Android - Mediaplayer Audio Streaming, rewind and forward - android

I have an android app that streams audio by URL (its an infinite stream) and it works. But I need to allow users to rewind X seconds and forward X seconds ( you can only forward if you rewind before )
here's the code
public class MainActivity extends Activity implements View.OnClickListener {
private final String TAG = "Main";
private Button buttonPlay;
private MediaPlayer player;
private boolean paused = false;
private SeekBar volumeSeekbar = null;
private AudioManager audioManager = null;
private Button forward, rewind;
private void initControls()
{
try
{
volumeSeekbar = (SeekBar)findViewById(R.id.volume);
audioManager = (AudioManager) getSystemService(Context.AUDIO_SERVICE);
volumeSeekbar.setMax(audioManager
.getStreamMaxVolume(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC));
volumeSeekbar.setProgress(audioManager
.getStreamVolume(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC));
volumeSeekbar.setOnSeekBarChangeListener(new SeekBar.OnSeekBarChangeListener()
{
#Override
public void onStopTrackingTouch(SeekBar arg0)
{
}
#Override
public void onStartTrackingTouch(SeekBar arg0)
{
}
#Override
public void onProgressChanged(SeekBar arg0, int progress, boolean arg2)
{
audioManager.setStreamVolume(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC,
progress, 0);
}
});
}
catch (Exception e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
setVolumeControlStream(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC);
initControls();
initializeUIElements();
initializeMediaPlayer();
}
private void initializeUIElements() {
buttonPlay = (Button) findViewById(R.id.buttonPlay);
rewind = (Button) findViewById(R.id.rewind);
forward = (Button) findViewById(R.id.forward);
buttonPlay.setOnClickListener(this);
rewind.setOnClickListener(this);
forward.setOnClickListener(this);
}
public void onClick(View v) {
if (v == buttonPlay) {
if(!player.isPlaying())
{
Log.d(TAG,"Encender");
if(!paused) {
player.prepareAsync();
player.setOnPreparedListener(new MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener() {
public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mp) {
player.start();
}
});
}
else
player.start();
}
else
{
Log.d(TAG,"Pausar");
player.pause();
paused = true;
}
}
if(v==rewind){
Log.d(TAG,"RW");
if(player.isPlaying()){
//TODO: CODE FOR REWIND
}
}
if( v== forward){
Log.d(TAG,"FW");
if(player.isPlaying()){
//TODO: CODE FOR FORWARD
}
}
}
private void initializeMediaPlayer() {

try {
player.setDataSource("MYURL");
} catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IllegalStateException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
player.setOnBufferingUpdateListener(new MediaPlayer.OnBufferingUpdateListener() {
public void onBufferingUpdate(MediaPlayer mp, int percent) {
Log.i("Buffering", "" + percent);
}
});
}
#Override
protected void onPause() {
super.onPause();
if (player.isPlaying()) {
}
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.menu_main, menu);
return true;
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle action bar item clicks here. The action bar will
// automatically handle clicks on the Home/Up button, so long
// as you specify a parent activity in AndroidManifest.xml.
int id = item.getItemId();
//noinspection SimplifiableIfStatement
if (id == R.id.action_settings) {
return true;
}
return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
public void showOKDialog(Activity ac, String msg){
AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(ac);
builder.setMessage(msg)
.setCancelable(false)
.setPositiveButton("OK", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) {
//do things
}
});
AlertDialog alert = builder.create();
alert.show();
}
}
could you help me with this please?
anybody knows an appropriate way to do this?
Thanks!

