I was developing an app for an enterprise which has given the employees an android phone, they wanna monitor every time a user tries to open any other app and send a report to a manager so I´ve developed an android service that checks every time any other app is call meaning: OnCreate, onResume, etc.(that´s done) Now they wanna check what that particular user did once he got into the other app: for example if he opened the messages(com.android.mms) , what message he sent or what he had recieve. other example: if he opened the dialer(com.android.dialer) they wanna know what phone he called. What makes it tricky for me, is that they want this for EVERY POSSIBLE APP a user can have installed in their phone.
My Question is the following: is there a way to capture this kind of information of a running app, from a service?
I appreciate any answer and I´m open to suggestions of how should i do this.

does anyone have any idea how to make an app that automates and filter rideshare/restaurant apps requests? It's kinda working as an umbrella for more than one app.
for example, the XYZ app will be in the foreground and will monitor both Uber Eats and Postmate in the background and whenever requests are received it will show on the XYZ app screen with its details.
I believe it's not doable on the IOS but its existing on android on an app called Mystor. it uses somehow advisability functions in the phone but I want to understand the logic behind it and know how does it work?
Is it possible for an app to get launched from code even if user has not opened once after installing.
I have tried boot complete listener , package install/ uninstall receiver.
But even these receivers are not working when user has not opened the app at all. I am asking to just check if some one else in the community has tried this before.
The answer is: no.
If the user has never opened your application before, it is not possible to start the application.
On some devices though, it is possible that another second application under your control could possibly start your application, although it has never been opened before by the user.
If you do not have a second application on the device, the answer is no.
I am a beginner in Android development. I want to build a service that once started, must keep running.
Step 1.) Once user will install the app give some input, service will start. (i'll use IntentService)
Step 2.) Now user moves to other app/close my app. I want to make sure Service should keep running and processing/saving info with current timestamps.
Questions:
1.) How I make sure that the service keeps running/saving data even if user returns after say, 1 month on my app.
2.) I read that every app is a new user and separate VM is provided by the Android, question is when an app is considered to be closed?
3.) If my app closes, related services will also close then?
1.) How I make sure that the service keeps running/saving data even if user returns after say, 1 month on my app.
Once user installs app, you can start STICKY service but make sure you inform the user as well as Android OS by making it run on foreground with on going notification. it will help your service to run for long time without being killed by Android OS.
1 month is long period, user may reboot the cell in between. and you will need to restart your service. so you should register for reboot complete event .
2.) I read that every app is a new user and separate VM is provided by the Android, question is when an app is considered to be closed?
There is no condition like considered to be closed.Actually, when user installs app, it is by default in stopped mode, it gets activated when user opens your app for first time. and application can go back to stopped mode again whenever user force stop your app.
3.) If my app closes, related services will also close then?
If you are considering that app is considered as closed when user don't use the app, your service won't close unless Android OS kills it in low memory situation.you may make it foreground as suggested earlier to convey Android OS that you are doing important things, nothing is wrong,so kill me only at last when you don't have any other options left
I am makin an android application on Emergency communication.I want my application should run all the time and whenever it needs it should be able to run.I want that user should not be able to close it by any means.Like Google Maps application which is restarted again on killing its all activities and even we force close it,it will be restarted.
Seems you are learning app development ... but this is not the way you should pose question here... you should post what you have done and code issues and not ask for an entire class...
But i will try to answer your question are you trying to create an app which when started wont be able to be closed and come back to home screen ???!!!!!
See you are creating an app which will run on android operating system which is similar to linux so you must follow the Activity
LifeCycle
I remember i created an app where there were shortcuts on screen so using that i was directing the user to specific links but you can use for calling etc.. i donno if that is what you are searching for...
You might create a notification bar if you want which cannot be cancelled and you can place the code in the intent which will be called from this...
Also services are there which u can utilized what other users have suggested...
thx
You could use an extra service running in the foreground, but there will be always a notification of this service in the notification bar.
See here: http://developer.android.com/guide/components/services.html#Foreground
I am working on an app with PhoneGap on android where the user will get messages every now and then bringing them to one of the pages on the app. I've looked at a few possibilities but haven't found any simple way to do this. Can I use the built in Notification on the Phonegap API to do this?
I have found a few good ways to do push notifications like thisw: http://www.pushwoosh.com/programming-push-notification/android-push-notification-for-phonegap/ but I want the notification to be coming from the app itself with the time determined by a built in timer.
Thanks!
You can't, not in Phonegap anyway. If the user leaves the app with the Home button, then the code is still running (until it gets killed when memory gets low). But if the user exists with the back key, the app dies. See here: Creating an Android Service with Phonegap? (Have phonegap app run even when closed)
