Can't align view to the right

Can't align view to the right - android

I am trying to display one view in the left side and one to the right side of the parent layout as following:

But as a result I see both textViews aligned to the left only. I don't understand why. I manage to set the verticaly layout_gravity but not the horizontal one. In addition, I could add:
android:gravity="right"
to the parent layout and than see both views on the right side but couldnt find a way to display one in the left side and one in the right side.
Please help.

Another trick here;
Place an invisible View between the TextViews. And it will occupy the whole remaining area with android:layout_weight="1", so TextViews will remain on both ends. No gravity needed. Try the code below :)

Edit:
In method 1 using weight for splitting the total screen as two parts and set the gravity for first item is left and gravity for second item is right.
I am not using android:layout_gravity for TextView . Using android:gravity. Better practise you can use relativeLayout. Check the second option

The easiest solution with LinearLayout is modifying your right textview with gravity="right"

how to get image icon to align right in a Linear Layout?

I know there are lots of threads with more or less same topic but none of them covers my situation:
I have a little garbage can for the delete button but it always disappears off the screen if the line of the text is too long and if its too short it's attached to the line and I just wanted to be on the right hand side of the app like the the Add_item button but since it is in a Linear Layout it does not work

How to create layout in Android to list TextViews horizontally

I want to create layout which looks like this:
Name1, Something1, OtherThing and Name2 are TextViews (each one of them is clickable with different action) which are added do parent layout programmatically. Sometime there too much elements to fit in one line. Which layout as parent should I use to let TextViews be placed horizontally but with possibility to "break line"? Horizontal LinearLayout isn't working.

How to mirror text position?

I'm trying to lay some text out on left and right that have a mirroring position as below.
What's happening here is that the last row in the right column ("Some more text") is the widest so it pushes the two rows above further to the right. For the sake of symmetry, the left column is pushed further to the left. The text values are supposed to be dynamic. Does anyone know how the layouts should be designed?

You can achieve something like that by nesting LinearLayouts. The outer LinearLayout would have an orientation=horizontal, and the two inner LinearLayout an orientation of vertical with each having a layout_weight=1 and the second (right) LinearLayout would also have gravity="right".

What is the best way to fix this?

You don't need android:layout_toRightOf="#id/afrekendatum" because you have declared android:layout_alignParentRight="true". Remove it and it will work fine.

Android Layout left and right align in horizontal layout

I am have a ImageView and a ImageButton. I have them next to each other in a horizontal layout. I am trying to make it so that the image is left aligned on the screen, and the button is right aligned. I have tried setting gravity but it doesnt seem to make a difference. Where am I going wrong?

Make imageview and imagebutton wrap_content and set layout_gravity to left and right accordingly.

a RelativeLayout would solve your problem with a snap, but if you still insist on using LinearLayout (just because we're badass and do things the hard way), you do it like this:
Your parent LinearLayout is fill-parent, left-aligned, and horizontally oriented,
and contains your ImageView, and another LinearLayout.

Second LinearLayout is fill-parent, right-aligned, and horizontally oriented, and contains your ImageButton.

The easiest solution with LinearLayout is modifying your right textview with gravity="right" <TextView android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="right" android:gravity="right" /> But I would strongly reccomend using a RelativeLayout as #Sjd suggested.
