my android studio starts downloading the android-sdk_r22.6.2-windows.zip file upon opening, so i don't even know where should i put this file so that android studio will pick it. Please help me to where to put this file.
These are your SDK tools, which are required to develop and test apps.
Just download the zip. Then extract it wherever you want. Then, when you open Android Studio, it'll ask for SDK Tools directory. Just point it to where you extracted your zip file.

I'm attempting to download Android Studio on Debian (version 8.4 "jessie") but the download does not even start. I'm using this page:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
All that happens is that I get a popup that appears for about 1-2 seconds that states:
"Now downloading the Android SDK Tools!
Because you've chosen to download only the Android SDK tools (and not Android Studio), there are no setup procedures to follow. For information about how to keep your SDK tools up to date, refer to the SDK Manager guide."
That's all I get... nothing gets downloaded.

I hired one guy to develop android/ios application for my site. I want it as native, but i want to check if the developer used phonegap to create this application. Can i identify that without checking the source code ?
Answer consists of looking at the source code but you don't need direct access to it.
You could find out by simply uncompressing the .apk or .ipa installation file for android or ios respectively (like you would any zip file). If it's a phonegap app you will find a /www/ folder with html/css/js files, one which should be named cordova.js or phonegap.js.

I have downloaded and installed android-sdk-windows. Now I am planning for a reinstall of my Windows as the current ones seems to have got corrupted because of virus. Can someone tell me how to backup the android-sdk so that I dont have to redownload all the sources once again.
Attach an external hard drive/pen drive to your computer via a USB
port
Copy the folder where you installed android-sdk-windows (select the
folder then press Ctrl+C)
Open the hard drive once it is connected by double clicking on it.
Press Ctrl+V once you are inside the hard drive folder.

I am trying to download an old file from an old version of Android but i don't know how.
How can I download one of these files
If you want just download the latest version click tgz button. You will get archive with latest files.
If you want older version, click path history choose point in the history, scroll to the bottom where you will see directory view. Go again to core/res/res/raw and then click on tgz. You will get archive with those files in the chosen point of history.
As njzk2 said, there is a link to the archived version for download.
