I want to put png image over button i tried android:background but the png takes all the button what i want exactly is to use the logo png over button like this
the info logo is my png and "about" comes from the button text
u can use this:
android:drawableTop="#drawable/SomeIcon"
so then you get this:
<Button
android:id="#+id/damage"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
android:text="about"
android:drawableTop="#android:drawable/ic_menu_info_details"/>
it works for me :)
You can use a FrameLayout. In a FrameLayout, the z-index is defined by the order in which the items are added, for example
<FrameLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/button_text" />
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/my_drawable"
android:scaleType="fitCenter"/>
</FrameLayout>
In this instance, the ImageView would be drawn on top of the Button, along the bottom center of the Button.
You can check this thread
Basically, you can use:
<ImageButton
android:id="#+id/ImageButton01"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/album_icon"
android:background="#drawable/round_button" />
As the thread says.
Take a RelativeLayout, place ImageView inside it. Now set onClickListener on RelativeLayout.
By this way you can create more complex buttons.
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/your_btn_id"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" />
</RelativeLayout>
you can use
android:drawableTop
to put drawable at top of Button and use appropriate padding to make it position well.
<Buttton
android:layout_width="99dp"
android:layout_height="99dp"
android:background = "#drawable/bg" />
bg is your custom image.

I have 2 layouts in my xml, a CircularImageView and a ImageView, and the ImageView must appear on top of the CircularImageView.
I've tried:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/fragment_kids_register_ll_kid"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/md_white_1000"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<RelativeLayout
android:padding="16dp"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<com.mikhaellopez.circularimageview.CircularImageView
android:id="#+id/fragment_kids_row_img_kids"
android:layout_width="70dp"
android:layout_height="70dp"
android:src="#drawable/ic_boy"
/>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/fragment_kids_row_iv_crown"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/fragment_kids_row_img_kids"
android:layout_marginLeft="-26dp"
android:layout_marginTop="-22dp"
android:layout_width="48dp"
android:layout_height="48dp"
android:src="#drawable/ic_crown"/>
</RelativeLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/fragment_kids_row_tv_name"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="20dp"
android:textColor="#color/md_black_1000"
android:textSize="24sp" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/fragment_kids_row_tv_age"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:text="1 ano e 4 meses"
android:textColor="#808080"
android:textSize="12sp" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
And it is getting cut off:
I need the image to be shown exactly at that position in the picture, but not "cropped", what I am missing here ?
BTW, this component is part of a RecyclerView row.
EDIT ---
I forgot to mention, the image is just a placeholder to show the Avatar, but the image is dinamically populated !
Thanks !
The padding (16dp) that you are applying to the first relativeLayout makes you think that there is more place and that you can move up the imageView. Actually the margin is like a gap, it doesn't extend your layout.
This is the solution I suggest , using a FrameLayout
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:layout_height="100dp">
<com.mikhaellopez.circularimageview.CircularImageView
android:id="#+id/fragment_kids_row_img_kids"
android:layout_gravity = "center"
android:layout_width="70dp"
android:layout_height="70dp"
android:src="#drawable/ic_boy"
/>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/fragment_kids_row_iv_crown"
android:layout_width="48dp"
android:layout_height="48dp"
android:src="#drawable/ic_crown"
android:layout_gravity="right|top" />
</FrameLayout>
EDIT : You don't have to use a frameLayout, you can use a relativeLayout if you want to set different margins. The point here is really to make your containing layout bigger so you can place the imageview easily.
If you want one image to be on top of another, why you use android:layout_toRightOf?
Remove it and second image should cover first one.
Also you can try to remove margins at second image and use centerInParent, centerVertically or centerHorizontally.
Or maybe I didn't got all the problem ) then pls provide more details. Thanks.
Have you tried Using an image editor like Paint/Photoshop and merging the two images? Then you can just display one image in your view.
try using a linear layout with the orientation set to vertical.
Say I have an ImageButton. I want a textview on top of the imagebutton, and centered on it. How would I do this?
you could do it by wrapping both widgets in a FrameLayout
for example:
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<ImageButton
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:src="#drawable/image" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/text"
android:layout_gravity="center" />
</FrameLayout>
Use a regular Button, which extends TextView anyway. Then set the background to your image and use setText() to set your text. You can even add icons above, below and/or left & right of the text with the drawableLeft,drawableTop,etc attributes.
