I have a navigation drawer on my current application. However, it seems like I'm having more modules coming in, I have to make sure that my application is still organized. So I was thinking to add a sliding tab on one of my navigation drawer fragment.
During my attempt, something went wrong and the log shows the following error
NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke virtual method 'boolean android.content.Intent.migrateExtraStreamToClipData()' on a null object reference
I tried googling for the issue with no success in getting the solution. Can anyone tell me what is actually wrong with my code?
My following files are.

I have a navigation draw with sections and items, but I need to put an image and a text as header but don't know how exactly from what I have, the navigation drawer that I have is the default one that android studio create when you right click and select new > activity > navigation drawer activity.
this is the xml that I want to have as header:
nav_header.xml

<!-- Character's name -->

android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Example text"
android:paddingLeft="16dp"/>

this is how navigation looks like right now:
Update your android studio to 1.4 then you can create a navigation drawer activity with header image
This is something I'm working into.
activity_main.xml
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/drawerLayout"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<!-- Contenido Principal -->
<include layout="#layout/main_content"
android:id="#+id/mainContent"/>
<!-- Navigation Drawer -->
<android.support.design.widget.NavigationView
android:id="#+id/navigationView"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="start"
app:headerLayout="#layout/drawer_header"
app:menu="#menu/nav_menu"/>
</android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout>
I am currently using Navigation View pattern. See this property in the NavigationView:
app:headerLayout="#layout/drawer_header"
Where you need yo replace drawer_header with your layout file.
If you want to use NavigationView, you have to add this dependency in your Gradle:
compile 'com.android.support:design:22.2.0'
Hope this helps.
I have an application page with viewpager containing two fragments.
When my activity pops up , a server request is made for loading current data and then adapter is set.
But the app crashes with the following error.
Attempt to invoke virtual method 'void android.support.v4.app.Fragment.setMenuVisibility(boolean)' on a null object reference
While debugging, viewPager.setAdapter(adapter) showed null pointer exception. Neither my viewPager is null nor my Adapter.
I am not able to figure out why this is happening.
Please help!!
Thanks in advance!!
Found the problem.. In my fragmentPagerAdapter, getItem() was returning null for a fragment.
Try this code
create a class file TabOne.java
package com.example.tabfragment;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
public class TabOne extends Fragment {
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View rootView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.tab_one, null);
return rootView;
}
}
create a class file TabTwo.java
package com.example.tabfragment;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
public class TabTwo extends Fragment {
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View rootView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.tab_two, null);
return rootView;
}
}
**create xml file tab_one.xml and tab_two.xml **
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerInParent="true"
android:gravity="center"

I'm new to Android development and Java outside of simple JavaScripts for web pages. I've created a view pager that displays three different fragments. For the second fragment, BooksFragment, I use a grid view to display a grid of buttons that when the user presses should replace BooksFragment with another view.
The problem I run into is that although I'm using .replace() to replace the fragment, the second fragment just shows up on top of the original. Now, I've searched my problem extensively and I believe the reason that usually happens is when the original fragment is not created dynamically. Being the noob that I am, it does seem like I AM creating the fragments dynamically but I could be mistaken (I'm not using any tags in any of my XML files). Can anyone please help me out? Please help me find the reason why my BooksFragment view doesn't get replaced with my ChaptersFragment view. If the BooksFragment view is indeed not created dynamically, please help me do so. I've read the documentation on how to do it, but am not able to figure out how to do it in my case with using the viewpager. Thanks!
Ok so after a quick look through your code, I noticed you used getChildFragmentManager() here:
FragmentTransaction transaction = getChildFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
getChildFragmentManager() manages fragments that are children of the current fragment. So when you call replace() , it doesn't actually remove the displayed BookFragment since it is not a child of the current fragment (the current fragment IS the BookFragment).
So normally to replace the fragment, I'd call getSupportFragmentManager() to get the right manager, but since you're using a ViewPager it makes things more difficult. You'd probably need to somehow change the ViewPager adapter on gridview item click with a new adapter that returns ChapterDetailFragment in its getItem() method.
You might be able to do something like this:
public class TabsPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter{
private boolean isChapterDetailShowing;
private int chapter;
public TabsPagerAdapter(FragmentManager fm) {
super(fm);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int index) {
switch (index) {
case 0:
// First fragment activity
return new StatusFragment();
case 1:
// Second fragment activity
return new ScheduleFragment();
case 2:
// Third fragment activity
if (isChapterDetailShowing)
return new ChapterDetailFragment();
else
return new BooksFragment();
}
return null;
}
public void showChapter(int chapter) {
this.chapter = chapter;
isChapterDetailShowing = true;
notifyDataSetChanged();
}
Then create a method in the Activity, which calls the showChapter() on the adapter. This method would be called in BookFragment's GridView onItemClickListener (use getActivity() and cast it to MainActivity).
Disclaimer: not 100% sure this will work
