since several days ago, I found that there was not any running android device in the "Android Device Chooser" windoo run aw anymore when I started tn android application from eclipse. But my android phone (a device produced by HUAWEI and running android 4.1) was actually connected with my computer with debug mode on and it had no such problem before. A temporary method to fix this problem is to replug the usb cable of my phone every time I run an application which is very inconvenient and hurt the usb port badly.
An interesting thing is my device is in the devices list with online status in the DDMS perspective. Does any one know what the cause of this problem or this means the usb port of my phone is broken?
(ps:no adb disconnected error is presented)
You need to set the minSdkVersion of your Application to be less than the Android Version installed on your Device.
You can do it by changing the android:minSdkVersion value in your Manifest.xml File.
In your case this should be android:minSdkVersion="14"
Edit :
Use ADB Restart Method:
1. Launch Terminal.
2. Navigate to Platform-tools directory (It is located in Android SDKs directory).
3. type the following commands in Terminal Command # 1: ./adb kill-server Command # 2: ./adb start-server
4. Hopefully, your Android Device will be visible when you run your Android Application Project.
I hope this helps.

I just upgraded my Android device to 4.4.2 and now Eclipse will not be able to choose a running Android device when I want to run my project. The Android Device Chooser shows my device up with a serial number as "????????????" and Target as "unknown" and State as "??". Additionally, I have enabled Developer Options with USB Debugging.
what os are you using. i see that on my linux box with some devices. i normally kill adb and restart it as root and the devices shows up and works correctly. found that solution years ago on stack overflow or something like that. not sure if the same thing is needed with windows/osx. on linux, assuming adb is in your path:
$ killall adb
$ sudo adb devices
otherwise os you're trying to connect it to and the specific device information would probably be helpful in tracking it down.
I have a few suggestions. Try them in this order until it works.
Reboot the phone.
Try turning off and then back on "USB Debugging" on your phone (in Developer Options probably).
open cmd > go to the your Android SDK directory > type cd platform-tools > type ./adb kill-server > then finally type ./adb start-server

The solution for my device after updating was to completely uninstall the device driver from device manager and reinstalling it. I am using windows and my mobile was shown as Android Phone and not as Nexus 7. Home it helps someone.
I am trying to use my Nexus 4 to run a hello world app. I'm using the Java ADT with Eclipse.
I cannot detect the device.
Nexus 4: Android 4.4.2
Java ADT: build v22.3.0-887826
Windows 7 Professional x64
Java JDK: jdk-7u51-windows-x64
ADB v1.0.31
Project build target is 4.4.2 (API 19). Minimum required version is API 8.
./adb devices shows no devices.
I am in USB debugging mode on the device. I have allowed installation of non-play-store apps.
My computer detects the phone as a media device (MTP), not as a camera (PTP).
I do not get a prompt asking me if I accept an RSA key.
Things I have tried:
Download USB drivers from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#top then:
Start > Properties > Device Manager > Portable Devices > Nexus 4 > Properties > Update Driver > Browse > {Download Folder}
I get a popup telling me that the drivers are up to date.

How do I deploy HelloWorld app to HTC Eris Droid?
EDIT: I tried to enable ADB over wifi. So I installed ADB WiFi off the play store. It needs root permission, so I tried to root my phone using Kingo Root. Kingo Root does not work. It's giving me the message "No Device Connected!". I can transfer files from the device, and it gets detected when I plug it in, so I don't know it what capacity it "is not connected".
EDIT2: I tried to enable ADB over wifi as described here: How can I connect to Android with ADB over TCP?
adb tcpip 5555 gives me "error: device not found". Looks like inability to detect the device is a common failure mode. I suspect that fixing that will let everything else work as intended.
Android debugging via usb can be a bit hit-and-miss. I have one phone that never connects, one that rarely connects, and one that seems to work pretty much every time (I still have to do the 'unplug/replug/restart' shuffle from time to time)
I would suggest investigating WiFi ADB. If it works with your device (not all devices support it) then it'll save you a lot of time in the long term:
Install one of the various WiFi debug apps from the market
Run it and note the IP address and port it gives you
Navigate to where your android sdk platfrom tools are installed (a default Windows install should be C:\Android\sdk\platform-tools
Type adb connect [ipaddress]:[portno] (ex adb connect 192.168.1.100:5555)
If your device supports wifi debugging, it should show up in Eclipse within a couple of seconds, and you never need to do the plug in/unplug/restart shuffle again!
You don't need any third-party application. See this answer and set-up WiFi debugging with ADB.
EDIT:
You don't need root also.
Check my answer here: You should install the correct drivers its really easy by following the steps from the video
Hope that helps! :)

