I have a image Gallery, and i want to show the last modified data below each image, but nothing is shown in the TextView (but yes in the ImageView). This is my adapter.
public class ImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter implements SpinnerAdapter {
private Context context;
private Drawable[] pics;
private String[] filePaths;
public ImageAdapter(Context context, Drawable[] pics, String[] filePaths) {
this.context=context;
this.pics =pics;
this.filePaths=filePaths;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return pics.length;
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int i) {
return i;
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int i) {
return i;
}
#Override
public View getView(int i, View view, ViewGroup viewGroup) {
View v=view;
ImageView imageView;
TextView textView;
if(v==null) {
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.gallery_item, null);
}
imageView=(ImageView)v.findViewById(R.id.galleryImageView);
textView=(TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.galleryTextView);
imageView.setLayoutParams(new Gallery.LayoutParams(115, 100));
imageView.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_CROP);
imageView.setPadding(8,8,8,8);
File f=new File(filePaths[i]);
SimpleDateFormat simpleDateFormat=new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
Date lastModified=new Date(f.lastModified());
imageView.setImageDrawable(pics[i]);
textView.setText(simpleDateFormat.format(lastModified));
return imageView;
}
}
And this is my xml file
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/galleryImageView" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceSmall"
android:text="Small Text"
android:id="#+id/galleryTextView"
android:textColor="#000"/>
</LinearLayout>
As I said, the image is shown, but there is no text below it.
You are returning ImageView instead of View(Layout).
Use this code
return v;
Return
return v;
instead of
return imageView;

I think what you're looking for is passing data through navigation.
It will allow you send your image and name data from one activity/fragment to the next one.
Check out data-binding as well, might be useful.
I have a custom gridView and inside it i am having two images in a relative layout . Now when i click on the gridView i want the visibility of my images to change.

Basically all I'm trying to do is have a button appear in a row, when the row is selected. I have tried many methods, and they all seem to work including the one below...I get the ImageView but calling setVisibility() on it does nothing:
ListFragment
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int position, long l) {
setSellButton();
}
public View getViewForPosition(int position){
int relativePos = position - listview.getFirstVisiblePosition();
if( relativePos < 0 || relativePos > listview.getChildCount()){
return null;
}
return listview.getChildAt(relativePos);
}
public void setSellButton() {
View x = getViewForPosition(Constants.lastSelection);
ImageView y = (ImageView)x.findViewById(R.id.ivSell);
y.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
No errors, and debug shows that everything is right in setSellButton() but setVisibility() never works. Is this something I can only do in the adapter? Thanks!

Well. First of all allow me to adapt your row xml. It's better to use RelativeLayout instead of LinearLayout. It's more flexible.
row_layout.xml
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight"
android:background="#drawable/thelist"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:minHeight="#dimen/listView_minHeight">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/ivStar"
android:contentDescription="#string/list_item_image_desc"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:src="#drawable/liststar" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/ivStar"
android:layout_toEndOf="#+id/ivStar"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:id="#+id/label"
android:text="New Text"
android:textSize="15sp"
android:layout_marginLeft="12dp"
android:layout_marginRight="12dp" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Text"
android:textSize="13sp"
android:id="#+id/tvValue"
android:layout_below="#+id/label"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/ivStar"
android:layout_toEndOf="#+id/ivStar"
android:layout_marginLeft="12dp"
android:layout_marginRight="12dp" />
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/ivSell"
android:src="#drawable/coin"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_alignParentEnd="true"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:visibility="invisible" />
</RelativeLayout>
You're probably subclassing BaseAdapter. What you'll have to do is to create a method there to change the visibility of your ImageView. Then when you have your item clicked, you can get the adapter and call that method.
