I am new to Android.
I want to update the table data based on a CheckBox value.
But it's not updating the table - instead, I am getting a No Such Table error.
Here is the code :
public class CheckListActivity extends Activity {
CheckBox chkTask1, chkTask2, chkTask3, chkTask4, chkTask5, chkTask6,
chkTask7, chkTask8, chkTask9, chkTask10;
Button btnSave;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_check_list);
chkTask1 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task1_option);
chkTask2 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task2_option);
chkTask3 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task3_option);
chkTask4 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task4_option);
chkTask5 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task5_option);
chkTask6 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task6_option);
chkTask7 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task7_option);
chkTask8 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task8_option);
chkTask9 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task9_option);
chkTask10 = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.task10_option);
btnSave = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button2);
btnSave.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
String error = "";
if (chkTask1.isChecked()) {
error = updateCheckList(1, 1);
} else {
error = updateCheckList(0, 1);
}
if (chkTask2.isChecked()) {
error = updateCheckList(1, 2);
} else {
error = updateCheckList(0, 2);
}
if (chkTask3.isChecked()) {
error = updateCheckList(1, 3);
} else {
error = updateCheckList(0, 3);
}
if(error.length()>0){
Toast.makeText(CheckListActivity.this, "ERROR " +error,
Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}else{
Toast.makeText(CheckListActivity.this, "Successfully Saved...!",Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
}
});
}
private String updateCheckList(int flag, int id) {
String errorStr = "";
SQLiteDatabase db;
db = openOrCreateDatabase("CheckList.db",
SQLiteDatabase.CREATE_IF_NECESSARY, null);
try {
String sql = "UPDATE CheckList SET CHECKEDFLAG = " + flag
+ " WHERE ID = " + id;
db.execSQL(sql);
} catch (Exception e) {
errorStr = errorStr + e.getMessage();
}
return errorStr;
}
}
Wild guess: you added the table AFTER the app was run the first time.
Solution: You have to uninstall and reinstall your app.

create relative layout object from it layout id, then you can add it as below
relativeLayout = findViewById(R.id.yourRelativeLayoutId);
relativeLayout.addView(yourView);
Listview or recyclerview is best for practice but as you want to use textview, you can use like this in your code:
RelativeLayout relativeLayout =
(RelativeLayout) findViewById(R.id.rootlayout);
TextView textView = new TextView(this);
textView.setText("Hey, I am TextView");
relativeLayout.addView(textView);
appending a textview to relativelayout is pretty simple.
just use
TextView textview = new TextView(this);
textview.setText("Text");
relativelayoutobject.addView(textview);
to setup the position use
textview.setLayoutParams(thelayoutparams)
But if you use big database, please, use 'TableLayout' instead of your method due to performance reasons.
Define relative layout in your xml layout. Add multiple textview programmatic ally like this-
RelativeLayout relativeLayout = (RelativeLayout) findViewById(R.id.relativeLayout);
//use a for loop to define multiple textView in RelativeLayout
//length is no. of textView you required
for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) {
TextView tv = new TextView(relativeLayout.getContext());
tv.setText("Text from sqlite database");
tv.setLayoutParams(new ViewGroup.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
relativeLayout.addView(tv);
}
TextView desc,details,responsibility,status,txtdate;
EditText equipment_id;
DBController controller = new DBController(this,null,null,1);
ImageButton btnupdate;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.search_update_equiments);
equipment_id = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.txtequipmentid);
desc = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.txtdescription);
details = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.txtdetails);
status = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.txtstatus);
txtdate = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.txtdate);
responsibility = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.txtresponsibilitycenter);
btnupdate = (ImageButton)findViewById(R.id.btnupdate);
//desc.setVisibility(View.GONE);
//details.setVisibility(View.GONE);
// responsibility.setVisibility(View.GONE);
// btnupdate.setVisibility(View.GONE);
Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance();
SimpleDateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yyyy");
String formattedDate = df.format(c.getTime());
txtdate.setText(formattedDate);
//update data
btnupdate.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
try {
//String status = "1";
controller = new DBController(getApplicationContext(), null, null ,1);
SQLiteDatabase database = controller.getWritableDatabase();
ContentValues data = new ContentValues();
data.put("description", desc.getText().toString());
data.put("details", details.getText().toString());

