Google map location updates and marker positioning - android

I am able to add multiple markers in my map, but every time I open the application again, added markers are cleared and only one marker at current location is shown. My present code is given below, what changes should I make to get constant location coordinate updates and to save markers so they are present every time I open my map.
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements View.OnClickListener {
public static final String mapLongitude="longitude";
public static final String mapLatitude="latitude";
FragmentManager fm = getSupportFragmentManager();
Button displayareas;
private GoogleMap newmap; // Might be null if Google Play services APK is not available.
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
displayareas = (Button) findViewById(R.id.display);
displayareas.setOnClickListener(this);
Log.d("Map","MapCreated");
setUpMapIfNeeded();
}
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
if(v.getId()==R.id.display){
Intent intent = new Intent(this, AllAreas.class);
startActivity(intent);
}
}
#Override
protected void onResume() {
super.onResume();
setUpMapIfNeeded();
}
private void setUpMapIfNeeded() {
// Do a null check to confirm that we have not already instantiated the map.
if (newmap == null) {
// Try to obtain the map from the SupportMapFragment.
newmap = ((SupportMapFragment) getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.map))
.getMap();
// Check if we were successful in obtaining the map.
if (newmap != null) {
setUpMap();
Log.d("MAPS","Map working");
}
else Log.d("MAPS","not working");
}
}
private void setUpMap() {
newmap.addMarker(new MarkerOptions().position(new LatLng(0, 0)).title("Marker").snippet("Snippet"));
// Enable MyLocation Layer of Google Map
newmap.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
// Get LocationManager object from System Service LOCATION_SERVICE
LocationManager locationManager = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE);
// Create a criteria object to retrieve provider
Criteria criteria = new Criteria();
// Get the name of the best provider
String provider = locationManager.getBestProvider(criteria, true);
// Get Current Location
Location myLocation = locationManager.getLastKnownLocation(provider);
// set map type
newmap.setMapType(GoogleMap.MAP_TYPE_NORMAL);
// Get latitude of the current location
double latitude = myLocation.getLatitude();
// Get longitude of the current location
double longitude = myLocation.getLongitude();
// Create a LatLng object for the current location
LatLng latLng = new LatLng(latitude, longitude);
// Show the current location in Google Map
newmap.moveCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLng(latLng));
// Zoom in the Google Map
newmap.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.zoomTo(20));
newmap.addMarker(new MarkerOptions().position(new LatLng(latitude, longitude)).title("My location"));
Log.d("LATITUDE",String.valueOf(latitude));
Log.d("LONGITUDE",String.valueOf(longitude));
GoogleMap.OnMarkerClickListener listener = new GoogleMap.OnMarkerClickListener() {
#Override
public boolean onMarkerClick(final Marker marker) {
AddGeofenceFragment dFragment = new AddGeofenceFragment();
// Show DialogFragment
dFragment.show(fm, "Dialog Fragment");
return true;
}
};
newmap.setOnMarkerClickListener(listener);
newmap.setOnMapClickListener(new GoogleMap.OnMapClickListener() {
#Override
public void onMapClick(LatLng latLng) {
// Creating a marker
MarkerOptions markerOptions = new MarkerOptions();
// Setting the position for the marker
markerOptions.position(latLng);
// Setting the title for the marker.
// This will be displayed on taping the marker
markerOptions.title(latLng.latitude + " : " + latLng.longitude);
// Animating to the touched position
newmap.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLng(latLng));
// Placing a marker on the touched position
newmap.addMarker(markerOptions);
Log.d("ADDED LATITUDE",String.valueOf(latLng.latitude));
Log.d("ADDED LONGITUDE",String.valueOf(latLng.longitude));
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),"Block area updated",Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
});
}
}

On constant location update, I recommend using FusedLocationAPI here is the link.
On why the markers were removed. Can you try to remove setUpMapIfNeeded() method in your onResume() ?

My thought is that re-opening the app re initializes the map and all points aren't re-initialized. Honestly I wouldn't think they would stay. It's not the behavior I would expect. If I wanted them to stay I might try to save the points using SQLite. That would save them for sure, but then you need to think about your marker removal user experience.

