You need to create an interface to your activity from your fragment. Something like:
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements ActionBar.TabListener,MainFragment.getSelectedBox {
private ViewPager viewPager;
private ActionBar actionBar;
private MainTabAdapter mAdapter;
private String[] tabs = { "Live" };
private box selectedBox;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
....
}
//called from the MainFragment
#Override
public void AccessSelectedBox {
this.box = <do something with box>
}
}
Fragment Class
public class MainFragment extends ListFragment {
//interface to the MainActivity activity class
private getSelectedBox listener;
public interface getSelectedBox {
public void AccessSelectedBox();
}
}
Here is a good article on this: http://www.vogella.com/articles/AndroidFragments/article.html.

I have different fragments in my MainActivity. In each fragment I implemented some features.
Now I am trying to implemented tabs for one fragments, what I'm looking for is about hide tab layout in remaining fragments.

I think you are asking if we can create two tabs and when the user presses any of the tab, same fragment should appear instead of multiple fragments. If that is your question, may be i can help.
You will have to create one class that extends FragmentStateAdapter , then you should create a single class that extends Fragment instead of having multiple classes and a layout.
Create ClassFragmentPagerAdapter like this:
public class ClassFragmentPagerAdapter extends FragmentStateAdapter {
public ClassFragmentPagerAdapter (#NonNull FragmentManager fragmentManager, #NonNull Lifecycle lifecycle) {
super(fragmentManager, lifecycle);
}
#NonNull
#Override
public Fragment createFragment(int position) {
if (position == 0) {
return new ClassFragment ();
}
return new ClassFragment ();
}
#Override
public int getItemCount() {
return 2;
}
Then after that create the other ClassFragment that extends Fragment:
public class ClassFragment extends Fragment {
#Nullable
#Override
public View onCreateView(#NonNull LayoutInflater inflater, #Nullable ViewGroup
container, #Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreateView(inflater, container, savedInstanceState);
View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.layout_name, container, false);
return view;
}
#Override
public void onViewCreated(#NonNull View view, #Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
super.onViewCreated(view, savedInstanceState);
//do stuff here
}
Hope it helps! Happy coding:)
there is a MainActivity with it's fragment named FragmentOne. i have a List of items in this fragment and these data are save in my database
i make changes from NavigationView in MainActivity .. i try to delete all rows from my database. it works, but after that i need to refresh my FragmentOne, how can i refresh the FragmentOne UI ?
i have a method named updateUI in my FragmentOne but how could i access that method? when i make that method public everything just goes wrong!
i tested different ways but failed.. can anybody tell me how can i do this?

I think you are having this issue because of the below code in your MainActivity:
FragmentOne fragmentOne = new FragmentOne();
fragmentOne.getFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.card_view, fragmentOne).commit();
You try to get the instance of the fragment manager with getFragmentManager() who call Activity.getFragmentManager but your fragmentOne isn't attach to the activity so the method return null and you get a java.lang.NullPointerException
Instead of fragmentOne.getFragmentManager() use getSupportFragmentManager() directly from the activity.
Hope this helps.
I have a method named updateUI in my FragmentOne but how could i
access that method?
To call the updateUI method of your FragmentOne
alert_delete.setPositiveButton("Yes", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
DetailLab.get(getApplicationContext()).deleteAllDetail();
Fragment page = getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentByTag("android:switcher:" + R.id.pager + ":" + ViewPager.getCurrentItem());
// based on the current position you can then cast the page to the correct
// class and call the method:
if (ViewPager.getCurrentItem() == 0 && page != null) {
((FragmentOne)page).updateUI();
}
dialog.dismiss();
}
});
To refresh a fragment's UI, use the fragment manager to detach and attach the same fragment again.
Eg:
public void refreshFragmentUI(Fragment fragment) {
getSupportFragmentManager()
.beginTransaction()
.detach(fragment)
.attach(fragment)
.commit();
}
Note: Use getSupportFragmentManager() if you are using support libraries. Else use getFragmentManager()
The best way to update data from SQLite Database in fragment is using LoaderManager.LoaderCallbacks and CursorAdapter. Because it is an Asynchronous process.
I developed an android application, as you see in this picture,
I used sherlock action bar for searching, the only problem is that when the user search something in web tab if he/she wants to see the image result, he should type and search again in image tab, is there any way to pass the edittext parameter to other tabs and do searching when user changed the tabs?
MainActivity:
public class MainActivity extends SherlockFragmentActivity implements
TabListener {
private ViewPager viewPager;
private TabsPagerAdapter mAdapter;
private com.actionbarsherlock.app.ActionBar actionBar;
private String[] tabs = { "Sound", "Image", "Web" };
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
actionBar = getSupportActionBar();
actionBar.setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(false);
actionBar.setDisplayShowHomeEnabled(false);
mAdapter = new TabsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
actionBar.setHomeButtonEnabled(false);
viewPager.setAdapter(mAdapter);
viewPager.setOffscreenPageLimit(3);
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab().setText(tabs[0])
.setTabListener(this), false);
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab().setText(tabs[1])
.setTabListener(this), false);
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab().setText(tabs[2])
.setTabListener(this), true);
viewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);

editText.setOnEditorActionListener(new TextView.OnEditorActionListener() {
#Override
public boolean onEditorAction(TextView v, int actionId,

if (actionId == EditorInfo.IME_ACTION_SEARCH) {

return true;
}
return false;

});
buttonSearch.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {

});
listview.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
#Override

Intent i = new Intent(getActivity(), Play.class);
startActivity(i);
} catch (Exception e) {
}
}
}
});
return rootView;
}
First,you could write a interface:
public interface OnProfileDataPass {
public String getCurrentSearchword();
public void setCurrentSearchword(String searchword);
}
Then in your fragments:
public class WebFragment extends Fragment {
private OnProfileDataPass dataPasser;
#Override
public void onAttach(Activity activity) {
super.onAttach(activity);
try {
dataPasser = (OnProfileDataPass) activity;
} catch (ClassCastException e) {
throw new ClassCastException(activity.toString() + " must implement OnProfileDataPass");
}
searchword = dataPasser.getCurrentSearchword();
}
}
In your activity:
public class MainActivity implements OnProfileDataPass {
String currentSearchword;
#Override
public String getCurrentSearchword() {
return currentSearchword;
}
#Override
public String setCurrentSearchword(String searchword) {
this.currentSearchword = searchword;
}
}
That's my solution.When you change the tap,you could listen the proper event and set the word with getActivity.setCurrentSearchword(String newword),then you could get the newword in the fragment's dataPasser variable's method getCurrentSearchword() to get the search word. I have test it in my app. Wish that helps you a little.
you should save the value of the editText in your activity and then pass it as an argument when you call your fragment, using the same technique as the one described here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/Fragment.html
I have set up a swipe tab using fragments in the action bar. For each view of the tab, i have a gridview with images i want to create but i can't use both an activity and fragments. So how do i create the GridView? How are fragments supposed to work with activities in such cases? This is how i've done it so far.

actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position); }
});

actionBar = getActionBar();
//Enable Tabs on Action Bar
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);

I hope this would help you
I am having some trouble with implementing OnItemClick to the ViewPager.
I would like it so when I click on one of my picture's being displayed by the ViewPager, it displays a toast message just to tell me that this is working.
So far, nothing happens when I click on one of my items when doing this.
Any help would be appreciated!
