonObject.getString("page2"));
JSONArray relatedArticleJsonArray = jsonObject.getJSONArray("related_articles");
for(int i=0;i<relatedArticleJsonArray.length();i++){
HashMap<String,String> articleRow = new HashMap<String, String>();
articleRow.put("id", relatedArticleJsonArray.getJSONObject(i).getString("id"));
articleRow.put("title", relatedArticleJsonArray.getJSONObject(i).getString("title"));
articleRow.put("image_name", relatedArticleJsonArray.getJSONObject(i).getString("image_name"));
articleList.add(articleRow);
}
responseMap.put("related_articles",articleList);
System.out.print("id : "+responseMap.get("id").toString());
System.out.print("title : "+responseMap.get("title").toString());
System.out.print("url : "+responseMap.get("url").toString());
System.out.print("page1 : "+responseMap.get("page1").toString());
System.out.print("page2 : "+responseMap.get("page2").toString());
ArrayList<HashMap<String,String>> list = (ArrayList<HashMap<String,String>>)responseMap.get("related_articles");
for (HashMap<String,String> row : list){
System.out.print("id : "+row.get("id"));
System.out.print("title : "+row.get("title"));
System.out.print("image_name : "+row.get("image_name"));
}
}catch (Throwable e){
e.printStackTrace();
}
You are making string again toString which having no sense. please do some modification in your code .I have also done changes that you requrie.
String data = JSON TEXT!!!;
JSONObject jRealObject = new JSONObject(data);
String title = jRealObject.getString("title");
String url = jRealObject.getString("url");
String fulltext = jRealObject.getString("fulltext");
JSONObject obj = jRealObject.getJSONObject("fulltext");
String strPage1 = obj.getString("page1");
String strPage2 = obj.getString("page2");
jArray = jRealObject.getJSONArray("related_articles");
for (int i = 0; i < jArray.length(); i++) {
jRealObject = jArray.getJSONObject(i);
String relatedId = jRealObject.getString("id");
String relatedTitle = jRealObject.getString("title");
String relatedImage = jRealObject.getString("image_name");
}

How to set json data to list view?

I tried to add json data to listview.But i don't know how to add the json data to list adapter.
try {
mylist = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>();
HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>();
JSONObject jsonResponse = new JSONObject(strJson1);
JSONArray jsonMainNode = jsonResponse.optJSONArray("restaurants");
for (int i = 0; i < jsonMainNode.length(); i++) {
JSONObject jsonChildNode = jsonMainNode.getJSONObject(i);
String restName = jsonChildNode.optString("name");
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), name, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
if(restName.equalsIgnoreCase(name)){//this name is predefined name.
String address = jsonChildNode.optString("address");
String mobile = jsonChildNode.optString("mobile");
String direction = "Direction: "+jsonChildNode.optString("direction");
String bestTime = "Best time to visite: "+jsonChildNode.optString("bestTime");
String food = jsonChildNode.optString("food");
String dress = jsonChildNode.optString("dress");
String priceRange = "Price Range: "+jsonChildNode.optString("priceRange");
String rate = jsonChildNode.optString("Rate");
String comment = "Price Range: "+jsonChildNode.optString("comment");
map.put("restName",restName);
map.put("address",address);
map.put("mobile",mobile);
map.put("direction",direction);
map.put("bestTime",bestTime);
map.put("food",food);
map.put("dress",dress);
map.put("priceRange",priceRange);
map.put("rate",rate);
map.put("comment",comment);
mylist = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>();
mylist.add(map);
}else{
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Error", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
}
} catch (JSONException e) {
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Error..." + e.toString(),
Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
// ListAdapter adapter = new SimpleAdapter(getApplicationContext(),android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1,mylist);
// list.setAdapter(adapter);
}
Can anyone tel me how to set this data to list view.?
Try this..
Your doing reversely. declear the arraylist before for loop and declear the HashMap inside the for loop .
mylist = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>();
JSONObject jsonResponse = new JSONObject(strJson1);
JSONArray jsonMainNode = jsonResponse.optJSONArray("restaurants");
for (int i = 0; i < jsonMainNode.length(); i++) {
JSONObject jsonChildNode = jsonMainNode.getJSONObject(i);
String restName = jsonChildNode.optString("name");
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), name, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
if(restName.equalsIgnoreCase(name)){//this name is predefined name.
HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>();
String address = jsonChildNode.optString("address");
//So on
map.put("restName",restName);
//So on
mylist.add(map);
}else{
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Error", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
google-gson
I would use gson for this. Check the gson project website for more details on how. This is an example for object serialisation/deserialisation:
Object Examples
class BagOfPrimitives {
private int value1 = 1;
private String value2 = "abc";
private transient int value3 = 3;
BagOfPrimitives() {
// no-args constructor
}
}
(Serialization)
BagOfPrimitives obj = new BagOfPrimitives();
Gson gson = new Gson();
String json = gson.toJson(obj);
==> json is {"value1":1,"value2":"abc"}
Note that you can not serialize objects with circular references since that will result in infinite recursion.
(Deserialization)
BagOfPrimitives obj2 = gson.fromJson(json, BagOfPrimitives.class);
==> obj2 is just like obj