If you want to show markers when open app in next time.. Please save each lat and long of markers to somewhere (SharedPreference or SQLite ..) and in onCreate() call this data to render in map ..
newmap.setOnMapClickListener(new GoogleMap.OnMapClickListener() {
#Override
public void onMapClick(LatLng latLng) {
// Creating a marker
MarkerOptions markerOptions = new MarkerOptions();
// Setting the position for the marker
markerOptions.position(latLng);
// Setting the title for the marker.
// This will be displayed on taping the marker
markerOptions.title(latLng.latitude + " : " + latLng.longitude);
// Animating to the touched position
newmap.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLng(latLng));
// Placing a marker on the touched position
newmap.addMarker(markerOptions);
Log.d("ADDED LATITUDE",String.valueOf(latLng.latitude));
Log.d("ADDED LONGITUDE",String.valueOf(latLng.longitude));
//Save it to SharedPreference or SQLite .
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),"Block area updated",Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
});

Viewing Location on google map sending Latitude and Longitude

I want to view the location on google map my app get the latitude and longitude of the location but the location does not show in google map. I used firebase database to store latitude and longitude
here is the code of map activity
public class MapsActivity extends FragmentActivity implements GoogleMap.OnMyLocationButtonClickListener, GoogleMap.OnMyLocationClickListener, OnMapReadyCallback {
private GoogleMap mMap;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_maps);
SupportMapFragment mapFragment = (SupportMapFragment) getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.map);
mapFragment.getMapAsync(this);
}
#Override
public void onMapReady(GoogleMap map) {
mMap = map;
// TODO: Before enabling the My Location layer, you must request
// location permission from the user. This sample does not include
// a request for location permission.
if (ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED && ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
// TODO: Consider calling
// ActivityCompat#requestPermissions
// here to request the missing permissions, and then overriding
// public void onRequestPermissionsResult(int requestCode, String[] permissions,
// int[] grantResults)
// to handle the case where the user grants the permission. See the documentation
// for ActivityCompat#requestPermissions for more details.
return;
}
mMap.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
mMap.setOnMyLocationButtonClickListener(this);
mMap.setOnMyLocationClickListener(this);
}
#Override
public void onMyLocationClick(#NonNull Location location) {
Toast.makeText(this, "Current location:\n" + location, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
#Override
public boolean onMyLocationButtonClick() {
Toast.makeText(this, "MyLocation button clicked", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
// Return false so that we don't consume the event and the default behavior still occurs
// (the camera animates to the user's current position).
return false;
}
}
Use this method and pass 4 parameter to this given method. First it will navigation to a particular place also add marker of that place.
Example:
public static Marker addPinPoint(GoogleMap map, Marker locationMarker, double selectLatitude, double selectLongitude){
map.moveCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLngZoom(new LatLng(locationLatitude, locationLongitude), fZoom));
map.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.zoomTo(10), 2000, null);
Bitmap iconImage = ResourceUtil.getBitmap(App.getInstance().getContext(), R.drawable.icon_location_center); // your location icon
BitmapDescriptor icon = BitmapDescriptorFactory.fromBitmap(iconImage);
locationMarker = map.addMarker(new MarkerOptions()
.anchor(0.0f, 1.0f)
.icon(icon)
.position(new LatLng(selectLatitude, selectLongitude)));
return locationMarker;
}
Use the following code to show marker on a specific latitude and longitude, on your onMapReady function:
MarkerOptions marker = new MarkerOptions().position(new LatLng(latitude,longitude));
mMap.addMarker(marker);
The latitude and longitude should be the one you fetch from Firebase.

