}
}

I also encountered the same problem,Error exactly,Later I found out wrong here:menu->item->android:icon="#drawable/ic_menu_camera",thisic_menu_camera header has vector only used in v21 or higher,so in system 5.0 or less useing can get the problems,than you can copy the following code in values folder and Named "drawables".code:<resources xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

#android:drawable/ic_menu_camera

#android:drawable/ic_menu_gallery

#android:drawable/ic_menu_slideshow

#android:drawable/ic_menu_manage

#android:drawable/ic_menu_share

#android:drawable/ic_menu_send

</resources>

Try replacing android:layout_gravity="start"with android:layout_gravity="right" inside NavigationView layout.

check your navigation view by removing one of these and check your code is working or not
app:headerLayout="#layout/nav_header"
app:menu="#menu/drawer"
if your logcat says cause by resourcenotfoundexception with your above error. issue may be with a icon file/resource file in drawers. if it coming from menu/drawer try changing icons and add icons to drawer folder and to drawer-v21. hope this helps

Update 1 : After many attempts it's seems a general Issue after update IDE to version 3.1.2, till now there's only one solution which #mtak suggested although it is similar to the top menu options in the preview
Remove the line
tools:showIn="navigation_view"
from activity_main_drawer.xml and rebuild.
This solved the same problem for me.
Don't know why!!!
Problem solved in AS 3.1.3(8 June 2018) and reappeared again (16 June 2018)!!!
New temporary workaround:
Cut the line tools:showIn="navigation_view" from the menu file.
Close the menu file.
Reopen it and paste the line.
Go to design and see the menu as it should be.
If you close the menu file and reopen it the problem comes back!
Still no preview in Text.
You can try the following:
Run Build then try to see the preview again
Close the current layout,open another then reopen again
Because you extend AppCompatActivity, you need to make sure that in your styles.xml your AppTheme is a descendant of AppCompat

That worked for me while the accepted answer for not that helping.
I have found the solution. Remove these two tool lines and close/reopen:
xmlns:tools = "http://schemas.android.com/tools"
tools:showIn = "navigation_view"
Actually this problem is because you have extended your activity with AppComactActivity and your theme parent is not the Theme.AppCompat use this theme as your default in manifest.xml under application tag. your style should look like as

rebuilduing the project worked for me

common navigation drawer on different activities

I have built an application with an navigation drawer activity in it but now I want it to be present on my other activities as well. I don't want to handle events again and again in different classes.
Also I got suggestions like making one base class and extend that but as I cannot extend more than one class.
Also I also want to use fragments so that I did not have to write the same code again and again
My activity_main.xml is like:

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"

It's not as easy. There are 2 tech-ticks to achieve it. One is to create use fragment second one is to add the whole code in all activities.
To achieve your result in above case, Add the fragment in your activity and replace/add activities as your required
Also i got suggestions like making one base class and extend that but as I cannot extend more than one class.
True, but the thing about class extension is that you can create a base class that extends AppCompatActivity, and then make your activities extend that base class:
public class BaseClass extends AppCompatActivity...
public class MainActivity extends BaseClass...
This will implicitly cause your MainActivity to extend AppCompatActivity.

import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarActivity;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBar;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.view.MenuItem;
import android.view.View;
public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
ActionBar actionBar = getSupportActionBar();
actionBar.setDisplayShowHomeEnabled(false);
//displaying custom ActionBar
View mActionBarView = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.action_custom, null);
actionBar.setCustomView(mActionBarView);
actionBar.setDisplayOptions(ActionBar.DISPLAY_SHOW_CUSTOM);
actionBar.setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.parseColor("#0C2640")));
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.menu_main, menu);
menu.findItem(R.id.action_settings).setVisible(false);
return true;
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle action bar item clicks here. The action bar will
// automatically handle clicks on the Home/Up button, so long
// as you specify a parent activity in AndroidManifest.xml.
int id = item.getItemId();
if (id == R.id.action_settings) {
return true;
}
return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
}
But it shows margin on all sides.
I want it to fit with actionbar.
How can i remove this margin?
I tried many codes. but didnt gt what i want.
I had the same Problem. The solution for me was to add the following entries to my ActionBar style:

0dp

0dp

So the parts of my styles.xml related to it are resulting:
<resources>

</resources>
I have done this way:
ViewGroup actionBarLayout = (ViewGroup) contextAct.getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.actionbar_customview,null);
actionBar.setDisplayOptions(ActionBar.DISPLAY_SHOW_CUSTOM);
actionBar.setCustomView(actionBarLayout, new ActionBar.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT));
Hope this will help you.
The right way is to use Toolbar. Create it in your layout xml file like this:
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize">

</android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar>
...
</LinearLayout>
Then in your activity just set the the Toolbar to be your action bar:
Toolbar mToolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(mToolbar);