You Are overcomplicating your layout. Just add text to the button.
myImageButton.setText("text");
If you really do want to layer these views, you should use a RelativeLayout:
<RealtiveLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<ImageButton
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:src="#drawable/img"/>
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/app_name"
android:layout_centerInParent="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>
Make a special note of the attribute layout_centerInParent . this is how the TextView is correctly centered.
May i ask how to put icon on my button like the image below?
And also where can i have resources or sample resources of buttons like this?
You'll need to set the drawable to the left of your Button. Either via xml or programmatically.
Either create a button and set a compound drawable or create an ImageButton.
<TextView android:id="#+id/login_with_facebook"
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:height="48dp"
android:text="FACEBOOK"
android:gravity="center"
android:drawableLeft="#drawable/facebook_icon_48_x_48"
android:clickable="true"/>
<Button android:drawableLeft="#drawable/image"
android:text="facebook"/>
If u want space between image and text, then give drawablePadding Like:
<Button android:drawableLeft="#drawable/image"
android:text="facebook"
android:drawablePadding="10dp"/>
using RelativeLayout it can be done easily. here I got snippet for you,
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true">
<Button
android:id="#+id/fb_logo_button"
android:text=""
android:background="fb_logo"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="match_parent"/>
<Button
android:layout_toRightOf="#id/fb_logo_button"
android:id="#+id/fb_text_button"
android:text="Facebook"
android:textAlignment="center"
android:background="#android:color/holo_blue_bright"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="match_parent"/>
</RelativeLayout>
this will ensure that whatever your images are for respective DPIs, it will align this layout to center horizontally. Within this layout logo will be always to left of text as in picture.
This is applicable when your parent is also a RelativeLayout. If you got LinearLayout as parent then in above RelativeLayout tag change android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" to android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
I can't test it in eclipse as I'm out of home. Try this and let me know. Thanks.
I try to put a regular button inside an image in android XML. How can it be done? I tried something like this:
<ImageView .......
<Button .... />
</ImageView>
where the dots represent code. Apparently this is not the way because the platform threw an exception.
Can anyone help?
Use relative layout to insert button on the image.
your image should be given in background tag of RelativeLayout.
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:background="#drawable/list_nav"
>
<Button
android:layout_width="63dp"
android:layout_height="36dp"
android:id="#+id/mapbutton"
android:layout_marginTop="7dp"
android:layout_marginLeft="4dp"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
/>
this Example adds button on left side of the image since i used layout_alignParentLeft="true"
You can use FrameLayout:
<FrameLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/linearLayout1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" >
<ImageView android:id="#+id/myImage"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:src="#drawable/icon" />
<Button android:id="#+id/myButton"
android:layout_width="150dip"
android:layout_height="150dip"
android:text="My Button"/>
</FrameLayout>
You don't write why you need image and button. Do you know about ImageButton?
#Uriel Frankel you may try creating a custom ImageView either.Here is a post regarding Creating Custom ImageView.
Hope it helps.
I want to have a button that has an image on top and some text on bottom. Both the image and text are decided during runtime, so I want to be able to combine ImageButton's setImageBitmap and Button's setText for each button.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chris
Surround both image Button and text View code in .... to override text on image button's background. i.e:
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<ImageButton
android:id="#+id/imageButton1"
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:layout_height="100dp"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_marginLeft="69dp"
android:layout_marginTop="96dp"
android:background="#drawable/icon"
android:scaleType="fitXY" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/text"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:text="Droid"
android:textColor="#ff0000"
android:textSize="24dip" >
</TextView>
</FrameLayout>
I finally found what I was looking for:
setCompoundDrawablesWithIntrinsicBounds lets me assign a bitmap/drawable for a Button, at the same time letting me use setText.
For eg: To set a bitmap image on top of the button, do something like
button.setCompoundDrawablesWithIntrinsicBounds(null, new BitmapDrawable(bitmapimage), null, null);
I don't think there is an easy way to do that.
I would create a custom-component.