android set seekbar to initial and toggle play button to pause when music finish

i am designing a mediaplayer from scratch so what i am getting stuck in is that when the song finish to play i want to set seekbar to initial value
i know this can be done with
seekBar.setProgress(0)
but this don't work with me and i want the play button to switch back to pause button and if the user play song again than the song will be played normally
here is my code of media player and hope you tell me what is the logic and how to place it
public class MusicPlayerActivity extends AppCompatActivity implements Runnable,
SeekBar.OnSeekBarChangeListener {
ImageView playpause;
SeekBar seekBar;
MediaPlayer mp = null;
int len = 0;
boolean isPlaying = false;
public MusicPlayerActivity() throws IOException {
}
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_music_player);
String url = getIntent().getExtras().getString("musicurl");
playpause = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.imageView);
seekBar = (SeekBar)findViewById(R.id.seekBar);
playpause.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View view) {
if(!isPlaying){
playpause.setImageResource(R.drawable.pause);
mp.pause();
len = mp.getCurrentPosition();
seekBar.setEnabled(false);
}else{
playpause.setImageResource(R.drawable.play);
mp.seekTo(len);
mp.start();
seekBar.setEnabled(true);
}
isPlaying = !isPlaying;
}
});
mp = new MediaPlayer();
try {
mp.setDataSource(url);
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
try {
mp.prepare();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
//if(mp.isPlaying()) mp.stop(); mp.release();
mp.start();
seekBar.setMax(mp.getDuration());
new Thread(this).start();
// Toast.makeText(this, mp.getDuration(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
//if(mp.isPlaying()){}
#Override
public void onProgressChanged(SeekBar seekBar, int progress,
boolean fromUser) {
try {
if (mp.isPlaying() || mp != null) {
if (fromUser)
mp.seekTo(progress);
} else if (mp == null) {
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Media is not running",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
seekBar.setProgress(0);
}
} catch (Exception e) {
Log.e("seek bar", "" + e);
seekBar.setEnabled(false);
}
}
#Override
public void onStartTrackingTouch(SeekBar seekBar) {
}
#Override
public void onStopTrackingTouch(SeekBar seekBar) {
}
public void run() {
int currentPosition = mp.getCurrentPosition();
int total = mp.getDuration();
while (mp != null && currentPosition < total) {
try {
Thread.sleep(1000);
currentPosition = mp.getCurrentPosition();
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
return;
} catch (Exception e) {
return;
}
seekBar.setProgress(currentPosition);
}
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
switch (item.getItemId()) {
case android.R.id.home:
mp.stop();
startActivity(new Intent(this,MainActivity.class));
break;
}
return true;
}
#Override
public void onBackPressed() {
Intent mainActivity = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN);
mainActivity.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_HOME);
mainActivity.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
startActivity(mainActivity);
}
}
You are not setting the listener : seekbar.setOnSeekBarChangeListener(this)
Add seekbar.setOnSeekBarChangeListener(this); in your onCreate otherwise the onProgressChanged() does not get called.
To reset progress bar look into the following approach:
Set OnCompletionListener on your media player instance. When the media file completes playing, your can carry out the required actions in OnCompletion(MediaPlayer mp) callback function.
Adding following code snippet before mp.start() should work for you.
mp.setOnCompletionListener(new OnCompletionListener() {
#Override
public void onCompletion(MediaPlayer mp) {
seekBar.setProgress(0); // sets seekbar to initial position.
toggleViews();//implement this function to toggle your play/pause button
}
});

Any help would be appreciated, this is my first time doing this type of development.
I had the same problem... It has to be just the IP address with port number.
For this:
private final String URL = "http://37.187.193.36:8002/listen.pls";
Replace with:
private final String URL = "http://37.187.193.36:8002/";
So I got it to work finally in the end....First of all, thanks to #TennyTech.com for the little hint.
So to help ye people out, I will have an ans up on my github repo by tonight hopefully :) But do keep an eye out.
Hope this helps,

Audio Streaming Seekbar Hides while song is playing

I can't find a way to stop hiding the seekbar. As soon as the song plays the seekbar hides after 2-3 sec. I am really new into this so not really sure how I can approach to this issue. I tried putting mediaController.show() into my methods when the song is playing but no luck. I found this code from a Youtube Channel below is the code:

