Hint Text is overlapping to my TextInputLayout

In my app, I have a TextInputLayout where the user enters its id, when the TextInputLayout does not have the focus looks like:
However, when the user touch the TextInputLayout (get the focus) the hint text looks like:
And I need hint text looks like as the follow image when the TextInputLayout have the focus:
Ignore the icon, its different but it does not matter in this moment, that I want to do is the hint text looks like the last image

you cant do this by default edit text you can use some library in your app to apply this ...

When you use TextInputLayout is highly recommended to use TextInputEditText instead of EditText
Example:

TextInputLayout with OutlinedBox stroke overlaps the hint

I use com.google.android.material:material:1.1.0 and trying to make EditText with outlined box with a hint. My issue is that stroke of the box is overlaps the hint:

Is it bug in the material library, or something wrong with my code?

It depends by the use of android:gravity="center"
<androidx.appcompat.widget.AppCompatAutoCompleteTextView
android:gravity="center"

Starting from 1.2.0-alpha02 the bug is fixed and there is a different behavior.
In any case use MaterialAutoCompleteTextView or AutoCompleteTextView instead of androidx.appcompat.widget.AppCompatAutoCompleteTextView (there is an auto-inflation of MaterialAutoCompleteTextView using AutoCompleteTextView).
Something like:

It seems there are quite some bugs with version 1.1.0
For now they have addressed some in the latest release, update your version to latest one (see latest releases here)

How do I top start the hint text within an TextInputEditText in Android?

I need [top|start] hint text an TextInputEditText..
I use android:gravity="top|start" hint text still in center, but the text content is correct (top start)

why you not try by adding this android:ellipsize="top|start"

Probably it's an issue related to material design library. I have checked with different version and found different scenarios for same layout. Among them below version gives me the result that you want to achieve.

How to use TextInputLayout in new android design library

Recently google introduced new Android Design Library in that how to use TextInputLayout field to enable the Floating Hint feature of EditText.
Not much guidance is available here.
This page says
you can now wrap it in a TextInputLayout
But No idea because smart prediction (Ctrl+SPACE) doesn't predicts any attributes to the TextInputLayout. So my questions are:
How do we get hold of the EditText underlying this component?
How can we get data from EditText?

TextInputLayout extends ViewGroup class.
So which means that you have to wrap your EditText in a TextInputLayout.

To make this works well, you should let you app theme extends from Theme.AppCompat (or its descendant) theme, like extends from Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar.

If you use EditText like a child of TextInputLayout, you will see this message in Android Monitor:

With the Material Components Library there is a new TextInputLayout component.

Rule of Thumb : TextInputLayout should wrap TextInputEditText instead of the normal EditText.
Reason?
TextInputEditText is a sub-class of EditText and is designed for use as a child of TextInputLayout.
Furthermore, using an EditText instead would shoot us a warning : EditText added is not a TextInputEditText. Please switch to using that class instead.

TextInputLayout not showing EditText hint before user focus on it

I am using recently released Android Design Support Library to show floating label with EditTexts. But i am facing the problem that the Hint on the EditText is not showing when UI is rendered, but i see the Hint after i focus on the EditTexts.

This is a bug that has been fixed in version 22.2.1 of the library.

As mentioned by #shkschneider, this is a known bug. Github user #ljubisa987 recently posted a Gist for a workaround:

As noted in the comments, the workaround only works on Android Lollipop and older. It does not work on the Android M Preview.

That is a known bug of the Android Design library. It has been accepted and assigned.
So you should have this fixed in the next Android Design library release.
In the meantime, you could watch the issue tracker for a hacky-fix that might get posted there, but I don't know any as of now.
And yes, it only affect Lollipop and above.

This works for me in Design Library 23.1.1:
Set the hint color in xml attributes of TextInputLayout:

If you are setting your EditText hint programmatically it wouldn't work!
You need to set the hint on the TextInputLayout it self.

This issue is resolved in v23.0.1 of support design library. I also updated my appcompat-v7 to 23.0.1, compileSdkVersion to 23 & buildToolsVersion to 23.0.1 in build.gradle.

I solved my problem with this code:

The key here is the bringToFront. It forces the TextInputLayout to redo its drawing, which is not the same as doing invalidate(). If you are trying to display the TextInputLayout on a view that has animations or tranistions, you need to execute the above code at the end of the animation or transition. Just make sure that the code above runs on the UI thread.

Set hint color that contrast to the EditText background.

Looks like this issue appears when you set onFousListener on EditText - try to extend EditText and support multiple onFocusListeners

Problem solved:
Goto build.gradle of ur app and check design library.
compile 'com.android.support:design:22.2.1'
It should be 22.2.1 or newer.

Problem is the hint color. It becomes white when typing something. Please change the hint color or change the background color. You will see the hint while typing.

Just add android:theme="#style/Base.TextAppearance.AppCompat" to the TextEditLayout and it should work and you can change the theme as you need.

Just add: android:hint="your_hint" for TextInputLayout.

I found something different.
When setting the style for the fragment,
f1.setStyle(DialogFragment.STYLE_NO_FRAME,android.R.style.Theme_DeviceDefault_Light);
The bug was gone when I tried different Styles than "Theme_DeviceDefault_Dialog".
Give it a try.