Can't see multiple markers on google map

In PostExecute i have this array name : locations
I print Log for more details like that:
[lat/lng: (18.5159983333333,-72.2916166666667), lat/lng: (18.5363383333333,-72.3231866666667), lat/lng: (18.5076266666667,-72.3164933333333), lat/lng: (18.54138,-72.2920766666667)]
And i try to show all coordinates like that
protected void onPostExecute(Boolean result) {
dialog.dismiss();
for (int i = 0; i < locations.size(); i++)
{
Double latitude = Double.valueOf(locations.get(i).latitude);
Double longitude = Double.valueOf(locations.get(i).longitude);
LatLng lng = new LatLng(latitude,longitude);
map = ((MapFragment) getFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.map)).getMap();
map.addMarker(new MarkerOptions()
.position(lng)
.title("Test")
.icon(BitmapDescriptorFactory.fromResource(getResources().getIdentifier("Title", "drawable", getPackageName()))));
}
}
Google map shows blank. How may i resolve it please??
You can only add markers when your map is ready to receive them and that is true when
public void onMapReady(GoogleMap googleMap)
is called.
I will try to get you started with this:
You need to setup some variables:
private GoogleMap mMap;
private boolean isMapReady = false;
private ArrayList<LatLng> myLocations = null;
the ArrayList will contain your locations you get from your AsyncTask
Then you need to get the mapOnReady setup in your onCreate() Methode:
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_map);
// What ever else you need
SupportMapFragment mapFragment = (SupportMapFragment) getSupportFragmentManager()
.findFragmentById(R.id.mapViewRidesFoundMap);
mapFragment.getMapAsync(this);
}
Now you need to override the onMapReady method:
#Override
public void onMapReady(GoogleMap googleMap) {
mMap = googleMap;
// Set a boolean flag to let other parts of you code
// know that the map is ready
isMapReady = true;
// If you need to get info from your marker Implement this
//mMap.setOnMarkerClickListener(new GoogleMap.OnMarkerClickListener() {
// #Override
// public boolean onMarkerClick(Marker marker) {
// showMarkerInfo(marker);
// return false;
// }
//});
//If you need a click listener add this
// Add implement the method 'onMapClickLocation'
//mMap.setOnMapClickListener(new GoogleMap.OnMapClickListener() {
// #Override
// public void onMapClick(LatLng latLng) {
// onMapClickLocation(latLng);
// }
//});
// call a function to update your locations
updateMapLocations();
}
Within your(!) protected void onPostExecute(Boolean result) add code to fill the myLocations ArrayList
protected void onPostExecute(Boolean result) {
dialog.dismiss();
myLocations = new ArrayList<LatLng>();
for (int i = 0; i < locations.size(); i++)
{
Double latitude = Double.valueOf(locations.get(i).latitude);
Double longitude = Double.valueOf(locations.get(i).longitude);
LatLng lng = new LatLng(latitude,longitude);
myLocations.put(lng);
}
// calls the update method when data is available
this.updateMapLocations();
}
and add a call to updateMapLocations() which could look like this:
private void updateMapLocations(){
// update locations won't continue unless the map is ready
if(!isMapReady) return;
// Zoom into your location !! if you need too
// with a destinationLocation of your choice
// perhaps your first location in you ArrayList
mMap.moveCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLngZoom(destinationLocation, zoomFactor));
// PseudoCode!!
// Add your for Loop
// !!! Check to see if your myLocations ArrayList is null before you continue !!!
// !!! or just add another boolean to you onPostExcecute method
// And add the Markers
//Loop Start
//float hue = BitmapDescriptorFactory.HUE_MAGENTA;
//MarkerOptions markerOptions = setMarker(latLng, hue)
// !!! You need to add your destination loop !!!
//mMap.addMarker(markerOptions);
//Loop end!
}
private MarkerOptions setMarker(LatLng latLng, float hue){
MarkerOptions markerOptions = null;
try {
float markerAlpha = 0.7f;
markerOptions = new MarkerOptions();
markerOptions.icon(BitmapDescriptorFactory.defaultMarker(hue));
markerOptions.position(latLng);
markerOptions.alpha(markerAlpha);
markerOptions.flat(false);
markerOptions.title("What Ever");
markerOptions.snippet("MySnippet");
markerOptions.draggable(false);
markerOptions.zIndex(0.0f);
}
catch (Exception ex){
Log.e(TAG, " setMarker --- " + ex.getMessage());
}
return markerOptions;
}
Notice that updateMapLocations() is called in both your onPostExecute() and the onMapReady() methods. The onPostExecute() might be finished before the onMapReady() is called. So that first when the map is ready the updateMapLocations() will run to completion when data and map are ready.
I wrote this in a text editor - so there will probably be a couple of syntax errors.

Android: Not able to get current location in Google Map fragment

CameraPosition cameraPosition = new CameraPosition.Builder()
.target(myCoordinates) // Sets the center of the map to LatLng (refer to previous snippet)
.zoom(17) // Sets the zoom
.bearing(90) // Sets the orientation of the camera to east
.tilt(30) // Sets the tilt of the camera to 30 degrees
.build(); // Creates a CameraPosition from the builder

mMap.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.zoomTo(14));

}
}
HERE mMap shows always NULL so it not enter into if statment
if (mMap != null) {Toast.makeText(getActivity(), "comein", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
setUpMap();
}
pls help me to solve problem
It always null if Google Play services APK is not available in application, please can you check with your code
Try following code
SupportMapFragment mapFrag = (SupportMapFragment) getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.map);
GoogleMap mMap = mapFrag.getMap();
Check here for full source code and sample
Edit
Make sure you have written following code in your layout to get map fragment from id.
<fragment xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/map"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
class="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"/>
mMap.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLngZoom(latLng, 17);