Playing audio file in android

I got stuck with one requirement i need to play a media file in android.I will post the screen shot of the page
Actual requirement is the user wants to play the audio file in his recordings list.The recordings list are shown through list adapter.I want to display the play progress of the audio file on the same page(as like shown in the screen shot).
Iam pasting the code which i have tried.
public class RecordingActivity extends ListActivity implements MediaPlayerControl {
MediaPlayer mMediaPlayer;
MediaController mMediaController;
Handler mHandler;
String OUTPUT_FILE;
RelativeLayout rl;
Context context = null;
Point p;
static final String[] recordings = new String[] {"Example1","Example2",
"Example3","Example4","Example5" };
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setListAdapter(new FirstAdapter(this, recordings));
}
#Override
protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) {
showPopup(RecordingActivity.this, p);
// get selected items
mMediaPlayer = new MediaPlayer();
mMediaController = new MediaController(this);
mHandler = new Handler();
mMediaController.setMediaPlayer(RecordingActivity.this);
OUTPUT_FILE = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/recorder.mp3";
try{
mMediaPlayer.setDataSource(OUTPUT_FILE);
mMediaPlayer.prepare();
}
catch(Exception e){
}
mMediaPlayer.setOnPreparedListener(new MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener() {
#Override
public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mp) {
mHandler.post(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
mMediaController.show(10000);
mMediaPlayer.start();
mMediaController.setEnabled(true);
}
});
}
});
}
private void showPopup(final Activity context, Point p) {
int popupWidth = 200;
int popupHeight = 150;
// Inflate the popup_layout.xml
RelativeLayout viewGroup = (RelativeLayout) context.findViewById(R.id.reviewlist);
LayoutInflater layoutInflater = (LayoutInflater) context
.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View layout = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.activity_play, viewGroup);
// Creating the PopupWindow
final PopupWindow popup = new PopupWindow(context);
popup.setContentView(layout);
popup.setWidth(popupWidth);
popup.setHeight(popupHeight);
popup.setFocusable(true);
// Some offset to align the popup a bit to the right, and a bit down, relative to button's position.
int OFFSET_X = 30;
int OFFSET_Y = 30;
// Clear the default translucent background
popup.setBackgroundDrawable(new BitmapDrawable());
// Displaying the popup at the specified location, + offsets.
popup.showAtLocation(layout, Gravity.NO_GRAVITY,p.x+OFFSET_X,p.y+OFFSET_Y);
// Getting a reference to Close button, and close the popup when clicked.
ImageButton close = (ImageButton) layout.findViewById(R.id.close);
Button b1 =(Button) layout.findViewById(R.id.button1);
Button b2 =(Button) layout.findViewById(R.id.button2);
close.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
popup.dismiss();
}
});
}
#Override
protected void onDestroy() {
super.onDestroy();
mMediaPlayer.stop();
mMediaPlayer.release();
}
#Override
public boolean canPause() {
return true;
}
#Override
public boolean canSeekBackward() {
return false;
}
#Override
public boolean canSeekForward() {
return false;
}
#Override
public int getBufferPercentage() {
int percentage = (mMediaPlayer.getCurrentPosition() * 100) / mMediaPlayer.getDuration();
return percentage;
}
#Override
public int getCurrentPosition() {
return mMediaPlayer.getCurrentPosition();
}
#Override
public int getDuration() {
return mMediaPlayer.getDuration();
}
#Override
public boolean isPlaying() {
return mMediaPlayer.isPlaying();
}
#Override
public void pause() {
if(mMediaPlayer.isPlaying())
mMediaPlayer.pause();
}
#Override
public void seekTo(int pos) {
mMediaPlayer.seekTo(pos);
}
#Override
public void start() {
mMediaPlayer.start();
mMediaController.show();
}
#Override
public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) {
mMediaController.show();
return false;
}
}
The problem am facing is i am able to play the audio file ,but it is not showing any popup layout.
Media player
MediaPlayer mp = new MediaPlayer();
// Set data source -
setDataSource("/sdcard/path_to_song");
// Play audio
mp.start();
// Pause audio
mp.pause();
// Reset mediaplayer
mp.reset();
// Get song length duration - in milliseconds
mp.getDuration();
// Get current duration - in milliseconds
mp.getCurrentDuration();
// Move song to particular second - used for Forward or Backward
mp.seekTo(positon); // position in milliseconds
// Check if song is playing or not
mp.isPlaying(); // returns true or false
Hope this will give you some solution. Refer this link. It will solve your problem

setLooping don't work in my videoplayer

I am a Android newbie. I want to design my personal videoplayer to play streaming music, so I use MediaPlayer and SurfaceView. The project plays streaming video successfully, but it can't be setloop. I have google many articles and read Android Developer. I can't figure out why mediaPlayer.setLooping(true) don't work here. Thanks^^
mediaPlayer.reset();
mediaPlayer.setDataSource(videoUrl);
mediaPlayer.setLooping(true);
mediaPlayer.prepare();
