Search View not respond when click in AppCompat Toolbar - android

I write code like this, but it doesnt work.
I just inflate menu in java, nothing else.
I'm using toolbar(v7) instead of actionBar.
Any problem in here??
(No Clicked effect- too.)
<item android:id="#+id/action_search"
android:title="Search"
android:icon="#drawable/abc_ic_search_api_mtrl_alpha"
app:showAsAction="always|collapseActionView"
app:theme="#style/MySearchViewStyle"
app:actionViewClass="android.support.v7.widget.SearchView" />

Try this. Because, This one Works for me ...
<menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto">
<item
android:id="#+id/action_search"
android:icon="#android:drawable/ic_menu_search"
app:showAsAction="always"
app:actionViewClass="android.support.v7.widget.SearchView"
android:title="Search"/>
</menu>

How to show always 5 items in Action mode menu like WhatsApp in Android toolbar

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto">
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_reply"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_reply_white_24dp"
android:title="Reply"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_favourite"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_grade_white_24dp"
android:title="Favourite"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_info"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_info_outline_white_24dp"
android:title="Info"
android:visible="false"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_delete"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_delete_white_24dp"
android:title="Delete"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_copy"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_content_copy_white_24dp"
android:title="Copy"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_right_arrow"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_arrow_right_bold_white_24dp"
android:title="Forward"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_message"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_arrow_right_bold_white_24dp"
android:title="Message xyz"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_call"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_arrow_right_bold_white_24dp"
android:title="Call xyz"
app:showAsAction="always" />
</menu>
I'm using Action mode menu while long click on list item. It is always showing max 2 items, even it has space to show more items in Action mode menu. I'm assigning android:showAsAction = "always" for all the items. I'm expecting to design screen like WhatsApp long press showing 5 items with icons.
Use android:showAsAction="always" property along with app:showAsAction="always".
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_reply"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_reply_white_24dp"
android:title="Reply"
app:showAsAction="always"
android:showAsAction="always" />
Use import android.support.v7.view.ActionMode and
yourActionMode = startSupportActionMode(mActionModeCallback)
it solves this problem.

How to change margin or padding of menu items?

Noob question. I'm using Toolbar and menu in Android app. How i can to change margin or padding between two menu items?
All answers i found is about Sharlock bar (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15678467/how-to-add-padding-between-menu-items-in-android) or old Action bar (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/21131814/how-to-padding-between-actionbars-menu-items-icon-when-using-the-support-librare).
I think the answer near with style files, but i realy stack what parent or item name i need for my case.
My sample menu:
<menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" tools:context=".MainActivity">
<item android:id="#+id/menu_contents"
android:title="#string/menu_contents"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_format_list_numbered"
android:orderInCategory="2"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item android:id="#+id/menu_search"
android:title="#string/menu_search"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_search"
android:orderInCategory="100"
app:showAsAction="always" />
<item android:id="#+id/menu_settings"
android:title="#string/menu_settings"
android:orderInCategory="100"
app:showAsAction="never" />
Thank you!
You'll want to programmatically assign an ActionProvider using setActionProvider() on the MenuItem that gets created for the items you want to change.

How to add Android actionmenu text

How to add a text view in my Action bar to show data in android application.
Following is my menu.xml
<menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" tools:context=".MainActivity">
<menu>
<item
android:id="#+id/action_log"
android:title="#string/action_log"
android:showAsAction="never"/>
<item
android:id="#+id/account_log"
android:title="#string/accountlog"
android:showAsAction="never"/>
<item android:id="#+id/logout"
android:title="Logout"
android:showAsAction="never"/>
</menu>
</menu>
Any changes required in strings.xml?
Change
android:showAsAction="never"
to
android:showAsAction="ifRoom"
Please check the correct case of ifRoom, I am not quite sure.
Solved by Using custom action bar Thank you all

Icon of the menu item doesn't show up in the Action Bar if it is from app drawable folders

When I do like this it works:
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_show_location"
android:title="#string/menu_show_location"
android:icon="#android:drawable/ic_dialog_map"
app:showAsAction="always"/>
But if I take icon from app drawable:
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_show_location"
android:title="#string/menu_show_location"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_action_place"
app:showAsAction="ifRoom"/>
the menu item doesn't show up nor in the menu nor in the action bar either.
Full xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto">
<item android:id="#+id/action_settings"
android:title="#string/action_settings"
android:orderInCategory="100"
app:showAsAction="never" />
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_show_location"
android:title="#string/menu_show_location"
android:icon="#android:drawable/ic_dialog_map"
app:showAsAction="always"/>
<!--android:icon="#drawable/ic_action_place"-->
</menu>
What can be a problem?
Try this,
<item
android:id="#+id/menu_show_location"
android:title="#string/menu_show_location"
<!--android:icon="#android:drawable/ic_dialog_map"-->
<!-- need to add an order-->
android:orderInCategory="200"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_action_place"
app:showAsAction="always"/>
In situations like that changing icon color or app theme may helps ))