Get marker on the user's current location on google map

I m working with google map. I want to get marker pointed to the current location of user by default.How can i do this.Here is my code and is there any way to get the map of India only on google map.plz help me..
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_map_activity1);
MapFragment fm = (MapFragment) getFragmentManager()
.findFragmentById(R.id.fragment1);
// Getting Map for the SupportMapFragment
final GoogleMap map = fm.getMap();
if(map!=null){
map.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
}
if(map!=null){
Location myLocation = map.getMyLocation();
if(myLocation !=null){
LatLng myLatLng = new LatLng(myLocation.getLatitude(),
myLocation.getLongitude());
CameraPosition myPosition = new CameraPosition.Builder()
.target(myLatLng).zoom(17).bearing(90).tilt(30).build();
map.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newCameraPosition(myPosition));
}
}
// Setting a click event handler for the map
map.setOnMapClickListener(new OnMapClickListener() {
#Override
public void onMapClick(LatLng latLng) {
// Creating a marker
MarkerOptions markerOptions = new MarkerOptions();
// Setting the position for the marker
markerOptions.position(latLng);
// Setting the title for the marker.
// This will be displayed on taping the marker
markerOptions.title(latLng.latitude + " : " + latLng.longitude);
// Clears the previously touched position
map.clear();
// Animating to the touched position
map.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLng(latLng));
// Placing a marker on the touched position
map.addMarker(markerOptions);
double lat=latLng.latitude;
double longitude=latLng.longitude;
String LAT=String.valueOf(lat);
String LONGITUDE=String.valueOf(longitude);
Intent in = new Intent(getApplicationContext(),
LocationActivity.class);
// Sending lat/long to next activity
in.putExtra(TAG_LAT, LAT);
in.putExtra(TAG_LONG, LONGITUDE);
startActivityForResult(in, 100);
}
});
}
To get marker pointed to the current location, you can do like that:
Location myLcation = map.getMyLocation();
LatLng myPosition = new LatLng(myLcation.getLatitude(),myLcation.getLongitude());
MarkerOptions currentLocationMarker = new MarkerOptions()
.position(myPosition)
.title(/*YOUR TITLE*/)
.icon(BitmapDescriptorFactory.fromResource(R.drawable./*YOUR ICON*/));
map.addMarker(currentLocationMarker);
if you want to zoom on this position:
CameraUpdate location = CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLngZoom(myPosition, 6);
mMap.animateCamera(location);

Android google map cuncerent location. Add a new locked marker and draw a line on the google map

Hey guys so i've been working on this app, wich has a google map and get my location i have this all working,
now im wondering and i know it's possible just not how. How can i make a new marker somewhere on the map (this location is locked and will not change what ever happens) and finally when the phone have your location and the marker location automaticly draw a line between them?
This is my class code:
class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements LocationListener {
GoogleMap googleMap;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
// Getting Google Play availability status
int status = GooglePlayServicesUtil.isGooglePlayServicesAvailable(getBaseContext());
// Showing status
if(status!=ConnectionResult.SUCCESS){ // Google Play Services are not available
int requestCode = 10;
Dialog dialog = GooglePlayServicesUtil.getErrorDialog(status, this, requestCode);
dialog.show();
}else { // Google Play Services are available
// Getting reference to the SupportMapFragment of activity_main.xml
SupportMapFragment fm = (SupportMapFragment) getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.map);
// Getting GoogleMap object from the fragment
googleMap = fm.getMap();
// Enabling MyLocation Layer of Google Map
googleMap.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
// Getting LocationManager object from System Service LOCATION_SERVICE
LocationManager locationManager = (LocationManager) getSystemService(LOCATION_SERVICE);
// Creating a criteria object to retrieve provider
Criteria criteria = new Criteria();
// Getting the name of the best provider
String provider = locationManager.getBestProvider(criteria, true);
// Getting Current Location
Location location = locationManager.getLastKnownLocation(provider);
if(location!=null){
onLocationChanged(location);
}
locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(provider, 20000, 0, this);
}
}
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(Location location) {
TextView tvLocation = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.tv_location);
// Getting latitude of the current location
double latitude = location.getLatitude();
// Getting longitude of the current location
double longitude = location.getLongitude();
// Creating a LatLng object for the current location
LatLng latLng = new LatLng(latitude, longitude);
// Showing the current location in Google Map
googleMap.moveCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLng(latLng));
// Zoom in the Google Map
googleMap.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.zoomTo(15));
// Setting latitude and longitude in the TextView tv_location
tvLocation.setText("Latitude:" + latitude + ", Longitude:"+ longitude );
}
#Override
public void onProviderDisabled(String provider) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
#Override
public void onProviderEnabled(String provider) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
#Override
public void onStatusChanged(String provider, int status, Bundle extras) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
return true;
}
and this is the idea i like to put in
Marker marker = googleMap.add(new MarkerOptions()
.position(new LatLng(37.7750, 122.4183))
.title("San Francisco")
.snippet("Population: 776733"));
googleMap.addMarker(marker);
i hope you guys can help me out, thanks!
To add a Marker I'm doing:
MarkerOptions markerOptions = new MarkerOptions().position(new LatLng(51.5, -0.1)).title("marker title").icon(BitmapDescriptorFact‌ory.fromResource(R.drawable.marker_wikipedia));
googleMap.addMarker(markerOptions);
as you can see in line 348 of my application: Tureame.
In your code, I think you're adding twice the same marker.
Then, to draw a line between two points, you can follow the example in Android documentation of Polyline:
GoogleMap map;
// ... get a map.
// Add a thin red line from London to New York.
Polyline line = map.addPolyline(new PolylineOptions()
.add(new LatLng(51.5, -0.1), new LatLng(40.7, -74.0))
.width(5)
.color(Color.RED));