I was developing an android application from Eclipse, connecting my Acer ICONIATAB A 500, with Android 3.0.1. And I did not have any problem.
Now I'm trying to developing the same application on Acer ICONIATAB A 501, with Android 3.2
and my ADB can't find the new device, while Windows can find it! I set in my tablet Debug USB option active, and I installed the appropriate driver on Windows.
I installed even the last Google USB driver (Rev. 7)
I tried to list the device find form adb with command
adb devices
from command line, but List of devices attached is empty.
What can i do?
execute these line
adb kill-server
adb start-server
if it is mobile device check that in settings, developers options , debugging mode is checked or not
You need to install LGUnitedMobileDriver package from the LG website, even though Windows 7 automatically installed USB drivers for the phone.
Try to update your Android-SDK on your computer (in Eclipse or whatever IDE you are using), this helped me solve a similar Problem.
I am running Android SDK 2.2 and am trying to get the adb to connect to the Google Nexus One phone. Its a new phone, shipped straight from Google - haven't installed any apps on it yet.
(I have Windows XP)
Here is what I have done so far:
Followed the instructions on setting up the device for development as given on the Android Developer's site:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html
added android:debuggable="true" to my application manifest
USB debuggable is checked on the phone
downloaded the Device Drivers For Windows Revision 3 (this supports Nexus One phones)
Went through the Hardware Installation wizard to install the device - the device shows up as "Android Composite ADB Interface".
When I run adb devices on the shell, the device appears for a moment, then disappears.
On the Eclipse console, I get the following message:
[2010-11-13 11:54:42 - DeviceMonitor]Failed to start monitoring
I have rebooted the pc several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several times, but I get the same error each time. As I was researching this problem, someone had recommended rebooting the phone. I am a bit confused by that - is that a soft or hard reboot? Do I just power the phone off/on and is there something more complex involved? Do I have to hard reboot it to reset to factory version - even though its brand new?
Has anyone run into a similar problem? Any help on this would be great.
I can't test my application on the device if the adb cannot view the device. Thanks so much in advance.
I had this same problem. To get it working, do the following:
Close Eclipse
Open Task Manager and kill the adb.exe program.
Re-open Eclipse (Eclipse will automatically restart the adb.exe service)
Run adb devices from a command prompt and you should see something like the following:
C:\> adb devices
List of devices attached
0123456789ABCDEF device
Of course, I'm assuming you have your phone plugged into your computer.
It sounds like something is killing the service as soon as it starts. Try disabling any anti-virus and running adb devices again. You can also check your system logs for errors - run compmgmt.msc and check the Event Viewer's logs.
When I run adb devices on the shell, the device appears for a moment, then disappears
Do you mean Windows' command shell cmd.exe? The output of 'adb devices' doesn't update itself, it should just print out what's currently connected then terminate.
Nothing here worked for me. And you know what? I plugged it to my USB 3.0 port.
Just plug it to regular USB 2.0 and it'll work.
Hi you jst need upgrade your usb driver, follow this ref link, after upgrading you need to uncheck USB debugging, disconnect cable from device and then check USB debugging and connect cable to device again. this'll solve your problem..

I had this same problem. Do the following:
Plug your phone into your computer and:
Run the command prompt.
Go to the tools location of the android sdk.
run 'adb kill-server'
then run 'adb start-server'.
Turn off COMODO Firewall and Defense+ module
I got my Nexus One on Windows 7 64 bit going by following these instructions:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
Note that the directory has changed to /extras/google/usb_driver.
You know that you need to do this if you go to control panel->devices and printers and show properties on the device, and there's no driver shown.
Open the task manager by Ctrl+Shift+Esc
In the Processes select adb.exe and Click the End process Button.
Now close the eclipse and restart it again.
This worked for me. Hope this would work for you as well.
