Popup Window with FragmentActivity - android

I have my popup windows with "extends activity". I searched and I knew that I cannot extent twice.
So, How can I put the content in a pop up with the FragmentActivity?
Edit:
this is the main activity
public class Kulintang extends AppCompatActivity implements OnMenuItemClickListener {
SoundPool mySound;
int aID, bID, cID, dID, eID, fID, gID, hID;
private Button brecord;
private String FILE;//File path
private MediaRecorder record;
......
this is the class i want to pop up when i tap the button
public class play extends FragmentActivity implements ActionBar.TabListener {
ActionBar actionBar;
ViewPager viewPager;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.play);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
viewPager.setAdapter(new MyAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager()));
viewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onPageScrolled(int position, float positionOffset, int positionOffsetPixels) {
}
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);
}
#Override
public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int state) {
}
});
actionBar = getActionBar();
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
ActionBar.Tab tab1=actionBar.newTab();
tab1.setText("Recorded");
tab1.setTabListener(this);
ActionBar.Tab tab2=actionBar.newTab();
tab2.setText("Songs");
tab2.setTabListener(this);
actionBar.addTab(tab1);
actionBar.addTab(tab2);
}

action bar is null when called from a fragment

I have an Activity that handles some tabs and some fragments which are the view of the tabs. Whenever I call an Activity method from my fragment, the actionbar variable inside my Activity class goes null.
One of my fragments calls a method thats located within Activity:
mainActivity.updateTabTitles(0, 5);
inside of Activity is:
private ActionBar actionBar; // nitialized inside of OnCreate() as actionBar = getActionBar();
public void updateTabTitles(int pageNum, int remaining) {
String text = tabs[pageNum] + " (" + remaining + ")";
actionBar.getTabAt(pageNum).setText(text); // actionBar is NULL? NullPointerException
}
Why is it that when my fragment calls my activity method, the actionbar is null, but never otherwise?
Activity Code:
#TargetApi(Build.VERSION_CODES.HONEYCOMB)
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements ActionBar.TabListener {
private ViewPager viewPager;
private TabsPagerAdapter mAdapter;
private ActionBar actionBar;
// Tab titles
private String[] tabs = {"Pre-arrival Plan", "Primary Survey", "Secondary Survey"};
#TargetApi(Build.VERSION_CODES.ICE_CREAM_SANDWICH)
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
// Initialization
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
actionBar = getActionBar();
mAdapter = new TabsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewPager.setAdapter(mAdapter);
actionBar.setHomeButtonEnabled(false);
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
// Adding Tabs
for (String tab_name : tabs) {
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab().setText(tab_name).setTabListener(this));
}
/**
* on swiping the viewpager make respective tab selected
* */
viewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
// on changing the page
// make respected tab selected
actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);
}
#Override
public void onPageScrolled(int arg0, float arg1, int arg2) {
}
#Override
public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int arg0) {
}
});
updateTabTitles(0, 12);
updateTabTitles(1, 2);
updateTabTitles(2, 14);
}
public void updateTabTitles(int pageNum, int remaining) {
String text = tabs[pageNum] + " (" + remaining + ")";
System.out.println(actionBar); // Null
actionBar.getTabAt(pageNum).setText(text);
}
#Override
public void onTabSelected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
viewPager.setCurrentItem(tab.getPosition());
}
#Override
public void onTabUnselected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
#Override
public void onTabReselected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
};
To call the method on the container Activity from your Fragment you should do:
((MainActivity) getActivity()).updateTabTitles(0, 5);

How i operation on Back Button in fragment. ask for back button of hardware of phone