Drawer indicator in lollipop play store

I am using a Nexus 7 with the Android 5.0 preview build.
On this page
http://developer.android.com/tools/support-library/index.html
I see
Changes for v7 appcompat library: Updated ActionBarDrawerToggle, which
contains the menu-to-arrow animation
Is this what the Google Play app uses? Am I reading too much into this statement? What do I need to change to get this behavior - I can't find it in the API documentation.
I've posted a sample app here that uses the new Toolbar class and ActionBarToggle to provide an ActionBar with the Play Store style animating icon:
https://github.com/03lafaye/LollipopDrawerToggle
The no-v7-support branch uses the ActionBarToggle with a framework Activity and Toolbar. The master branch uses the v7 Toolbar and an ActionBarActivity.
The setup for not using an ActionBarActivity looks like this:
package com.plafayette.lollipop;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle;
import android.widget.Toolbar;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.view.MenuItem;
public class ToolbarActivity extends Activity {
private ActionBarDrawerToggle toggle;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_toolbar);
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setActionBar(toolbar);
DrawerLayout drawerLayout = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
toggle = new ActionBarDrawerToggle(this, drawerLayout, R.string.open, R.string.close);
toggle.setDrawerIndicatorEnabled(true);
drawerLayout.setDrawerListener(toggle);
}
#Override
protected void onPostCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onPostCreate(savedInstanceState);
toggle.syncState();
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.toolbar, menu);
return true;
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
if (toggle.onOptionsItemSelected(item))
return true;
int id = item.getItemId();
return id == R.id.action_settings || super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
}
Note that you have to disable the window actionbar and title bar in your theme like so:

<resources>

</resources>
I imagine the sample code for the latest v7 appcompat library will be released soon enough making this post obsolete.
Chris Renke from Square published an alternate backport of the up icon animation. The code is on GitHub here: https://github.com/ChrisRenke/DrawerArrowDrawable and he wrote a blog about it at http://chrisrenke.com/drawerarrowdrawable.
It is very easy.
Your layout with DrawerLayout looks the same as always. You use android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout and create drawers and content area:
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/drawerLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/content_frame"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#ff0"
android:orientation="vertical" >
</RelativeLayout>
<ListView
android:id="#+id/leftDrawer"
android:layout_width="290dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="start"
android:background="#f0f"
android:choiceMode="singleChoice"
android:clickable="true"
android:divider="#null"
android:dividerHeight="0dp"
android:scrollbars="none" />
Main changes are in your java code. In your Activity, where you use drawer layout, you have to extend it for ActionBarActivity from v7. Then you create variables for DrawerLayout and ActionBarDrawerToggle. Your imports should look like this:
import android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarActivity;
and then just connect everything. Remember that new drawer layout does not have icon! You just dont pass it where you normally should be. Code for my activity:
import android.content.res.Configuration;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarActivity;
import android.view.MenuItem;
public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
DrawerLayout drawerLayout;
ActionBarDrawerToggle drawerToggle;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
drawerLayout = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawerLayout);
drawerToggle = new ActionBarDrawerToggle(this, drawerLayout, R.string.app_name, R.string.app_name) {};
drawerLayout.setDrawerListener(drawerToggle);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
getSupportActionBar().setHomeButtonEnabled(true);
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
if (drawerToggle.onOptionsItemSelected(item)) {
return true;
}
return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
#Override
protected void onPostCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onPostCreate(savedInstanceState);
drawerToggle.syncState();
}
#Override
public void onConfigurationChanged(Configuration newConfig) {
super.onConfigurationChanged(newConfig);
drawerToggle.onConfigurationChanged(newConfig);
}
}
And it should work.
Check out here

You seem to have a working drawer as I read it, if not, the Documentation on "Creating a Navigation Drawer" is pretty good.
Updated ActionBarDrawerToggle, which contains the menu-to-arrow animation
The above quote refers to Create a new ActionBarDrawerToggle with arrow and hamburger menu commit.
As a related one: setDrawerIndicatorEnabled was added in Add ability to disable drawer indicator in new ArrowDrawer.
So make sure setDrawerIndicatorEnabled is not called with false and use
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle;
instead of
import android.support.v4.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle;
which should be pretty obvious from deprecation warnings anyway:
#deprecated Please use ActionBarDrawerToggle in support-v7-appcompat.
Probably also need
//
showHome|homeAsUp

getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowHomeEnabled(true);
First, make sure you update to latest SDK. Create new Project in Android Studio, then add appcompat-v7.21.0.+ and appcompat-v4.21.0.+ libraries in your buid.gradle as gradle dependency.
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:21.0.2'
compile 'com.android.support:support-v4:21.0.2'
Add primaryColor and primarycolorDark in your color.xml file.
<resources>

</resources>
Add drawer open/close string value in your strings.xml file.
<resources>

<string name="action_settings">Settings</string>
<string name="drawer_open">open</string>