CustomAdapter.java
public class CustomAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
private Context context_;
private ArrayList<YourDataHolder> items;
private YourDataHolder lastHolder = null;
private final String LOG_TAG = CustomAdapter.class.getSimpleName();
public CustomAdapter(Context context, ArrayList<YourDataHolder> items) {
this.context_ = context;
this.items = items;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return items.size();
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int i) {
return items.get(i);
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int i) {
return i;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup viewGroup) {
if (convertView == null) {
LayoutInflater mInflater = (LayoutInflater)
context_.getSystemService(Activity.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.row_layout, null);
}
final TextView tv_label = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.label);
final TextView tv_value = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.tvValue);
final ImageView iv_star = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.ivSell);
YourDataHolder holder = items.get(position);
tv_label.setText(holder.getLabel());
tv_value.setText(holder.getValue());
if (holder.isImageVisible() && iv_star.getVisibility() == ImageView.INVISIBLE) {
iv_star.setVisibility(ImageView.VISIBLE);
}
else if (iv_star.getVisibility() == ImageView.VISIBLE) {
iv_star.setVisibility(ImageView.INVISIBLE);
}
return convertView;
}
public void onItemSelect(int position) {
if (position < items.size()) {
YourDataHolder holder = items.get(position);
holder.setVisibility(true);
if (lastHolder != null) {
lastHolder.setVisibility(false);
}
lastHolder = holder;
}
}
}
Assuming you're using a data holder like this one:
YourDataHolder.java
public class YourDataHolder {
private String label;
private String value;
private boolean isVisible;
public YourDataHolder(String label, String value) {
this.label = label;
this.value = value;
isVisible = false;
}
public String getLabel() {
return label;
}
public String getValue() {
return value;
}
public boolean getVisibility() {
return isVisible;
}
public void setVisibility(boolean isVisible) {
this.isVisible = isVisible;
}
}
And then, on your onItemClick(), do the magic.
YourFragment.java
private CustomAdapter adapter;
// Rest of the Fragment. Where you create the adapter, and assign it to the ListView.
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int position, long l) {
adapter.onItemSelect(position);
adapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
}
My guess is, that after the click on the item you need to call the notifyDataSetChanged method on the adapter. And then render the button on the selected list view item.
It is something that I would do in the adapter, having direct access to the imageview would make the process easier. I previously attempted to do it from the listview level and was unable to do to the conditions I had setup.
I am trying to use the GridView to create a set of Image buttons.
I am using an array list to store the images. Every time an image is assigned to a button through the getView() method, the images array list is reduced by one.
my problem is that only one button is shown in my grid! I am not sure if this is because the getView() method is called more than one time for each button. If so, I guess the array of images becomes empty before all buttons are assigned.
Any help is appreciated.
here is my code
activity_main.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<GridView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/gridView1"
android:layout_width= 'fill_parent'
android:layout_height= 'fill_parent'
android:numColumns="auto_fit"
android:verticalSpacing="5dp"
android:horizontalSpacing="5dp"
android:columnWidth="90dp"
android:stretchMode="columnWidth"
android:gravity="center"
/>
item_layout.xml
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_marginTop="35dp"
android:orientation="horizontal"
>
<ImageButton
android:id="#+id/button1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_marginLeft="10dp"
android:layout_marginRight="15dp"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
Images as assigned randomly to the buttons and then removed from the list:
the assignImag()e method is in the MainActivity class and is called every time from the getView() method of the adapter class:
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
ArrayList imgs = new ArrayList();
GridView gridView;
.....
......
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
gridView = (GridView) findViewById(R.id.gridView1);
gridView.setAdapter(new ButtonAdapter(this));
}
public class ButtonAdapter extends BaseAdapter
{
private Context context;
ImageButton imageButton;
public ButtonAdapter(Context c)
{
context = c;
}
//---returns the number of images---
public int getCount() {
return imgs.size();
}
//---returns the ID of an item---
public Object getItem(int position) {
return position;
}
public long getItemId(int position) {
return position;
}
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent)
{
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View gridView;
if (convertView == null) {
gridView = new View(context);
gridView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.item_layout, null);
imageButton = (ImageButton) gridView.findViewById(R.id.button1);
// assign image to the button
assignImage(imageButton);
} else {
gridView = (View) convertView;
}
return gridView;
}
}
}
public void assignImage(ImageButton b){
Random generator = new Random();
int index = generator.nextInt(imgs.size());
b.setContentDescription(imgs.get(index).toString());
b.setBackgroundResource(imgs.get(index));
imgs.remove(index);
}
}
Modify your adapter like this:
public class ImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
private Context mContext;
// Keep all Images in array
public Integer[] mThumbIds = {
R.drawable.img1, R.drawable.img2,
R.drawable.img3, R.drawable.img4,
-----
R.drawable.imgN
};
// Constructor
public ImageAdapter(Context c){
mContext = c;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return mThumbIds.length;
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int position) {
return mThumbIds[position];
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
return 0;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
ImageView imageView = new ImageView(mContext);
imageView.setImageResource(mThumbIds[position]);
imageView.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_CROP);
imageView.setLayoutParams(new GridView.LayoutParams(67, 55));
return imageView;
}
}
No need to create separate layout for each image in the gridView
Hi Please any one Help me out of this..