i want to operation on back button in main fragment class. i am use swipe tab with help of fragment. so in as par activity class i know function of back button. but this is not help of me. this is my code. i already done on action bar home function. so i want to do same as back button
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements
ActionBar.TabListener {
private ViewPager viewPager;
private TabsPagerAdapter mAdapter;
private ActionBar actionBar;
// Tab titles
private String[] tabs = { "Metals","Forex" };
static int i = 0;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
// Initilization
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
actionBar = getActionBar();
actionBar.setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
i=0;
mAdapter = new TabsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewPager.setAdapter(mAdapter);
// actionBar.setHomeButtonEnabled(true);
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
// Adding Tabs
for (String tab_name : tabs) {
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab().setText(tab_name)
.setTabListener(this));
}
/**
* on swiping the viewpager make respective tab selected
* */
viewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
// on changing the page
// make respected tab selected
actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);
}
#Override
public void onPageScrolled(int arg0, float arg1, int arg2) {
}
#Override
public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int arg0) {
}
});
}
#Override
public void onTabReselected(Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
#Override
public void onTabSelected(Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
// on tab selected
// show respected fragment view
viewPager.setCurrentItem(tab.getPosition());
}
#Override
public void onTabUnselected(Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle item selection
switch (item.getItemId()) {
case android.R.id.home:
Log.d("back", "backkk");
i = 1;
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "back"+i,100).show();
onBackPressed();
return true;
default:
return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
}
i think you want to perform an opration when back key is pressed in Fragment
So Create a public method in fragment
and from Fragment activity class , override onBackkeypressed call that method
example
#Override
public void onBackPressed() {
DetailFragment fragment = (DetailFragment) getFragmentManager()
.findFragmentById(R.id.listfragment);
fragment.doSomthing()
}

How to make a function in an activity that is available in all tab fragments?

I am building an app that uses three tab fragments and I want to create a function in one place that I can call from all three tabs. I would assume that I need to create the new function in the activity that contains the tabs, but I'm not sure how to declare it or how to call it from one of the tab fragments.
This is how i create my tabs in the main activity:
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity implements TabListener {
private ViewPager viewPager;
private TabsPagerAdapter mAdapter;
private ActionBar actionBar;
// Tab titles
private String[] tabs = { "Search", "History", "Saved" };
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
//Initialise the Database connection
DBAdapter.init(this);
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
//Setup tab bar
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
actionBar = getActionBar();
mAdapter = new TabsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewPager.setAdapter(mAdapter);
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
//Add the tabs to the action bar
for (String tab_name : tabs) {
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab().setText(tab_name).setTabListener(this));
}
//Tab Swipe change listener
viewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
// on changing the page
// make respected tab selected
actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);
}
#Override
public void onPageScrolled(int arg0, float arg1, int arg2) {
}
#Override
public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int arg0) {
}
});
}
}
Create the function you need to call in the parent Activity and it must be a public method
and you can call that function like this:
((YourActivityClassName)getActivity()).yourPublicMethod();

Android Tab Layout inside Fragment

I have a main Activity with a navigation drawer and I'm trying to realize a layout like Play Music App with tabs.
The MainActivity has a FrameLayout like a container:
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
and I want to put inside the #+id/container a Fragment with Tabs.
How's the best way to do this?
I thought I can create a MyFragment which extends Fragment and implements TabListener.
The associated layout could be like
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/pager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
</android.support.v4.view.ViewPager>
But then how can I proceed?
Try following the following steps:
First, create your activity and extend FragmentActivity and implement TabListener
Secondly, create your TabsPagerAdapter
Thirdly, create your fragment (or fragments if more than one is needed).
You can then set the adapter in your activity after requesting navigation mode to tabs.
Code Sample
public class SampleActivity extends FragmentActivity implements ActionBar.TabListener {
private ViewPager viewPager;
private ActionBar actionBar;
private TabsPagerAdapter mAdapter;
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_ACTION_BAR);
setContentView(R.layout.gd_pager);
getActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
actionBar = getActionBar();
actionBar.setNavigationMode(ActionBar.NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS);
String [] tabs = new String[]{"Tab1", "Tab2", "Tab3", "Tab3"};
for(String tab : tabs)
{
actionBar.addTab(actionBar.newTab()
.setText(tab)
.setTabListener(this));
}
mAdapter = new TabsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewPager.setAdapter(mAdapter);
#Override
public void onTabSelected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft)
{
viewPager.setCurrentItem(tab.getPosition());
viewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener()
{
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position)
{
actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);
}
#Override
public void onPageScrolled(int arg0, float arg1, int arg2)
{
}
#Override
public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int arg0)
{
}
});
}
#Override
public void onTabUnselected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
#Override
public void onTabReselected(ActionBar.Tab tab, FragmentTransaction ft) {
}
}

i had add add 3 tab Now the problem is that when i set some data in tab1 view and move to tab2 the reselect tab1 the data on tab1 is as it is but when i move to tab3 to tab1 then tab1 data is clear. so cany anyof you have idea to solve this?
At the moment your code appears to be partly action bar tabs and partly ordinary fragments.
If you are trying to use action bar tabs then you need a tab listener. In onTabSelected you should add/replace and in onTabUnselected you should remove.
Please see http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/actionbar.html
section "adding navigation tabs" for a good example.
