I am trying to make a imageview in android but during the execution I find this e error in Resource id cannot be an empty string (at 'id' with value '#+id/').
Yo have to declare an ID
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="schemas.android.com/apk/res/android";
xmlns:tools="schemas.android.com/tools";
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".MainActivity"
android:id="#+id/ExampleID"> // Give your Id here..
do it like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ImageButton
android:id="#+id/btnSpeak"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="10dp"
android:layout_marginRight="10dp"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:contentDescription="#string/speak"
android:src="#android:drawable/ic_btn_speak_now" />
</LinearLayout>

I've got a problem with a background while writing in EditText on my phone.
My background is changing size, and not keeping right proportions.
I would like it to be hidden behind keyboard.
This is my full code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"

Before writing in EditText:
While writing in EditText:
in AndroidManifest try to add to your activity's body this: android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan"
I am very new to android development and was in the process of trying to create my first process when I came across the build error with which the question is titled.
Here is my XML code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app= ""
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/activity_main"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context="com.example.austinc.clicker.MainActivity">
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="0"
android:id="#+id/textViewCount"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:textSize="24dp" />
<Button
android:text="Reset"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/ButtonClick"
android:layout_alignLeft="#+id/ButtonClick"
android:layout_alignStart="#+id/ButtonClick"
android:layout_marginTop="61dp"
android:id="#+id/buttonReset" />
<Button
android:text="Click"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="55dp"
android:id="#+id/ButtonClick"
android:layout_below="#+id/textViewCount"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" />
</RelativeLayout>
From what I can infer by double clicking on the error, the problem has to do with the second line of code (the meaning of which I have no idea). Is this a quick fix, or have I made a mistake somewhere in editing some piece of code?
I also faced the same issue, searched for 15 minutes and found the solution, i modified first three lines in content_main.xml
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
tools:context="com.example.user.demoapp.MainActivity"
tools:showIn="#layout/activity_main">
I'm new to android and trying to learn some basic stuff, My problem is if i paste this line android:layout_gravity="center" in the default "activity_main.xml" file I'm getting the error in the title but if I delete the line the error disappears!
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context="com.example.helloworld.MainActivity" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:textSize="70dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
andriod:layout_gravity="center"
android:text="#string/hello_world"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
I appreciate any help
Your error is simple
Instead of
andriod:layout_gravity
write
android:layout_gravity
I'm trying to put a TextView on top, another on bottom, and a ListView in between using the remaining space.
However, my ListView is taking all the space to the bottom, making the last TextView to not even show up. The only way I can make it show up is to give the ListView a fixed height, like 100dp.
My layout:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".MainActivity" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_title"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/title_task_list"
style="?android:attr/listSeparatorTextViewStyle" />
<ListView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/id_task_list_title" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_test"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/id_task_list_view"
android:text="OMG Test" />
</RelativeLayout>
Use LinearLayout as follows:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".MainActivity"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_title"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/title_task_list"
style="?android:attr/listSeparatorTextViewStyle" />
<ListView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_test"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="OMG Test" />
</LinearLayout>
This should solve your issue by placing your ListView between the TextViews using both android:layout_above and android:layout_below :
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".MainActivity" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_title"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/title_task_list"
style="?android:attr/listSeparatorTextViewStyle" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_test"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:text="OMG Test" />
<ListView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#id/id_task_list_test"
android:layout_below="#id/id_task_list_title"/>
</RelativeLayout>
It can be achieved one of the two ways
1) Using Linear Layout (Straight forward)
2) Using Relative Layout with referencing the view position with respected to the other views.
In your case
1) Change Relative to LinearLayout and work will be done.
2)
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".MainActivity" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_title"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/title_task_list"
style="?android:attr/listSeparatorTextViewStyle" />
<ListView
android:layout_below="#+id/id_task_list_title"
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/id_task_list_title" />
<TextView
android:layout_below="#+id/id_task_list_view"
android:id="#+id/id_task_list_test"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/id_task_list_view"
android:text="OMG Test" />
</RelativeLayout>
This can be done through coding by getting the height of screen and alloting layout param width to list view like this
height of list view=screen height-(height of textView1+Height of textView2).
Instead of Using RelativeLayout , use LinearLayout with Orientation Vertical.
I think it solves your problem
Thank you
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".HelloActivity" >
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/hello_world"
</textview>
Not a concrete question, but Is there a difference between 'valid xml' and 'well formed xml'? and http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#sec-well-formed may be of help.
You forgot to end first TextView tag.
The must be between the tags like this:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".HelloActivity" >
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/hello_world" />
</RelativeLayout>
Just replace the below code : -
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/hello_world"
with : -
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/hello_world" />
If this works then please mark this answer as accepted.
