using material design tablayout +viewpager material design tablayout everything works perfectly but if i m trying to put parent view as ScrollView so that my whole screen can scroll once user try to see tabs fragment content as fragment contains listview so it is getting very low height on small devices.After adding scrollview my fragments of viewpager are not being displayed ?how to overcome in this situation ?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
</ScrollView>
i have tried with and without CoOrdinator layout none of them working

I have fragment, which doesn´t cointains toolbar. Toolbar must stay in activity. This fragment must show main view and bellow viewpager with two fragments. Each fragment is specific. First use custom layout, second use adapter. Each has different height. I tried a lot of libs and ideas, but none of them works as it should (it made scroll longer/shorter than it should or it made crazy UI overlays).
I am trying to do UI where it looks that this all is one layout, meaning, it is scrollable from up to bottom. But I can´t figure it out. I was thinking to use CoordinatorLayout, but I have no idea how.
XML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/main_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="200dp"
android:background="#FF0000"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="ABCDEFGH" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="GHIKJ" />
</LinearLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/viewPager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
How to make this as scrollable layout in fragment without using toolbar references?
Update: Yes, here are some pictures, I hope it is more clear now.
Wrap your LinearLayout inside an AppBarLayout. Actually AppBarLayout extends LinearLayout so you could just replace your LinearLayout with it.
Even if your app doesn't have a toolbar or an app bar, the AppBarLayout is the view that CoordinatorLayout coordinates with.
Adding the AppBarLayout should provide the behavior you're looking for.
This root fragment layout seems to working. I am not sure that this is best solution, but it works.
Note: I replaced listview by standard LinearLayout as root container and inflate child layouts (items) there.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView

I have a single activity app with a nav drawer to navigate between a few fragments. The activity also has a toolbar and a tab layout, and I have it so that the tabs stay hidden through visibility-gone until the fragment with a view pager is switched to. The problem is that the contents of the tabbed fragment are hidden underneath the toolbar and the tab display. Any ideas?
Main Activity Layout:

app:headerLayout="#layout/navigation_drawer_header"
app:itemIconTint="#color/colorAccent"
app:itemTextColor="#color/colorSecondary_text"

Toolbar Layout: ( I just had this seperate through different attempts at it, and never merged it back in.)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