i am using listview adapter for displaying image list with check box, that allows to select multiple image form list.. code works good for images list not more than screen but if image is more than screen (for scrolling) it throws null pointer exception.. following is my code.
(apterMultiChoice.java)
public class PhotoAdapterMultiChoice extends BaseAdapter
{
public ViewHolder holder;
private Activity activity;
private ArrayList<String> data;
private ArrayList<String> text;
private ArrayList<CheckBox> chkBox;
private static LayoutInflater inflater=null;
public ImageLoader imageLoader;
public PhotoAdapterMultiChoice(Activity a, ArrayList<String> title,ArrayList<String> URL,ArrayList<CheckBox> chkBoxPass)
{
activity = (Activity) a;
data=URL;
text=title;
this.chkBox = chkBoxPass;
inflater = (LayoutInflater)activity.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
imageLoader=new ImageLoader(activity.getApplicationContext());
}
public int getCount()
{
return data.size();
}
public boolean getSelect(int position)
{
return this.chkBox.get(position).isChecked();
}
public int getCountSelect()
{
return chkBox.size();
}
public Object getItem(int position)
{
return this.chkBox.get(position).isChecked();
}
public long getItemId(int position)
{
return position;
}
public static class ViewHolder
{
public TextView text;
public ImageView image;
public CheckBox checkBox;
}
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent)
{
System.out.println(this.chkBox.size() +" ---- "+data.size());
if(this.chkBox.size() < data.size())
{
View vi=convertView;
if(convertView==null)
{
System.out.println("convertView is null");
vi = inflater.inflate(R.layout.photoitemlistmultichoice, null);
holder=new ViewHolder();
holder.text=(TextView)vi.findViewById(R.id.text);
holder.image=(ImageView)vi.findViewById(R.id.image);
holder.checkBox=(CheckBox) vi.findViewById(R.id.check);
//this.chkBox.add((CheckBox) vi.findViewById(R.id.check));
vi.setTag(holder);
}
else
{
System.out.println("convertView is Not null");
this.chkBox.add((CheckBox) vi.findViewById(R.id.check));
holder=(ViewHolder)vi.getTag();
}
System.out.println("Position : "+position);
holder.text.setText(text.get(position));
holder.image.setTag(data.get(position));
//holder.checkBox.setTag(chkBox.get(position));
//this.chkBox.set(position, chkBox.get(position));
//this.chkBox.add(holder.checkBox);
imageLoader.DisplayImage(data.get(position), activity, holder.image,"Photo");
return vi;
}
return null;
}
}
How i call adapter
PhotoAdapter adapter = new PhotoAdapter(this, imageNameList, thumbURLList);
listPhoto.setAdapter(adapter); //listPhoto is my listView
(photolist.xml)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
</LinearLayout>
(photoitemlist.xml)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">

android:layout_gravity="left|center_vertical"
android:textSize="20dip"
android:layout_marginLeft="10dip"
/>
</LinearLayout>
please help..
thanks...
The error is, as you said. When you scroll it poops out. So your creating your views correctly but not recycling them correctly.
this.chkBox.add((CheckBox) vi.findViewById(R.id.check));
Looks like what's causing your error. You don't need to find the Id again as you already have a holder for it.
holder.text.setText(text.get(position));
holder.image.setTag(data.get(position));
You probably want that in your else statement
