the operation couldn't be completed. invalid pointer

i had same problem today. after struggling a bit and testing every thing i just found out that the problem is android sdk tools.
Update it to 24.1.2. and it should work.

Android designer doesn't work on axml. pronounced Zam El Maybe try one of the MS editors.
Expression Studio , Expression Blend but I woudn't expect too much of the really cool stuff to work on every single device you port your code to.
axml and the android xml layouts are just gorified html so for simple things maybe you can use regular text editor.

Xamarin Forms Android This type of collectionView does not support changes to its sourceCollection from a thread different from the dispatcher thread

Here is the error I'm getting when trying to archive my app for deployment.
This error doesn't show up at any other time. The project builds and runs on emulators and devices without issue. This error has zero context or direction as to where to look to fix it. It also just randomly showed up out of nowhere, last time I built/archived (with zero functional changes) this error did not happen.
Main difference between this archival and the previous one is a newer version of VS 2017. Don't remember exactly the version from before, but am currently on 15.9.4 (stable).
Looking around on the interwebs, I've found that this error seems to have something to do with ObservableCollection's, which there are probably 10-ish in my app. Not really sure what to do here, because this has never been an issue previously, and I'm coming up on a deadline and with the structure of the app, am not in a good position to start making functional changes.
EDIT
I have also cleaned and rebuilt my solution, as well as deleting all bin/obj folders in my xamarin projects. Even tried deleting the .vs folder which can sometimes help. But still no go.
Going to try updating VS to 15.9.5 and see if maybe it was fixed in a release.
EDIT 2
Updating VS 2017 to 15.9.5 made no difference.
EDIT 3
I had my coworker try archiving the exact same project on his machine (running VS 2017: 5.9.3, and it archived fine for him. So far that's the only difference we've been able to find between our environments.
I saw the same problem using VS2017 15.9.9. Even the same code that could be archived a week ago threw the above mentioned error. It seems related to local data in the solution. A "clear" build was not sufficient. However manual deletion of the local obj and bin folders followed by archiving (build is done implicitly) solved the problem for me.
For my part closing Visual studio and deleting the .vs hidden folder did it.
It's actually a fix for many issues using Xamarin.
I had this other issue where I couldn't archive because the build process would just hang and never end. Deleting the .vs folder did it too.

Just go to project property then go to Android options-> Select Advanced then increase the Java Max heap size to 2G/3G -> it's working for me.
Leon Lu's suggestion worked. I don't particularly like it, as it took forever and repairing basically restores you to a base install (no extensions or personalizations). Took about 1.2 hours to complete, but once done I was able to again archive my android application. I guess something went wrong in vs at some point, perhaps during an update. There's no way to tell.
I tried ALL of the ideas above, but had no consistent reliable luck with any of them.
I found that Microsoft has had the problem reported to them (see link below). After a ton of time burn on this, I posted at the link below one way that I've been able to get around this archive-build issue.
Like the other fixes, it's not exactly logical, and nothing that you would think would work, but I've found the process to be repeatable, which is golden for me with tight timelines and having no time for this.

Trouble with Visual Studio 2015 and Xamarin (Android Development)

I need some help with the designer of the visual studio/xamarin on the android.
I'm kinda noob with development, but I was hoping to do some examples, but the designer isn't showing up...
The tutorial videos, from the Xamarin itself, only says it need to create a new project and play with the designer, but when I do that, the designer is empty and I can't do nothing...
Here some pictures from what I have and from what I see on videos:
There's a couple things I'm thinking here. It's quite possible that your installation of Xamarin didn't go according to plan. Check your detailed Visual Studio version information in "Help -> About -> Copy Detailed Info".
Additionally, you might also be running on an outdated version of the Android SDK or there might be an issue with your Java config. Ensure you've got the Android SDK installed and updated and that you're using a current version of the Java SDK.
I also see there's a white box showing up on your Designer screen. Does that ever populate with an error? Usually, that will show some info on what exactly is going wrong.
Lastly, you can also check your logs in the following directory for more hints as to what's going on:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Xamarin\Log
I hope this helps!

Errors using the apkTool

I have used this site to help me with the apkTool in the past, however I have today come up against an error I can't quite get my head around.
I am DE-compiling an APK which was written by a predecessor as it requires a few tweaks and he hasn't left any source files behind..
So, As far as I'm aware I have the latest tool available, using windows 7 64bit.
I have added the framework from my test tablet which the app runs fine on. And this is what I get..
This is the error screen

Anyone have an idea at what the issue is here? Any help really appreciated.

XML Layout Misbehavior with Eclipse-ADT

I am facing something strange issue with Android XML Layout Editor.
Whenever I am switching from Graphical Layout to Code Layout, It shows everything perfectly and when I'll click or move up down via keyboard arrow keys, it behaves strange and part of xml line are becoming visible/invisible.
Xml code is there, its not changing.
Have a look at attached video link.

My current Config :
Eclipse SDK
Version: 3.7.2
Build id: M20120208-0800
Android Development Toolkit
Version: 20.0.3.v201208082019-427395
Update :
issue is still there with Eclipse with 4.2 also
Yes, it's a known issue and I have also faced this strange issue with Eclipse, the solution to it is to close the XML file and open it again. If that doesn't work, restarting Eclipse should also solve it.
the same issue i was facing in XML file. The solution is either reopen the file. And the perfect solution is upgrade your eclipse version to JUNO. That will not create such type of irritation problem..
Have fun.

Android: Graphical Layout not working - doesn't show anything

My situation is: I once made an android project(2.2 version) but soon needed to format my computer. After formatting, I downloaded eclipse again but when I imported my project, I wasn't able to use the 'graphical layout' menu for xml. It doesn't show me anything like the picture below.
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3586/19978552.png
I cleaned the project and updated the Android SDK, however, none of these seemed to work well. What could be causing this?
Try restarting Eclipse. Usually that solves the problem for me when that happens.
Right click on your layout xml file and select Open With -> Android Layout Editor. It will force eclipse to open file in android's layout editor mode
None of above worked for me. what worked for me is:
1- Select a Google APIs Project Build Target rather than one of the Android X.X ones. This setting is in right click on project -> Properties->Android.
2- Make a change in XML and save it. Now switch back to "Graphical Layout" and it will show the layout.
For some, only 2nd step works.
This Question was asked 3 year ago, I am sure that you have get your solution, however i was also facing the same problem but got the solution in eclipse, here it is:-
1)Goto help->AboutEclipse->Installation details.
2)check the version of Android DDMS, Android development tool, Android hierarchy viewer, Android native development tool, Android trace view and tracer for openGl ES in installed software tab.
3)If they have different version than you have to update all of them.
4)Goto help->check for update in eclipse and follow the instruction.
5)Then restart eclipse.
This solve my problem.
The topic seems a little bit cold, but I wanted to add it nonetheless.
I had a similar problem with my layouts recently. When i create a project it automatically creates the layouts in the latest version of Android (eclipse shows it as version 22 of android as of today). But i can't see anything. So i just change the version to, say 18, and it shows ok. Furthermore if i want to change it back to version 22 it throws and exception, saying that a class can't be instantiated. (I am probably missing a class or a library on my system.)
Therefore if you cant see the layout it might be a good idea to switch back to earlier versions for development. cheers.
