How to fix this error other than increasing minSdk to 9 ? I m using eclipse for making the apk.
Just download the old version here, and then import it to your project.
Dont forget to remove the reference from the old version from your project.
Now google play will accept your app.
You are using the latest Play Service version (6.1) which start rolling out today.
The new Play Service (4.0+) only supported on Android 2.3+
You have two options:
1- Use Play Service For Froyo. (not recommended at all)
2- Update The minSdkVersion in your manifest to 9
PS: also I recommended you to use Play Service 5.X instead of 6.1. it start rolling out today and it need about two weeks to be installed on all users devices.
There are two approaches to this problem first one change the target sdk but that one of course you have mentioned not to use. The other one in my opinion would be to update your sdk and from google-> google playservices-> get the google play and update it in your project.
I hope this will work.

In August 1, Google Play requires new apps to target at least Android 8.0 (API level 26). But in appgyver, I notice the latest available version is 4.5.3. Is there any way to upgrade it? Thanks!
I having the same issue, which is the maximum API level which appgyver supports is 21 only. GooglePlay required at least API Level 26 on August 2018 onward.
AppGyver just officially answered this question here.
TL;TR AppGyver is using Crosswalk, an Intel product, to build Android apps, and Intel has shut down Crosswalk over a year ago, now it is not possible for AppGyver to update their Build Service without rewriting the entier Android part, which would cost them too much, Supersonic and Steroids being depreciated, Android is officially abandonned by AppGyver, the Build Service will stay as is for apps that are internally distributed but won't allow to build apps destinated for Play Store.
Edit: I found a solution that allow me to get the app accepted on the Play Store, but app will crash on Android 8.
I then tested to install my app from the Play Store on a Android 6 with success but as we could expect it crashes on Android 8, the edited Target SDK number dupes the Play Store so it lets the APK in, but in the end it hasn't been built with Android 8 capabilities, so it won't work on that version.
All I had to do was to import my APK in APK Icon Editor, go in the Properties tab, change the Target SDK value to 26 (be sure to keep a lower value in the Minimum SDK field as it's the one telling what Android version can actually instal your app, if it's high then older phones won't have access to your app), and click on Pack APK to generate a new signed APK that is accepted by the Play Store!
Its as easy as this:
I then tested to install my app from the Play Store on a Android 6 with success but as we could expect it crashes on Android 8, the edited Target SDK number dupes the Play Store so it lets the APK in, but in the end it hasn't been built with Android 8 capabilities, so it won't work on that version.
Edit: it seems like it also crashes on Android 7 :(
Appgyver is constantly working on their platform and bringing latest updates. hopefully soon this issue will be resolved as well.. try contacting their support
Hi I am trying to run an Android Program I have created that can connect to Firebase with Authentication using email and password but it seems that I cannot even authenticate due to the fact of them saying my Google Play Service is not up to date.
I am stump here as I have the latest google play services according to my SDK manager
and I don't think it is my code's problem as when I use my friend's phone for debugging it works but not when I am using the emulator.
How can I update my google play services in the Android Studio built-in emulator.
Since Google introduced Google Play Store images in Android SDK Tools 26.0.0 now emulators comes with installed Google Play Store.
When creating Emulator use images that support Google Playstore (currently Nexus 5 and Nexus 5x with android O)
From 26.0.3
Adds a new tab in the extended window for Google Play Store images that displays the Play Services version and a button to check for updates to Play Services.
Edit:
Make sure that you use emulator with playstore is installed. Check if you have sdk manager -> sdk platforms -> Android 8 -> Google Play ... system image installed. Download it. Create new emulator using that image.
I had the same issue and spent half a day working it out.
In your emulator, go to settings->apps->Google Play Services and compare the version used to what appears in your build.gradle file.
In my case the emulator was running an earlier version and no amount of updates seemed to change it.
In build.gradle, I changed the following:
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:9.6.1'
to
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:8.+'
After which I restarted android-studio and it worked flawlessly.
I was facing same issue, but i downgrade my play services version in build.gradle.
settings->apps->Google Play Services application check image
my google play services version is 10.2.98, that's why we need google-play-services(in module level build.gradle) version lower than our emulator's library version.
set the lower version from here, we can see 10.2.6 is better and set it in build.gradle like this
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-places:10.2.6'
and just simple, run app again.
Try to download and install the latest APK for Play Services as stated in this thread.
Based from Google documentation,
If you want to test your app on the emulator, expand the directory for Android 4.2.2 (API 17) or a higher version, select Google APIs, and install it. Then create a new AVD with Google APIs as the platform target.
Try to navigate to settings--> apps in your emulator and then find Google Play Services. Check the version number and use it in you build.gradle. To update it with the latest version, you can see it in these documentation and SO question.
Be noted that updates might not reach all users immediately, so your app should verify the version available before attempting to perform API transactions.
I get this warning, every time myapp's apk file upload on Google Play Store.
You uploaded an APK that uses Google Play services version 50890000. This will only work with Android API levels of 9 and above. It is discouraged to use this Google Play services version unless you have set the minSdkVersion in your manifest to 9 or higher
what does it mean?
It means that u use the Google Play service Version 50890000 - Google Play service requires Androids API Version 9 (or higher). It seems like you have a lower version specified in your manifest file. But to reflect the requirements of GPs it's recommented to set it also to set your Apps min required API version to 9.
For mor specific information about the minSdkVersion attribute take a look on https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/uses-sdk-element.html#min
I just made an app for android, so I try to upload it for ditribution through the play store, but when I upload the apk file, an error shows up saying that I use version 5208000 of the google play services, it say that I need to use version 5100000 or lower, it makes no sense it was just the version that the sdk manager downloaded. It does not have an option to download the previous one, I try to use compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:5.0.77' but it says that it is not found. How can I download it? I downloaded the google play services for froyo, I tried using the support library and nothing works. How come I cant use the latest version?
Google Play Services 5.2.08 is the Google Fit Developer Preview and not yet available on all devices. You should use 5.0.89 (which replaced 5.0.77 due to issues in 5.0.77) for production apps at this time.
I have minSdk set to 8 (Froyo) because of client's wish. Google Play won't allow me to upload new .apk. This is what it says:

Is there any chance to support versions older than Gingerbread?
Thanks in advance.
You have to use an older version of the Google Play Services to be Froyo compatible.
change in your build.gradle file to:
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:4.1.+'
ps.: but I strongly advise in explaning to the client that Froyo is dead and gone and users that still have those devices are users that usually only make phone calls and SMS. They never go to Google Play to download new apps because their devices are too old and are not able to run any modern app properly.