app:layout_scrollFlags="enterAlways"/>
I have a basic layout as an 'intro page' that just displays a textview right now that is put into the container on startup, that is replaced by the other fragments through the nav drawer. One of them has a viewpager, that enables the tablayout to appear, the tabs display and load with text and fragments properly, but they are being covered up by the toolbar/tab bar. I have tried having the tablayout directly into the fragment, but then it never displayed at all, and am having trouble finding the correct way to do this.
Tabbed/Viewpager Fragment:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
android:id="#+id/tabTestVP"/>
</LinearLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
Use a relative layout and give the following attribute to the FrameLayout:
android:layout_below="#+id/toolbar"
Make sure to add the ID to the toolbar first
U can use a RelativeLayout in place of the first FrameLayout in your hierarchy and align the Fragment container below the AppBarLayout. "android:layout_below="#id/appBarLayout"
I am having an issue with a Tab bar and ViewPager in my android project. What the app does it has an activity which hosts a tab layout and then has 2 fragment which represents each of the tabs.
When the activity is opened it posts to an API to get some data and puts the data into a data adapter for a Recycler View and Card layout in each of the fragments.
The recycler view will contain 3 items but only 2 are being shown as the first is being hidden under the toolbar and/or the tab bar as shown in the screenshot below.
Below is the layout file of my activity
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
tools:context="com.BoardiesITSolution.CritiMonApp.AppsActivity">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<include layout="#layout/toolbar" />
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
android:id="#+id/tabs"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:tabMode="fixed"
app:tabGravity="fill" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/viewpager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
<!--app:layout_behaviour="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behaviour" />-->
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
Below is the layout of the fragment
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<view
android:id="#+id/recycler_view"
class="android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_centerInParent="true" />
</LinearLayout>
Below is the layout for card layout
<android.support.v7.widget.CardView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:cardview="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="80dp"
android:layout_margin="8dp">
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="80dp"
android:elevation="5dp">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/txtApplicationName"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:maxLines="3"
android:padding="8dp"
android:textColor="#222"
android:textSize="15dp"
android:layout_centerInParent="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>
</android.support.v7.widget.CardView>
Below is the screenshot as mentioned above which shows the problem. I've pixelated some of the text but it should you what I mean, there should be 3 items but the first item is hiding underneath the tab bar.
Edit: As suggested below by #smeet and #hardik, adding the scroll behavior app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" should fix the problem while preserving the scroll behavior. Scroll behaviors only work if the view is a direct child of the coordinator layout.
Old Answer
Just Wrap your appbar layout and viewpager in a vertical LinearLayout
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
tools:context="com.BoardiesITSolution.CritiMonApp.AppsActivity">
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
//appbar layout
//viewpager
</LinearLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
From the docs, CoordinatorLayout is a super-powered FrameLayout. So you can expect the typical "lay views on top of other views" FrameLayout behavior.
Adding :
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
in ViewPager resolved issue in my case.
if we will wrap app bar layout with linear layout than toolbar will not hide when you scroll so accepted answer might not help you if you want to hide toolbar when you scroll.
Smeet did it right way but not explained! here is full example with explanation.
add app namspace to CoordinatorLayout
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
......
>
and just add below line in your ViewPager
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
complete xml will be as below
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
>
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
app:popupTheme="#style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay" />
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
android:id="#+id/tabLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/viewPager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
I have search the Stack Overflow beforewise, but haven't found an appropriate answer to my problem.
I have an Android application with the coordinator layout that has a nested ViewPager inside. If I scroll a RecyclerView that is inside of the first fragment in a View pager, the Toolbar is hidden and shown as intended. However, my other fragments in the ViewPager do not have nested scroll, so I would like to show Toolbar if it is hidden on ViewPager page change. I wonder if I can extend the CoordinatorLayout behavior to have it nicely done.
Thanks in advance! I will be happy to provide more details if needed.
The approximate code is (tried to strip all the unnecessary stuff): main_activity.xml
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/coordinator_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/app_bar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways" />
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
android:id="#+id/tab_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/toolbar" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/pager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_below="#id/tab_layout"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
and a scrolling fragment: fragment.xml
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.v7.widget.CardView
android:id="#+id/add_word_card"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent">
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/add_word_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/highlight">
<!-- some unrelated stuff -->
</RelativeLayout>
</android.support.v7.widget.CardView>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/list"
android:layout_below="#id/add_word_card"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:context=".MainActivity"/>
I have found a couple of related questions like: this or this. But they focus mostly on layout problems, while I want to understand if it is real to have a nice solution to triggering Toolbar movement on demand.
So it seems that the answer is the following: wrap the Toolbar in AppBarLayout and in the code use something like: appBarLayout.setExpanded(false, true);
This does the trick for me.
I've an Activity with an NavigationDrawer and a Toolbar. I'm facing a problem when i want disappear a toobar when one of child fragment view is scrolled. Everything works fine except that there is some view coming up from the bottom which has the exact same size as the toolbar that is disappearing.
I made an GIF Animation that shows the problem. Due to my reputation i can not post the image directly but this gif and this gif shows the problem
I tried to figure out where this is coming from. It seems that its from my container FrameLayout where my fragment views are placed during runtime. I changed its background to green so i can identify it.
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/drawer_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<include
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
layout="#layout/toolbar" />
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/darkGreen"
tools:context="org.cddevlib.breathe.MainActivity" />
</LinearLayout>
<fragment
android:id="#+id/navigation_drawer"
android:name="org.cddevlib.breathe.NavigationDrawerFragment"
android:layout_width="#dimen/navigation_drawer_width"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="start"
tools:layout="#layout/fragment_navigation_drawer" /> </android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout>
This is the Toolbars Layout that is included
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:layout_collapseMode="pin"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light">
</android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar>
And finally a snippet from the fragments view that is loaded:
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appBarLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/black" >
<include
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
layout="#layout/toolbar" />
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/scrollView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
android:background="#color/white"
android:fillViewport="true" >
(...)
Note that i'm including the Toolbar again in that layout because i want different Toolbars for each fragment in my application by hiding / adding the toolbar.
toolbar = (Toolbar) ((View) vw).findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
if (toolbar != null) {
// // for crate home button
activity = (AppCompatActivity) getActivity();
activity.getSupportActionBar().hide();
toolbar.setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable((ColorUtils.getColorDark(DataModule.getInstance()
.getMainActivity()))));
activity.setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
activity.getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
}
SOLUTION
So thanks to sanat shukla answer is firgured out that my problem was that i used an AppBarLayout too much in my fragments view. In my fragments view, AppBarLayout was the main layout for all of my components, but it should not! Its intended to hold the toolbar content! Thanks
It's not an issue. It is the cool animation and support provided by android. When you use co-ordinator layout with Toolbar then it shows cool animation when scrolling the list.
The Design library takes this to the next level: using an AppBarLayout
allows your Toolbar and other views (such as tabs provided by
TabLayout) to react to scroll events in a sibling view marked with a
ScrollingViewBehavior
Read from here :
http://android-developers.blogspot.in/2015/05/android-design-support-library.html
If you don't want to hide your toolbar then don't use co-ordinator layout and appbar with toolbar.
Try this for fragment :
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<! -- Your Scrollable View -->
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/scrollView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
android:background="#color/white"
android:fillViewport="true" >
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView/>
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<include
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
layout="#layout/toolbar" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
