I'm trying to implement a Material style ActionBar using toolbar. So far I made a working Material style ActionBar but can't change its icon and text color. I've already set a
Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar
in style.xml and
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark"
as the toolbar theme.
Is there any way to change the text color and the black icons into the white ones?
Sources are given below,
Toolbar:

<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark" >
</android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar>
AppTheme:

activity_main.xml

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
tools:context="com.example.materialactionabar.MainActivity" >
<include layout="#layout/toolbar" />
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout
android:id="#+id/drawer_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
<fragment
android:id="#+id/navigation_drawer"
android:name="com.example.materialactionabar.NavigationDrawerFragment"
android:layout_width="240dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="start" />
</android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout>
In your styles just add as below:

true

#color/white

Complete code as below:
<resources>

values-21/styles.xml:

All of this code is based on the Google I/O Schedule App, however the DrawerLayout still does not render behind the status bar. Any ideas as to why this combination of solutions isn't working and what solutions might? I've found that drawing behind the status bar is never a one-size-fits-all solution, but after trying every combination of solutions on Stack Overflow that I can think of, I still can't get it.
Current drawer image:
Just add
true
in values-21/styles.xml and remove this
#android:color/transparent

add android:fitsSystemWindows="true" to your NavigationView in xml
Working example!

I am using Systembar tint library by ready state softwares to get get transculent status bar on kitkat.
Add this to your theme, this will make your toolbar transparent

#android:color/transparent

Add this in your colors xml for transparent color
<color name="transparent">#00000000</color>
Maybe this can help You:
Place all within a RelativeLayout with android:fitsSystemWindows="true":
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout

Thank you for your help.
Problem solved...
I was using a FragmentManager in a wrong way. The result was a duplication of some of my elements.
