For nearly 15 days I 'm stuck on the recording of frames in the event onPreviewFrame Android camera . My goal is very simple, I want to record five consecutive images at the click of a button. Only I do not want to block the preview of the camera , so I use the previewFrame . But during the recording of my image in jpeg on the sd card it is green and pink with many horizontal bars. A term I will send a list of byte [] on a Web API.
I already do a lot of research , trying to change the PictureSize and PreviewSize but nothing changes .
Another option would it not go through recording a video and extract the frame of it ?

Thank you in advance for your help
I think your problem might be when you try to setPreviewSize() according to the rotation of the camera. Please make sure that you set it to a supported preview size contained in parameters.getSupportedPreviewSizes() without swapping the dimensions.
I suspect your problem is that you are trying to swap a supported (width,height) pair and setting it to the camera and it's being rejected as a capture parameter, but it still being improperly used when telling the new YuvImage(...) constructor how to interpret the image byte array.

I get a "Fail to connect to camera service" exception when calling mCamera.setPreviewTexture().
According to the documentation (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.html#setPreviewDisplay%28android.view.SurfaceHolder%29), this is the expected behavior:
setPreviewDisplay()
Setting a preview surface will un-set any preview surface texture that was set via setPreviewTexture(SurfaceTexture).
(and vice-versa). Is there anything I can do to get these both displaying at the same time?
Send the Camera output to a SurfaceTexture, then render the texture wherever you like using GLES.
See e.g. the "texture from camera" activity in Grafika.
This requires some EGL management and a basic familiarity with GLES, though you can get pretty far just using the code in Grafika. This approach will get you much better performance than manipulating pixels with the NDK, because the GPU does all the work.
Camera is a shared hardware resource. I don't think you can access it (Camera.open()) more than once even within the same application i.e even within the same process with same user id. How about accessing the buffers for camera preview natively and then reading bytes from those buffers to render them on as many TextureViews or SurfaceViews or VideoViews as you wish?
Edited:

How do I get the raw Android camera buffer in C using JNI?
I am new in android development. My app should activate the camera to scan a QR code and decode it to a string. This works fine, but I have one more requirement: to present the camera view in a frame and with a logo in one of the corners. I did not find an appropriate API in zbar sdk to make the frame and attach the logo. This is my code:

How to customize the camera view for android? I saw some suggested solutions for iPhone, but zbar API for Android is totally different and much smaller. I would be appreciated to get any idea/hint...
To present a frame in cameraview, add an imageview in the framelayout(camerapreview) in main.xml .
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/cameraPreview"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:alpha="0.6"
android:src="#drawable/overlay" />
</FrameLayout>
Use this code to make the frame(imageview) visible. As the frame(imageview) is already present in the framelayout in main.xml we need to remove it first.
FrameLayout preview = (FrameLayout)findViewById(R.id.cameraPreview);
ImageView iv=(ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageView1);
preview.addView(mPreview);
preview.removeView(iv);
preview.addView(iv);
To scan the camerapreview only from your frame you need to use setCrop().Adjust the size of camerapreview according to the frame.
barcode.setData(data);
//this is in portrait mode
//barcode.setCrop(left,top,width,height).
barcode.setCrop(100,230,600,10);
This worked for me and hope it will solve your problem too. Please excuse me for my grammatical mistakes. Thank you.
I think it's easier then you thought:
In the example code provided by the ZBar guy there are those two lines in the onCreate() method:
FrameLayout preview = (FrameLayout) findViewById(R.id.cameraPreview);
preview.addView(mPreview);
which are responsible for adding the "preview view" to the camerPreview Layout.
Find the mentioned lines in your code, create a new ImageView and also add it to the preview-Layout like this:
ImageView v = new ImageView(this);
v.setImageResource(R.drawable.icon);
preview.addView(v);
Adjust the size and the position of your view v and you are done!
I faced the same problem. The solution is simply add the CameraPrevie in your xml inside a frameLayout, and just after that the image you want to put on top of is.
eg.:
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/captionFrame"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:layout_marginBottom="20dp"
android:layout_marginTop="50dp" >
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/cameraPreview"
android:layout_width="300dp"
android:layout_height="200dp"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:paddingLeft="-5dp" >
</FrameLayout>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/watermark"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="right|bottom"
android:src="#drawable/watermark" />
</FrameLayout>
and populate it from your activity:
Camera mCamera = getCameraInstance();
ImageScanner scanner = new ImageScanner();
scanner.setConfig(0, Config.X_DENSITY, 3);
scanner.setConfig(0, Config.Y_DENSITY, 3);
CameraPreview mPreview = new CameraPreview(this, mCamera, null, autoFocusCallB);
FrameLayout preview = (FrameLayout)findViewById(R.id.cameraPreview);
preview.addView(mPreview);
Now i am developing Camera app for i need front and back cameras simultaneously.My requirement is when i open my app first it will show back surface view and also i have one button when i press one button it will switch to front camera surface view and also when i press button second time it will again switch to back camera for that i write this code.

The EVO 4G (as of this writing) runs Android 2.2, which lacks support for the 2.3 front-facing camera APIs. I'm rather surprised your code example runs without tripping an exception for the 2.3 API calls you are invoking.
Most likely it is a device issue, drivers or something else.
Try testing it on another device.
Also make sure the device is running Android 2.3 or higher, below that it isn't supported.