can someone help my code. if passed the condition that data successfully updated but when i display the updated data from database data has not updated, can someone help me to fix this. . . . . . because i dont where is my error there. see my update code. thanks :)
You forgot to commit the transaction.
database.setTransactionSuccessful();
database.endTransaction();
I am doing a simple program for addition of two numbers which are input from EditText.
But when user clicks the button 'Click to Add' leaving the fields empty, program exits saying 'Unfortunately, program has stopped.'
Here is the code:
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
long a, b, sum;
Button add, clr;
EditText e1, e2, res;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
add = (Button) findViewById(R.id.bAdd);
add.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) throws NumberFormatException {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
e1 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.tv1);
String str1 = e1.getText().toString();
e2 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.tv2);
String str2 = e2.getText().toString();
try{
a = Integer.parseInt(str1);
b = Integer.parseInt(str2);
}catch(NumberFormatException e){
res.setText("Please enter valid entries");
}
sum = a + b;
res = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.result);
res.setText("Your sum is " + sum);
}
});
clr = (Button) findViewById(R.id.bClr);
clr.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) throws NumberFormatException {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
e1.setText("");
e2.setText("");
res.setText("");
}
});
}
}
I want the app to respond 'Please enter valid entries' for blank EditText entries.
Your line:
res = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.result);
must be moved so that your res variable is initialized before you use res.setText. It's not initialized in your catch statement.
Move it to the position indicated below. You can initialise it when you do your other findViewById
e1 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.tv1);
e2 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.tv2);
res = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.result);
because you are getting a null text from the edit texts..so check for null first
#Override
public void onClick(View v) throws NumberFormatException {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
e1 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.tv1);
e2 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.tv2);
if( e1.getText() != null && e2.getText() != null) {
String str1 = e1.getText().toString();
String str2 = e2.getText().toString();
try{
a = Integer.parseInt(str1);
b = Integer.parseInt(str2);
}catch(NumberFormatException e){
res.setText("Please enter valid entries");
}
sum = a + b;
res = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.result);
res.setText("Your sum is " + sum);
}
}
Yes.
Add these lines.
if (e1.getText().toString() == null || e2.getText().toString() == null)
{
//Show dialog
}
else
{
String str1 = e1.getText().toString();
String str2 = e2.getText().toString();
try{
a = Integer.parseInt(str1);
b = Integer.parseInt(str2);
}catch(NumberFormatException e){
res.setText("Please enter valid entries");
}
sum = a + b;
res = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.result);
res.setText("Your sum is " + sum);
}
}
And tutorial for any help on alert dialog
Instead of catching NumberFormatException you can just catch any Exception in try catch block .Please post the Log Cat Error you are getting.
I want to save my Activity state while I swipe between activities but I cannot. Some things are saved and the others dont. I think it has to do somehow with the gestureListener I'm impementing but I'm not sure.
When I swipe to a different activity and then back to this one - the AsyncTask is still running and the Handler is still updating the GUI, however, the views I have displaying in this activity and the buttons are all in their initial configuration.

You should not keep your Async task running in the background when your activity is send to the background. Your activity can be quit at any time so that you wouldn't have a reference to your activity anymore.
Regarding the preservation of state you could have a look at Activity.onRetainNonConfigurationInstance()
I have a function to find an employee's id number from my sqlite database. The function allows the user to look up by id or name (first and/or last); therefore it creates several dialog boxes and finds the data through an If Else Then tree. Here's the code for those who like that sort of thing:
public String getEmployeeID() {
final CharSequence[] items = {"By ID", "By Name", "Cancel"};
AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(LibraryScreen.this);
builder.setTitle("Find Employee");
builder.setSingleChoiceItems(items, -1, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int item) {
if(items[item].equals("Cancel")) {
dialog.cancel();
empid = "";
} else if(items[item].equals("By ID")) {
dialog.cancel();
final Dialog dialog2 = new Dialog(LibraryScreen.this);
dialog2.setContentView(R.layout.peopledialog);
dialog2.setTitle("Employee ID");
dialog2.setCancelable(true);
//Set Visibility of the Rows
TableRow tblrow1 = (TableRow) dialog2.findViewById(R.id.trGeneral);
tblrow1.setVisibility(0);
//Set Captions for Rows
TextView txtvw1 = (TextView) dialog2.findViewById(R.id.tvGeneral);
txtvw1.setText("Employee ID");
//Set Up Edit Text Boxes
EditText edttxt1 = (EditText) dialog2.findViewById(R.id.txtGeneral);
//Set Input Type
edttxt1.setRawInputType(0x00000002);//numbers

I use the employee id for a variety of functions through multiple activities in my program. Up to now, I've simply pasted the code under each listener that needs the id, but that is such a waste of space IMHO.
My question:
Is there a way to put this function somewhere that can be called from many different activities?
If so:
How do I do that?
How do I set the context for the dialog boxes for multiple activities?
How do I get the employee id back to the function that needs it?
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find it online: actually, I'm not even sure how to word the query right. My attempts have come up woefully short.
A little late to the party - but recorded for posterity:
Read up on the Application class:
Base class for those who need to maintain global application state.
You can provide your own implementation by specifying its name in your
AndroidManifest.xml's tag, which will cause that class
to be instantiated for you when the process for your
application/package is created.
Basically, this would give you the ability to obtain a single object that represents your running application (think of it as a singleton that returns an instance of your running app).
You first start off by creating a class that extends Application base class and defining any common code that is used throughout your application
import android.app.Application;
public class MyApplication extends Application {
public void myGlobalBusinessLogic() {
//
}
}
Then tell your application to use the MyApplication class instead of the default Application class via the <application> node in your app manifest:
<application android:icon="#drawable/icon" android:label="#string/app_name"
android:name="MyApplication">
Finally, when you need to get to your common function just do something like:
MyApplication application = (MyApplication) getApplication();
application.myGlobalBusinessLogic();
If you need to get the context from any part of your application, you can simple return it by calling getApplicationContext() (defined in the base Application class) via a getter method within your custom application class.
